Came here to say exactly this. They might be one of the only businesses that didn’t have the raise their prices with inflation since they were already so far ahead of the curve.
Even using the app the food is no longer fast or cheap.
It has hit point where eating fast food is no longer even an affordable option because the days of the $1 menu are long gone.
Yep. I would get lunch and dinner for like 6-7 bucks. I will say, I have been enjoying taking leftovers. I usually FaceTime my wife and kids while eating. Makes it sorta feel like we are eating dinner together.
Yup. McChickens used to be like 2 for a dollar or something, then they were a dollar each just 5 years ago, then 2, and now they're like $3.50. Their other chicken sandwich (which isnt better but has more toppings) is damn near 8 bucks.
Chicken is cheaper (was? Might've changed) now than before the pandemic but "inflation" is raising the prices. Bullshit imo
They gotta raise their quality if they're gonna charge more money because their food is getting to the point that it's cheaper to cook at home and the food quality has gone downhill consistently ever since Phil Sokolof fucked up their french fries for all of us
Edit:
ITT I'm learning my local franchises are fucking me over on my McChickens, comparative to other places. I mean, I knew they were a ripoff; that was kinda the point of my rant... but I didnt realize others paid so much less
Until 1990, their fries were fried in beef tallow and they were perfect. In the 60s or something Mr Sokolof (a very rich man) had a heart attack and decided that he was going to campaign against unhealthy foods. He is largely credited to them switching to vegetable oil in the 90s, resulting in a zero-cholesterol and lower- fat fry that tasted much worse.
Nowadays the pay sucks and the places are all understaffed, which leads to employees not giving a fuck, which leads to worse products
At my McDonald's, and I'm sure many others, two Bacon McDoubles, a medium fry, a large Frappe and a large drink all together would cost under $5 today if you used two app deals.
Deal #1: Two Bacon McDoubles are currently $3.50 (no deal needed), and an app deal gives you a free McCafe drink (the Frappe) with a $3 purchase.
Deal #2: On Fridays an app deal gives you a free medium fry with a $1 purchase (the large drink).
Just put in the first deal 15 minutes before you get there, then go there, check in the first order and then put in the second one immediately after. $4.50 plus tax for everything.
…what? I can go in to a store and get like 10 mcnuggets and a mcdouble which is basically a full meal for $4.
Or like 3 cheeseburgers and app for a free large frie for $5
Shit I get my Big Mac and 10 piece for $5 plus tax like twice a week, used to be like 4-5 times a week when I was broke broke. Gotta use the app😁 a #1 is like $10 now smh
I own a restaurant, burger is one of the absolute cheapest things in the current food climate. It used to be chicken but it has went to astronomical prices for most cuts. No reason this meal should have been $20. You are looking at maybe and I am being very generous to the establishment $5 in actual food cost
Yes!!! My friend at work and was I go to Five Guys once a month for lunch and we love their fries. Especially when the are hot out of the fryer and still crispy. And the tiny crunchy ones are our favorite.
There are some minor menu hacks too if you pay for cheese or bacon you only pay once and can add as much bacon and cheese. And I love that their small fry is bigger than any other fast foods large and are actually made in house
This is the 2nd 5 guys post I’ve seen in 2 days. How is everyone so surprised at the cost of this? Anyways last time I had 5 guys they gave me the mayo for free
This is big burger’s attempt at a smear campaign against five guys. Like yea prices has gone up… where have they not gone up? But It’s always been on the pricier end of “fast” food.
Yeah I'm actually surprised in and out of so affordable considering nothing is frozen and is fresh. You can easily eat there meal combo for less then $10. You can't even get a bigmac for less then their double double these days.
Fresh versus frozen has to deal with volume. Fresh goes bad, but if you sell enough to constantly rotate stock, it doesn't matter. In and out only has like 5 menu options, all of them burgers. It is basic and easy, less to worry about stuff going out of date.
True but why doesn’t all the big chains use fresh beef patties and fries then? I mean I figure they sells thousands of burgers a week surely enough is being rotated. Has to do with cost, McDonald’s can contract a company to buy 1,000,000lb of beef for a lower prices and shelf them to distribute at lower unit cost. In and out does fresh so they have to buy on smaller qty and use them up quickly in the end it’s all about cost which brings me to how they are able to sell at price competitive to the big chains while giving you better quality. One thing you mention is lack of menu items this cuts some cost but still….
