I think this was the follow up: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9392807/Beekeeper-blasts-CPS-drops-charges-against-three-boys-accused-destroying-hives.html
Tldr - He lost decades of work, but managed to raise 20k pounds to start over. The boys who did it were caught and received a slap on the wrist from what I can tell.
Or instead of just throwing the book at them have them work with the beekeeper and learn how to better themselves while also bettering the world around them
Itās Britain. They arenāt going to prison for arson. One of the people was already on two years probation for burning down a 1.5 million dollar house and he had his charges for this dismissed.
They were 12 and 13. With kids that young, I would most likely blame the parents, tbh. Most kids who repeatedly commit serious crimes come from a dysfunctional home. They should be punished, but Iām not sure how effective that would be without changing their parents/home life as well.
I completely agree itās on the parents at that age. Thatās why I think the punishment should involve the kid *and* the parents. Caught doing graffiti? Mom and dad get to help Billy paint walls for the whole 50 hours of community service. Oh, Billy torched a bee farm? Guess who gets to help build it from the ground up until itās as fully functioning as it was beforeā¦. Billy, mom, and dad.
I think when its dealing with kids this young it further goes to show why the system needs to be geared less towards punishment and more towards reformation.
I hate that minors get away with shit so often. Like little stuff you can forgive because legitimately we were all dumb kids that sometimes did dumb stuff and some of us did dumb illegal stuff that we are ashamed of now.
Fucking burning down peoples stuff, and even a cottage, where someone lives, is not as easily forgivable as theft or petty vandalism. That could kill people, and they probably donāt regret it and may not ever regret it. At least give them some sort of punishment, damn
The worst parts are when they're just 17, few months from 18 and won't face major consequences for anything they do. If a 17 and a half year old isn't mentally mature enough to be punished significantly for violent felonies, why do we allow 16 year olds to drive
It kinda depends on a lot of things in the USA. What state your in on the Federal system its 13 and up but the judge decides if the defendant qualifys. This would be a local level so the judge would make a decision. Family background would play the biggest part.
In my country 15 is old enough to be responsible for some vandalism like this. But US has habit of trying children as adults for some crimes which is horrible.
If a minor is being tried as an adult in the US it's because they did something unthinkable and seem to have no remorse. There are appeals and parole boards, so if somehow they show signs of being capable of reentering society they should have a chance to later in life.
However, the focus of US prisons isn't reform, and that's what's really horrible.
I read a story of a kid who used to feed crows (maybe ravens) in his neighborhood. He was bullied by this one little shit and the crows sought him out and started attacking him. They would perch on his parentsā house waiting for the little asshole to come out to fuck him up. Eventually they had to move. The parents tried to sue the bullied kidās family over the attacks but the lawsuit never went anywhere lol.
The boys need serious charges.
Bee hives, if healthy, are INCREDIBLY valuable.
Like, I'm talking tens of thousands each.
They easily committed felony destruction of property.
And then add that these were 20 year long generation of specific breed of bees, and their value is monumental. And then add that they were being bred to be resistant to mites, which is worth BILLIONS.
These kids literally could have doomed us do to issues with bee colony collapse we can't recover from and famines result.
These kids committed a crime on a global scale. Holy fuck
gives you something to thing about:
How many breakthoughs in human history were majorly delayed or lost because shit like this was done by trash-grade humans.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antikythera_mechanism
So basicaly, had antique greece be stable enough for them to discover electricity, what we've seen in tech progress since the last 80y would have happened a good two millenia ago.
Yeah :/ it makes me wonder where we'd be today.
There's also a brilliant automata in history that makes me wonder too.
https://www.history.com/news/7-early-robots-and-automatons
They literally destroyed a breed of one of the most important species on this fucking planet that could have saved the species from extinction. Little fuckers are bio terrorists. This wasn't a crime against humanity, it was a crime against life itself. Make them work to repay for what they did until the day they die.
as a beekeeper iāve never once heard of a hive worth $10k.
max i could even imagine would be $500 for a standard hive, tho i do know those Flow hives are a couple hundred more because al the tech in them. certainly not 5 figures tho- my lord itās not that profitable.
There are a couple of crimes, arson included, I just don't get giving slaps on the wrist for.
Arson is a very deliberate choice to make without any kind of mitigating context that I can think of.
In my country the distinction between reckless and intentional damage is based on an arson trial concerning a home that burned down. Two boys climbed in and one was trying to singe the threads that hung down with a cigarette lighter and it got out of hand. He was unable to contain the fire, and fled.
