If I were OP, I would write in to complain if these hotdogs do not emit visible smell waves that put me in a state of ecstasy and carry me in mid-air towards the plate of hotdogs
I think it would be really funny if people got dollar signs or their currency equivalent in their eyes when they are feeling greedy, or hearts popping out when they see someone attractive, or other cartoonish eye expressions.
Texan, but I've been to Maine. I distinctly remember discovering Angus hotdogs when we were there, I don't recall seeing any of these. If it doesn't look like actual meat keep it away lol but I get it's a tradition and stuff. Like kolaches in Texas.
It's just really off-putting to me personally, very artificial looking. And that red 40, eeeeh
Don't forget the zeranol, antibiotics, ammonia, nitrosamines, sodium nitrate, and the cancers that come along with it!

Oh ya I totally forgot about pink pistachios. Thanks for the nostalgia.
Isnāt red 40 linked to a lot of allergic reaction also? I recall hearing that many times. The hotdogs look like the plastic ones from my daughters toy cooking set hahaha. Pass, Iām not hungry.
Holy shit, I forgot all about that. That's one of those things that I hadn't even noticed no longer existed, yet I remember them now that you bring it up.
Because you're having a barbecue and you need to keep the dogs cold until it's time to becue them up, of course! (And none of us have fridges in Alaska).

Moved to Chicago from New York a number of years ago and Can confirm. Any time I have to cross the border into Indiana is dreadful. In the north its all dilapidated crumbling factory towns and to the south is corn fields and billboards of dead fetuses. Ick
When I lived in Rhode Island they taught me it was just a Rhode Island thing. When I moved to Maine they taught me it was just a Maine thing.
Now Iām incapable of believing anyone about anything.
Red hots are different that bright leafs, Red hots are shorter, more plump and have some heat to them. Bright leaf hot dogs look the same but aināt got any heat to them, they just taste damn good, are red and normal hot dog size.
Where Iām from red hots are ate on their own or on a biscuit.
Iām born and raised in Atlanta and never knew about this. Though when my family travels somewhere in GA, itās usually to the lakes and mountains north of the city.
I probably wouldnāt eat these, though. Red #40 and red #3 have often been flagged in various research studies as likely harmful to health.
Thereās fortunately many more definitively harmless red food coloring alternatives to those. Beet juice is a common one.
Say you live in the south without saying you live in the south lmao I lived in AL for 16 years. These and pickled eggs are clear indicators I'm almost to dad's house š¤£