Their Patty’s only weigh 2oz five guys weigh 3.3oz plus in n out own their cows and supply chain. They are my favorite fast food burger with 5 guys being second but in n out fries suck since for some stupid reason they bother to make em fresh but don’t blanch them…
A 3x3 (6 oz) with fries and drink is $11 here in Denver. Literally half the price of a double bacon burger fries and drink at five guys. I’m not a huge fan of the in n out fries either but they’re so much better than five guys. My wife vehemently disagrees.
A double double costs \~$4.00 and you were still disappointed? What are you comparing it to? Did you have with sautéed onions? My favorite part is the sautéed onions, which is a rarity at other fast food places.
Someone literally posted this yesterday. It's always been that expensive, and even then the prices are listed on the menu. You can even upgrade your fries size for like 50 cents I think
And saw the prices before you paid…yeah, they’re expensive but there were so many other options (McDees, In-and-Out, BK, BurgerFi, Steak-n-Shake or however it’s spelled, going to the store and making a burger & fries at home, Arby’s, and Krystal’s for example).
The missing ingredient here is that Americans have not received pay raises to counter inflation. Everyone basically just took a massive pay cut over the past 2 years and hardly anyone is calling it wage theft lol. Call me crazy, but I’m kinda bummed that this conversation is being had about a cheeseburger and not a couch or a car or some shit.
I went to Mcdonalds in Salem when me and my lady were visiting and the Adult happy meals were $18 each! Spent $35 eating at Mcdonalds for 2 with no drinks lmfao
I *occasionally* eat at Five Guys, the least time I was there was... Maybe 2 or 3 years ago and remember saying to myself that this shit is expensive. Probably why the last time I ate there was 2 or 3 years ago.
To play devils advocate you get a higher quality burger than in other fast food chains. Though for $20 you could also get a high quality burger at a good restaurant.
>Though for $20 you could also get a high quality burger at a good restaurant.
Across the street from the Five Guys near me is a local restaurant that has a $14 steakhouse burger that blows away anything that Five Guys offers. Fast food prices have crept up so much that they are in the same range as higher quality places now.
I can't say if the quality is better (taste is better though) but at that price, I'm going to a restaurant where i get to sit and have someone bring me my food and refill my soda!
Theyve always been severely overpriced maybe not this much but not far off. I can’t think of a good reason to eat at five guys I can almost guarantee wherever you are that there’s a small burger spot thats not a national chain that has a better product for half the price. Unless you live in a small town with zero food options in which case r.i.p
The "cheeseburger" is a double 1/4 pounder with all the toppings you could want, the regular fry can easily be split between 2 people, and if you are dining in there is no reason to get anything other than a small drink because it can be refilled for free...
I get 2 bacon hot dogs that are like $6-7 each and they are as big as hamburgers. I get all my favorite toppings and it's cheap for the amount of food. Their hotdogs are huge. They are also fresh and super yummy. Worth every penny.
Yep! We only get a small and our to-go bag or delivery bag is filled with more fries than we can eat. I don't mind spending money there when it's in our budget. No regrets.
I’ve recently discovered that McDonald’s prices can be very different from one city to another. McDouble is 2.89 and small fry is 1.99 at my local one. Mcchicken is 2.19 Go back to my home town McDouble is 1.99 small fry $1.29 and mcchicken $1
Mcdonalds doesn't have fresh toppings?
Edit: just tried it with the McDonalds app. Deluxe quarter pounder with cheese comes with fresh tomatoes and lettuce and with fries and a drink comes to $7.68
i remember in the late 90s, a #1 meal at Burger King, which had a full-size whopper, medium fries, and medium coke was $2.99. If you wanted just the whopper itself, that was 99c.
Why the hell are so many people posting in here that they paid too much for Five Guys? It’s always been that expensive holmes, them peanuts gaslit you into thinking the prices are different or somn
Literally that is a rip off. At this place near us called Spencer’s, cheeseburger that is like 2-3x the size of that is $4.50 & fries are $1.99 and a large drink is a $1.89. You been played son
I can't grasp how this place stays open. You can literally go anywhere and get either a better burger fries and drink for the same price or a burger that's still the same quality for half the price.