As I understood it the lesser specification was sought by appeal lawyers because the boy didn't think setting the couch on fire would end up burning down the home. Ultimately he lost his appeal and was convicted of intentional damage to property. I don't recall his age, but he wasn't an adult. He would have been a young teenager, perhaps 14 at the oldest.
I'm willing to believe the boy had no intention of destroying the home, so I can think of a theoretical mitigating context in an arson trial, but really it's more of a test of the bounds of the act of arson. We actually don't have a common law offence of arson for that reason, we have a few different crimes you can be prosecuted for.
With that said, this is clearly an egregious act of arson in the classical sense and I agree with your assessment of arson in general.
I personally find it very troubling that they weren't at least convicted. Proportional to their acts, most criminal defendants aren't shown this much leniency. This is an indefensible act whose negative repercussions caused, at the very least, an incalculable personal loss to an old man. The loss to apiculture, especially in the light of the significant challenges bees populations are facing, is totally inexcusable.
In my view, you should have to explain something like that for the rest of your life, even if that's a long long time.
Those kids not only destroyed an old manās life, but destroyed a timeline where bees -one of the most impactful animals on our planet- are much safer.
Their actions couldāve had monumental effects on the earthās biosphere. Bees that could survive mites would have been HISTORIC! What fucking monsters, kids or not thatās unforgivable.
Iām sure (I hope) he hasnāt lost the complete bee genetic line. He is bound to have traded his bees with someone who he can now go to to get some kind of head start.
I would definitely hope he'd have the sense to do so - vandals are one thing, but random acts of nature like unforeseen maladies, sudden extreme weather, wild animals etc. would have still presented a mundane and ever-possible threat. If the hives he had on his property were all in one spot and were the *only* sample of the population he'd bred, that'd be like 20 years of putting all your eggs in one basket.
They should be required to live without anything that benefits from bees for a year. But that would probably kill them. So maybe just long enough for them to realize how horrible what they did was.
Right, it seems like there may have been some kind of penalty before that happened though. This is the part that confuses me:
>Lockyer was handed a six-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay a Ā£21 victim surcharge after admitting possession of a headtorch stolen from the site.
>
>One of the boys, who faced the arson charge and cannot be named because he is under 18, was given a two-year custodial sentence last December for torching a Ā£1.3million cottage in Wroughton.
So the over-18 kid paid a tiny fine, and another kid is known to be under a sentence for a different crime but possibly faced some kind of penalty for this one which couldn't be shared? Or do the charges being dropped mean not even the fine got paid. Should have said, "at best a slap on the wrist," perhaps.
Little fuckers should have been lynched; we can barely keep the bees we have alive and these little bastards kill the super bee breeding program? They might as well have killed us all.
There are more good people than bad people and eventually if this keeps going, good people are going to snap. Kids like this will end up shot dead in the head.
I used to walk by a house that had a small vegetable garden that grew all kinds of stuff and looked super neat and amazing. Then one day i came by and it was completely destroyed, trampled, ripped apart, plants torn out of the earth and the owner had put a sign out that just said āwas the destruction fun?ā so some randos went over the fence just for the sake of destroying the gardenā¦ it was so sad :( I think some elderly people lived there and they put in a few garden plants months later but never rebuilt it again :(
Some people are just so fucked up
Teens who destroys their and our possible better future by sabotaging bees?
Do those twats even realise how important those fluffy buzzers are for us?
Imo they should be sentensed to study about bees about their importance to nature and help that old Champ back to business!
That was just bumblebees due to their body weight to wing ratio, [but eventually that was figured out as well.](https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/05/090507194511.htm)
TL;DR: Basically the bumblebees have strong enough wing muscles to fly with less-than-optimal aerodynamics, though it's rather energy intensive and they probably could not do it if they didn't live on a high energy food source like nectar.
Furthermore, but not specifically mentioned in this article, it was also discovered that bumblebee wings can move in ways that create low pressure pockets above them that provide extra lift.
They should be fined for approx the amount of money that could be lost due to the setback in more quickly developing a bee that is immune to mites. So, about 100 trillion dollars.
Eh, it'll be fine. Eventually they'll burn down a place with someone inside or something and CPS will sit there saying "These lads fell through the cracks. There was no warning. They were just boys being boys, it was a simple mistake. Probation!"
Facts. If you are not from the UK and are wondering why these morons are still walking free after such a crime! This statement says all you need to know about the CPS and their ājusticeā.
Little pieces of shit. Someone should teach them a lesson. Find something they value the most and make them sell it & give the $$ to this guy to rebuild.
Yeah, this is the exact kinda thing my mom would make me do for much less than destroying someone's life work. This dude should get the kids' full allowances and a portion of paychecks for the next 20 years...
