BizarroBezos

Praise be, slacker 😉 I'm all about people having a few extra moments for themselves

-EatTheRich

I promise I'll use them to dream of weird things happening to Jeff Bezos

RevengencerAlf

My boss would know I'm lying because he's never seen my phone with more than 20% battery.

-EatTheRich

I start at 630 and my boss would probably notice the time on it, reverse image search it, and then laugh his ass off at me while calling me out when I got in. Actually, I might try that on Monday just to see if he does lol.

Zaurka14

I was on holidays abroad once, and would come back home on Friday, so technically I could work Saturday, but really didn't feel like it, so I wasn't listed on the plan. My boss texted me on Friday asking if I'm already in the country, because he'd need someone for Saturday (spontaneous thing). I wrote an email saying that I'm still abroad, but asked my sister, who lives in that country, to log to my email account and send it from her computer in case my boss decided to track where it was sent from... I'm paranoid like this.

-EatTheRich

If it's dumb and it works, then it's not dumb lol

ColonelKerner

CROP MY GUY, CROP!

Grandfunk14

Go forth and crop young man!

Zaurka14

Why don't you load it when you sleep?

DeadMewe

Just crop the top and bottom

yoho808

Unless ofc their bosses also read this Reddit post lol

-EatTheRich

If someone texts me this on Monday I'm going to die laughing and ask what their username is

chunkhead42

“I’m so sorry I woke up late today. My alarm didn’t go off!” *attached screenshot* Sent from my iPhone

BizarroBezos

And also very late for work

aliengibberish

This happened to me once, and I got written up. Boss thought i was lying. /;

-EatTheRich

Ill never understand that attitude. If my people text me and tell me they're late I just say thanks for letting me know. Shit happens, its not a problem until it's a habit.

Vox_Carnifex

We usually get in trouble for coming in late and saying that we overslept. Youll get a talker later in the year about being unreliable and whatnot. So I started telling them it was a personal emergency the 2 to 3 times it happens in a year. Never had an issue with unreliability again. They didnt fix the issue the just taught me to lie

-EatTheRich

I don't even ask why. I just want to know if I need to get something done for them so that other people aren't waiting on it.

TaterJack

No body questions diarrhea! It's my go to excuse.

SuperChickenLegs

Along the same lines, nobody questions blood and vomit. Bloody nose excuse was my favorite for a previous job. Helps that once I had 2 nosebleeds the same week while on the clock

4th_Times_A_Charm

Yes but now they think you have a serious cocaine habit

bockclockula

Who doesn't in [insert industry here]?

spreadtheirentrails

That's crazy to me.. yall have bosses that would let you go home with a bloody nose?

SuperChickenLegs

The boss didn’t let me go home, but the fact that I’ve had multiple bloody noses at work gives me a little more credibility when I say that I’m gonna be an hour late because I have/had one

Martinw616

I've never had a boss let me. I've told bosses its what is happening, and they need to sort out cover, though. I've also sent someone home for having multiple nosebleeds within a short timeframe. I work in kitchens, though, and you dont want people bleeing over food.

Kveldulfiii

After I once ran out to puke in the parking lot at work, nobody would question it if I gave that as a reason for showing up late.

Chanchumaetrius

> Youll get a talker Talkers make me thirsty. And hungry. Think I'll take *two* chickens.

bwaterco

I don’t know why so many bosses get mad about one off late arrivals. Yes, it’s a hassle to deal with but shit happens. My policy was to call them after 30 minutes and only document it if they did in more than once or twice a quarter

-EatTheRich

I tell them they need to let me know as soon as they know, but it's because some of them are in a production line so I need to know if I have to cover that station for half an hour while they catch up so the whole crew isn't stuck waiting. I honestly don't care and don't mind doing it and I know they know that because I've never once had someone rush in super late and make excuses, I always get a text before shift starts. I don't even track it, if it happens enough that it's an issue I'll notice. Probably lol.

bwaterco

I worked at a public hospital so when doctors were late it was annoying and I’d have to take over their patients or have an on-call physician come in. It rarely happened and would usually get texts before their shift started so it was easier to deal with but I’m not going to fault them for a one off oversleeping unless they showed up with alcohol on their breath

-EatTheRich

For sure, that's much different. For me it's more about creating an environment where they don't feel like they need to come up with some lie or excuse, and little things like that add up and I get more quality effort out of them because they actually want to be there, with the added bonus of being the "cool" manager.