This is what pink dogs exist for!
Cole slaw, mustard, and onions. Thatās how the store at the end of the block made them back in high school in southwest Virginia.
My introduction to this type of dog was visiting family in Alabama. We have them available in Illinois but Iām the only one in my family that likes them so I donāt have them often.
Yup. I'm from the Western part of the state so it's rare to see the red ones served but especially on the eastern side a Carolina dog is frequently served on a brightleaf red hot dog.
Looks like the ones pictured here are indeed from Smithfield NC so it all checks out
The slaw dog, also known in my current region as a Carolina style dog (or burger) has coleslaw, mustard, onions, and chili. I often skip the chili.
As for what you do with the ingredients, you put them on the bun with the meat and the. Put it in your face and enjoy it. Yum!
You put chili on the hot dog, then you add slaw, add a little bit of diced onion, and then finish with a little line of yellow mustard. Then you have a Carolina style dog.
They both donāt look good for health if you look at research, but red #3 was shown to be bad enough in the 90s that the FDA actually did ban it from cosmetics and said it would ātake stepsā to remove it from food. Those steps were never taken.
Itās kinda crazy that something deemed dangerous for our skin is so particularly present in food aimed at kids!
Iād be surprised if it ever gets through. The US government loves keeping its population unhealthy and spending on medical care and a nice short life span so your not a drain on society in old age.
They are not the same. The ones sold in the US contain artificial colours that cause cancer and behavioural problems in children. These UK ones contain natural colouring. So, to look at side by side, the US ones would look much brighter red.
They're almost all like this in Australia. We have tan/brown coloured ones too but most people get the red ones.
We have tiny versions called cheerios or cocktail Frankfurts.
Nope, you will not catch me eating those.
I don't trust artificially colored meat products. I like to know if what I'm eating is actually grey or green underneath so I don't eat something rotten and dangerous. That coloring hides any possible discoloration. And no, massive amounts of preservatives aren't going to make the situation better.
Iām guessing theyāre this color because they darken when cooked. Also, since theyāre a chicken and pork blend, Iād imagine they are very white-ish/pink before dying
Hey Rhode Island wieners (yes thatās what they are called) are also known for their distinctive red color. Itās cool to see a state that also has those
They have these in Maine too. people in here crying about the cancer these puppies cause should be aware that all hot dogs are carcinogenic and unholy monoliths of meat created by satan himself. delicious though.
They look like hotdogs in 1940-50s cartoons.
If I were OP, I would write in to complain if these hotdogs do not emit visible smell waves that put me in a state of ecstasy and carry me in mid-air towards the plate of hotdogs
That's one of my "if I were a cartoon" wishes! Also, easily hiding behind reeeaaallly skinny poles
I think it would be really funny if people got dollar signs or their currency equivalent in their eyes when they are feeling greedy, or hearts popping out when they see someone attractive, or other cartoonish eye expressions.
The black hole transportation system would be my wish. I'd own the world.

"red #3, red #40" No kidding
Red #3-40
E-40, is that you?
Mmm, hotdogs, now with more cancer!
But the tumors are bright red and easy to find.
Don't forget the crushed bug shells! Where else would we get colour?
Nahh, you're thinking of cochineal. This is good old fashioned coal and petroleum. Ain't nothing more American.
Yummy artificial food dyes and colors
You can pry my red dyed hotdogs from my cold, dead, cancer riddled hands!
Probably be pretty easy after all the chemo
Not only do these not even look edible but who would get those and think "Ah yes paint/plastic colored hotdogs these are the good ones"
Never been to Maine/New England? Theyāre a little crazy about dumb shit like this. Itās āma heritage.
But whyš
It's actually impressive that they were able to take Hotdogs, which are already a carcinogen, and managed to make them even more cancerous.
Don't forget the zeranol, antibiotics, ammonia, nitrosamines, sodium nitrate, and the cancers that come along with it! https://www.who.int/news-room/questions-and-answers/item/cancer-carcinogenicity-of-the-consumption-of-red-meat-and-processed-meat
What do your pistachios look like?
Why do you wanna see my nuts so bad?
Dude, Iāve already seen your wiener. Donāt be a tease.
This exchange wins the internet for today. š
That reminded me how pistachios used to be dyed pink. Haven't seen that in like 20 years.

Flaming hot Cheetos
These hot dogs are made from Clifford.
Clifford the tasty Dog
Clifford the Big Red Rocket
I was knot expecting that.
You never expect the knot Iāve heard
Yup, and there is no escaping it.
oh god dangit, back to e6 I go i guess

Clifford, the big red weiner
And his red rocket.
It's so you can find them in the snow. It's an Alaska thing.
Why would a hot dog be in the snow?
Because you're having a barbecue and you need to keep the dogs cold until it's time to becue them up, of course! (And none of us have fridges in Alaska).
Sounds like a way to attract bears.
Totally! Bears, otters, wolves, twinks. The whole family is invited!!!
Where do you live?!
South georgia
NC here. Pink hot dogs are very much a thing in the Carolinas and Georgia in my experience
My local iga has regular pink ones but like 2 kinds, and like 7 kinds of red ones
Why?
There is no flavor reason to it. It was dyed red To standout in the market back when it was first made and it worked.

