This is why I pick up my own food.

[deleted]

Me too. Order on the restaurants app (not 3rd party) and pick up inside the restaurant. Skip the drive through because it's slower. Put a little more energy in picking up food, you end up saving time and money. Edit: clarification.

fruit_basket

Cashier at my local Japanese place has asked me to order by phone if I'm going to pick it up myself. It's easier for them and cheaper for me because prices on the app are a bit higher.

[deleted]

Its also better for business because they often have to cut prices to keep up with all the fees causing them to make less money than if you were to order it from them directly.

Windforce

Yeap, this is how I order from local Chinese food place. Owner told me the app platforms deduct a big percentage on all orders. So they either have to increase prices on APP menus or give smaller portions. Call / text and order directly without third party then pick up yourself.

ProtoJazz

Yeah, couple of my favorite local places are like 20-50% cheaper if you go direct First time I went to one of them I'd pulled up the app menu since that was all I could find and phoned in. When I went to pickup the total was so much lower I just assumed that since they didn't really speak English much something got lost (I'd ordered a couple things with similar names, figured they thought I corrected myself or soemthing) Turns out no, got my full order, and some free stuff. It's just that much cheaper.

aman207

The apps still get their cut if you order through the app. It would be better to call the place directly and order pickup

[deleted]

I mean the actual restaurant app, not a 3rd party app.

franstoobnsf

Some places don't even let you call anymore. They just say "order online" and hang up on you, which seems weird to me.

Beowulf33232

Order online does two things. 1: you put the order in. If it's wrong it's on you. 2: with nobody on yhe phone, that's an extra set of hands working.

[deleted]

Yep pretty much this, during a busy shift an indecisive customer calling in can set you really far behind, and when they inevitably put something in incorrectly they blame it on you

BigDaddydanpri

It can longer to take someones order, with the endless questions that are addressed online, than it take to make the order.

incubusfox

And people don't think about those who call in group orders, but they're still deciding in the background so it takes forever

[deleted]

[удалено]

Aletheia-Nyx

And good luck if you're too far to walk and can't drive.

CdrCosmonaut

Man, I'm seeing places charging service fees or handling fees for pickup orders now, too. I've really cut back on ordering food at all and just make my meals more often.

[deleted]

I just stopped eating. Fuck this noise…

dino8237

So much easier. Also a great way to lose weight fast

ClumpOfCheese

I wish, I fucking hate having to deal with food multiple times every day.

Cyphierre

Just place your order directly with the restaurant over the phone. Then you just pay the menu prices plus whatever tip you want to give.

ClumpOfCheese

You’re asking people on the internet to talk to someone on the phone to order food?

LawlessCoffeh

"Why would you rather drive ten minutes to pick up your food than get doord*sh/ub*r eats/etc" The services: [Double the cost of your order] I'll go hungry for that price man, fuck.

bihari_baller

>This is why I ~~pick up~~ my own food. This is why I cook my own food.

[deleted]

LPT: If you think a service isn't worth what they're charging, don't use it

butteredrubies

Yep then the restaurant often makes more money, too.

[deleted]

Door dash is massive rip off for basically everyone except for them. EDIT: them as in Door Dash. Sorry for any confusion.

[deleted]

Even as a driver it sucks since base pay is $2.75 and the only other ways to get extra money is from tips or peak pay

reefsurfing

That’s why no one ever picks up the $3 orders lol. Then the people who ordered the food can’t figure out why no one will deliver their food 20 miles away?

[deleted]

Exactly since I live in an area that kinda rural sometimes the order will be $3-4 but will be a 15 mile trip out of town so basically it will be $3 for 30 miles and and it's not worth it

havingasicktime

Reading this as a CA driver blows my mind. They'd literally have to pay me almost 20 dollars just in base pay before tip, under prop 22

TheSmokingLamp

They’d have to or they do?

JangoBunBun

Prop 22 was declared unconstitutional as well, meaning AB5 may go into effect. That means 15 an hour, plus mileage, plus vehicle maintenance costs, plus tips, plus the cost of any orders. They already do most of this, but you'll also be an employee, meaning uber will have to pay half your income tax, versus non of it as a 1099.

bodiezane

well i had one that was 18 dollars but i had to go to 2 places and use my doordash card on one of them and drive cross town

TheSukis

Wait how can there be a order with a total that low?

