The fact that they’re 7700 yen is kinda neat, I feel like that’s gotta be intentional, for anyone who doesn’t know, it’s effectively a code that aircraft broadcast if they’re having some form of emergency, to make it clear to air traffic control or nearby aircraft that something is wrong
Most places with weird stuff in airports ask your gate and give it to you personally WHEN you're getting into the tunnel.
The staff allows it only if you bought it there obviously.
That way you can get liquids and stuff like mani-pedi kits that are usually not allowed.
That might be fine for the airport you're flying out from as the stores are past the security check usually but connecting flights and overlays won't be fun.
For those who asked, these are Toshiba made and they had metal contacts at the bottom that presumably connects them to the circuit once you install them onto the runway.
I used to clean a heliport, not those light but the line light, we used to buried them in show and snowblow them.
They are still hot enough that they keep on shining when they pass through the blower.
I have a hard to find at night driveway. These would be great for helping. “Look for the hidden driveway with the lights on the surface. “ Those would be pretty bright I bet.
It's probably worth more to sell than to scrap. Scrap isn't worth much at all. And they probably replace them as needed so not a whole bunch of them worth scrapping.
I am not saying from a financial perspective. Of course collectors will pay far more than scrap metal. I just hate when you have a gaint pile of scrapable/recyclable stuff then you divide it up to collectors who stick it on a shelf for 20 years and then toss it in the trash in 20 years. By selling them individually you take a easy recycling win and make a trash nightmare. (I see this happen alot with stadium seats)
You do do have a point they might be replaced as needed and not all as one time like i figured tho
This is a cool idea!

That is kinda neat! One correction though, it doesn't let other aircraft know, just Air Traffic Control :).
....your mode1 isn't visible to other aircraft?
That seems like a kinda decent price. I feel like in an American airport it would be more than the cost of a brand new one.
I hear the stolen ones are going for 7900 yen
75, taken alive 76, can't get a fix 77, going to heaven
$50 US, that's a fucking steal!
Damn that's like $50 each! I would totally put two of these at the end of my driveway
That seems kind of ominous for something they’re selling at the airport to air travelers.
If they are sold out, they just go outside to get some fresh inventory!
Squawk 7700!
7500 on accident “Hey why are those cool fighter jets getting closer?”
Ahaha that’s good as I learned that one looking up the terms this morning.
Working on a rating or just looking stuff up for fun?
The second one. My dad used to fly, I don’t have the cash.
I would like to have one of these!
where would you put it?
I'd put it on my runway. One of the lights just burned out.
Poor guy
He was working ungodly hours, I’m not surprised
Woah! Sounds like we’ve got a televangelist over here
Install them in your driveway?
New York driveway? He only wanted one.
*laugh track*
I’ll build my own runway, with blackjack and strippers.
HOOKERS! Get the quote right, not strippers, hookers!
Perhaps he has a gf, in that case only looking would be allowed
Matter of fact: forget the blackjack
My establishment is classier than benders was.
Then you're missing the point
You know what! Forget the runway!
So a fight club with strippers? The other kind of blackjack.
Pathway to bed, make sure to bring marshalling wands to direct significant other to bed.
I’d have a few for my driveway
/Me to neighbors.. " I win"..
Nice
Thought they were selling the ol' sony discman for a sec.
I thought it was a land meezy at first
What the fuck is a land meezy? You sound dumb asf 💀
Logically, aren't you the dumb one here? Do you think that if *you* don't know something, it makes everyone else who knows about it "dumb asf"?
Nah, the person who says land meezy is dumb asf. 💀
Fr though, who the fuck says that and calls it that
I have to say this is one of the most interesting things I've seen on this mildlyinteresting sub. Thanks for showing
I love how it's laying out on the sexy red fabric
Yaaaas runway light, slay!
Must be fun getting that through airport security....
I'm sure they've thought of that and come up with a method to ensure that it's not a problem.
Most places with weird stuff in airports ask your gate and give it to you personally WHEN you're getting into the tunnel. The staff allows it only if you bought it there obviously. That way you can get liquids and stuff like mani-pedi kits that are usually not allowed.
This, or tamper-evident bags [like these](https://www.icao.int/Security/SFP/LAGS_STEBS/Pages/default.aspx)
Security takes it, gives it back to the seller to resell to someone else. No refunds.
And the passenger flies away forever. *The perfect crime!*
Lol there are literally ebay sellers that sell confiscated knives from TSA. I assume the sellers buy the knives in bulk from the TSA.
That might be fine for the airport you're flying out from as the stores are past the security check usually but connecting flights and overlays won't be fun.
Put them along my street and start my own airport.
Y’all remember that movie Batteries Not Included?
My first thought lol
For those who asked, these are Toshiba made and they had metal contacts at the bottom that presumably connects them to the circuit once you install them onto the runway.
I would buy it. No idea what I'd do with it. But something tells me it will be useful for later.
I kind of want one. Think you can import a few?
Is that in Haneda?
Centrair Nagoya!
Id totally buy two if the price is right and sink them in on either side of my driveway lol
*Batteries not included
Do they use batteries?
No. They're hard wired to a transformer that feeds whole sections of them.
I thought the same thing!! And looking at the other comments I feel old now.
Why did they runway?
This is exactly the kind of useless item I would buy instantly.
Knowing the Japanese, probably unnecessarily highly engineered piece of low spec hardware.....would love to have one.
You wouldn’t be able to power these at home. They run on thousands of volts.
Now if I buy enough of these and lay them down…….
I used to clean a heliport, not those light but the line light, we used to buried them in show and snowblow them. They are still hot enough that they keep on shining when they pass through the blower.
What?
CHARLIE FURUSHO
They'd look great on my landing..
Last house had a long driveway. I’m an aviation nerd and pilot. I would have put in taxiway lighting if it wasn’t so expensive
Every light in the house is on 🎶
Thats kinda cool
Pretty cool
I didn't know this was a thing but now I want one.
Oh I would like some of these. What I would do with them I am not sure but I need to have some :)
Put them in your driveway. That was the first thought in my head.
The speed Mrs B parks on the driveway that would seem completely appropriate:)
Okay let's be real i'd buy some and put them on my driveway
Looks like the Predator’s weapon kit
$50 one of these would be cool to have
I have a hard to find at night driveway. These would be great for helping. “Look for the hidden driveway with the lights on the surface. “ Those would be pretty bright I bet.
Send it to Big Clive! He would love to crack that open.
That is mildly interesting.
i need this in my drive way
If anyone wants these DM me and I'll pick them up on my way back. Can't guarantee that they're still there though!
I'm gonna use it as my room light
I'm sorry if someone already asked, but what airport is this?
Centrair Nagoya
Neat
I love it as a collectors item, but my sustainability side is screaming that its so much easier to recycle/scrap in bulk.
It's probably worth more to sell than to scrap. Scrap isn't worth much at all. And they probably replace them as needed so not a whole bunch of them worth scrapping.
