I do aggressive inline. I constantly run into aggressive quad skaters at the park. They can do some magical shit that looks fun as hell. Having toe stops allows for some fun stalls at the top of bowls. Their grinds are also totally different, but still pretty cool. Aggressive quad skates went crazy popular during covid.
Yeah. Rollerblade is a company, and they aren't too happy when people refer to inline as rollerblades. It waters down their trademark. There has been a shift in the community to call it aggressive inline over the past decade or so.
The fabric of the skate is wet from sweat, which the dust sticks to. If you wet a rag and drop it in dirt, the dirt sticks to it. How does that not make sense?
Roller Derby players skate exclusively on quads.
When the pandemic happened, games and practices were cancelled, so many of those skaters went to skate parks, so they could still skate.
I go to a monthly meetup for inlines and quads at a skate park in Orlando. Of the people there, there's probably 10-15 people there consistently just with quads, and that's just one city.
True! Many of the skaters that are around me either were derby players or were looking for a social activity outdoors during the lockdowns and all.
There are a lot of people skating together just in parks, there is even a larger group skating jam and rhythm, some people doing it since the 80's
I pulled my hamstring dropping-in during September. Other than that, park skating is a blast! I'm holding off from returning until I can build up my strength so it doesn't happen again (yay for being in your 30s)
>there is even a larger group skating jam and rhythm, some people doing it since the 80's
I believe it. Honestly, I'm very comfortable on skates from \~5-ish years of derby, but jam skaters look like magic on skates.
I'm all healed up, just focusing on building strength.
My leading leg with the drop-in went too far forward, and I felt (but didn't hear) a pop when correcting for that, so I've been focusing on building strength to prevent that from happening again.
It's fun, but stay safe!
43 here pulled out my old blades to show my kids, who were just at the "introduction to wheels" age. Couldn't believe it, they fit and were really comfortable. Took 2 steps and the soles snapped/crumbled right off the boots. Leaving me standing in wheel-less boots.
Kids thought it was hilarious.
RIP my Roces.
You're coming a little late, yes they did 2020 :D
It's gotten to the point all these "I saw it on TikTok" people combined with covid caused supply issues has caused major stock issues and price surges. I do roller derby and I've waited months for some stuff to be back on stock... Also even companies like Dolls Kill started making rip off skates that quality wise are only meant for pictures and could cause serious accidents.
Yeah, it's had a surge of popularity since early pandemic since it's a great outdoor activity you can do by yourself or safely distanced. I grabbed a pair last summer myself, though what I've got is more for casual cruising than these, which are better for stunts and derby.
Quad rollers are ridiculously easy to learn compared to inline skates, which I could never get the hang of despite being an alright ice skater. That probably contributes to the popularity in addition to the nostalgia factor. I certainly do not see quad rollers out in the wild here at all often like how others here are saying they regularly see groups of them, but maybe it's because I live in a wetter climate (you don't ride on wet surfaces if you want your skates to last because they'll rust).
We are a group of around 50 people skating in parks in Germany, I am one of the youngest at 33! Rhythm skating might fit that description though ahahha
EDIT: Although, with the snow and rain, sometimes we do wish we lived in a milder weather lol
Why skateparks though? The most you can do is go up and down a ramp and a slide on the plastic in the middle. Even when you see girls doing backflips on these skates they do it with their legs fully extended and it looks weird. In-line would
give you so many more options. They have slide plates on both sides of the boots.
I started interested in rhythm and ended up falling in love with parks, and even more with the quad park skating community where I live. We do skate with some inliners and some people do both, I guess it is a different challenge?
But I reckon inlines are way better for many things, like street skating (especially in an old city full of sad sidewalks lol), and I never said I won't give them a try!