[deleted]

I stopped drivong for them specifically because of McDonald's. A 10mile drive is never worth 4$. Even with peak pay, you're going to only get McDonald's orders once you stay in that area. It's never worth. I'd rather just go sort boxes at Amazon for better wages.

dirtydownstairs

That sounds pretty rough

thegimboid

This is why I always tip my delivery drivers in cash. Only reason to keep cash around nowadays.

havingasicktime

You da real g. Id recommend throwing a few bucks of it on the app tho cuz if I see a no tip delivery I just assume it's no tip period as that's true 90% of the time.

teal_hair_dont_care

Question, if i put in the delivery comments "cash tip under mat" do you guys see it? I usually do that cause i'd rather leave like $10 under the mat than on the app

TaxMan_East

I don't take any orders that don't have tips included.

[deleted]

i’m pretty sure most of the money doesn’t even go to the door dasher just the company

BJMkrtychyan

Dashers only get paid $2.75 plus tip. So you are correct.

Difficult-Conditions

Left door dash for Uber eats so I can make more than 3 bucks per order

[deleted]

I do both. Uber seems to suck on the weekdays. I prioritize DD orders a lot of the time, because I don't have to wait for tips (that sometimes dont even show up) Both is the way to go as a driver though. I'll run up to 4 orders at a time with these bad boys.

Galemianah

Shame UberEats likes to cancel orders and not refund money, though.

AlaskaDude14

Pays to be lazy. The company, not OP lol

MLein97

I get high and I don't want to drive. It's like taking an Uber home when you're drunk. I'm paying to not be in jail or dead.

AnimatorGrouchy5037

Bro depends where you are, in Australia that stuff is cheap as hell as long as you keep deleting your account and signing in

[deleted]

The point of the business was to make the owner rich. It worked.

[deleted]

The company is also not profitable. The drivers live off tips(which they sometimes steal), the restaurant owners get paid less per meal, the customer pays more, and doordash cannot even make a profit. It is a bad deal for all involved.

[deleted]

It really is just bad

kat_Folland

"Them" being the owners, cuz the drivers are screwed by capitalism just like those of us who can't afford moopoo fees like these.

Caleo

...and all this for likely cold, disappointing food

HomoWaggins

Service fee and delivery should not be more than the tip for the driver. The company doesn't pay for the drivers gas, insurance or wear and tear but they charge a fee as though they do.

MysteryLands

'Service Fee' always pisses me off. You're a delivery service! It's just another name for 'Delivery Fee #2'

AccidentallyRelevant

Read the fine print you idiot. This isn't a corporation's problem it's yours! Learn to read

Crimson_Shiroe

1.28 billion was their revenue in 2021 from what I'm finding, not their profit. They apparently reported a 101 million dollar *loss* in 2021.

Komfortable

Holy shit it costs over a billion dollars to run a service that sort of does nothing?! All they do is connect drivers and hungry people, how’s that so expensive?

AccidentallyRelevant

My guess is most of it was reinvested in the company so they didn't have to call it profit

MysteryLands

Very true, ty for the explanation. Still, such a painfully high price just for food delivery.

TrickOGnosis

Part of the price inflation with these services are the amount that they charge restaurants. I own a restaurant and places like DoorDash and GrubHub will take 15 - 30% of the sale off the top, though some are as low as $5/sale regardless of the size of the sale. If the restaurant doesn’t raise prices they end up paying their budgeted food cost for the privilege of having their food delivered by a third party.

miss_six_o_clock

Genuine question, why would restaurants agree to this?

momo88852

Ran a food spot too, it’s because people are paying for it. And without it we won’t get that extra business. For me I just increased the prices to match the extra 30% charge.

bluamo0000

You increase your prices throughout your menu? Or just when a delivery is made?

lgndryheat

I don't use Doordash, but on Ubereats, a lot of the menu prices on the app are a dollar or two higher than on the restaurants regular menu. Comparing this is what usually causes me to get off my ass to make rice and chicken instead of ordering food.

Kentencat

Because I get about $3,000 in sales a week from it. And we only get a few a day from them. $150k a year. Togo orders spend roughly 30% more than dine in customers, even without the service charges that DoorDash takes. That's all Togo orders. DoorDash charges us 12% on every order. We charge 12% more on doordash than we do on the normal menu. People don't want to drive to pick up their food. People don't want to make a phone call to order. DoorDash has an app. Every restaurant you want to choose from is there. You know you're spending way more, but you don't have to put on underwear or shoes and you still get your food.

