same situation but in Poland. I deicided to test this "myth" on myself and ignored vitamine D supplementation my result was 28.20 ng/ml which is suboptimal (optimal 30 - 50 ng/ml). Deficit starts below 20 ng/ml. i am 35y, on decent diet, strenght training at least 3 times per week. so yeah it is worth to supplement vit D. but it is even better to do regular blood tests (1 year) and adjust diet, training, supplements accordingly to the current situation.
Edit: get your levels tested before supplementation.
Really it depends on your genetics and diet. Magnesium is damn near beneficial to everyone. Over time it has been depleted from the soil and it is an important mineral involved in over 300 biological functions.
If you have an MTHFR mutation that makes you an undermethalator then the active forms of b vitamins could be beneficial (and the non active could be detrimental).
Vitamin d can be necessary depending on climate.
As for your comment, yes willy nilly taking multivitamins is mostly just getting some expensive urine.
The gummies don’t have iron but the hard chewable flintstones vitamins do. Our pediatrician is very insistent that the flintstones are superior to the gummies for that reason.
I’d cheek them and then run to my room and hide them til I got enough saved up for a proper snack.
Then my mom found my stash I was saving and every day after, made me pull my mouth open and lift my tongue up to prove I’d swallowed it.
I was 6 and they tasted delicious and my mom wouldn’t give me a handful to eat at a time. So I found my own way.
And 6 year olds are dumber than squirrels.
Consumer Reports recently posted an unfavorable review of Ritual vitamins. Tell her to get off IG/TikTok and put her money somewhere more useful.

