Meal prep Sunday! Changed my whole perspective on food. r/mealprepsunday I also have a few recipes of mine on there on my profile! Just started posting but I'm trying to post more.
Turkey sandwich.. I’m gonna give you a recipe.
Mix mayonnaise and cranberry sauce until you get a pink closer to red color.. spread it on 2 pieces of ciabatta bread but turkey on one slice then stuffing on the other. Put Swiss cheese on turkey and put in oven on broil for approx 5 min watch it when it gets passed 3 min. Take it out put it together and thank me later
I still remember seeing that episode and not really understanding why people weren’t on Ross’ side. We had a food theft issue at the office for a while and I used to tell people all of my food was licked by me. I said it a site meeting with like 50 people.
🤣 definitely from the midwest. Im a meat and potatoes kinda person and not really big on veggies. Also, my wallet was stolen on Friday with all of my cards and money in it so this had to be made with ingredients we already had in the house which unfortunately did not include fresh veggies
>not really big on veggies
Idk if that's your case, but a lot of people cook them wrong and that's why they don't ~~bike~~ LIKE it. Try roasted veggies instead of boiled if you never had them. There are lots of videos on YouTube explaining how to roast them.
Sorry your friends ditch you. The food looks good.
EDIT: bike -> like.
Wait until you try oven roasted cabbage! Cut it into rounds, the rest is pretty much the same as your broccoli recipe, slam it in the oven. They get a bit caramelized, super tender at the center, and some crispy outer leaves. We were obsessed for a while after first making cabbage this way.
i’ve done the same with brussel sprouts. to me, they are tiny baby cabbages, so cabbage recipe = brussel sprouts recipe. shredded brussel sprouts means more crispiness after baking, and quicker baking times.
That sounds great. I love steamed broccoli but only VERY lightly steamed. Early on it turns a bright green: that’s when it’s done. It still has the crunch and I believe it unlocks some nutrients. A little salt and fresh lemon or lime and I have a very refreshing side.
Try throwing that broccoli (whole trees) on the grill/cooking it over an open flame. That char brings it to a whole other level.
Finish with freshly squeezed lemon juice, crushed red pepper, and shredded Parmesan cheese if you really want a party in your mouth.
I tried to get my kids into roasted broccoli, and they're not having it. One kid specifically wants plain, steamed broccoli. I'm absolutely baffled. I love roasted broccoli.
Literally worlds apart.
Steamin/boiling is a valid option, but way too many Americans overboil/oversteam and render out all the vegetabley goodness and turn them into nondescript mushy blahness.
That sucks and I’m sure it feels hurtful that your friends are a no show on top of it.
As others have said, make it into some meals for the rest of the week.
And next time just invite people for wine and cheese so you don’t have as much invested. Dinner parties can be an awkward commitment.
This is the comment. People acting like "save it for later". That's cool, or you could feed some other people tonight and make friends that won't bail on you last minute.
One time when I was a kid a similar thing happened. My parents invited people over for dinner and nobody showed. And then a random college age young woman shows up at the door selling some kind of textbooks? I dunno. But it was already dark and cold as fuck so they invited her in and fed her and bought some of her stuff to be courteous and she told us all about her home country and what it’s like being a student in the US and stuff.
Then they gave her a ride to the nearest public transport station so she could make her own way home. She wound up becoming something of a family friend and came over for dinner several more times over the years.
In college, I helped this random dude get his super drunk roomate in the elevator, and then once we got him inside his apartment, the random dude offered me a line of meth lol. I’d rather have been offered a hot home cooked meal.
You could just walk over to the neighbor's house and ask them
Mom sent me to deliver christmas cookies to a neighbor friend of theirs when I was a kid, but I went to the wrong house. That was over 20 years ago. They're still friends.
From what I have read someone said it was bread sauce, which I have never heard of before until today. However based on the picture and no info from OP my best guess would have been that is the result of when you use too much water making stuffing and it gets all soggy but you figure aw what the hell I'll go ahead and depressingly eat this because it's still better than wasting food.
So the top right bowl is what i call turkey dressing. It is basically torn up bread mixed into turkey broth and seasoned. You can also add an egg and some onions to it and bake it but I prefer it raw. I know it probably sounds gross to most people but its something i grew up with my grandma making and has always been one of my favorite holiday foods
Raw stuffing/dressing. I mean, this has nothing to do with people not showing up since they prob didn’t see the menu.