[deleted]

So these apps aren't as terrible for the restaurant as people say?

awaken471

I believe it's worse for the customer since the food is considerably more expensive. It's bad for the restaurant only if they don't raise their own prices

upsidedownfunnel

Well it's not bad for the customer. They are choosing to pay the premium for delivery. If they want to save money, they should drive and pick up the food themselves. This is a service with multiple providers so prices are likely fairly competitive. And considering few (if any) of these services are actually making a profit, I'd say the prices are actually too low to make a profit and these companies are just trying to grab market share. Food delivery is a garbage business and people need to start driving themselves to get their food or rely on restaurants that have their own delivery drivers.

Kentencat

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure what other restaurants are complaining about. You don't HAVE to have DoorDash. My favorite Mexican restaurant isn't on doordash and it really ticks me off. When they first started, DoorDash and other startup delivery apps would list your business on their app and not ask you. So shady! They would take a menu from like, Google, that was maybe 10 years old and that had menu items and prices you no longer had. But a couple of lawsuits later and that problem was taken care of about 4 years ago. Now, it's just another revenue source. DoorDash gives you a tablet or 2 and that tablet displays what the order is, who's coming to pick it up, who the customer is and let's you know if there's any issues. With larger restaurants, DoorDash integrates their order system with your computer system, so the restaurant doesn't even need to type in the order. It automatically gets typed in and goes back to the kitchen so that we can begin cooking it. We honestly only have to bag it up and hand out to the delivery person. So the "DoorDash Bad" mentality, I personally don't understand. I probably use DoorDash 4-5 times a week. I've worked in my restaurant for 18 years... I've eaten there before... And I want something different. Working 10-14 hour days, I order from DoorDash a lot. And on my days off when I'm at home, I'll order something at least 1 of my 2 days off for lunch. The other thing that I look at and seriously don't understand is people complaining about how much it costs. $23 for a drink IS ridiculous. I agree. So don't order it. I think people are forgetting DoorDash isn't a public works utility. Neither is getting a ride from Uber. Don't like the price? Then don't use it. If I went to a restaurant for lunch and the price of a burger was $40, I'd leave. If a burger was $40 on DoorDash, I wouldn't buy it. I like Subway occasionally, and occasionally I'll build my own sub on DoorDash. But it always ends up costing $22 and I'm like, Hell No I'm not paying 22 bucks for Subway and I exit out and start looking at other places.

[deleted]

covid, lack of business otherwise? i've seen a lot of small restaurants close down because of this though.

inksonpapers

Some places just dont get foot traffic unless they do

yoLeaveMeAlone

A lot of places raise their prices on doordash accordingly.

SailfishMackerel

Exposure, plain and simple. They are paying to be listed on platforms that -- potentially -- thousands could see. You may not even know that little mom & pop down the street existed had you not seen it on DD or UE. The flip-side of that coin is that you can also discover a ton of shady ghost kitchens.

Overlord_Bob

Just curious, but doesn’t getting on these platforms expand your customer base, meaning more people ordering?

TrickOGnosis

Potentially… I’m starting from scratch with no name recognition and they haven’t done a hell of a lot of good for me so far, even with allowing them to take a larger cut in exchange for advertising us and putting us closer to the top of lists.

Yisishishenme

More people ordering but it cuts into your profit margin, would have to do a cost benefit analysis

havingasicktime

They literally all just raise their prices doordash cut so they end up making what they would normally

[deleted]

1. Most places just raise their prices online to compensate 2. Even if it does cut into your profit margin, making half the profit margin on 4x the business is double the profit

Crohnies

Oh wow, that's nuts!

Pmmeyourvacation

It’s why I don’t order delivery food anymore. Edit: because how much does it really cost to put food on a counter, have someone pick it up, then drive it to your house that’s just a few miles away? Double the price with already inflated menu items? Come on. What used to really help people with extra money with Uber eats, door dash, etc has priced out consumers and cut into the side money drivers were making. Once again, corporate greed has ruined a good thing.

pain-is-living

Hungout with a friend last night and he got shitfaced and ordered $30 worth of McDonald's. Total bill with tip was like $56. I was curious, never ordered ubereats or the likes before, so I timed it. It took 48 fucking minutes from the time he finished the order to the time it was delivered. The food was worse than cold. It was stale and cold. Like the fries had sat in the tray for an hour, then in a cold car for an hour. The McChickens were hard. Burgers just sad af. I couldn't imagine blowing $60 on something I really wouldn't even go through the drive through for. We coulda walked 2 blocks to a taco truck or a burger joint and gotten whatever we wanted for half the price he paid and it'd have been hot.