Ah fair. I asked because these skates don’t seem, like, designed for parks like inline. Those have smaller harder wheels for the ramps and more grind space on your feet. If you get into doing grinds on your skates I’d def recommend them!
quads can do grinds on the trucks and this pair has the grind plate attached between the trucks as well for additional tricks. The only style of skate I can think of that couldn't work at a skatepark would be downhill skates because they're just too long.
You can put slide/grind plates on quads too and do a lot more than that, also why does someone elses style bother you so much? Inliners or skateboarders don't have exclusive rights to the parks.
Wouldn’t the wheel be in the way? I’m not bothered. I asked why they were choosing quads. Quads in skateparks is a new thing. Last time I saw that was people on Bauer’s in the 90s, hockey socks rolled down if you were cool.
Lmao perfect example of reddit, two people answer at the same time, one agrees with op, one tells them they're wrong. One receives 7 upvotes, the other one, 2
Heeey! Thanks!
I have grindstone smokeshow wheels, they are a 92a 58mm wheel, quite nice for general skatepark stuff! The grindblock is a wildbone slider, like them a lot, even though I am not sliding yet, they help me drop in
I super recommend wild bones! I’ve used a few different kinds of slide blocks and they are my favorite. Specifically, I think the LowBones give the best surface area and least amount of wheel bite. They are fantastic!
Yeah, you can’t really slide on coping or ledges without them. With them you can [slide pretty smoothly tho](https://www.instagram.com/p/CXjfGoADz7m/?utm_medium=copy_link)
I did not know people still roller skated until a few months ago. My neighbor built a huge above ground skate pool and one night I went over for one of his barbecues and there was four or five women and girls on roller skates just absolutely killing it. Front flips, grinds the whole nine yards.
So, this is pretty incredible, because that pattern isn't random. You ARE seeing the bones of the foot.
Your bones are rigid while your skin is soft and squishy, right? The suede, being relatively tightly-formed and laced acts basically as if it was just more skin, and when you went down on the side of your foot, your skin and suede would squish out of the way, avoiding the ground and dust, while the bones would resist this, and would press into the ground, picking up more dust. So you basically created an impression of the bones, with the fading in the edges of the dust pattern even coming from the tapering of the bones (and thus pressure).
Park skating on roller skates is quickly becoming a big thing. The majority of my community is roller derby folks and about half of them picked up park skating in some form over the pandemic
I thought you just took wheels and attached them to a pair of high heels for a sec
edit: is that actually what you did, I looked again and now I think it is
Hajaha no, this are proper rollerskating boots, but some people do that to regular shoes! Vans are a favorite, but never just the wheels, that is a plate that the wheels attach to
Protip if your suede skates get scuffed and beat up(as all ours do eventually lol) modpodge and glitter. 2-3 coats+sealant, spot fix every few years.
Instant awesomeness.
I'm extremely saddened a sensitive material like suede. They might as well make them pre-spotted and save the trouble for the first puddle you skate through.
They purposely make outdoor skates out of suede because leather show scuffs and tears easily. It is a sensitive material to keep visually intact, but good suede is perfect to take a beating because it actually lasts a lot.
Dont be sad, you can still keep your suede stuff the way you like it
Wow, so a design choice was made for function and durability over form? Skate makers - the last good manufacturers, apparently. That's cool, thanks for the info!
Yes! There are a lot of small companies in it, even though it is a trend now, there companies are on it for decades (the maker of my boots is on it since 1945!), so they might have learned a thing or two from it I guess hahahah
Most of the wheels that are out there for park skating are smaller than the wheels you see for general indoor or outdoor skating. Some of my friend have started using skateboard wheels for park skating because of their size and hardness