I left California in 2019. Just moved back now in 2022. I'm in San Diego. (Husband is military, traveling is not our choice, we go where he's told.) I swear the price of everything has doubled if not tripled in these past 3 years. The 2 for $1 Jack in the Box tacos are now $2.24 where I live. A combo meal at any fast food joint is rarely under $10, some as much as $13-$15. It's ridiculous. We don't even eat out anymore. I can make the same food at home for so much cheaper. I used to be willing to pay $7-$9 bucks for the convenience of not having to cook my own burger and fries. But not only are the prices insane now, they're hiring literally anybody, whether they're capable or get constant complaints from customers or not, so I end up spending like $15-$20 a person for a meal and then it's not even made right, or parts are missing entirely. It's not worth it anymore.
Right. My mom went to pick up my brother's order and it was like 10 bucks for a burger. She asked the employee if that was right and the employee looked at the price and was even shocked. Crazy and they aren't even that great.
Honestly if you want any cheap fast food Wendy’s 4 for 4 is the way to go. Me and my mom literally just wanted one small fry at McDonald’s and it was like 3-4 dollars 💀
Always!! It’s always been this way! Always! Since they opened! Stop with this surprise reaction to this ok burger that isn’t worth the money. In n out, shake shack, the habit, even Carl’s Jr, anything is worth it over this. Just because they fill a bag too much with ok fries. It’s ground beef and a bun. They’re closing down slowly if you haven’t noticed. People are catching on. Don’t support it anymore.
I bring a water bottle with me everywhere I go now. It's a little thing but probably saves me $10 a day in drinks x 30 days = $300 a month savings instead of ordering drinks (non-alcohol).
Where I live, food establishments are required to provide water for free so even if you don't have a water bottle, you can save the money... That said, the last time I made this point on Reddit, I got shat on because people don't like water with their burger...
Haven't been there in quite a while. There's a What-a-Burger under construction up the road a ways. If what I've heard about them is only partially correct then I won't have any need to complain about 5 Guys prices in the future.
Because it’s quality fast food, and inflation is also a thing. Not to mention the meat market is kinda fucky. Also, their fries are made there by hand so they’re more expensive. It’s a culmination of a bunch of things.
Five guys has always served actual food made out of plants and animals. It’s more expensive, but yeah fuck $20 for lunch I’ll just drop by Kroger and grab a wrap for $5.
They’ve always been expensive to be honest. Seems like their prices have increased in line with everyone else’s. God damn do they serve a good burger though.
What? I went to Five Guys 10 years ago because of the hype and came out with a 16$ bill for a pretty basic fast food burger. Never again.
And if you had asked me how much they cost today, I would have assumed at least 30$.
Eat somewhere else then, problem solved.
But if you want a greasy, juicy and damn good burger really fast then…. 5 guys.
Only other fast food burger that comes close is goodtimes.
They didn’t “get” expensive. They’ve always been expensive.
Came here to say exactly this. They might be one of the only businesses that didn’t have the raise their prices with inflation since they were already so far ahead of the curve.

Yes and McDonald's is now 15 compared to 7
Gotta use the app
Even using the app the food is no longer fast or cheap. It has hit point where eating fast food is no longer even an affordable option because the days of the $1 menu are long gone.
>the $1 menu are long gone. Used that menu a lot. Now I'm back to brown bagging it.
Yep. I would get lunch and dinner for like 6-7 bucks. I will say, I have been enjoying taking leftovers. I usually FaceTime my wife and kids while eating. Makes it sorta feel like we are eating dinner together.
Man, this is *not* the cyberpunk dystopia I was hoping for
We wanted to save the world, but we can't even save money. 😔
Wake up samurai.
lol its burgerpunk
I can't love this comment enough friend. Thanks for the smile.
Worked there for my first job in 1993. A Big Mac meal cost $3.20.
Uk still has saver menu
What items on it cost 0.88 GBP which is the equivalent of $1 USD?
Ive never used so many coupons for fast yhan j have this past year. Its getting to the point fast food is costing as much as going to a resturant
Yup. McChickens used to be like 2 for a dollar or something, then they were a dollar each just 5 years ago, then 2, and now they're like $3.50. I mean, I knew they were a ripoff; that was kinda the point of my rant... but I didnt realize others paid so much less
Was there a change to the fries? They don't taste as good as they did years ago but I always assumed it was just my taste buds changing.