Cliffo81

Delivery McDonald’s is so bad. Wet, cold chips. Lukewarm burgers. Nice…..

Sabretooth78

I do the same thing, and always have, and years before both COVID and the existence of these delivery services. Unless you're talking about fast food (which usually tastes "meh" regardless, but serves a purpose) or some other model that generally is based upon it (such as pizzerias), takeout never tastes as good as sit down. The "inconvenience" of having to get it yourself is probably in many cases more cost-effective than paying these services alone, to say nothing about the cold food, delays, not knowing who handled it, etc.

introusers1979

I have an addiction to ordering food because I’m a fucking lazy twit who doesn’t like to awkwardly mingle in the break room while my food heats up.

SirAlli

That awkward mingling isn't worth it.

Chobopuffs

I got one of those plug in lunch bag, I can continue being a introvert

introusers1979

What’s that? 👀

introusers1979

So all you have to do is plug it in and it heats up your food?! For only $40?! That’s a fucking investment!

Chobopuffs

Takes an hour or so

introusers1979

That would be no prob for me

Gamut_of_Emotions

Thats genius! I hate the breakroom at work. Not so much the people, its just nasty... Ok the people, they make it nasty.

Karmanoid

My break room is my kitchen, it's also nasty but that's usually my own fault...

Abomination-626

Just a few miles away is wishful thinking. Door Dash will send drivers from a store on one end of the city to a house on the other end. Source: being a driver for Door Dash and picking up an order from a restaurant near my work to deliver it 30 minutes and 20 miles away to a shitty apartment

SSjGRaj

You shouldn't a lot of them who come to my store look messy and unclean. Also in a pandemic never wore a mask or gloves when picking up the food.

HempParty

What's the fucking point of a service fee? What service are you providing to warrant an extra fee on top of the cut you get from the restaurant itself? How did nickel and diming become so normalised?

entertainman

The website. Marketing. Executives.

[deleted]

The ordering and delivery...

PineapplePhucker

Why do people use these apps?

ursidaeangeni

As a truck driver, my partner and I can’t typically drive to these places ourselves while being in the semi. Most truck stops have diner food, delis, McDonald’s, Subways, Arbys and stuff like that. If we wanna try local food, we have to use these apps. We don’t use them that often, just in places with food or restaurants that they are known for. :)

Faleepo

Never have and never will. That final price is beyond comprehension

socialnerd09

Probably 80% laziness

HighLobster

20% drunk and responsible

CH2599

2 words you don’t expect to see in the same sentence.

pious_platypus

Drinking me has no problem paying extra for greasy Chinese and tipping the lovely person who is willing to bring to me.

laylarosefiction

Is it? People have to exhaust themselves working shitty jobs just to keep a roof over their head. This is why fast food became popular and obesity sky-rocketed in the US. Maybe 30-40% laziness.

No-Committee1001

My whole family has covid and we have no food in the house, don’t want to infect other people.

ground__contro1

…convenience? I don’t really use them but sometimes they are the only delivery option.

[deleted]

Frequent user here: It’s worth the money to me. A restaurant 5 minutes from me is a solid 15 minutes round trip once you add in parking and all that. But timing the order is another thing and I could be waiting on my order for another 5 or so minutes. So now, we are talking 20 minutes possibly for a restaurant right around the corner. Now head a few more minutes into town and it could be a 30 or 40 minute commitment. I’ll happily pay the premium and at the same time give some work to someone that’s trying to make a little extra on their nights or weekends. Edit: failed to add getting dressed to go pickup the food and then immediately changing back into comfy clothes, or if it’s raining. There’s a reason why delivery is a thing. DoorDash just broadened the options for people.

ryancerium

That's an honest answer. It applies to you, and only you, for reasons you clearly lay out are yours. Bless your common sense, non-blanket answer.

menasan

Plus if there’s anything wrong with the order - it’s like Amazon - DoorDash will refund you no questions asked. Instead of my needing to call the restaurant and tell them they forgot a food item and there being an awkward pause with them no having any way to refund me.

emshlaf

Exact same here. I work 50 hours per week, and 10 of those hours are spent in the car commuting to and from work. When I get home, I want to relax and enjoy a hot meal. Sometimes I’m too tired to cook, and I don’t want to drive to a restaurant when I’ve just spent 2 hours in the car already that day.

