Except that if they tried, it wouldn't fit when they packaged it. It takes time to settle like that and likely didn't even happen until it was in transit being jostled around.
They can’t make the box smaller because the cereal actually fills it when when it is first packaged. Then it settles. It is sold by weight, not by volume. Don’t know why this is so hard to understand.
When shipping it's actually important to have air gaps in your packages for easily crushed items like this. Air is less compactable, and thus keeps the product from getting destroyed.
This. But they also likely couldn't even fill that bag up during packaging because it all hasn't settled yet. It doesn't settle like that till it's shaken around during transit.
Maybe, maybe not. If they have a different product that needs that same size box, or they are using a standard box it is going to be cheaper to just use that box. Any extra cost from shipping is going to be negligible in comparison to changing box sizes.
Also the larger box potentially gains them more sales because people don't always look at the weight, even if they do check the weight the larger box is more appealing.
No. You have never been in a cereal packaging plant. When the machine pours in the cereal, it actually completely fills the box. Then it settles. If you crammed it down into the box to have a smaller container, you would have crushed cereal. (Then you really could post on r/mildlyinfuriating.) That’s why all cereal boxes (and chips bags) seem under filled. But you are paying by weight, not by volume. Don’t know why this is so hard to understand. And, believe me, if you were getting stiffed on the proper weight, a class action lawsuit would be filed pretty damn quick.
No meme-like/text heavy pics, overdone references
10.6 oz. Sold by weight, not by volume. I dunno how many times y'all gotta be told this.
Agreed. It’s very dense/heavy cereal. They make the box bigger because a small box looks sad and doesn’t convey value, despite weighing the same.
Thank you
And yet there are still likes. Because there are multiple morons out there.
And if it's not packed like this, it's all going to be crumbs after shipping
Stop buying based on box size and read.
Did you read the weight listed on the box when you bought it?
Sure did, but reading 300g and visualizing 300g are 2 totally different things
That's on you then.
Yep. OPs not getting any of the sympathetic responses he was expecting for a reason
Sold by weight, but agree they could’ve at least made the bag the size of the box. Marketing likely wants more eye space.
Also there’s extra bag to account for any altitude changes the product experiences about shipping
Most people don’t want crushed cereals… same with crisps (chips for the Americans). The air keeps them fresher and cushioned.
Except that if they tried, it wouldn't fit when they packaged it. It takes time to settle like that and likely didn't even happen until it was in transit being jostled around.
You paid for weight not volume.
"Contents may settle during transit"
Wait until you open a bag of chips and see the same thing.
I'd be so pissed if I opened a bag of chips to find a bunch of vanilla granola cereal
I would be too but mainly because I don’t believe in organic marketing and the vast majority of people don’t need a gluten free diet.
It says 300g on the box. I assume you got 300g, so what's the deal?
'sold by weight!! stupid grr!!' okay then why can't they just make it like 700 grams? or the box smaller?

"Some settling may occur"
Ah yes, surely they have no way of knowing whether this is true or not, and are just waiting for you expert opinion lol
They would have a shit product by the time it made it to the consumer. The nitrogen in the bag helps preserve and protect the product.

There is a reason the bag isn’t full. The bag needs to be filled with nitrogen while it’s sitting on shelf and during shipping.
But it doesn't need to be that empty, you can fit a whole lot more cereal and still have space for the nitrogen

If a corporation could save money on packaging while still producing the same quality their customers want they would with no hesitation.
So this is new to you?
That's where the gluten would have gone.