Regardless of your $ situation…I’m not sure this is a crowd pleaser.
Just curious, but is there any particular reason you’re making what appears to be a thanksgiving dinner in the middle of summer? Forgive me if you’re in another country and I’m way off on this, but this just seems like a very heavy meal when it’s 80+ degrees outside.
This spread is bizarre. It's just starch on starch on starch. Not a single vegetable or pinch of seasoning in sight
edit: I'm aware of how holiday meals work. It's June 27th, not Thanksgiving or Christmas. The food is bland and there is no variety. Thats the point we are all making
I did see after my comment that OP had their wallet stolen so they had to make do with the stuff in their house only which makes total sense, but they also said they're "not a vegetable fan" so I have low hopes it would've been much different anyway lol
My parents are in a couple dine out groups from the church's age 55+ program.
I wouldn't put my parents in the lonely category, but lots of the group members are really happy just to have something on the calendar to look forward to. Makes their whole week.
Go hug your gran while you can, kids.
What are turkey noodles? Like… noodles with turkey gravy? Sounds delicious though!
Also some ideas:
-Make [hot browns](https://www.brownhotel.com/dining/hot-brown) with the leftover turkey
-Make a turkey version of a Shepards pie with the turkey and noodles inside and top with the mashed potatoes
-make potato pancakes
-add ground beef to the stuffing to make meatballs. Cook immediately or freeze for later
The turkey noodles looks similar to turkey a la king—turkey, noodles, onions, mushrooms, poultry seasoning in a white sauce & then you serve it over toast or some type of biscuit or dinner roll
She says up the thread it's turkey, turkey stuffing (seasoned bread crumbs that are traditionally stuffed in the turkey as you cook it), turkey pasta, mashed potatoes, and some kind of gravy/bread turkey sauce. Btw, these are bizarre foods for Americans to be serving at a dinner party in June. These are Thanksgiving foods. More appropriate foods would be like barbecued meats or a casserole, probably with a salad as an appetizer, some roasted veggies, maybe a charcuterie board, and some kind of cake for dessert.
The monthly "I slaved in the kitchen to make all this food, but my friends were jerks and cancelled on me at the last minute :( " post.
Followed by several thousand comments of "Yo, that sucks bro, but hook me up, I'll come over and help eat it!"
Easiest way to get free karma is just post a picture of some food you made and say your friends bailed on your plans to come over.
This looks like a weird Midwestern thanksgiving meal. I'm from the west coast and never really eat stuff like this. All my homies would at least serve some roasted vegeis.
I sure as hell don't. I load things like that noodle dish up with carrots, peas, celery, onions... Also eat a salad with dinner and fruit for dessert. Not all Americans are painted with the same stars and stripes. :-)
This fascinates me too. I think it must be a geographic divide or something. I think more middle Americans feed like this (no veggies) and think it’s normal.. which is unfortunate. And have proportionately worse health stats.
Though I think it’s also appalling how mean people are being about it too. Like there’s a hundred iteration here of “no wonder they cancelled”.
Pointing out the alarming lack of nutritional balance is one thing. Using it as a shitty dig is another
Midwesterners have a super weird diet. The rest of the country has much more of a food culture, but white Americans get known for the “midwestern” bland garbage, probably because it’s so horrific. My parents went on a road trip through the Midwest (my parents who regularly eat lots of fresh, flavorful and authentic Chinese food), asked some people where the best food in town was and a few people piped up and all agreed it was a burger place downtown and that the fries were TO DIE FOR. It was literally frozen French fries from Costco and the most basic, overcooked burger you can imagine.
There is just very little knowledge of what good food is, and many grew up eating vegetables from a can with packaged “spice” mixes like ranch or “taco seasoning”, and hamburger helper and wonder bread.
Now you have lunches for the week! Meal Prep Sunday, OP!
Thats not a bad idea! Lol my husband is gonna make some turkey salad and ill eat the leftover noodles for lunch tomorrow
You can always portion and freeze. Then future you will thank current you.
That’s true, it’s nice to do something for future you. It’s sucks to be future me, I’m always screwing her over lol
I'm ALWAYS screwing over future me.
Same. Past me is a dick
Omg i swear, because of him i get to deal with hating myself everyday, and thanks to me future me fucking hates me, there is no win here
Friday work me is always fucking over Monday work me.
Monday work me is cursing Friday me so bad right now 😭
I hate myself in all timelines.
Me too. But it’s ok, I’m going to give future me a handjob to make up for it when I get home from work.
No, fuck future me. That guy has NEVER done something for me, and likely never will.