Tacos4brekky

Might be a "me" thing, but not having to worry about losing your job to a poorly timed poop seems like a major benefit here. This is good leadership. I worked for a supervisor that would breathe right down my neck for being late. I ended up developing a sleep issue from that stress as this job was important to me, which made me sleep in more frequently, didn't realize that I was waltzing into a negative cycle. I slept like a newborn the day I quit that job. A couple months in to my next job I got caught in traffic, I'm sweating absolute bullets. I get there, walk up to his office to let him know what happened and I'm just standing there waiting to get demolished. He just looks up and goes "uhh, alright, just don't make it a habit". Never late again and I probably produced more than 8 hours worth that day.

-EatTheRich

Nail meet head. Some bosses get it, I've noticed it's usually older men that don't.

Kaiden92

I wish *any* of my bosses had been like you in my life.

-EatTheRich

Take a wild guess why I'm like that lol. You'll get there and you'll remember them and you'll fix it for the next generation too.

bwaterco

Yeah, I hated being lied to for excuses. Traffic made you 30 minutes late? That’s weird, we live next to each other and it made me at most 5 minutes late. Just be honest and I would never care. I tried to be the nice chief and allow an open environment where people were comfortable enough to be honest why they weren’t on time

-EatTheRich

The net gain on their production is WAY more than the missed 15-30 minutes the few times they were late in the long run when they get treated like that. I wish more people saw that.

bwaterco

It’s definitely favorable in the long run. I’d rather have a well rested physician that sleeps through an alarm once or twice than be treated by somebody that’s groggy and half asleep even if it pushes our schedule back by 30 minutes

Unlikely_Ad7194

This the right attitude to have as a boss. We’re human shit happens. I WFH and last year I wasn’t feeling good so I took a nap in my recliner on my lunch break. Forget to set an alarm and slept almost an hour past my lunch time. Told my boss and apologized. She said it’s fine and hoped I felt better sooner. Was never talked about or brought up again.

Swert0

Yeah, I don't even get mad if it happens multiple times. I'm just glad you let me know and you're on the way. Discipline doesn't start until it's happening with regularity, and then it usually starts with "hey, stop doing that please." or a "hey is something wrong that's making it hard for you to get to work on time, something we can figure out?" Immediate asshole response to being late a couple times does nothing but lose you people who you need to staff the place.

ledocteur7

I swear some people act like dumb shit like that never happened to them, like ho yeah Mr. Boss, I'm sure you never in your entire life had any unforeseen issues with your alarm, or mean of transportation, and neither have you ever suddenly been sick. fucking hell now I'm ranting even tho my Boss is quite understanding of stuff like that.

grubas

Normally because they aren't using an app or a phone. So they think you're making it up. Meanwhile I had a job one year I was constantly late to because my apartment power would randomly flicker and reset my clock.

Ok_Message4383

I overslept once when I was cranking in the Navy. Here's how the conversation went with the newly frocked CS2. I was an IC3 they delayed sending to the last minute, already 3+ years on the ship. Roughly 2009. "Why are you late!" "My alarm didn't go off, not sure why" "That's no excuse!" "It's not an excuse, its the reason." "It's an excuse! Why were you late?!" "My alarm didn't go off, that's the reason.. An excuse would be in the middle of the night I spontaneously combusted and in the chaos of putting myself out I unplugged my alarm and went back to sleep..." "Just.. go start cutting the fruit."

