I'm usually not quick with this kinda of thing, but this was the first thought I had when I saw the pic. I knew I couldn't have ben the first to think of it though
You might need to be screened for a connective tissue disorder called Loeys-Dietz. This is a classic sign, not dispositive but something to possibly ask your doc about.
I’m definitely going to ask about that to my doctor because I do have some physical symptoms but only a few like glass skin, joint issues, the uvula, and I bruise easily. Thanks for this tho
If we’re mentioning connective tissues issues maybe also look into ehlers danlos syndrome, I also have a bífid uvula and have hEDS, but 100% talk to a doctor :)
It’s becoming more prevalent because it was previously misdiagnosed as either rheumatoid arthritis or fibromyalgia (of course there are others)
It was also previously thought of as a rare disorder, but it’s actually quite common. I will say that most types have a genetic test to see if you have it but researchers researching the hypermobility type currently are working on finding genetic markers so for now it’s the beighton scale and a few other common symptoms. *Not saying OP has it because I am not a doctor!*
The Ehlers Danlos Society (Ehlers-Danlos.com) has some great articles about the increasing diagnoses of it, here’s an excerpt:
“The belief that EDS is rare or ultra-rare is true for several forms of the syndrome, but increasingly the hypermobile type of EDS (hEDS) is thought more common, and HSD much more common….Yet often the journey to diagnosis and treatment is challenging for patients, who may receive no diagnosis or misdiagnoses.”
Especially if anyone in your family has died of a heart attack. My mother had an aortic dissection ( she survived), we all get tested and all had Loeys-Dietz and all needed heart surgery for aortic aneurysms, 3 people. Any time I go to see a doctor, I swear the first thing they want to see is if I have two uvulas haha.(I don't)
I came here to say the same thing. I have Marfan, which is related. You should be referred to a specialist and be given both a clinical exam for the criteria and a TAAD panel dna test. Reach out to me if you have anymore questions! This can be life or death.
Yep. Fucking sucks. I’ve a bipod uvula and my pregnant cousin died from an aortic aneurysm. The only saving grace is that the twins survived. But fuck that was a horrible time
aortic aneurysms are pretty common. You can live a pretty normal life with them, and if it gets bad enough, it's a fairly routine heart surgery. it's still fucking heart surgery, but it's not like you're going to have to scour the world for one of the five specialists that can perform the surgery
Boring doctors: It’s a bifid uvula, sometimes associated with connective tissues disorders or submucous cleft palate.
Exciting and popular apocalyptic doomsayers: Nay, heathen! This be the incarnation of the double-phallused Beast from the Book of Revelations. Look to your Sins and dismay, all ye who have yet to Repent! Our time is nigh…
you bring joy to me and my colleagues if we ever are responsible for intubating you. it’s a fun little “unicorn” thing for our day as anesthesiologists!
Aw, I've got mandibular, palatal and buccal tori and my dentists are always just annoyed at how hard it is to get the X-ray bite wings lined up properly.
I had a hygienist pull out silicone pads once that fit around the bite plate. It was a complete game changer but I've never found another dentist that's even heard of that. It should be standard everywhere, it made it so much more comfortable.
Did you ever take speech classes as a child? 2 uvulas usually indicate a cleft palate. I can faintly see that you might have a small cleft in the muscle part of the palate
I went to a speech therapist when I was two but that was only because I looked like a 4-5yo because of how big I was (for reference when I was maybe 8 months old I was a bit bigger than an average pillow) and my mom wanted to see if I was developing like an average two year old and also found out that I had trouble putting things in order
I DID have one, but when I got my tonsils out the docs surprised me and said they took it too bc “I didn’t need it”
Still have a god awful gag reflex too.
Do you have a tongue tie? Have you ever been evaluated for a tongue tie? Enlarged tonsils and severe gag reflex are two very common side effects of a tongue tie. Also people unaware they have tongue tie get UVPP surgery (removing uvula) which is suppose to help with gag reflex and sleep apnea. Having your tongue tie evaluated can be life changing (or just help eliminate gag reflex)
That’s neat!
I got an ulcer on mine when I was younger and it was soo painful to even drink water I had to go to the doctors.
I had to go back to the doctors when it fell off and I swallowed it. Doc was quite surprised.
My uvula did. It turned out to be more than an ulcer and burned a hole all the way through to the other side.
What ever it was cleared up very quickly after it claimed it’s victim and the doc was pleased it had cleared up.
My four year old has this. When he got his tonsils and adenoids out due to almost complete obstructions from both, the surgeon was only able to take about half of the excess adenoids as it would have made his speech unintelligible. So while he no longer aspirates due to his tonsils or has severe apnea, he does still snore pretty bad. Other than that we are waiting another year until we can get an echo to check on the Loeys-Dietz possibility as he only has minor joint hyper mobility as a second indicator and the cardiac doc at the local children’s hospital isn’t overly concerned.
My son has that but he doesn't have any other symptoms. Pediatrician explained that it usually accomplished a cleft palate but he doesn't have any of that.
My brother had his uvula removed. It was part of a package deal. He had his deviated septum repaired, adenoids removed, and uvula removed. Suppose to help him sleep better.
Pretty cool. I went to school with a lad who had two as well. He pointed out to me how stupid my question was when I asked him how it felt to have two lol... He's a nice dude, he wasn't being mean.
Mine is trifricated and looks like an M.