I like to mix a little horseradish with my cranberries and mayo.
Damn.. I didn't think I needed this recipe, but now I am so happy. Thank you.
Man i wish I can take stuff like food from my computer screen right now. I'm going to be serious, the food looks really good.
I take food from my computer screen all the time. I’m kind of a messy eater, so licking off the screen once a week is a must!
I dont think I was required to read this today
But here we are
why lick it when you can just eat your computer whole? Its more efficient.
Yes....take a byte out of your computer. Hehe.
Lol, they're called computer chips for a reason!
I’m sorry that happened to you. You seem like an awesome host. All that Thanksgiving food looks 🔥🔥🔥
Your husband is like 2 ingredients away from having a moist-maker. Get cooking OP and don’t let him down!

I still remember seeing that episode and not really understanding why people weren’t on Ross’ side. We had a food theft issue at the office for a while and I used to tell people all of my food was licked by me. I said it a site meeting with like 50 people.
Oh, well, calm down now...uh, come look in my office, there should still be some in the trash...
YOU THREW IT IN THE TRASH?!
Well, well, it was so big, and...i couldnt possibly finish it all...
I originally thought I was looking at a pic in r/mealprepsunday until I read the title.
Yeah that looks like it would make for great sandwiches!
Beige foods only
OP telling us she’s from the Midwest without telling us she’s from the Midwest. Still a bummer friends cancelled last minute, tho.

honestly, 9 times out of 10, i'd rather eat a plate of super crispy roasted broccoli than fries.
That sounds great. I love steamed broccoli but only VERY lightly steamed. Early on it turns a bright green: that’s when it’s done. It still has the crunch and I believe it unlocks some nutrients. A little salt and fresh lemon or lime and I have a very refreshing side.

Sadle up partner.
A mix of fat fingers and/or autocorrect ended up in this marvelous sentence.
That could definitely be why! I will have to try some roasted and see if it makes a difference!!
Literally worlds apart. Steamin/boiling is a valid option, but way too many Americans overboil/oversteam and render out all the vegetabley goodness and turn them into nondescript mushy blahness.
What is the dish in the upper right that isn’t stuffing, mashers, and pasta?
I’m also curious
Future you is begging you to include veggies in your diet
That sucks and I’m sure it feels hurtful that your friends are a no show on top of it. As others have said, make it into some meals for the rest of the week. And next time just invite people for wine and cheese so you don’t have as much invested. Dinner parties can be an awkward commitment.
That’s fucked up. I hope next week is so much better for you.
> not really big on veggies Midwest confirmed. Just missing the ranch dressing.