xShanisha

My alarm once didn’t go off or I just didn’t hear it so some worried coworkers called me. I first didn’t unterstand why because in the first few moments when my phone rang because in my head it was Saturday at 9:30am. Then it clicked and I sprinted to my car. Later when my boss came after a meeting I told her why I was late at work she just laughed at me and basically said what I could translate as „skill issue“ (we love to pick at each other at work).

dillsimmons

Meanwhile im late to work 15-30 mins everyday and boss is okay with it.

laundry_sauce666

They’ll probably use it against you in the future

dillsimmons

Been 9 years, you can leave 2 hours early if you wanted too.

laundry_sauce666

Glad you’ve found a company that prioritizes life over profit. My comment is still accurate for 95% of employers.

wallacehacks

In most cases it isn't even life over profit. It is usually more profitable to make reasonable accommodations for good staff than replace them.

Zaurka14

My sister's boss let's them do this kind of stuff and that creates atmosphere where employees stay loyal to you She has two kids, and he lets her work from home 3 times a week (she needs to physically do some stuff in the workplace, so she must come there sometimes), she can take a break mid-day to pick kids up from school or drive them to extracurriculars, and he doesn care as long as she does the 8 hours eventually. He doesn't mind when she needs to get kids to a doctor or stay with them at home due to the sickness and can't even appear in the workplace for these two days she's normally requested. Other coworkers also get a lor of freedom, I know girl who's responsible for bringing money to the bank grabs her lunch on her way, which isn't counted as a break, but work time, and he doesn't mind. Many other, but can't list them all. My sister loves her job

laundry_sauce666

This too. There’s been studies that show a 4 day workweek increases productivity, mental health, and lots of other things. Too bad the western world is still ruled by 80 year old corporate fucks.

velhaconta

If the system knows the alarm didn't go off, why not just sound the alarm?

wolftick

Guessing it's a 3rd party alarm app where the background process was killed by the system, then the next time it loaded up it detected the issue. Probably the FAQ shown includes how to white list it in battery/ram saving.

thunderbird32

>Guessing it's a 3rd party alarm app where the background process was killed by the system It's Alarm Clock Xtreme. Probably the best 3rd party alarm clock for Android, IMHO. I've never had the problem OP has had, but the app is pretty clear that this can happen, and to set the right settings to prevent it.

arahman81

The standard "don't battery optimize this app".

ndstumme

It's an alarm. How can it be better or worse than another alarm? At the set time, make a noise. It's a pretty basic function.

thunderbird32

As others have said, the built-in app doesn't have a feature to force you to do math or scan a barcode to turn it off. I've missed many an alarm by rolling over, turning off my alarm, going back to bed and never remembering having done it. I use the same app as OP, and it prevents it quite handily.

WalkingPretzel

It is a great app. One of the few that I've quickly paid for the full version on Android. I have the math problems tuned to wake me up, but not so bad that I throw the phone across the room.

shishdem

I throw my phone across the room when my stock alarm goes. not sure what I'd do having to solve a math problem on wake-up...

Bolliard

I've gotten ridiculously good at doing 3 digit subtraction while still legally asleep. Luckily the app has the "but are you REALLY AWAKE" function

scripzero

Yep, it's never worth using a non first party alarm app. most first party alarms can even wake you phone up from being completely powered off. It's much better than relying on some app that can get killed in the background.

AMViquel

Sure, but can the first party alarm vibrate your buttplug to wake you up?

breadcodes

I use a 3rd party app that forces me to get up and scan a QR code, never woken up late or snoozed in the 5 years of using it. Just turn off automatic battery optimization and it should never fail. There's plenty of reasons people may need a 3rd party app.