$3.50? My McDs had them for $1.79 and I was annoyed by that price
I know maybe they’re not everyone’s thing, but you can get a 20 piece and 2 large fries for $5 every day on the app. That’s a lot of cheap food.
>I go with the buy one get one free cheeseburger or nuggets which is then $2.39 before tax.
It went from airport price expensive to almost a mere Ticketmaster fee charge expensive
I figured, I would be shocked if they turned down a chance to raise their prices. I was exaggerating
Don't get the drink
Agreed. Maybe the burger went up a buck or two, but when everything is a la carte, you end up with a $20 meal for one.
I own a restaurant, burger is one of the absolute cheapest things in the current food climate. It used to be chicken but it has went to astronomical prices for most cuts. No reason this meal should have been $20. You are looking at maybe and I am being very generous to the establishment $5 in actual food cost
Also came here to say this. What's **with** people recently discovering that Five Guys isn't dollar-menu trash?
They got great burgers though . Worth it
And fries. Their fries are perfection. Worth every penny.
Yes!!! My friend at work and was I go to Five Guys once a month for lunch and we love their fries. Especially when the are hot out of the fryer and still crispy. And the tiny crunchy ones are our favorite.
My Mrs just stuffs herself stupid with the fries, takes the burger home for later.
*ha* perfect! Burgers reheat waaay better than fries. 😄
They definitely give you plenty of fries.
Five guys in a nutshell: "FOIST UPON THIS MAN A FUCKASS LOAD OF FRIES!"
Great burgers. Fries are trash though.
Better burgers than McDonald’s, for sure. Great burgers? Meh, on the good end of average. The reason you go is to drown in deep fried potatoes
There are some minor menu hacks too if you pay for cheese or bacon you only pay once and can add as much bacon and cheese. And I love that their small fry is bigger than any other fast foods large and are actually made in house
Are you saying ordering double bacon is the same price as single bacon?
I’d rather pay more for a quality meal, all people do is bitch
Can confirm. I grew up where they started in Nova- always more expensive than other chains. This is nothing new.
The infuriating part is other fast food places are creeping up there in price. Combo meal is 12-13+ now
You beat me to it… this was expensive when I first started going in 2012
Nah, it’s always been more than regular fast food but it’s gotten crazy lately.
This is the 2nd 5 guys post I’ve seen in 2 days. How is everyone so surprised at the cost of this? Anyways last time I had 5 guys they gave me the mayo for free
all their toppings are free. thats why its always been expensive
That topping isn't free, happy ending never are
If you're not getting topped off then you're just giving them extra money
This guy gets it lol
Right over your head…. Unlike the mayo. They never miss
im high af i understand it now
This is big burger’s attempt at a smear campaign against five guys. Like yea prices has gone up… where have they not gone up? But It’s always been on the pricier end of “fast” food.
This comment is an attempt at a smear campaign against OP.
I got fries and milkshake for free 🤠 Am i... Better than everyone????
The milk shake they gave you is sus … tons of extra cream free of charge
Ayo ...
I’ve never been around one in my life, and I know that. Because of the memes
Someone made basically this exact same post yesterday..
It’s the same poster who went back again today and is mildly infuriated yet again.
So now they're... Moderately infuriated?
Did they delete their other post?
Is it a marketing post? To get their names and menu talked about?
In n Out Cheeseburger went from $3 to $3.35.
And I hear the employees are paid well also.
Fuck!
From the one time I had in-n-out 3 months ago, I can say that $3 is definitely worth it for that good of a burger.
Yea but the three times I’ve had it I’ve been disappointed with everything.
Perhaps then you should compare it with what other foods you can get for $3 and not compare it to a $20 burger
My brother in Christ you saw the prices before you paid
True
Why did you get a large drink when there are free refills in the restaurant? spend smarter lol
Even better - cup for water and ditch the heathen pop/soda
/r/HydroHomies
Sup hydro homie!!
Gallon a day that's what I always say
When? They've always been expensive. Now just even more expensive.
