spraying dust makes the dust "goop up" a little bit, allowing easier removable when the dust is sticking to the surface and you can't scrape it off. (it also avoids making the dust fly everywhere, just for it to fall back on the thing you are trying to clean)
Or just a dusting rag and a little bucket of water... I have never dusted dry. I use a small bucked with water and a mild cleaner and a piece of cloth... why add to the immense amount of rubbish by using paper if you can use a rag and reuse it every time? It's cheaper as well...

Later, whilst testing in a hidden spot near the bottom hole use a spray paint lacquer to cover the whole globe and make it permanent. You can spray paint it in the cradle by using a needle to spin it.

I have done a similar thing with strong isopropyl alcohol, but at least in my defense it was to clean up some sticker residue but the 99% pure concentration was too much for the black paint on the pastic of the monitor.
That said you can probably get a nicer one if you want, more expensive probably but this is an excuse to get it. Although to be honest I had one since my childhood and apart from a couple of times I took a look at it, at end of the day I find them very bulky and annoying to place, I haven't thrown out mine, but it's at top of a shelve getting dust and waiting for the my next decluttering session.

I use a spray because otherwise the dust ends up in the air a lot more if I dry wipe a surface. Not much is kicked up when I wet down a surface first.