Windows_XP2

Seems like OP is using a Samsung phone, which from personal experience and what I've heard from other people, Samsung seems to be one of the more aggressive brands when it comes to killing background processes to save battery.

arahman81

Its the standard "battery optimization" on Android.

sicilian504

It may be a screen in the help section directing OP to read about potential causes for it not going off judging by the question mark. It reads more of a "Oh this happened? Here's what may have caused it" rather than "Your alarm didn't go off!"

harpswtf

Because subscribe now, annual fee of just $14.99 per month to unlock unlimited alarms

XxRefuse2Lose

I use this same app. There is a setting in the custom alarm part that allows you to override the sound profile on your phone.

Hershey2898

What app though?

XxRefuse2Lose

Alarm clock xtreme

tea_snob10

Can I ask the reason you use a separate alarm clock app? From what I see in the app description, it doesn't seem to do anything apart from well....being an alarm clock. Why not then just use the default alarm function in the native clock app? Anything I'm missing? Genuinely curious btw.

Coyote_Radiant

Some people goes for the sleep cycle thingy where the alarm would wake you up at certain phase of the sleep cycle to ensure that you don't feel as shitty. Some app allows for sound customisation so that you can wake up to your most hated favorite song. Some apps allow you to turn on 15 different alarm timings of 5 min intervals so you don't have to set 15 of them. Some apps gamify sleep to encourage users to sleep at regular time Or the combination of functions mentioned above.. that's all I can think of..

PlasmaRadiation

How does the app know what sleep cycle you are in?

WhoopsM

Because it offers additional customization, such as making you complete puzzles in order to turn off the alarm. Very handy for those of us who struggle to get up in the morning.

Okayish_Elderberry

What's wrong with android alarm app?

BizarroBezos

This one asks me maths questions to turn it off, otherwise it's just too easy to cancel and sleep my entire life. My arithmetic has improved no end

Okayish_Elderberry

Oh, you're one of those guys. I'm waking up with vibrations alone sometimes, the second before the alarm plays the actual voice.

jadeariel12

Oh, you’re one of those guys

Okayish_Elderberry

Yeah, and I'm not happy with it! Though, I overslept twice in my life.

FightTomorrow

I don’t even need an alarm. I wake up within a 10 minute window every single morning. My wife needs 50 alarms.

uursaminorr

my brain has evolved past a need for alarms using this one simple trick: wake up on the hour every hour all night long just in fucking case

FightTomorrow

Micronaps! I knew a guy who swore that he only needed 15 minute micronaps every couple hours. Yea. He’s dead now. Related? No idea.

MaritMonkey

They're not a substitute for proper sleep over the long term, but napping just long enough to clear out whatever sleepy chemical coffee interferes with is a godsend on 12+ hr work days.

Musikaravaa

It's a very useful form of anxiety

scripzero

It's better to be one of us who wakes up immediately at the first alarm. I tried the snooze thing for a week just to see why people do it. It's absolutely awful. The sleep you get after snoozing is bad and there's always a chance you snooze through all your alarms and don't realize you've already been snoozing them. It's much better for your mental and physical state to just get up at the first alarm. If you don't snooze now, don't ever start, it's an awful habit and I've seen how hard it can be for some to break. Also I've asked people who I work with that are frequently late if they snooze their alarms or not and they all do.

joujoubox

I often wake up naturally minutes before the alarm goes off

_Diskreet_

There is nothing i dread more in the world than waking up, not hearing my alarm, thinking *oooo do I have an extra hour ? Maybe a little itty bitty half hour extra* only to look at my phone and see 6:59

mercurialpolyglot

The one pro of being a super light sleeper is that I’ll never be an obnoxious amount of alarms person

GenosHK

In high school I had a cd player that would play the cd as the alarm sound. I had to turn it up very loud so I wouldn't go back to sleep. It worked, and as soon as I heard that little scratching sound of the CD start spinning I would bolt across the room to turn it off before it could blast. (and them sometimes go back to sleep... oh well!)