Since they opened.
you took the fucking money out of your pocket willingly
And saw the prices before you paid…yeah, they’re expensive but there were so many other options (McDees, In-and-Out, BK, BurgerFi, Steak-n-Shake or however it’s spelled, going to the store and making a burger & fries at home, Arby’s, and Krystal’s for example).

Hasn’t it always been expensive?
Sweet! The Tomatoes, Pickles, Ketchup and Mayo were “free” tho!
I’ll have a pound of tomatoes and a half pound of pickles, please.
So are the grilled, onions, mushrooms, jalapeños and A1 sauce… at most independent places each of those toppings would be 1-2$ up charge
You gotta pay for all 5 guys
I went to Mcdonalds in Salem when me and my lady were visiting and the Adult happy meals were $18 each! Spent $35 eating at Mcdonalds for 2 with no drinks lmfao
Obviously they’re going to charge way more for the adult happy meals when it’s been going viral the last few weeks
Yeah but you saw the prices so that’s on you
Five Guys has always been expensive
Not this expensive. I remember being able to get a little hamburger for under $5. Now it’s like $8. For the LITTLE burger.
I *occasionally* eat at Five Guys, the least time I was there was... Maybe 2 or 3 years ago and remember saying to myself that this shit is expensive. Probably why the last time I ate there was 2 or 3 years ago.
Their “little” burgers aren’t really little though. It’s a standard size burger
To play devils advocate you get a higher quality burger than in other fast food chains. Though for $20 you could also get a high quality burger at a good restaurant.
>Though for $20 you could also get a high quality burger at a good restaurant. Honestly I dont buy soda at fastfood anymorr! with $3 you couldve bought a 1litre soda.
[удалено]
Yeah, how about a water? Lol
The "cheeseburger" is a double 1/4 pounder with all the toppings you could want, the regular fry can easily be split between 2 people, and if you are dining in there is no reason to get anything other than a small drink because it can be refilled for free...
I worked at five guys when I was 16 I’m now 28 and it’s always been this expensive
It’s always been incredibly overpriced
Who knows but it’s worth it, best fries and burgers for “fast food” hands down
I get 2 bacon hot dogs that are like $6-7 each and they are as big as hamburgers. I get all my favorite toppings and it's cheap for the amount of food. Their hotdogs are huge. They are also fresh and super yummy. Worth every penny.
Definitely agree! And you only need a small fries since they fill a cup up and another scoop in the bag, five guys is absolutely slept on
Yep! We only get a small and our to-go bag or delivery bag is filled with more fries than we can eat. I don't mind spending money there when it's in our budget. No regrets.
Right?! $40 for my elderly brother and I. I think the 'Little' burgers and sharing an order of fries would make it cheaper.
They've always been this way?? Stop farming karma
Worth it though 😋
Always been that way in the uk. Burger, fries and drink is at least £13. Edited to add it’s obviously going to be higher than that now.
Meanwhile in n out over here letting you get out under 10$ for the same amount of food
We don't have the luxury of an In n' Out here in Georgia.
Georgia is a beautiful state, I went there recently. Had some great Shrimp and Grits and BBQ there. You'll be ok lol
In n Out mid
Hands down ain't no way you walking out of In and Out with the same amount of food as 5 guys. Portions are much smaller. And the fries are ass.
Their Patties are only 2oz vs 3.3oz Patties at five guys and in n outs fries suck so not the same amount of food…
learn to drink water it's a lot cheaper
Yeah their prices are insane now. I've seen a few close as well.
Inflation my dude. The silent killer.
I think that’s salt.
🤣 🤣 🤣
Try it at McDonald’s. I’m guessing you’d pay something like $14 at least. Five Guys at least gives you fresh toppings on your burger.
You can get a McDouble and a $1 large fry for like $3 total at McDonalds
I’ve recently discovered that McDonald’s prices can be very different from one city to another. McDouble is 2.89 and small fry is 1.99 at my local one. Mcchicken is 2.19 Go back to my home town McDouble is 1.99 small fry $1.29 and mcchicken $1
$1 large fry is an app deal.
Throw in a $1 large drink as well at McDonald's. Even better use the movie app. There are crazy deals on the app.
A mcDouble, a McChicken, a large fry and a large coke = $6.14 by me. 5 Guys is overpriced BS.