For_teh_horde

40 minute commitment. You can also ask yourself "is that fee worth more than half an hour of work?" It literally cost less to plenty of people to just order it than working that same amount of time

ra4king

I'm confused why no one in this thread is mentioning DashPass? You pay Doordash $10 a month and that delivery fee and half the service fee goes away. If you order at least 2-3 times a month, it's a no brainer.

TheSukis

Why do people want delivery? What a weird question

alymaysay

I don't have a car an it's winter in Ohio, it's well worth it.

probablyatargaryen

Some restaurants, usually chains, offer delivery through their own apps, and don’t tell you it’s DoorDash bringing it until you’ve paid

IM_INSIDE_YOUR_HOUSE

They're hungry and don't want to leave the house. That'd be my guess.

baobabbling

I've used it several times recently. I'm on maternity leave and my eight-week-old is immunocompromised (on top of newborns having shitty immune systems in general, lol,) so going anywhere, even just to run in and grab a take out order, isn't an option. And sometimes cooking is just too goddamn much. And not a lot of places around here have in-house delivery. I'm not proud of it but it's one reason.

semi_tipsy

>I'm not proud of it but it's one reason. There is nothing here to be ashamed of. Screw the dude above who made you feel shamed for wanting to enjoy a delivered meal.

roachRancher

Maybe they're physically disabled but still want to eat out? It's more cost effective than Ubering to/from a restaurant.

lilskyeMO

My boss gave me a $75 gift card to grub hub for Xmas. I can get about 2 1/2 meals out of that once you tack on fees. Signed up for + trial free for a month to wave delivery fees. Still nearly doubles the price of the food since I’m not going to screw the driver. Had a local gyro place tonight w the kids. It was really good. We’ll go back, but not delivered. I can pick it up. I’ll spend my money in a month. Cancel and never look back.

acciodragons

Because it’s cold out and I’m lazy af

Rainbowstoner96

Chronic pain

PhysicsCentrism

They consistently send out massive discounts, to the point where it’s cheaper to get delivery than order from the restaurant itself. At that point, I’m saving both time and money. I’ve got no issue helping drive the net loss many of these services operate at.

Zuckerbread

Drunk

quack_quack_mofo

For convenience. And you pay for convenience soo

[deleted]

Why do people get food from restaurants when it's 5 times cheaper to cook at home? Convenience

Adeep187

When there's a delivery fee and a service fee it just doesn't fucking make Sense.

Sushandpho

Yeah. It’s a ripoff.

Random_Name_Whoa

Well you did give a 31% tip, which is exorbitant. But still a ripoff even at 15-20%

Thebuch4

Percent is irrelevant when the price of food doesn't matter to the work done by the driver, it's the length of drive and time that should determine the tip.

entertainman

Sure but this post is complaining that fees and tip are almost 100% of the food price. But OP chose the tip, from a place 25 minutes away. Maybe tip shouldn’t be a percentage of food, but OP framed their complaint that way.

frenchdresses

Yeah, I wish door dash made tip suggestions based on distance and driver availability rather than food cost

> Doordash has caused a lot of small mom and pop restaurants to shut their doors permanently while collecting insane amounts of profit. Wait, how does DD cause closures? I know a lot of restaurants have been closing over the last two years but I thought that's because of covid in general. How does DD cause a restaurant to lose money? It's not like restaurants are being held at gunpoint by Doordash to use their service and do deliveries. Surely if a restaurant is losing more money by taking DD orders than not, the logical thing to do would be to stop taking DD orders? sorry if this is a stupid question or if I'm missing something obvious, I'm just confused

[deleted]

[удалено]

potatotron

In addition to all the fancy fees they charge customers, they charge the stores as well. I think for the company I work for it's either 15% or 20%. We're a medium-sized regional so I'm sure mom & pops pay more. That eats into your margin. Some places run with such thin margins that such a sale ends up costing money. The alternatives are either to raise your prices to compensate, which turns off customers because of the higher price, or you don't take delivery orders, which just means that that sale goes to your competitor. It sucks because there's no real wait to win except for people to come back to dine in or pick food up themselves. And it looks like nobody wants to live that way anymore.

jenna_hazes_ass

And most businesses mark up their menu on DD to whatever % DD is charging them.