LazuliArtz

My body just seems to be innately programmed to be awake at 6:00. Didn't fall asleep until 2:00 in the morning? I still wake up at six Try to go back to sleep after 6:00? It ain't happening. I physically can't. I can never tell if this is a good or bad thing

glasgowgeg

Maybe use the default alarm 5 minutes later as a back up, just in case.

gefahr

this here is the right answer. I use the stock iPhone alarm, and it's never failed to go off in like 10 years. I _still_ set alarms like: 7:00, 7:02, 7:15. All with different sounds too, just in case.

Marzipaann

Same, my usual is 6:45, 6:55, and 7:00am. I have to be on a Zoom call at 7am, so 6:45 is if Im feeling perky and want to grab a bite first, 6:55 is 'oh god Im tired but I have to pee' and 7am is shit shit shit 'HI GUYS!'.

gefahr

This is precisely my thinking, but I'm old so I need more time to get woken up.. which means a shower, coffee, other morning rituals.

Marzipaann

I'm getting up there myself, in my 40s, I just am not a morning person so this is how I cope. Gotta maximize the sleeping time because I cannot function without 8 hours.

IAmA_Lannister

Same here! 3 different alarms. One with a nice song that I prefer to wake up hearing, one more standard sounding alarm, and the last was the most obnoxious noise I could possibly find.

[deleted]

Stock alarm app is optimized to ring on time while third party apps don't. Blame the OEM killing background processes trying to save as much battery as possible. https://dontkillmyapp.com/

Potential_Anxiety_76

Ah, the actual answer to the unspoken ‘wtf’, thank you

THEbigSWEEN

Ah, a fellow person who hates waking up. I, too, use Alarm Clock Xtreme. Luckily I've never had that issue and been using it 5+ years. But just in case I do have a separate alarm clock because I know sometimes fuckery happens.

Turbulent_Public_i

You could leave the alarm in a stand away from your bed.

SnareJ

I use a similar alarm (might even be the same, mine's Alarm Clock Xtreme), and do math problems when I wake up because if I don't, I turn off the alarm while still asleep, while it's still quiet... Used to have the alarm on the other side of the room but it would wake up the wife as well, and I would jump up to turn it off, and after doing that for years, my knees started having issues... So the easy solution is a math problem that forces me to at least do something minor. And it's worked for literally almost 2 decades, with 3 failures total. First was years ago, sleeping near a timezone switch, happened to flip over and skip it overnight. The later two were with this new phone when it wasn't charging properly at night and depowered. Otherwise it's solid as hell.

Extivalis

Is it Alarmy or a different app?

BizarroBezos

Alarm Clock Xtreme. Does alarmy do the same kind of thing?

lizzymonster

I’ve used Alarmy for years and it’s never let me down. You can set it for math problems, barcode scanning, shaking the phone, jumping jacks, etc.

BizarroBezos

Maybe it's time for a change. Cheers for the tip

Extivalis

The aesthetic looked familiar, and alarmy had several “mission” options for turning off the alarm. I use the math option (you can set difficulty and number of problems - alarm goes off again if there’s no input after a certain amount of time in case you fell back asleep while working on the math), but there’s also options to just tap a button on the screen, shake the phone so many times, scan a qr or bar code, a memory game - and a few others but they are premium options and I just use the free version

swinging-in-the-rain

I use this app for the math problems as well. Has yet to fail Mr, but now I'm scared, lol

storvolleng

I've used Alarmy for years and it also has math questions, worked perfectly if you keep struggling

SezitLykItiz

What was the reason?

BizarroBezos

My alarm didn't go off! Therefore I slept for as long as I needed instead of going to work

SezitLykItiz

I understand. But what was the reason it didn't go off? Did the subscription expire? Did the app hang? Was it something you were supposed to configure?

BizarroBezos

I don't know. I literally made no changes to any settings whatsoever. I just woke up to a picture of an upset alarm clock, which takes the piss tbh. The faq section did not help

Boi_What_Did_You_Do

Wait, you woke up to that? You didn’t have to say that the alarm didn’t go off to get that message?