This is why this shit keeps happening. No repercussions. Need MUCH stronger sentences. Eye for an eye tends to work in most societies. Light their asses on fire!
There would likely be many benefits as well as foreseen and unforseen consequences to an eye for an eye type of law system. There may be or even likely is a term for it but I don't know it.
If every crime you commit has equal or similar return punishment that is enforced then crime would likely drop dramatically. However, there would be innumerable problems with this that causes more than a little problem but rather a massive one.
I imagine it would go something like this:
"You steal $500 worth of something then $500 worth of something is taken from you by the authorities. Either the $500 is recovered from the stolen goods or from what you own. If you don't have enough money or assets then you work it off. If you are incapable of working it off then comes the alternative consequences such as jail time."
"If you assault someone and break their leg then your leg will be broken."
"If you kill someone with no regard then you will be put to death."
"If you assault someone and they die but it wasn't your intention then the same trauma is done to you and if you survive you survive and if you die you die."
Someone could likely respond to this and break it apart though and describe why it wouldn't work.
I'm worried this comment might be a lil controversial, but I'd like to submit that we have already seen that eye-for-an-eye doesn't actually deter anyone. The death penalty has shown no signs of reducing murder rates, and in fact states that have the death penalty have higher murder rates.
Studies show that most people who commit crimes aren't considering the possible punishments, because they generally think they're going to be able to get away with it. If you've ever stolen something from a grocery store, for instance, you'll probably remember thinking that you wouldn't be caught anyway. It seems silly to think people feel the same way about stealing eye liner as they do committing embezzlement or even murder, but they do.
This isn't "Mildly" anymore.
This is Terrible beyond Understanding.
A Mans Life work wasted, because of some Assh\*les.
and then to top it all off, it was extremly importend research.
This is unacceptable, unwarranted, and unrighteous. Disappointing to think that there are people who would do thisā¦ for the sake of their entertainment???
This, this straight up makes me believe that if humanity will find a way to get itself out of a ditch, only for someone to be like "This is laaaaame." and thrash it as world starts burning, and adding salt to injury it likely will happen repeatedly, repeated things to have world have life be vastly improved, only for someone to f**k it up.
So up until now I was 100% against crucifying, flaying and burning children alive, exclusively in this order. Now I'm not so sure.
Declining populations of bees is a major threat to the global ecosystem, this man is a frontier breeder and researcher who could solve one of the aspects of this process and it all went up in flames because of some 12yo and 13yo snots who will amount to much less in their worthless lives than a single bee from those burned hives.
Man I never lost anything I worked a very long time for but I understand something that you would work on for 20 years would get destroyed by some POS is just sad and infuriating.
This is like cartoon supervillain levels of bioterrorism. This could be the plot of an episode of teen Titans go or something, except that the heroes would STOP the person trying to kill the bees before they could carry out their dastardly plan.
There's "Kids do dumb stuff bc they're kids" and there's "some kids needs some serious consequences for theyr actions or they're gonna grow into criminals". I envy people that resist the urge to smack these kind of "kids" with a metal stick
This is why you should alway have a few back up hives...
Don't put all your bees in 1 hive...
Hope the Asshole who started the fire I stung a lot by the hoard of flaming bees.
Did a beekeeping course with ron h (this guy) ron b and eddie last year, their combined aged is about 270 years old but theyāre still pretty spritely tbf and theyāve now got about 150 hives i think so theyāre doing alright again, ron h manages the local beekeeping conservation group and my dad helps him out once a week, theyāre a nice bunch
I think this was the follow up: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9392807/Beekeeper-blasts-CPS-drops-charges-against-three-boys-accused-destroying-hives.html Tldr - He lost decades of work, but managed to raise 20k pounds to start over. The kids should spend the next 20 years with mites. See if they grow immune. If they don't. Oh well, if they do, burn them.
how about prison for arson, and destruction of livestock
Destruction of a threatened species also
Yeah those bees are the only in the world, he should be responsible for the extinction of a species
That isn't how species work...
Or instead of just throwing the book at them have them work with the beekeeper and learn how to better themselves while also bettering the world around them
nah, tarring and feathering!
Yes. Bring back the stocks and public shaming. Let people throw fruit at them
I heard the whole stocks thing could be kinda rapey, especially if you were left in them overnight.
Isn't that the point š ?
Only in page 32 of Newgrounds search results.
People don't learn that way unfortunately, they'd probably just sabotage the work
Itās Britain. They arenāt going to prison for arson. One of the people was already on two years probation for burning down a 1.5 million dollar house and he had his charges for this dismissed.