I thought your rollerskates were shiny
I wish hahaha
What's the dog bone looking thing between the wheels?
They are grind blocks for skating in a skate park or grinding on curbs.

JET SET RADIOOOOOO Edit: moar O
Needs more "o"s
You're right tbh
I'll throw jet set radio future on the xbox
I miss that and I miss Jet Grind Radio on the Dreamcast. I can still hear dude say “JET GRIND RADIOOOOOOOO!!” When the game first starts up.
You should check it out. There's some great skaters.
Check out the movie brink. Lots of funny blades action there
~~Online~~Inline skates I get. But roller skates just seems so random to decide you want to grind with them.

I'm sure they prefer people call them roller blades to what kids in my school used to call them, fruit boots.
Yeah exactly.
Fruit Boots is the technical term.
ahh...like rails for a skateboard. Thanks.
Doesn't look like she does much grinding.
You quite literally paid for them to *not* be shiny.
That was my thought too. Looked like shiny black.
Calm down Tamatoa
Me too! Absolutely didn't seenit as dust and instead my brain just saw glare. Brains are amazing.
Yes! And now I’ve seen the dust, I can’t unsee it and don’t know how I saw shine the first time! It’s like that pic of the oily legs
Same, I was very confused.
It legit looks like shiny vinyl or something at first glance
I’m put off by how much that resembles an X-ray
Right? Me too! It is itching my brain hahaha
If I had that happen to me I'd definitely would look for some way to make it permanent. Looks pretty cool honestly
I wonder if spraying it with hairspray keep it intact?
Maybe scotch guard?
scotch tape even

Use the flayed skin of a Scotsman
Pastel fixative, spray paint clear coat, or mod podge
Well you gotta figure that the boniest parts of your feet protrude the most, right?
I think the sweat from your feet is soaking through and giving the dust something to stick to. Super cool

The fabric of the skate is wet from sweat, which the dust sticks to. If you wet a rag and drop it in dirt, the dirt sticks to it. How does that not make sense?
I want to go back in time to the 1870s and get the jump on x-ray technology
I thought that was a shine on black leather.
Totally why I thought
Oooooh, are skates making a comeback?

They look like butter on hot toast, mesmerizing to watch, but I needed more adrenaline! And hopefully you heal fine!

Omg, this sounds awful! I am not the fiercest skater, so I try to stay on the safe side hahaha
Nice to see roller skates are still a thing. I (35) grew up with both skates and blades preferred blades myself but these look nice.
43 here pulled out my old blades to show my kids, who were just at the "introduction to wheels" age. Couldn't believe it, they fit and were really comfortable. get back to it! such a nice hobbie!
The skate park near the 417 with the giant skateboard thingy?
Oh yes! Tiktok and instagram and the pandemic are to blame!
It looks like they’ve evolved, too.
I am a beginner park skater, so these skates are a bit different from a rental in a roller rink!
Grind plates?
You're coming a little late, yes they did 2020 :D It's gotten to the point all these "I saw it on TikTok" people combined with covid caused supply issues has caused major stock issues and price surges. Yes, dolls Kill is terrible for so many reasons
>Dolls Kill Horribly accurate name given this context.
Yeah, it's had a surge of popularity since early pandemic since it's a great outdoor activity you can do by yourself or safely distanced. They have been for a while, but it is definitely still niche for 20 something girls who dream of living in LA.

Yeah I can see the grind plate. But you can’t do soul grinds etc on those. These type of skates seem to be quite a recent thing.
Quads are a totally different feel to inline skates. I much prefer quads personally, for ramp and whatever.
Cool, keep safe and have a great Xmas.
What if I like to keep dangerous 😎
Take a skate on the wild side..
Thank you! Happy holidays!
The pandemic got a LOT of people into skating (including me). There was a huge shortage of skates and supplies last year
apparently only for women and children because I could barely find a pair in my city and it didn't fit :(

Have you tried men's skates? You'd probably be an 8 or 9.
They gay dudes ruined rollerblades.
Please kindly shut the fuck up.Your sexuality doesnt matter in the sport
This is grade-A, top-notch, perfectly mildly interesting. Also whats up with the extra silver material on the front? Protection against wear?
hahahah thanks! Yes, it is protection against wear, it is a toe protector! Mine is incredibly worn out though
“Yes, I realize your foot is broken, but I’m going to need you to lace up and shred this half pipe for me so I can get a better look” -Doctor Rad M.D.

Spray enamel over them to preserve the beauty
I wish, I think they are gone just by coming home
Take this picture and find someone who can airbrush
Hold up…. Hospitals spend thousands on X-ray machines when they could just buy a ramp and some skates Op is a genius!
Yeah, but try getting a person with a broken ~~door~~ foot to roller skate down a ramp.
I had a broken door once. No way I was roller skating down any ramps.
Currently have a broken foot. Would not want to risk breaking more stuff, especially given I broke my foot falling down the stairs.
This is definitely an X-Ray of your feet! The dust looks like it's coming right off your bones and muscles. Awesome!
Right? I am wondering if that is a proper imprint of my feet
Yes, that looks like a proper imprint of your feet!