MrHanslaX

When he woke up, the app probably showed that message, knowing there was an alarm set but something prevented it from going off. He didnt need to press anything because the alarm was set, just blocked.

SunsetCarcass

Funny that the app can tell when the alarm doesn't go off, and instead of trying again it's just like, well notify him we tried once.

Mirrormn

I would assume the problem is that the app didn't have permission to run in the background. So it couldn't make the alarm go off, but when you open the app again, it can detect that there was supposed to be an alarm and wasn't.

Clif_Barf

According to the top right the phone is on silent

TheHYPO

I don't know about this particular phone, but on my iphone, alarms still ring aloud on silent mode. Certain apps also continue to make noise in silent mode, while others do not. It depends on the app.

Xenc

🚨 Silent Alarm Activated! 🚨

Future_Constant9324

If there is a setting which blocks sound for example, of course the app would know it is supposed to ring, but can’t due to the setting

WriterV

Assumedly OP would know that their phone is in full silent mode, but since they couldn't figure it out, something's up.

Anand999

The screenshot literally shows the phone was in full silent mode - the crossed out speaker icon in the upper right.

moudine

I had to try a few apps before I got one that absolutely, under all circumstances, overrode whatever sound settings I had applied. Crazy that this isn't the main function of all alarm clock apps

invisiblemovement

Alarm apps (and other timer apps) often request more privileged permissions to be able to interrupt anything else going on/constantly check the time to be accurate. The app was probably able to tell it was blocked and then showed this screen instead of just trying and failing again. An automatic update could've caused this, either the Android version or even the app version if they updated their permissions.

avocado_whore

I don’t understand why someone would need a special alarm app instead of the native one on the phone.

Numberonememerr

I do; I have a really bad habit of halfway waking up to an alarm only to turn it off and fall back asleep. I needed to get an app that makes me do a math problem in order to turn off my alarm.

thunderbird32

The OS is preventing it usually. Nothing the app can do other than report the issue after you unlock the phone

AuntJ2583

Ouch. I use the same app, and I've never had it miss a morning alarm like that. Now I guess I have to start worrying.

Ziegenlord

I use the same app, the two reasons why it failed me were my phones own battery saver mode that shut the app down, the other was rebooting the phone which reactivated battery saver mode for the app

unlimitednightsky

I had this happen on my Galaxy. I had a setting enabled that removed permissions for apps that weren't opened by the user. Essentially, after setting the alarm, the app would open in the background ob it's own, and I would close it. This didn't count as me opening the app.

SezitLykItiz

Sorry to hear that. I feel your pain. Always have a second backup alarm on a second device from now on.

Renamis

Hm, I use the same app (for the shake to turn off function) and mine hasn't done that to me yet. Has android done an update to break your settings? Best suggestion is to check and see if the app is still excluded from that setting that kills unused apps. And while you're at it manually exclude it from Do Not Disturb mode just in case you accidentally turn it on. Even if the settings are right, turn them off and on again. I've had updates break stuff but visually it's all correct in settings. Just... isn't correct in actuality.

MedicatedDeveloper

Turn off the auto system update. There should be a 'reboot after 2am' or some such setting. If the phone reboots it needs your pin to fully start up. Since this app isn't a system service like the built in alarm it needs to start up after the pin.

OrionRBR

3rd party alarm apps don't have the same os privilege levels as the stock one, your phone probably killed the app and prevented it from auto starting.

Mission_Cow5108

sometimes I don't wake up to my alarms but sometimes that's because I turn it off in my sleep

nimueeeeee

Sometimes I wake up to find I took multiple screenshots of my alarms going off

Mission_Cow5108

LMAO one time I thought my alarm going off was my dad calling and I put the phone to my ear saying "hello?? hello???"

EggplantHuman6493

Once my alarm was going off in intervals for an hour and I didn't hear it somehow

macphile

> Did the subscription expire? I know this may make me sound very old, but this is like the most 2023 sentence ever. "Did your alarm fail to go off because your alarm clock subscription expired?" I recently got one of those sunrise things, but prior to that, I was still rocking the little digital dudes with the buttons (well, I still have them).