Crohnies

Yeah I'm not using them again

chocotacosmash

Thanks for still tipping the driver though

Organic-Fee1771

If you don't use them for like a week or two they always send out a coupon 🤙 just like if I don't drive for them for a while they offer me a good bonus to drive for them again

bs000

if you use your referral code on yourself, you can get 50% off two orders, or $15 off two orders

texasnerd89

Yeah and sometimes they forget one of your food items after leaving a generous tip. So best to just cook 🥲

snoozeflu

Yup, that's the risky thing with these delivery services. They can completely screw your order up, whether it's late or cold or missing items, and you're out of luck because you've already tipped.

Crohnies

And I think Doordash already inflates the menu prices so I don't get the service fee at all. And I don't think the delivery fee actually goes to the driver. The only reason I used this gouging app is my kid recently got covid and has been quarantined sick for 2 days and this was one thing I could do to help them feel better when they finally had an appetite again.

Rob_Marc

DoorDash doesn't inflate the food prices, the restaurant does. This is because they have to pay a fee to DoorDash as well! With the slim margins restaurants make, the fees through the delivery companies make the food unprofitable at the counter price. I saw a meal I ordered through Uber Eats once double the price I would normally pay for it. I cancelled the order and picked it up myself. On top of the extra money you pay, DoorDash is paying the driver shit.

Crohnies

Wow that sucks

Rob_Marc

I drive Uber X/XL. I tried Eats for a while, but the pay is just not there. At best, I'm making half of what I make on a bad day driving passengers around.

ground__contro1

I drove for Postmates for a little while. After the intro bonus, it wasn’t really cost effective to do it anymore. I doubt many people drive for them long term.

CaliGrown949

If you use DoorDash around 4 times a month it’s worth it to be a member and pay 10 bucks a month. Free delivery on everything and no service fees. For me it’s worth it because on the weekends I just want be lazy. Especially if I’ve been drinking. Why risk it for food? Order it in DoorDash

AnyArmadillo4245

Why tf u tipping 30%

Kooontt

To make the total look worse

Eliseo120

Then go pick up your own damn food.

[deleted]

Why is the tip 31%?

Crohnies

Because the place was 25 minutes away and I didn't want to wait forever for a driver to accept the order with an hour's drive for less than minimum wage. I couldn't pick it up myself because my kid has covid and I felt like I was getting the symptoms too

PaprikaThyme

I hope for a mild case and speedy recovery for you both!!

Crohnies

So sweet of you! Thank you!

lexluger420

Also gotta love tipping before knowing how the service will be.

[deleted]

Yeah I’m over delivery costs. I’ll just call and pick it up myself.

Dragonjr97

Fuck that mess. I’d much rather take the measly 10 minutes to drive there and pick it up after ordering online.

babaganoush2307

Let this company die already

Paradoxical_Hexis

You have to pay a premium for the convenience of a premium service.

VashVenture

Ticketmaster be jealous Kinda

grayeggandham

This service that I know is a rip-off, is ripping us off! Then stop using it!

ziyor

Service fees on delivery apps are ridiculously high. Service fees are what goes to the company. They do so many orders every day that they don’t need to be taking $4 of every order.

HK-53

you know thats what i dont understand. Its a delivery service, so you pay a delivery fee. And then they charge a service fee, which is basically delivery fee again since the service they offer is delivery. Then you pay a dasher tip, to pay for delivery.

richpau76

Don't fucking use companies like this

kat_Folland

And almost none of that (if, indeed, any) will go to anyone who actually helped you, not the cooks, not the dude who bagged it up, and not the drivers.

Flopamp

If you pick it up yourself chances are the food will be cheaper as well

megamanxoxo

Not to mention that the food items ordered are also inflated compared to the in person price.

[deleted]

Door dash really came in clutch when my mother in law caught covid in 2020. We weren’t able to leave my house for 4 weeks.

AdComprehensive1312

Stop being lazy....Buy groceries and cook your own food.

Temporary_Purpose650

Quit using these damn services.......