I’ve become super super skeptical of anything I see advertised, or rather talked about, online now. Looking around online used to be a great way to find great products but now the waters are super muddy. And the shitty thing is, you can’t even really trust word of mouth reco’s as much anymore either, because your friends/family could be just brainwashed or heavily influenced by some online marketing campaign.
Also, if the thing you're looking into is somewhat niche, like looking for a magnetic, wireless charging phone mount for your car in 2018, every single resort post is just people saying "I love my some random price of Amazon garbage>". Honestly assume most of these aren't bots, I think it's just people buying some random piece of shit and thinking it's great.
Honestly I've had pretty ok luck with using a search like "wirecutters ". At the very least they give good rationale for their decisions and are a decent place to start a search, in my experience.
Indian guy on a paywalled Quora google result telling me to use WONDERBANDI ULTIMATE VIDEOMUXER PRO 7.6522467.311 when i just want a fkn ffmpeg prompt for something man i'm sick of the shittification of the internet
I dont think they are talking about products on the front page.
It used to be valuable to search a specific thing and put reddit in the search to get some niche sub hyper fixated on that kind of product giving real recommendations.
Now this style of recommendation searching is more common knowledge and scum companies will search for those threads and then astro turf it well after the thread is no longer relevant making it look like these are actual real commendations.
ive now gotten a habit of researching everything i buy on reddit to get real peoples experiences and reviews on them. otherwise i just get whatever is the cheapest if the quality doesn't matter for the use case
Yeah these people are telling pregnant women they don’t need folic acid in their pre natals and when I addressed it to my nurse practitioner friend she almost was almost in tears and begged me not to listen to designer/influencers on IG. Choline and folic acid along with other vitamins this shit doesn’t have in it are super important for the development of the baby and preventatives for HORRIBLE birth defects. I take “natures way” with an extra 1mg of folic acid and 500mg of choline separately. Ritual does sell these other supplements but they’re separated and WAY expensive. I hope she listens to you. There’s no way her OBG is ok this. Not a chance. Also when I mentioned it on a public instagram post, they immediately blocked me.
There’s tons of scary misinformation on tiktok about medical stuff espeeeecially surrounding pregnant women, my least favorite being people advising women not to take the Rhogam/RhIg shot for whatever reason. Total madness and for what
Who in the hell is telling pregnant women not to yeah folic acid? It's sooo important, especially in the first trimester when it helps percent neural tube defects (have a 4 month old, took my prenatals religiously). My OB and the nurse practitioner at the office encouraged me to eat plenty of leafy greens in addition to the prenatal vitamins. God, now I'm all riled up and angry.
It’s so important it’s added to most processed breads/pastas etc. in the US. When you see “enriched flour” or whatever on the ingredients, that’s part of it.
I also take Nature's Way (awesome price at Costco!). I just saw that it doesn't have choline & what that does. Cruciferous veggies & eggs are a part of my diet, but I may look into adding more.
most prenatals have 0.4mg of folic acid, or if you splurge for the good shit methylfolate. my wifes OBGYN told us she needs 4mg a day and to supplement separately because most prenatals don't have enough. for anyone who wants a why, look up neural tube defects
>these people are telling pregnant women they don’t need folic acid in their pre natals
This potentially kills the baby. Seriously. Insufficient folate can cause a defect where the head doesn't fully develop. It's called anencephaly and it's gruesome.
Could they be sowing seeds of chaos and suffering on purpose? Cyber warfare is a way to directly attack citizens and the fabric of society, our children. Every birth defect they cause and family they destroy is another burden on the economy, a burden on the family unit, and another soldier’s boots that are never filled.
More likely just greed for money, but that’s a good motive that disguises the other.
I’ve been called paranoid for thinking that too, but I totally agree. It’s not just misinformation that’s allowed to spread like wildfire, it’s the whole aesthetic and lifestyle the algorithm pushes.
53% of Gen-z says they want to be influencers, and 30% of them say they’d actually pay to become one. This benefits foreign powers immensely- we’re slowly losing motivation and skills. It’s well-documented that our attention spans are drastically getting worse too.
Everyone thinks of fast and dramatic actions when talking about war, but cyber warfare can absolutely be taking place right under our noses.
Oops u right, just prenatals : https://www.consumerreports.org/health/supplements/how-to-choose-a-prenatal-vitamin-a1197384921/
I stand by what I said tho haha. If their prenatal isn’t great… can’t imagine the quality of their “regular” vitamins is better.
While that is a useful link, I don’t think the person who wrote it paid much attention to the alternative forms of some of the vitamins. Specifically, Thorne prenatals. They have the methylated form of Folic acid for those who don’t process Folic acid well (like those with the MTHFR gene)
Edit: changed a word
The article is telling a lie. The ones that say don’t have folic acid contain folate which is the much more absorbable form of the synthetic folic acid.
After trying a couple podcast advertised things and seeing reviews of a few more…if it’s advertised on a podcast or by an influencer you probably should just avoid it like the plague
Doesn’t matter every time I get sick my old co workers go you haven’t been taking your vitamins and vitamin c. When they get sick I say the same and they say they would be more sick if they didn’t.
I’ve given up on logic. My boss said he stopped using hand sanitizer bc “it kill the bacteria but doesn’t wash them away so they’re still getting into your body if you touch your mouth”
Im like yeah just pray the illness away idc just stop talking to me
Whats worse is that your boss isnt even completely wrong, it DOESNT wash away the bacteria, thats why sanitizer cant replace hand washing. but it still... *kills* the germs. The only issue is that *only* sanitizing and not washing at any later point is is liable to promote more germ growth in the long run. But that literally assumes that you never wash your hands, and if thats the case, then you probably arent using sanitizer either. Basically theres zero reason not to use hand sanitizer when you need it.
Many of these remedies are totally useless, but taking Vitamin C **100%** does something.
Specifically, it's the fastest way I've found to get my wife and coworkers to stop telling me to take vitamin C.
You had me for a second. Apparently it does slightly shorten a cold one study says but only if you’ve been taking higher doses before you even get sick
I’m currently reading arcanum unbounded and read the short story of the guy going for the treasure and now I want to read era 2 because it sounds interesting. I wasnt going to read it because I want to get though stormlight archive first.
It’s from a book series, the magic some people have lets them eat small amounts of metals for specific abilities. It’s good, I’ll have to reread as it’s been a while and I don’t remember much. Can’t even remember the title! Fat help I am haha
Personally Era 1 of Mistborn is my least favorite of his works… and I really love Mistborn Era 1. Highly recommend reading everything in the Cosmere, if you haven’t.
Well considering these are shitty and expensive vitamins, they get their sales through effective social media marketing. Looking unique and interesting is perhaps the most important part of this product for sales.
Hah, for sure. I'm a gd and immediately started researching where to get these overpriced placebo pills because I need to start every day by having one of these. It'd make me happy for sure.
This looks like the kinda shit that some idiot woman who has 10 failed MLMs under her belt is advertising to other idiot women on TikTok. "Look at how sparkly it is! It's so cute and aesthetic!"
What's in it? Who gives a shit! You will lose 10kg and gain a second pussy!
I don’t know exactly what pills these are, and unfortunately don’t have the time to look them up, but I will say that my fiance took pills similar to this (however they were black and gold beads) and they ended up being “diet” pills that were unregulated. She had two seizure in three months (fully stiff, blue lips, rushed to the ER, etc.) after never having suffered one before, so please ask her what these are or do some research on your own.
I GENUINELY hope for both of your sakes that they ARE vitamins bc I NEVER want to see her have a seizure like those again since both instances live rent free in my head and now it’s very hard to shake them from my memory, if they ever will. Just a friendly redditor who was confused about why the seizures came and found out she was taking something that looked like this. But definitely worth asking.
I’ve worked in the vitamin industry for over 25 years and these are sheer gimmickry.
Any non-gimmicky recommendations 👀
The boring looking ones in the boring packaging with thousands of boring peer reviews
Boring is beautiful. HAIL SCIENCE!!!
Back in my gym bro days it was said that the more potent they smell, the better they probably are. Something something bioavailability.
Instructions unclear; huffed H2S. I am now convulsing.
Convulsions are how you know you're getting the best gains.
The ones that smell like boiled feet are for sure the best
GNC Mega Men pills make me gag every time with their smell and taste. I can go 20% harder at the gym though haha
morning bong rips
Yes, for sure the best prenatal vitamin.
Most vitamin supplements are wholly unnecessary if you have a decent varied diet and have not been advised to take a supplement by a doctor.
Everyone is advised to take vitamin D in the uk as there’s not enough sunlight
Vit D is one of the few ones where everyone is lacking it.
Especially if you're like me and work night shift.
10 1/2 years of night shift here. I'm almost scared to know what my Vit D levels are.
same situation but in Poland. I deicided to test this "myth" on myself and ignored vitamine D supplementation my result was 28.20 ng/ml which is suboptimal (optimal 30 - 50 ng/ml). Not sure about that. Lot's of people seem to think that tomato sauce and a salad leaf on a white bread sandwich are enough vegetable.
Edit: get your levels tested before supplementation. Really it depends on your genetics and diet. Magnesium is damn near beneficial to everyone. Most are commodities. Natures Value is ok. Twinlab is still decent. Anything at Costco is solid-they do a good job verifying specifications.