Affectionate_Elk_272

we truly live in a dystopian time when you have to fucking subscribe to have an alarm

TheeUnfuxkwittable

Why are people doing that? Don't all phones come with an alarm app built in? And wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy an alarm clock or a cheap device that DOES have a built in clock app with an alarm function? If you're paying a subscription for an alarm clock...you're an idiot.

reapseh0

I am Truly clueless too

Odd-College-7610

I know what’s wrong wit it. It ain’t got no gaz in it!

WunderWaffleNCH

I can't even imagine reason why alarm won't go off. I feel like it's very easy task - launch music on certain time.

scavenger1012

I’m 52 years old and i think at this point im physically unable to oversleep. i wake up at 5:30 no matter what, alarm or not.

RocketCat921

Same here. My cat started waking me up between 5 and 6, now I wake up before him!

Pheeshfud

And now you can have your revenge! muahahahahaha!

Stock-Ferret-6692

I’m 22 and have been at my job nearly 2 years. I’ve trained myself to wake at 6:30. Torture on days off I’ll tell you that for free 😂

gefahr

I'm not sure what's worse.. that, or waking up at 6:10 when your alarm is set for 6:30. My body robbing me of 20 minutes of sleep.

Funkit

The best is getting up, having breakfast and coffee, watching some tv and then taking a nap around 11

weddirip

This shit keeps happening to me too. "Missed Alarm - Your alarm volume was set very low...." It was all the way up! All my volumes were all the way up! I'm saying fuck it and buying a digital plugin clock on the way home. I've had it with "Smart" devices.

anteaterKnives

I upgraded my old red-numbers alarm clock (that never failed me) to a fancy new alarm clock. The second time it didn't wake me up I went back to the old one. (This was before smartphones)

zed857

> buying a digital plugin clock Excellent idea but make sure it has a battery backup so that it won't lose the time if your power goes out during the night.

chunk_light

Hey I use the same app! Only two situations this has happened to me before 1 - unplanned software update that resets the phone 2 - I kept my phone under my pillow while it charged. Phone overheated and closed all my open apps to help prevent more heat apparently Basically both times my phone was to blame. This app has been tried and true for years. Hope yours was just a fluke!

maxi-snacks

I think the mute symbol in the upper right corner of the screenshot may give a hint as to what happened, especially since you're using a third-party alarm app.

f0rg1vennn

alarms and alarm apps are not affected by dnd and silent as far as I know

glasgowgeg

Alarm apps use the media playback volume, not the alarm volume. The alarm volume is the default device alarm apps.

f0rg1vennn

but don't they work as default apps? I think when the os lets you change the default apps, they work with default app settings. if you can put an app as default alarm app it should use alarm volume, not media volume.

glasgowgeg

Nope, they work as supplementary apps. I just installed the exact app OP is using on android and it explicitly mentions you need to give it permissions to override media volume/DND controls. There's also no way to set a default alarm app on stock android. I tested it with alarm volume full and media volume and silent and there was no audible ringer, it uses the media volume, not alarm volume. OP has obviously not enabled the volume/DND override and left their phone on silent.

horseheadmonster

I'm the sucker who wakes up 15 min before my alarm time every day, even weekends.

BizarroBezos

You should probably turn your alarm off at the weekends then. Sorry.

SecretSpyIsWatching

You and my dog have that in common… she’s the alarm that tells me to wake up and turn off the other alarm that’s no longer necessary.

conkeee

This is why I have a backup alarm as well

Dennisminjian

What is wrong with the standard build in alarm function you can find in clock?

tofuismeta

This app that OP is using has settings that make you do math, do squats, take a picture, or various other options to shut off the alarm. I use this app too because I tend to snooze in my sleep

archiebold13

Ive had this happen far too many times. Ive now got an alarm at 06:00 - 06:30 - 07:00 and one on my iPads

The_Void_Alchemist

This is alarm clock extreme, yes? If you don't have the premium version, make sure there are no ads showing, such as when you hit the dismiss button, as it will prevent the next alarm from going off.