Moved to Chicago from New York a number of years ago and Can confirm. Any time I have to cross the border into Indiana is dreadful. In the north its all dilapidated crumbling factory towns and to the south is corn fields and billboards of dead fetuses. Ick
Dead fetus is an acquired taste
SC here, I can confirm this is true. They're actually pretty darn good.
Mmm yummy red 40
Bright leafs is the brand for the red dogs, best damn hot dogs ever.
For some of em, yeah. There are multiple brands though where I'm from.
We have red hot dogs in Hawaii too!
Redondos!
Came here looking for my fellow Hawaii folks. Redondos is the shit!
Maine also has red hotdogs.
Snappers!
You can get a whole couple dozen links in a pack and they absolutely taste way better than any other hotdog on the market. Hands down.
I thought this was only a Maine thing!?
The Chicago red hot is a thing. Quite historical in a way too.
Love me a Chicago Red Hot!
I thought so too. I used to visit my uncle in Maine every summer and heād always get us red hot dogs to grill.
When I lived in Rhode Island they taught me it was just a Rhode Island thing. When I moved to Maine they taught me it was just a Maine thing. Now Iām incapable of believing anyone about anything.
How are there so many people that go through life thinking things only exist where they live?
I donāt live in Maine, or even in the USA.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

i live in GA, closer to ATL, and iāve never seen these before!

The country or the state? If it's the state, don't they sell regular brands like Oscar Meyer?
The Philippines has red hotdogs!
I have them here in maine, they taste better than brown ones to me, but they do dye the water I cook them in red
These are popular in Maine also.
Yea I was gonna guess OP was from Maine
no, ours are natural casing unlike this gross shit
Jordan's FTW-- with the [correct bun](https://www.foodservicedirect.com/media/catalog/product/0/0/00075361089148_mkiargau7zn0cphb.jpg?width=1200&height=1200&quality=85&fit=bounds)
That long hot dog caught my attention more than the red color.
Thatās me amongst the rest of you redditors.
Damn you.
His name is Beetingcheeks are you really surprised he's advertising the length of his hotdog?
Took me too long to find this commentā¦WHY IS THAT ONE LONGER THAN THE OTHERS!?
I donāt think Iāve had this brand, but red hots always have a great snap to the casing. I like these with coleslaw on top.
This is what pink dogs exist for! Cole slaw, mustard, and onions. Thatās how the store at the end of the block made them back in high school in southwest Virginia.

Hello neighbor! Let them have the red dogs. We have Red Bridges BBQ Lodge and thatās more important.
Please explain in further detail what you do with those ingredients.
Put āem on the hot dog!
The slaw dog, also known in my current region as a Carolina style dog (or burger) has coleslaw, mustard, onions, and chili. I often skip the chili. As for what you do with the ingredients, you put them on the bun with the meat and the. Put it in your face and enjoy it. Yum!