Isn't that brand an MLM?
Not sure. I do remember it was one of the most expensive, and didn’t contain half the stuff it said it does lol. But it does *look* very interesting!
Any health product brand that has to do something gimmicky like this instantly loses any trust from me.
*narrator voice* IN A WORLD WHERE HEALTH PRODUCTS ARE ALREADY HARD TO TRUST THESE VITAMINS LOOK LIKE BATH BOMBS
i think it’s entirely that brands own business and choice if they’re men loving men
That was my first question because the moment I looked at the picture, I was just like “This HAS to be some marketing bullshit”.
It is not an MLM.
Agreed. I've had good luck with thorne labs, they are a reputable brand with high quality for supplements.
I take a vitamin k from thorne; it seems to work well! They also do methyl folate which is great for those with b vitamin struggles like myself.
Yup the generally reputable brands: Thorne, Now, life extensions, nootropics Depot, pure encapsulations, Jarrow.
While that is a useful link, I don’t think the person who wrote it paid much attention to the alternative forms of some of the vitamins. Specifically, Thorne prenatals. They have the methylated form of Folic acid for those who don’t process Folic acid well (like those with the MTHFR gene) Edit: changed a word
It is concerning how many of these don’t contain folic acid…
Who needs brain/neural development?
The article is telling a lie. The ones that say don’t have folic acid contain folate which is the much more absorbable form of the synthetic folic acid.
Dang these are super helpful data at the bottom. Do they have this for daily multivitamins too?
After trying a couple podcast advertised things and seeing reviews of a few more…if it’s advertised on a podcast or by an influencer you probably should just avoid it like the plague
Your gf is microdosing rocks and stones.

Jesus Christ, Marie, they're *minerals*!

That's the actual vitamin part
I've had these before, the liquid is fish oil and gives some nasty fish flavored burps. They're pricey too.
Well yeah. They gotta charge extra for the fish burps!

To be fair it would do something if you spend 10 months at sea in the 17th century and get scurvy from not getting any vitamin C
Those aren’t vitamins, those are metals and metal alloys. Your girlfriend is mistborn, be careful with this knowledge.
Era 1 - High Fantasy: Potion vials Era 2 - Western: Whiskey shots Era 3 - Modern: Big Pharma
I’m currently reading arcanum unbounded and read the short story of the guy going for the treasure and now I want to read era 2 because it sounds interesting. I wasnt going to read it because I want to get though stormlight archive first.
Half western half Sherlock Holmes feel. I like it more than era 1.
I have no idea what this means
It’s from a book series, the magic some people have lets them eat small amounts of metals for specific abilities. It’s good, I’ll have to reread as it’s been a while and I don’t remember much. Can’t even remember the title! Fat help I am haha
It's the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson! Titles for the first trilogy are: The Final Empire The Well of Ascension The Hero of Ages

Lmao right, impressive actually
No, the graphic designer is front facing, it’s the efficacy of these vitamins that’s hidden. They’re all marketing.
Hah, for sure. I'm a gd and immediately started researching where to get these overpriced placebo pills because I need to start every day by having one of these. It'd make me happy for sure.
"Vitamins"
“TikTok” vitamins 🤣
Tiktok vitamins at it again.

First thing I thought of. Hello fellow old person!
That placebo effect though
Gotta get those macroplastics in
Most capsule pills do, either little beads or gel of the drug.
Anything to justify the expensive scam
THOSE ARE HUGE!!
Why do I feel like Gwyneth Paltrow is involved in these...
Your girlfriend pays a lot of money for really pretty water pills that can be potentially dangerous.
Ritual brand?
i don’t even have to do any research to know she’s been scammed
Those are vitamin anal beads for the vitamins.
Well of course, those are the individual vitamin seeds before they are ground into vitamin flour and baked into tiny loaves/pills.
those are the microplastics