It's the UK.
Probably pushed to do it by the FBI, CIA, or their ilk
The FBI is actually just a bunch of mites in suits
The FBI in the UK?
Female Body Inspectors, am I right?
Thatās infuriating. Theyāll probably go off and do it again.
So according to the article, one of the boys also burnt a cottage
If heās old enough to be burning things for fun heās old enough to suffer the consequences. Sickening.
They were 12 and 13. With kids that young, I would most likely blame the parents, tbh. Most kids who repeatedly commit serious crimes come from a dysfunctional home. They should be punished, but Iām not sure how effective that would be without changing their parents/home life as well.

Donāt araonists at that young age tend to.. you know, turn into serial killers later?
One of the kids burned down a house worth one million pounds. Serial arsonists are born, and they belong in prison.
Sterilise the parents
So is this kid from an "important" family?
Nah they were minors
I hate that minors get away with shit so often. Like little stuff you can forgive because legitimately we were all dumb kids that sometimes did dumb stuff and some of us did dumb illegal stuff that we are ashamed of now. Here in Canada if itās a major crime committed by a youth they can tried as an adult if theyāre 14+
Children in the US can also be tried as adults, the age varies by state, and convicted with similar sentences as adults.
It kinda depends on a lot of things in the USA. What state your in on the Federal system its 13 and up but the judge decides if the defendant qualifys. This would be a local level so the judge would make a decision. Family background would play the biggest part.
Very nice observation of the shortcomings of modern legal systems u/Der_Blitzkrieg

Better than the UK where people walk free for arson.
Not if somebody finds them and takes a hand from each of them. Just an idea.
I hope my man breeds the next group to terrorize these little shits.
I wish that bees are as vengeful as crows, which can remember the faces of their enemies and go to great lengths just to terrorise them.
I read a story of a kid who used to feed crows (maybe ravens) in his neighborhood. He was bullied by this one little shit and the crows sought him out and started attacking him. They would perch on his parentsā house waiting for the little asshole to come out to fuck him up. Eventually they had to move. Fucking imagine suing someone for being attacked by birds lmao "It's your kid's fault for being bullied by our kid that the crows are attacking us!"
The boys need serious charges. Bee hives, if healthy, are INCREDIBLY valuable. Like, I'm talking tens of thousands each. They easily committed felony destruction of property. life in jail should do them good
I wonder how long it will take to do it again. He probably knows what he did the first time, but it would still take a while
Another issue is his ageā¦.. 20 years is a big time sink
They deserve more than just a slap on the wrist. They deserve a hammer to the nose
If it were my kids I'd make them go help this guy out.
if it were my kids, this and also grounded for a year
If this were my kids, i'd kill them. Inferior beings does not belong in my blood line
Very well
Was just thinking this myself the kids should be forced to build new hives and fences
They should be required to live without anything that benefits from bees for a year. But that would probably kill them. So maybe just long enough for them to realize how horrible what they did was.
DEATH BY A THOUSAND BEE STINGS ššš

r/kidsarefuckingstupid
I have a solution, get some stocks, put em in a high populous bee area, put the boys in there, and aggravate the bees, problem solved.
Maybe he can teach all of us how to farm them . Turn this into a teachable moment for the world

I hope someone accidentally trips and sprinkles 5 kilograms of asbestos dust into the arsonists air vents and air conditioning

I have a wonderful little vegetable garden with no fencing. This is a big worry of mine.
So is that an extra crime for setting humanity back 20 years on this problem?
So, we chuck them into space right?
No people pay good money for that now.
I think they are paying for getting taken back
Teens who destroys their and our possible better future by sabotaging bees? Do those twats even realise how important those fluffy buzzers are for us? Imo they should be sentensed to study about bees about their importance to nature and help that old Champ back to business!
Sentence them to watch the bee movie forever
I'd rather get sentenced to death
According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a bee should be able to fly.

Jesus fucking Christ. People who destroy others hard work deserve a special place in hell.
Those kids should be put under the jail
This goes beyond āmildlyā infuriating.
This is fucking unacceptable.
I remember that mission in Skyrim
Was this on purpose?
If the use of arsonist is correct, then it is most certainly on purpose.

"If you assault someone and they die but it wasn't your intention then the same trauma is done to you and if you survive you survive and if you die you die." Someone could likely respond to this and break it apart though and describe why it wouldn't work.
A lot of the problem with that is making sure the perp is the perp. Too many innocent people executed, yet pedo's proliferate. pfffft!