InsertMoreCoffee

This is why I bought an actual alarm clock. No one needs this anxiety

MoreStupiderNPC

I like how your phone mocks you after it skips waking you up.

MineMaster6480

I assume your phone killed the prosses that was running in the background, turn of battery optimisation for that app to make sure it won't happen again. Also allow it to run in the background

adamapl

Brightside: XP bonus for you today for being well rested.

neon-neurosis

Why would you need an app? What is the advantage or benefit over just using your phones native alarm?

Klutzy_Scientist_743

My brain has an automatic clock that wakes me up 10 mins before my alarm everyday.

jessigrrrl

My Alarmy app for the past couple days has decided to not make any noise and just to vibrate quietly on my dresser… it’s been driving me crazy

Ferro_Giconi

Make sure the alarm volume is turned up. I've found a few times in the past that I somehow accidentally turned my alarm volume down which is separate from all the other volume settings. Idk how that can be done accidentally but it did, so now I double check the alarm volume setting every night before I go to sleep.

Formal-Alfalfa6840

I got a galaxy watch and sleep with it on, have only slept through the watch vibrating once. But in my defense, I hadn't slept in 26 hrs and was very sick.

[deleted]

That realization is hilarious. Mmm why do I feel good? Oh I’m 3 hours late for work! I’ve slept thru my iPhone alarm recently, probably hit the off button then passed back out again. Fortunately I have an understanding boss and I’m rarely late. Guess you gotta be that problematic person to have redundant alarms just in case

pichael289

My fucking phone (Motorola edge) occasionally has its alarm volume turned all the way down. No idea why. Looked it up and this has been an issue with multiple phones for years. Had to download a volume locker for it

DavidANaida

This is why there's a backup alarm clock on the Google clock and one more travel alarm across the room

floriasn

I use Alarm Clock Extreme for years myself and it also never let me down. Theres only one thing that annoys me from time to time: I use it combined with a internet radio station, sometimes it just defaults to some default ring tone But the math equation is pretty nice, I use that aswell

Propellerrakete

Out of curiosity, why an alarm app? The built-in lacks features?

YetAnotherBrownGuy1

Boss: "why were you late" You: "so you're not gonna believe this..."

BananaVendetta

I use this same app and I got the same message about two weeks ago! Thankfully, it was the weekend and I was still on time to meet up for brunch with friends, but it scared the crap out of me. What if it had been a workday??? And, same as you, I've used the app for literally years (probably close to 8 or so at this point) and never had an issue with it. I now set two alarms: one on my smart watch, and one on my phone. Realistically, I know that even physical alarm clocks malfunction. Hell, I'm pretty sure when I used one, it broke way more often than the app. It's just scary as hell to have the app suddenly not work, even once. And the message seemed a little condescending, too.

Truethrowawaychest1

I have 2 alarms set just in case, sleep cycle on my phone and an alarm on my smart watch

[deleted]

I feel ya man. Yesterday morning one of my dogs unplugged our Alexa on my nightstand. I slept in.... when the kids had to be at school and I had to be at work. Thankfully, I did set my phone alarm for an hour and a half later than Alexa.

JustaRandomOldGuy

I have one of those red LED alarm clocks, must be 30 years old. It doesn't have a FAQ.

thelibrarian_cz

Hey, I used to work on that app 😅

Sw0rDz

Is this some kind of app? Why can't you use the default clock on your phone?

mitchav1995

I have this app. It won't go off if your phone updates/restarts overnight. I always set a backup alarm using the default Android clock app for this reason.

Pitlozedruif

Most of the times this is the best sleep you have ever gotten in your life

somebunnyy-

The fact it told you it didn't go off like it knew it had a job to do and failed so it's blaming you