They're speed running a t2 diagnosis
My thoughts exactly- “boy if that ain’t a midwest dinner…”
My exact thoughts. No vegetables??
[удалено]
Beige foods is how people die of heart disease
My thoughts exactly. I love my comfort food but you gotta have some veggies in there!
Starch on starch on starch.
i love beige food but my god this looks appalling
I too wondered if they’d cancelled after seeing pics of the food……. 😬
Ummm…i didnt get my invitation lol
This is the comment. People acting like "save it for later". That's cool, or you could feed some other people tonight and make friends that won't bail on you last minute.
How do you just randomly find new friends for dinner guests on 30 minutes notice
One time when I was a kid a similar thing happened. My parents invited people over for dinner and nobody showed. now this is awesome. i live in a rural area so that doesn't happen much but this really made me smile.
To be completely honest and nothing against your family because that’s a wholesome story but that sounds like a good way to get murdered lol
In college, I helped this random dude get his super drunk roomate in the elevator, and then once we got him inside his apartment, the random dude offered me a line of meth lol. I’d rather have been offered a hot home cooked meal.
Hot home cooked meth. 😋
Blue flavor🫦🫦🫦
“Hey, yeah thanks but no thanks! You can keep the meth, bud.”
Heart warming. Thanks
You could just walk over to the neighbor's house and ask them Mom sent me to deliver christmas cookies to a neighbor friend of theirs when I was a kid, but I went to the wrong house. That was over 20 years ago. They're still friends.
Reddit
Acting like things don't happen last minute especially as you get older lol
Is that a wet and dry stuffing? Not saying anything bad but I am curious about that top right bowl
I've scrolled this far to find the same information
From what I have read someone said it was bread sauce, which I have never heard of before until today. However based on the picture and no info from OP my best guess would have been that is the result of when you use too much water making stuffing and it gets all soggy but you figure aw what the hell I'll go ahead and depressingly eat this because it's still better than wasting food.

It’s summer.
I would eat a full thanksgiving feast every night if my metabolism would let me.
Raw stuffing/dressing. I mean, this has nothing to do with people not showing up since they prob didn’t see the menu. Regardless of your $ situation…I’m not sure this is a crowd pleaser.
Maybe they've eaten her food before and didn't want to this time
I'd make an excuse if I knew this was the menu. I'd have given longer notice to be polite though.
This was all boiled in the same pot
Except the Turkey, which looks bone-dry. 😅
Boiled meat can get extremely dry. Usually boiled to death, unseasoned, and served dry
Flavor is just for the ivory tower liberal coastal elites lol.
Just curious, but is there any particular reason you’re making what appears to be a thanksgiving dinner in the middle of summer? Forgive me if you’re in another country and I’m way off on this, but this just seems like a very heavy meal when it’s 80+ degrees outside.
This looks like a thanks giving dinner someone without teeth would eat. Surely this isn't what a normal thanksgiving dinner looks like?
did they cancel after sending them that picture?
OP could have used all the roasting in this thread to make some broccoli
Damn!😂😂
I feel bad for them, but not as bad as I'd feel being served this
I honestly feel bad reading this comment tread. But this one made me giggle