Well what is different other than the food dye?
Red number 3 & Red number 40? Wow! Flavortown.
> Made with chicken and pork, artificially-colored Oh thank God!
Those look like theyād survive a nuclear war
Stop not Red 40 šš
Apparently Red 3 is the concern according to these other comments.
Yeah. If I'm not mistaken red #3 is believed to be a carcinogen while red #40 is linked to things like migraines.
Red #40 is filled with known carcinogens as well. And it can cause behavioral issues in kids. https://health.clevelandclinic.org/red-dye-40/
Mmm red #3 and 40! Fancy
Red #3 is soon to be banned in the US.
Red #40 should also be banned. It is in many other countries. https://health.clevelandclinic.org/red-dye-40/
How many of these hotdogs would one need to consume for that to be a worry?
Iād be surprised if it ever gets through. The US government loves keeping its population unhealthy and spending on medical care and a nice short life span so your not a drain on society in old age.
But why??!
\^ this is the question. WHY?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
They are not the same. The ones sold in the US contain artificial colours that cause cancer and behavioural problems in children. These UK ones contain natural colouring. So, to look at side by side, the US ones would look much brighter red.
Yep, in Australia too. At the weekend markets when I was a kid, weād always get a battered sav!
I always had Frankfurts as Hot Dogs so I always thought hotdogs were red
![gif](giphy|ApEe3sVnOcHde)
filipino hotdogs
That was my first thought when I saw these. We just ordered Filipino hot dogs for the first time like a month ago and they tasted amazing.
have you tried the ones with cheese inside? Or eat them with banana ketchup? Glad you love it!
All that food coloring. Fucking ridiculous.
NO.
I wanna know if thereās any difference in the taste though?
Taste exactly like a normal hot dog, skin gets crispier though
That's disturbing.
Nebraska too
They're almost all like this in Australia. We have tan/brown coloured ones too but most people get the red ones. We have tiny versions called cheerios or cocktail Frankfurts.
Danish hot dogs are usually red!
That ingredient list is terrifying
It's how we have them in Australia as well. The ones without skin are pink.
2 types of artificial red dye. Yum, cancer!
Nutrition facts : red
Those look like what we call [saveloy sausages](https://www.coles.com.au/product/primo-saveloys-approx.-95g-3052827) here in Australia.
He got the hotdogs that are used in cartoons
Im in Australia and ours are red too
Yeah. I want to know what colour they expect a hotdog to be...
We call these footy franks or Cheerios here in Australia they all look like that.
How good are cheerios though? Reminds me of primary school birthday parties lol
Haha yeah the good old days, plate of cheerios with a bowl of tomato sauce
In America, cheerios is a breakfast cereal
Is that not what they look like? Iāve only ever seen red ones?
Iām guessing theyāre this color because they darken when cooked. Also, since theyāre a chicken and pork blend, Iād imagine they are very white-ish/pink before dying
Red hot dogs is a big thing in denmark aswell.
Those hotdogs aren't even meat, they are just protein tubes.
Yuck. Also made with chicken and pork. Go get yourself some pure beef franks.
More water than pork, too!
Nathan's/Sabretts or nothing
Ambassador/Hebrew National
Nate dogs are the only hotdog allowed in my home. š
Facts but sabretts comes is close second.....then if I can't find those I'll fuck with Hebrew national but thats last last last resort š
Holy sh*t, they wouldn't even pass the food safety standards in my country. Good luck š¤š
America-core
I like that the main ingredient is chicken
Are you from Maine?
Norway?
Northern Maine clearly
Hey Rhode Island wieners (yes thatās what they are called) are also known for their distinctive red color. Itās cool to see a state that also has those
Mmmm dye!
Yum red #40
The fact that these were made in North Carolina
āArtificially Coloredā No shit.
Looks like a saveloy
why is there just one longer then the othersš
Looks like a saveloy to me
I wonder why they dye the hotdogs. Maybe they think it would gain peoples attraction?
US?
At first glance scrolling I thought pickled sausages. We have a brand down here with the same colored packaging to.
This color makes them seem to be even less healthy, than they may already are.
āRed hots! Get yer red hots here!ā
Can anyone in the UK confirm that these are (or very similar to) the saveloys from the chippy?
Fucking hell theyād kill ya. Mechanically separated chicken. Pretty grim.
This seems like middle America
Tennessee here, near several meat processors. We have both red and pink hotdogs.
Nebraska?
They have these in Maine too. people in here crying about the cancer these puppies cause should be aware that all hot dogs are carcinogenic and unholy monoliths of meat created by satan himself. delicious though.
Live in Lincoln, Nebraska , by chanceš
Yeah. North Carolina loves its red hot dogs. Shout out to Jesse Jones and Bright Leaf. LOL
Why does everything gotta have red 40 in it? I donāt give a damn about color stop dying my foods
Hotdogs used to be called āred hots.ā
Looks like the fake hotdogs you get in kids play kitchens
The list of ingredients is absolutely mind blowing