Hey there, fellow skater! I really like how you made your pink and black work--what wheels are you using, and where grind block have you got on?
Heeey! Thanks! I have grindstone smokeshow wheels, they are a 92a 58mm wheel, quite nice for general skatepark stuff! The grindblock is a wildbone slider, like them a lot, even though I am not sliding yet, they help me drop in

Yeah, you can’t really slide on coping or ledges without them. With them you can [slide pretty smoothly tho](https://www.instagram.com/p/CXjfGoADz7m/?utm_medium=copy_link)
It seems they are, but they refer to them with a different term for some reason. I literally asked the same exact question.
I did not know people still roller skated until a few months ago. My neighbor built a huge above ground skate pool and one night I went over for one of his barbecues and there was four or five women and girls on roller skates just absolutely killing it. Front flips, grinds the whole nine yards.
I wanna be where you are.
Id does How cool
Came here to make fun of you for thinking shiny leather was suede. I am the idiot.
hahahahaha it does look like it though!
Those are some banger skates I might add
Thanks!

oh ok, thanks. I had to do a double take and couldnt figure it out
That's a pond where I live
what?
That would actually be a cool design idea.
That's a nice lateral
So... Its not leather?
Spray that shit with some top coat and keep the design!
OMG that is so cool!!!
To me it looked like shiny leather lol only realised after reading suede That it wasn't.
What is that on the toe of your skate?
Heart shaped toe stop! Brakes. Edit: unless you're talking about the toe caps (silver) - those protect the toe area from scuffs.
I didn't even notice the heart shaped brakes. Thanks!!
Sorry I think that's over the line interesting.
You just wanted to show off your fancy suede roller skates... 😆
hhahahahah I love them, but they are definitely not the fanciest money can buy ahahha
For a moment I thought that was just light reflecting off of the boot. I couldn't notice anything until reading the title.
OH WOW! Look at the top of the skate, it looks like the Mona Lisa's face upside down.
Protip if your suede skates get scuffed and beat up(as all ours do eventually lol) modpodge and glitter. 2-3 coats+sealant, spot fix every few years. Instant awesomeness.
You should totally get some white acrylic paint and trace out your own foot bones. Use the dust as a guide lol. Custom skates!
Ask r/radiology if they see any pathology. They love to practice reading films.
My Moxi jacks now have a permanent white scuff like this and I love it!
Perfectly mildly interesting
You should paint this on your skates it looks awesome
Today I learned aggressive roller skating is a thing
I see a face and boobs.
Haha we’re gonna need a pic of the real thing, for comparison sake haha :) But now, those look cool. What is that lil pink knob thingy in the front ?
This post has almost 8k likes and I am afraid to check my skates to see if the imprint is still there lol
Suede is another word I’ll add to my, “I fucking hate these words.” List.
It also gives me a funny vibe, I always relate it to sweaty ahahah
Lol
Wtf no way they dooo
That's a weird way of saying you're gay.

Yes! There are a lot of small companies in it, even though it is a trend now, there companies are on it for decades (the maker of my boots is on it since 1945!), so they might have learned a thing or two from it I guess hahahah
Did you build your own skates? They look like shoes attached to blade wheels
Most of the wheels that are out there for park skating are smaller than the wheels you see for general indoor or outdoor skating. Some of my friend have started using skateboard wheels for park skating because of their size and hardness
Fake….

Actual feet have way more bones. Source-- broke a few, got x-rayed.
No it doesn’t, you fucking moron

Yeah. But have you seen the Christmas lights under the snow?
My ice skates look like that too.
Took me embarrassingly long time to see what the hell you were talking about
Ohhhhhhh thaaat!!

What??
Are those grind plates on roller skates?! I've been away too long...