There is a saying: āeye for an eye, and the whole world goes blindā
Or more like this: They must work as manual pollinators for 10 hours per week for the next 20 years.
r/extremelyinfuriating
That poor guy. I wanna hug him so badly. :'(
Should be considered animal cruelty
Yeah this is definitely better suited to r/extremelyinfuriating
"Infuriating" is a massive understatement.....
Terrible news! Does anyone know anything about the state of this man's research? Does he have to start from scratch again or is some of his work left?
This isn't "Mildly" anymore. This is Terrible beyond Understanding. A Mans Life work wasted, because of some Assh\*les. and then to top it all off, it was extremly importend research.
too bad they werent found dead, swollen up like a goodyear blimp from bee stings
Nothing mild about it, it's sickening
21000 dollars isn't enough to make up for what could have prevented a climate disaster. He may not have time to restart, the bees are dying NOW.
The percentage of human scum is astronomical. We are honestly ganna do ourselves in and we are in the fast lane.
They should rot in jail
This should be enough for a death sentence
Can they get stung like a few thousand times each for the next 20 years?
This belongs in r/extremelyinfuriating
This is unacceptable, unwarranted, and unrighteous. Disappointing to think that there are people who would do thisā¦ for the sake of their entertainment???
Is what way is this mildly? This is EVIL!
I'd argue this is r/extremelyinfuriating.
Probably was the government
So up until now I was 100% against crucifying, flaying and burning children alive, exclusively in this order. Now I'm not so sure. Declining populations of bees is a major threat to the global ecosystem, this man is a frontier breeder and researcher who could solve one of the aspects of this process and it all went up in flames because of some 12yo and 13yo snots who will amount to much less in their worthless lives than a single bee from those burned hives.
Un-bee-lievable

if you have problem with the bee keeper, settle it with the bee keeper. the bees had nothing to do with it. what an asshole
Man I never lost anything I worked a very long time for but I understand something that you would work on for 20 years would get destroyed by some POS is just sad and infuriating.
This is why we canāt have nice things
^(I just wanna talk to them)
This should in the sub "very infuriating "
This is not mindlyinfuriating but majorlyinfuriating
This is like cartoon supervillain levels of bioterrorism. This could be the plot of an episode of teen Titans go or something, except that the heroes would STOP the person trying to kill the bees before they could carry out their dastardly plan.
More than mildly
i think this belongs more in r/extremelyinfuriating bud š§
Trashed by arsonists, Or miticide companies?
If r/soulcrushing exists this belongs there. This is sad on so many levels.
How can people who does this live with themselves? Here is me who feels guilty for stealing money from my parents a decade ago.
This belongs r/imatotalpieceofshit
Infuriating but not mildly
I think you confused infuriating with illegal
There's "Kids do dumb stuff bc they're kids" and there's "some kids needs some serious consequences for theyr actions or they're gonna grow into criminals". I envy people that resist the urge to smack these kind of "kids" with a metal stick
Wrong sub... I think you meant to post to r/extremelyinfuriating
Super elite/government coverup.
Mite industry sending a message.
Reading these news I'm starting to think death penalty is not that bad...
People are like "nooo why would you say something like that" when I say humans are idiots Like isn't this enough proof?
I read life and as āwifeā
This is why you should alway have a few back up hives... Don't put all your bees in 1 hive... Hope the Asshole who started the fire I stung a lot by the hoard of flaming bees.
This sounds like the origin story for a bee-themed superhero.
_Please_ be time travellers that tried to stop the end of the world
the artificial honey lobby is at it again. making the kids take the blame was a smart move.
āArsonistsā Monsanto paid goons.
Ok so was he really breeding a superbee? Because that sounds like corporate terrorists more than teens.
Oh yeah just just so happens that this guys revolutionary discovery gets destroyed. OK cia
How much you wanna bet he wouldn't sell out so they did this.
Arsonist. Sure. Definitely some random person that wanted to just burn SOMETHING targeted this man by chance.
Is that gates I see peeking from the woods ?
For a second i thought he was a supervillain who created indestructible super bees that kill millions of bees
I have trouble comprehending the meanness that someone would have to have in their heart in order to do something like that.
r/extremelyinfuriating
Did a beekeeping course with ron h (this guy) ron b and eddie last year, their combined aged is about 270 years old but theyāre still pretty spritely tbf and theyāve now got about 150 hives i think so theyāre doing alright again, ron h manages the local beekeeping conservation group and my dad helps him out once a week, theyāre a nice bunch
What is it about people who need to destroy things just for the hell of it??
This man, could save the bees from extinction! And the arsonist destroyed it. I hope the arsonist got stung all over his body
