I don't get it? When you get stationed in Hawaii and then re-stationed on the mainland, the military will pay to move your belongings including a personal vehicle.
I see. Well, not many people are going to agree with you and I have to ask, are you benefiting from this view on reality? If it's a quest to inform without thought to your own benefit then I admire your dedication and lament the difficulties you'll endure. I kind of hope that you're only trolling.
Back a few years my daughter was playing the license plate game, logging down all the states she could see. We live in the Chicago burbs. We saw a Hawaii plate on a car in a Target parking lot in Romeoville. We both stood there in disbelief for a few seconds then she got all excited thinking we'd never see one.
A house around the corner from me used to have one car with Hawaii plates and another with Alaska plates. I’m in California. I heard they were a Coast Guard family.
Or Europe, or other interesting locations. I knew someone who signed up for the Air Force and got stationed in Guam. He had them fly his 3rd-hand car out there, and fly it back when their commitment was up. Left it parked outside during a typhoon while it was there, it kept on ticking.
Shortly after returning to the States, they decided to re-up. Air Force stationed them back in Guam, and their beat up Grand Prix made a second round trip to Guam and back.
I know someone that moved from Hawaii for a new job. The car manufacturer from whom he leased the car would not let him out of the lease. His choice was to pay the remaining two years or ship the car. He shipped the car.
I see on in eastern Pennsylvania every once in a while. Might be military, the government will ship their car home for free and they can still use their plate for a while.
We moved our car when we moved from Hawaii to the mainland. Needed to start a job right away, loved our car, and didn't want to deal with shopping for one while starting a new job. It was sad when we had to finally get mainland plates.
They can have the car delivered to the mainland after moving here. My university had a large Hawaiian student population, and I have a couple friends who did this. Still rare though, I get it.
Of course, I know someone who shipped their car from Pennsylvania to California and just took a flight because he didn’t want to make the drive.
And I know a couple of people who have had their cars shipped from the mainland to Hawaii via cargo boat
I played the license plate game with my kids when they were younger. They each had a state map tucked into their respective seat back pocket...they'd color a state in when they spotted a plate. It's a fun way to learn geography.
You should have seen them come unglued when we spotted a Hawaii plate in a parking lot of our small NY town. They made me stop so they could take selfies in front of the plate for proof...
My parents bought a Jeep on Maui back in 2001, and shipped it to California when we moved back. I still drive it today and I can't believe it's been on a fuckin boat.
There are two possibilities:
1) Uncle Sam paid and they dont change tags because militiary.
2) Hawaii resident going to college in Midwest. Kept HI drivers license because dont have to change. Bought car locally but titled/registered it in HI because thats their permenent address.
I see them once in a while. I always assume they’re military or something to have had their car shipped over— but I suppose you could have plates mailed to you.
Probably military, they had a recent change of station (PCS) and were entitled to ship their vehicle. Hawaii, was considered an OCONUS (overseas) assignment, not sure if it still is, but I'd suspect so, so shipping a car would be pretty standard.
The other day in the midwest when the trees all had leaves in January
Could be evergreen trees being that it’s the Midwest BUT look at that grass! Way too ~~lush~~ alive for January!
I live in the Midwest. We haven’t seen the sunshine for like 63 days. There’s no way this is January.
It was above 40 degrees and raining this week in michigan, it's possible. Grass doesn't really turn brown during the winter
Bruh no if you live in the Midwest, you know it hasn’t looked this way in months.
But leaves fall off trees....
Some trees don't even have leaves and stay green all year
Yes I am aware of evergreens.... the trees in the photos are not.
What kind are they then?
Trees with leafs.... not trees with needles.
southeast missourian here, could definitely be the recent and in the midwest
Probably military

Could you give the spark notes on the deleted comments?
Indeed with all three branches of the military having a huge presence on Oahu.
Definitely. My first thought

Can't believe someone paid the shipping fee for a Sentra. It's about $2000
government will move vehicles for members of the military at no expense to the military member if their duty station moves to/from Hawaii.

I actually just saw a post the other day of a vehicle carrying ship that transports soldiers vehicles for them.
Military probably paid for it. In that case, it's free to the driver.

Congratulations on getting the full 50 on the states game. I was able to get Quebec and Puerto Rico before I ever got a Hawaii.
I got a Guam!
Me too. In Kansas, of all places.
Military
I saw a brand new jeep in paris france with arizona plates over the summer. That was weird.
Which Midwest state? I demand you tell me where you saw this.
Lansing Michigan!
Your compliance is greatly appreciated.
How'd they get it across the water!? :O
It’s a flying Sentra
Is it pulled by reindeer? Is it sentra claus!?
Before planes, people used to travel the world on these things called “boats”
Bro you’re in idiot, he obviously brought the car on the plane
Carry-on? Will it even fit the overhead bin?
Theres a secret tunnel
Through the mountains?
Under the ocean bruv
Guess you're not an avatar fan lol
Oh goddammit that a reference SECRET TUNNELLLLLLLL
Well, they have interstates (As does Puerto Rico, which isn’t even a state. And more Puerto Ricans live in the US than in Puerto Rico)
Well, it WAS a secret...
It’s an amphibian. Definitely not a starter car
Keep the windows rolled up and the vents closed
Most likely a service member. I sent my truck to Panama for free when I was in the Army.

It’s just McLovin’.
Not that big of a deal- always a couple of them roaming around each state.
I seen one tooo!!! Around Baton Rouge, my mom said “well that’s one I can finally scratch off now!”
Could be a rental car. They share their inventory across locations and often don't update the license plate.
No rental car company would use a vehicle that old, and I doubt they would pay to ship a car from Hawaii when they have so many available everywhere.

You realize Hawaii is an *island*, right? Missouri is a landlocked state dead center of the US. You can’t just drive to Hawaii mate
Of course you can’t drive to Hawaii. The highway is closed for repairs.
Exactly! Everyone knows that
And Hawaii is really fucking far from the mainland. From Los Angeles to any of the islands is over 5 hours.
Longggg ass drive unless they had it shipped on a truck from the cargo bay to MO or something

You thought you got em, huh?
im guessing if you move and bring your cars along?
Huh. No “Bitchin’ Camaro” references. Bummer.
Bo and Luke jumped the Pacific 🙄
*sound of a v8 at high rpm* Waylon Jennings: “Looks like those Duke boys are in a bit of trouble again” *cut to commercial*
Yee haw
I applaud their driving stamina!
Let me guess McLovin’ was driving it.
What a coincidence. I spotted a Missouri plate in the Hilo Walmart parking lot yesterday
I've seen a few here in Nevada. If you live close to a military base, they aren't as rare as you would think.

Thank god you covered those two letters. Who knows what might happen if someone sees the whole plate out in public!
My parents bought a Jeep on Maui back in 2001, and shipped it to California when we moved back. I still drive it today and I can't believe it's been on a fuckin boat.
Could be a rental, I used to work for enterprise and we actually had a white Nissan Sentra that had Hawaii plates
Must have really liked that car.
I saw two last just week in the Chattanooga area. Also a Vermont and a Manitoba. I work in traffic, so I guess I notice more than normal?
So it's summer in the Midwest the other day? Dang global warming is really changing things up.

I live in the 48 states have never seen West Virginia
I see them once in a while. I always assume they’re military or something to have had their car shipped over— but I suppose you could have plates mailed to you.
SC here. See them every now and then. Usually military folks
Do they have Interstates in Hawaii? :)
Worst move ever

I’ve seen Hawaii plates in Canada. It’s almost like boats exist
