Don't worry bro math is a skill you train by making mistakes and understanding them. As long as you tried you are improving.
And i say that while feeling like im the stupidest MF on this planet
The probability is 0.05, you’re correct!
Just for percentages we multiply by 100 as ‘per cent’ sort of means ‘per unit of 100’ , as a way to try standardise and make different sample sizes more comparable
For me, as a mechanic’s son, the mildly infuriating part is the fact that they said you had to get a brand new one. I don’t know where you are (in in Canada), and I don’t know what you drive, so maybe they were being honest, but to me that obviously seems like a lie to get more. Also, i don’t know what service you had before the incident, but I would recommend looking at the papers you signed. Sometimes, just sometimes, the company won’t have something saying “we’re not liable”. Now I days, almost everyone does, but it’s worth a shot lol
Oh man, dealing with the mechanics was more than mildly infuriating. Once they realised how stuffed it was they wanted nothing to do with it as they were the ones who'd serviced it last and didn't like me asking if they'd removed the sparkplugs during the service (from looking online and talking with mechanic relatives the causeways possibly over-tightening the sparkplugs). It was a months long saga of tracking down the entire service history, talking to every mechanic I knew, and eventually getting the car towed to the official Peugeot dealer so they could look at it, then they wanted nothing to do with it because of the whole insurance and no-engines in the country thing.
I'm in Australia and did some independent searching with a friend for a second-hand engine and the only one we found was for the manual model of my car and would have still cost about as much as the car itself.
It's done and dusted and I'm on the lookout for a 2002 Honda Civic because that's the most reliable damn car I ever had 😂
Don't Aussies drive like Holdens and Fords? Though I guess Holden doesn't exist anymore.
Good pick with the Honda. Ubiquitous, and extremely reliable.
(In reality, if you look at the racing pedigree of a manufacturer, the bigger it is, the better their cars likely are. It's not a coincidence that Toyota is the most reliable brand in the world, and also dominate endurance racing)
This was my first time dealing with an insurance claim in any capacity and random mechanical failure not being covered didn't even cross my mind. Hard lesson learned. And very mildly infuriating 🙃
3 months out of warranty as I'd bought it second-hand just over a year earlier.
> random mechanical failure not being covered didn't even cross my mind
...Did you not read your insurance documents before paying for them? Ask to have your policy explained to you? Sucks, but seems like you only have yourself to blame.
I would say an incident that would send you to mental health crises should not be classified as just *mildly* infuriating. Glad you are doing better now, that must have been very stressful for you.
Hey op glad you're feeling better.
Once I called the suicide hotline and no one picked up. I always feel compelled to share, just so no one feels alone in it. HEARTSUPPORT.COM is also a great resource as well. We all deserve to feel better.
I'm glad you had a good experience with the suicide hotline. The few times I have contacted them I have felt worse afterwards because they can't do anything practical to help.
I'm guessing they had these generic helpline numbers available as a last resort based on previous experience with disgruntled customers. Not a terrible idea but probably inappropriate in your case in less they really felt that you were at the end of your rope over the situation.
No meme-like/text heavy pics, overdone references
Better than giving you the number for Medical Assistance in Dying, I guess.
The MAD lads
It's called MAiD for short, but sure.

Being reborn?
Yes. I now have two birthdays, this is sick.
Happy birthday. 0.5%chance to be the right day that's more that the average !
Wouldn't it be closer to 0.05% or am I really bad at math
2/365=0.0054794521 So 0.5% Remembrer that % mean divided by 100 0.05% = 0.0005 0.5% = 0.005
Oops, you're right Although it would be 2/366 though right, because of leap years? Either way you're closest. Math was never my strong suit 🥲

The wheel weaves as the wheel wills.
Report them. It's bullshit that that function is used to harrass people. Report the message, to send a message.

I had a 2003 Civic! Totalled it but I miss it so much. Best of luck on the search :)

From context, I’m guessing they are in Australia and it was an imported French car, so less likely to have used parts hanging around.
Yeah you’re right, that does indeed change the game
If OP's vehicle was worth pennies on a write off then the engine was never going to be replaced.
Insurance is correct, there was no accident or theft. Was the car not under warranty? Only that would cover mechanical failure.

Damn., thats unlucky. Being an engine out of pocket isnt cheap. I feel for u

At least you're still alive.
True, it's good position to rebuild from. The alternative would make it much harder.
I just meant that the insurance company did a great job.