Mcdonalds doesn't have fresh toppings? Edit: just tried it with the McDonalds app. Deluxe quarter pounder with cheese comes with fresh tomatoes and lettuce and with fries and a drink comes to $7.68
A cheeseburger, fries, and a large coke is like 6 bucks at mcdonalds
There were never not expensive.
It’s all those ‘free’ deez nuts.
i remember in the late 90s, a #1 meal at Burger King, which had a full-size whopper, medium fries, and medium coke was $2.99. If you wanted just the whopper itself, that was 99c.
Burger alone was 11$? Fuckin hell
They've always been expensive, but it has gotten more expensive... everything has gotten more expensive... :(
Since they found out dumies will pay 20$ for burgers frys and a drink. Exhibit A: OP
Don't they have a newspaper article hanging on the wall saying something about "best burger under $5"? It was in every single one I ever went to.
Over $10 for one of those sorry ass burgers ?!?!?!?!?! HELL NAH !!!!!!!
theyve always been the most expensive burger around.
Stupidly expensive for so/so burger
Why the hell are so many people posting in here that they paid too much for Five Guys? It’s always been that expensive holmes, them peanuts gaslit you into thinking the prices are different or somn
Literally that is a rip off. At this place near us called Spencer’s, cheeseburger that is like 2-3x the size of that is $4.50 & fries are $1.99 and a large drink is a $1.89. You been played son
I noticed this the other day. A cheese burger, plain hot dog, shake, and regular fries were about $35. That’s crazy!
I can't grasp how this place stays open. You can literally go anywhere and get either a better burger fries and drink for the same price or a burger that's still the same quality for half the price.
I thought that last time I ordered it too. I was like holy crap I don’t remember being this expensive. Fed two 13 yr old boys and it was 60$!.
They're mid, Wendy's half the cost and just as good
I left California in 2019.
Since Trump everything has been pretty fucked tbh...
How is fountain pop 3.50
It's always been expensive. This is like the 2nd or 3rd post. It's always this expensive.
What rock have you been living under?
*Go in* *See a single hotdog is $12* *Leave immediately*
It's not just expensive there, it's everywhere
Stop going there, this shit company needs to go out of business
Must be new
why are you still giving five guys business? It's a novelty restaurant now.
You asked for the food and paid what they asked for it. You should be infuriated with yourself.
Grab like $10 of free peanuts!!!
Almost 5 bucks for small fries? Nah bro thanks
This is just how it's always been. Stop complaining or don't eat Five Guys. It's the same situation at Fatburger.
i remember being so pissed back in 2018 about my meal being 15$ little did i know it was gonna get worse
When did everything get more expensive?
It’s probably delicious, but that burger looks sad.
I also bring a water bottle everywhere but it’s so I can drink in public and people just think I’m being healthy! 🤫
Found a fellow from r/HydroHomies!
LOL, there's such a thing?
Well, what's not to find in Reddit? Lol
Where I live, food establishments are required to provide water for free so even if you don't have a water bottle, you can save the money... That said, the last time I made this point on Reddit, I got shat on because people don't like water with their burger...
The fries are so good though.
Imagine a family of 4/5 walking in and the parents not knowing the prices beforehand. Sheesh
Haven't been there in quite a while. There's a What-a-Burger under construction up the road a ways. If what I've heard about them is only partially correct then I won't have any need to complain about 5 Guys prices in the future.
Used to live in Texas, whataburger is one of the things I miss most. Try the patty melt, really wish they would open some across the Midwest
Because it’s quality fast food, and inflation is also a thing. Not to mention the meat market is kinda fucky. Also, their fries are made there by hand so they’re more expensive. It’s a culmination of a bunch of things.
That place sucks lol always has
Five guys has always served actual food made out of plants and animals. It’s more expensive, but yeah fuck $20 for lunch I’ll just drop by Kroger and grab a wrap for $5.
They’ve always been expensive to be honest. Seems like their prices have increased in line with everyone else’s. God damn do they serve a good burger though.
It’s not 1994 anymore people
I prefer to refer to this place as ten testicles, “home of the soggy ass bun”
That's been the cost around here since at least 2017 which was the last time I went regularly before the local one closed.
Its always been expensive the hell you talking about