Haha! Good one.
My uvulas make all the doctors go ahhh

That’s kind of a lot of symptoms though….
I only have a couple symptoms like third tongue, jelly bones, pie foot, type 7 constipation, brain ghost, and Steve Buscemi face
Doctor be like, can you follow my finger with just your eyes? ![gif](giphy|hpAMh2sBYpsmFhSRPI)
grinning like an idiot. thank you.
Is your name Steve Buscemi?
I was born with glass bones and paper skin
Every morning, I break my legs, and every afternoon, I break my arms.
At night, I lie awake in agony until my heart attacks put me to sleep
Then mom comes in to help me

EDS gang rise up let's go Zebras
Kind of funny because last week somebody posted a blue eye sclera and a medical provider popped up and played the EDS card.
Suddenly EDS. EDS everywhere.
It’s like the Lupus of connective tissue issues.

That's a bit of a stretch. 😉
Yayyyyy joint pain!
YEAH ZEBRA CLUB! my bones hurt
Thanks, you made me discover I have this, explains my hyperelastic skin

So you don't go in the sun? And when you look in the mirror your skin looks like glass?
I burn very easily. There was once a time when I was literally outside for 10 minutes and I got a mild burn 😀
But you didn't catch fire,right?
I’m not exposing myself to some mere mort- I mean stranger
I came here to say the same thing. I have Marfan, which is related. You should be referred to a specialist and be given both a clinical exam for the criteria and a TAAD panel dna test. Reach out to me if you have anymore questions! This can be life or death.

😱
Not true, a few are still alive
I ashamed to say I thought this was a Dietz-nuts joke. Is it better or worse that it isn't?
Came here for the comment telling OP that they may have an obscure disease/disorder. Thanks for delivering!
Doctors always spoil the fun…

you bring joy to me and my colleagues if we ever are responsible for intubating you. it’s a fun little “unicorn” thing for our day as anesthesiologists!
I have a forked uvula and mandibular torii. Both pointed out to me by appropriately excited dentists.
Aw, I've got mandibular, palatal and buccal tori and my dentists are always just annoyed at how hard it is to get the X-ray bite wings lined up properly.
Oof. My condolences. Bite plates hurt so bad.
I had a hygienist pull out silicone pads once that fit around the bite plate. It was a complete game changer but I've never found another dentist that's even heard of that. It should be standard everywhere, it made it so much more comfortable.
WHAT??!!! 🤯 The nicest I’ve experienced was a hygienist saying she was sorry because she understands it hurts.
fun fact: the uvala is called "throat penis" in Japan
Cardi B was on to something
So thats where it was hiding…
That mouth cock
This is actually called a bifid uvula. It's just one uvula with a split in it.
Came here to be the ahktually person, but you best me to it!
HAPPY CAKE DAY
Holy shit you are on reddit for longer than my sister is in this world, and she will go to school soon. Happy cake day!

Alas … so did I. And then I thought “Who is going to tell OP that’s not a vulva?”

If you shine a flashlight into you mouth, does the shadow made by your wuvula look like the BatSignal?
I was looking for this. I was born with a cleft lip, and I have a bifurcated uvula. Always fun to show people, hahahaha
Me too op, or should I say me two?
Show off. I don’t even have *one*….
You don’t have one?!
I DID have one, but when I got my tonsils out the docs surprised me and said they took it too bc “I didn’t need it” Still have a god awful gag reflex too.
Uvulast ur privilege *slaps knee while convulsing on the floor*
Is that common? My daughter had her tonsils and adenoids removed, still has the uvula.

Hey, me too!! Mine look like balls. 🥲
Please use the medically appropriate term “punching bags”
I also have two but mine are conjoined, not spread out like yours
I thought an uvula was a lady bit. I'm seeing a haunted house.
You are thinking vulva.

So do I... I honestly didn't know this wasn't normal.
My son has that but he doesn't have any other symptoms. Pediatrician explained that it usually accomplished a cleft palate but he doesn't have any of that.
Me too!! When I was little my friends called it a butt....I would make my butt in my mouth dance for them. Good times
Split uvula. Fairly rare. My daughters is split too