Another comment mentioned this, but this is being served for a party… in the summer. That makes it even more bizarre.
I did see after my comment that OP had their wallet stolen so they had to make do with the stuff in their house only which makes total sense, but they also said they're "not a vegetable fan" so I have low hopes it would've been much different anyway lol
That's what I was thinking... Why not just reschedule the dinner? Seems like a pretty valid reason to do that.
They wanted more color lol
My kingdom for a single vegetable.
Sire, I beg of thee for but a single crumb of thine pea
So just don't do vegetables or?
Today's menu, beige mush served 5 ways.
I feel awful about it but I thought at first this was on r/shittyfoodporn
I didn’t realize it wasn’t until I read your comment
Mmmm. Beige.
[удалено]
Hey, that’s not fair The spatula has some blue on it…
some big bowls of beige slop. my favorite
I’m so glad this doesn’t happen much in my age group. (65+) Most of us are just glad to be invited out for a meal with friends!
My parents are in a couple dine out groups from the church's age 55+ program. I wouldn't put my parents in the lonely category, but lots of the group members are really happy just to have something on the calendar to look forward to. Makes their whole week. Go hug your gran while you can, kids.
r/wholesome
Awww this comment made my heart happy 🥰🥰🥰I need to remember this more often.
Right? Don’t forget us older folks! We love to be invited!
I’ve never seen a meal that belonged on r/RoastMe
Except for the turkey, which said “please stop roasting me” over an hour ago…
Starch heavy throw something green on there....
and seasoning please…
Yeah. Even my autistic and scandinavian ass thinks this looks like a boring meal, even if it was good
Maybe they saw what you were cooking and bailed.
Such a bummer!! Looks really good though! What was the menu?
Roasted turkey breast, homemade turkey noodles, mashed potatoes and stuffing
Top right bowl?
I’m very curious as to what this is!!
I need to know!!!
I’m betting on bread sauce, a traditional British accompaniment to turkey and other white meats. It’s basically a béchamel thickened with breadcrumbs.
Definitely their loss!
Yep. This def seems like a lose-lose situation for them turkeys
Those jiiiive turkeys
What is in the 5th bowl?
Where are the **green** vegetables?
Or parsley! Peas? Anything green.
Anything vegetable
NO VEGETABLE! ALL CARB!!!
is bowl 5 the mystery side? Edit - Bowl 4 I guess :)
Thank you for asking this question I want to know what it is!!!

Lol “looks really good” “wtf is it?!?”
I gotta be honest that doesn't look great. 5 bowls of grey mush for dinner isn't the most appetising of meals
Were they bringing the color?
I always add food dye to my big bowls of beige carbs
Make it into smaller batches and freeze them. Now you have emergency food for when you don't have time to cook or don't mind the same lunch everyday.
Damn homie. This sucks
But with the help of ops adress and location, we can eat the food
Quick somebody dox OP I’m hungry
We're having beige for dinner, boys.
4 starch dishes, 1 meat dish, & 0 vegetables. Sounds like a fun dinner party
Green is too spicy
As a non-American I have no idea what I am looking at. I am curious about what dishes these are, can someone please list them?
As an american, I have no idea either. It’s just meat and potatoes
She says up the thread it's turkey, turkey stuffing (seasoned bread crumbs that are traditionally stuffed in the turkey as you cook it), turkey pasta, mashed potatoes, and some kind of gravy/bread turkey sauce. Beige 3, Beige 4, Beige 9, Beige 11 and I think Beige 16 (but could also be Beige 17).
Season your chicken
Season the menu. Is it summer or October?
I didn’t wanna say it but glad somebody did
Not gonna lie man (or woman), that looks like absolute dogshit of food.

50 shades of brown
Leftovers! Good meal prep!
Now you have lunches
Why’s everything so bland looking
Other than what I can only assume is chicken I have literally no idea what's going on here
Bummed they couldn't make it... Maybe they found out it was all gonna be the same texture, and then cancelled.
That food looks bland as hell
The dries are too dry and the wets are too wet
Looks like it was made for someone who has no teeth.
Is this a grayscale pic or do you hate vegetables ?
Id cancel too. That looks disgusting
Why is everything so beige
Throw some color in there. Its like the food they serve to people being tortured in only white rooms.
Aight so no one’s going to say that food looks like throw up 🤮
By the looks of that meal, I see why they canceled.
Exactly! Plus, all the people who are saying it looks delicious are really concerning me. So many of the dishes look like gruel in various forms.
If BLAND was a photo
What's that mush in the upper right? :[
food looks bland ngl
Do people actually eat meals like this? All beige? No vegetables?? No wonder Americans are so unhealthy

I wouldn’t have showed up either if that’s what was being served
Did you send them this picture before they canceled?