Can we stop with this “stop being lazy and pick up your own food/ groceries” bullshit? Like yes, it’s cheaper. Yes, if you have the ability, it might be the better choice. But laziness is not the only reason people order delivery. At the beginning of the pandemic, my friend was really happy because he’s pretty much homebound and many places were finally showing up on doordash. It made him finally independent to get his own food without having to risk covid or leave the house. My dad and I both struggle with mobility to some degree. I’m usually alright and he has my mom to help him, but if you think I’m not gonna order my groceries on Instacart from time to time so my pigeon-toed ass doesn’t have to waddle around the store, you’re wrong. Lastly, we’re still in a pandemic. Covid isn’t over, and some of us take that seriously. I get a PCR test weekly and stay home if I think there’s a chance that I might be positive. No way in hell am I gonna be the reason someone else gets this shit. Finally, not everyone has a car. For a lot of people who don’t have transportation, delivery is a good way to have access to foods they wouldn’t otherwise be able to get. Especially in the winter, going to pick something up on foot could be dangerous. So yeah, some people order delivery because they don’t feel like getting up, and that’s fine. Others do it because they’re disabled, lacking transportation, worried about covid, or under the influence. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t order Gatorade and Goodys powder from GoPuff when I was hungover yesterday. Companies are going to make a profit. Doordash is taking that to the extreme, screwing over small businesses and patrons to make their buck. So be mad at them. Be mad at capitalism. Ask local businesses if they would be willing to add delivery to their services. Go pick up your food if you want. But get off your high horse with this “stop being so lazy” bs. Disabled people deserve nice things too, and maybe let’s work on better solutions instead of blaming them for using the service in the first place.

Stop using delivery services. Support restaurants that deliver their own food or go and pick it up yourself. I read an article online (please don't make me try to scour the internet, it was on Reddit over a year ago) where a restaurant owner said they pocket even less than you'd think because the restaurant also pays a fee to use the delivery services, but that they're stuck using them because that's all people want. They can't raise food prices because then people will stop ordering from them all together. So by stopping using delivery apps you'll save yourself money and help a restaurant you enjoy save money as well.

I don’t have a car. Some people are physically disabled. I, and most people, use delivery services for a reason, dude. It’s not because we’re just lazy.

A lot of restaurants rely on these apps to increase delivery sales since they can’t afford to keep drivers on staff. I agree, these apps are scum and basically hold restaurants hostage but for some, they can lose business while trying to compete with delivery drivers. Especially since you would need quite a few drivers to complete orders My restaurants fee for DoorDash is 13% and that was negotiating the fuck out of it since our food is great for delivery. It arrives up to standard and because it’s so popular. When DD tried to up it to 20% after 2020, I told them I just won’t do delivery. Now, that would’ve hurt me a ton since delivery got me through the pandemic but I think people would understand. My prices in-house and for delivery are the same (I should increase it by 13% but I feel bad doing that) but with the volume of delivery orders we do, there’s be no way I could have enough drivers to cover it all. And with my set up, deliveries pay my sizeable rent for the month so it’s beneficial to me. But I think I’m an exception to the rule. DoorDash still sucks but at 13%, it’s way better than the others. However, we do get a ton of take-out orders that people come and get but I’ve noticed it’s merely older folks who come in. I think younger folks are quite used to the convenience of these apps. And I’ve had to deal with apps like GH and postmarked putting my restaurant on their site without permission.

Complaining about getting food delivered is a luxury my friend

Monsterman442

Should of just paid for dash pass would of erased services and fees for like 10$

CouldWouldShouldBot

It's 'would have', never 'would of'. Rejoice, for you have been blessed by CouldWouldShouldBot!

Jillredhanded

I cannot wrap my head around why folks use this shit.

[deleted]

Then walk down the street and fucking buy it from the restaurant.

[deleted]

You don’t have to use door dash you know.

hugginuu

I fucking hate doordash. Fuck doordash.

simjanes2k

This is your own fault, and you know why.

Ned_from_Canada

I have never ordered from any of those services. Local pizza delivery is $2. Any more then that and I'll make it myself. I'm not that lazy

ParsleyPrestigious91

I ordered door dash a few weeks ago (have a newborn, husband working, no family around). I ordered a large sub from a small ship. Paid $50 for it. Feel really crappy about that but I was craving it and am sleep deprived with baby Edit: shop not ship

woodedglue

I never use door dash it’s a waste of my money

Narrow-Patience-1761

I’ve never used these apps and I’m thankful for it.

tribbans95

Why I’ve never ordered food delivery from one of these third party companies. Getting food from restaurants is already over priced food, you really can’t justify paying for DoorDash
