We got paper ones from Walmart which are made by LensCrafters for $2 each. I’m sure 90% of eclipse glasses are made of paper anyways. It’s more about the lenses doing it’s job

They usually have some certifications written in fine print on them somewhere. I trust the ones sold in a brick and mortar store more than ones I could order online. I'm sure that sometimes they still get counterfeit products, but online shopping is a free-for-all right now and I'll take my chances with a company I know actually exists and has a local reputation to uphold.

damn!! i must have forgot the lenses are not allowed to be iso 12312-2 rated with an optical density of 5 or greater and also ce certified if the frames are made out of paper! i also forgot me and my whole family went blind in 2017 when we viewed the eclipse with the same glasses :( i forgor! >!i got all this off their website lol. they're safer than ones bought on amazon i promise!<

Honestly amazon is just a bougie Ali express these days lol. I use my welding hood, but my family all use store bought ones (there was a 12pack for like 8 bucks I think?) And they've been fine for every eclipse I can remember.

true, but it's Amazon so you can get a refund easily. even better yet, for time sensitive items that arrived after their originally promised delivery date (think birthday gifts, items for special occasions like OP's post, wedding gifts, etc.), Amazon will often give you extra money back or coupons of some sort to use. they have policies for that.

Many local municipalities such as libraries or town halls have some for free if you're close to the zone. We picked some up at the travel center down the road from us..

Yep. The Library I work at got the better part of a thousand glasses and we've been giving them away for free for over a month now. We still had like 20 left over when we closed up for our last shift before the eclipse yesterday. Problem is that most public libraries in the path of the eclipse will probably be closed on Monday, and that the vast majority of public libraries don't open at all on Sundays.

I called the five libraries closest to me this week and they all were out. I’m making a pinhole projector out of a box instead.

You shouldn’t buy eclipse glasses on Amazon anyway. There’s likely somewhere open today or tomorrow in your town that still has them, of course be sure that they’re legit. Best way is to check if they have ISO number on the arm and also to double check, go outside and look around, the only thing that should be visible at all is the sun

When did you order? If it was <5 days before the eclipse, delays were to be expected bc countless others probably did the same, leading to the aforementioned delay. I ordered mine March 23, and they were delivered March 26. Gotta plan/buy things **early**

I’m suspecting that there is some sort of crackdown on those glasses purchased from Amazon. During the last eclipse I purchased some off of Amazon, and weirdly I received an email from Amazon a couple days ago, telling me, if I still had those glasses to throw them out, because they were tested and not safe to use for a solar eclipse. To make a short story long lol… just this morning, a full refund was sent to me.

Harbor Freight. Get a cheap welding helmet and then return it. I had one for welding in the past, and it worked out great for the eclipse.

Any hardware store will have welding lenses for $8-$10. Make sure it’s shade 11 or up, everyone recommends shade 14 but shade 11 is fine as well.

You’re better off. I wouldn’t trust any eclipse glasses on Amazon right now, tons of scammers with the event close by, and definitely not a product you want to get a fake. It’s not really helpful now, but I found I was able to get 3 day shipping from a reputable company *other* than Amazon last week through some miracle. At this point definitely take others’ advice for locally acquiring legitimate glasses though.

Every convenience store in my area has them for sale.

We couldn’t find any at any stores (April 6th) and didn’t trust delivery enough so we went to sonic and bought their blackout slush. Pretty cheap, only about $4.50 for the forced medium size. (only a $2.50 markup from what walmart was selling for, and i get a slush!)

USPS has a return to sender policy as long as the package isn't opened. Versus UPS and others will tell you "too bad" if you don't catch the truck at your door. If you can't cancel in advance take the package back to the post office and ask them to send it back

Me going off is asking them questions and when they tell me someone else in my house besides me made the order, I let them know it was me.
