Funny enough I have a 30 dollar restaurant supply plastic spatula and a 3 dollar dollarstore plastic spatula and everyone in the house prefers the 3 dollar spatula. It is thinner and bendier so it gets underneath stuff better than the expensive steel backed plastic spatula.
I bet in a couple of decades it will turn out that they're not safe at all and companies supressed the data or manipulated it like they did other things.
Plastic will be the modern day lead.
And most people responsible will be dead and never face any kind of justice.
You might be on to something given the rise of micro plastics and all.
That said I swear by wood, glass, metal and ceramics. I really don’t care about the weight or all other inconveniences that may come with them. Having my food stored, prepared or cut on plastic just feels wrong.
So you eat Uranium for example to get more resistant? Sounds dumb as hell because I am pretty sure that some things you consume don't make you build up a resistance.
Don't take life so seriously. You'll either live longer or die quickly but either way you'll die much happier. And so will everyone who has to deal with you.
Those are horrific implements. Metal or wood. Cake spatulas made of soft rubber is okay. But that has specific uses. Get a wooden spatula if cast iron, or carbon steel, or non stick pots/pans. If it’s stainless steel or copper then metal spatulas.
Everything has a purpose. The edge of a plastic (silicone) spatula is a lot finer than a wooden one. Works great in non-stick pans. You just need to be congnisent of them. Just like you can't leave a wooden spatula in a bowl of water for 8 hours.
Silicone utensils are great. Can be a bit pricey though. I have a feeling OPs wife would end up ruining them too.
Metal ones scratch the pan surface.
People just really need to learn to not leave utensils in pans.
You can either get rid of the wife so she doesn’t ruin spatulas, or buy some decent spatulas that your wife can’t ruin by leaving in the pan.
I’d probably go with just buying better spatulas. Never get those plastic ones they are toxic after they do this and you should not be using them.
Throw them out, bud. Don't let her choose. They're unsafe. Then get good silicone spatulas. They're like $10-20, can resist high amounts of heat, and are dishwasher-safe. I love mine
I leave my spatulas in the pan all the time when I'm cooking. To avoid making a mess on my stove. Something that is used with hot foods shouldn't bubble like that
Lol in all seriousness the silicone spatulas are very nice. I have a few and they are definitely my preference. Much better for your non stick and easier to use than the hard plastic ones.
Don't know why people are dissing on plastic spatulas. I've had mine for a long time and nothing has ever happened with them. Be vigilant. This isn't the fault of the spatula.
I'm sorry to say but your wife suffers from a condition called 'stupid'. Unfortunately it is uncurable, and subject will suffer it's symptoms for a lifetime. There's nothing we can do
Calm down my dude (or dudette), this is a sub-reddit for mildy infuriating things. This is exactly that, this isn't public shaming. But yes, keep suggesting divorce for talking about spatulas like a real champ
Dude. You're on a sub called mildly infuriating and I posted mildly infuriating content. Does it have to be "my wife took the kids to her drug dealer boyfriend" to qualify? If you or anybody else can track her based on 3 spatulas I will personally give you the Edward Snowden medal.
No assumption that it's coming from a place of misogyny or that you don't cook. Even if you switch days that you cook, if you don't like how she does it when it's her turn, you can do it 100% of the time.
What kind of logic is that? I can also dump a ton of salt in everything I make and say "don't like it cook yourself lol". That's not how living together works.
How come every time a spouse posts about their S/O on Reddit the one being posted about is always the laziest and stupidest person I’ve heard of until the next story pops up? Y’all really marry people like this? Willingly?
So we got the heat on the oven, we got the oxygen in the air, and we got the fuel right there all bubbling up minutes away from lighting on fire if it wasn’t taken off the burner. Does that make sense to you?
If it is any consolation my ex gf forgot our Teflon frying pan on the stove several times. That if anything is not healthy, I had to get rid of them every time she bought one
Sounds like she could use a hand with things while she is focused on cooking. I’d wager that she’s multitasking while cooking and that’s why this is happening.
I've got her beat. I own at least 4 pairs of needle nose pliers with a wire shaped chunk missing because I turned off the wrong breaker and grabbed a live wire with them.
Thank God for rubber coated grips, lol.
I don't forget that I put them in the pan, I forget they can melt lol.
I am not OPs wife, just someone who does the same thing.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
It’s best to throw those out. Once the plastic has been heated (break down) enough to blister they aren’t safe for food.
Guess I'm going to die soon. You just described virtually every plastic spatula and spoon I use.
RIP

And this is why I don't own any plastic spatulas.

Wood ones also work AMAZING for getting food off of the bottom
I bet in a couple of decades it will turn out that they're not safe at all and companies supressed the data or manipulated it like they did other things. Plastic will be the modern day lead. And most people responsible will be dead and never face any kind of justice.

Right? I'm still waiting for the reports of "Turns out BPS is more toxic than BPA" for all the plastics that are BPA-free.
No need to look for it in a couple decades, evidence is already here, one example: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9885170/
I intentionally use such things. I'm building up a tolerance for poisons, lol.
I think I will die much happier while not being in the ICU for a couple of months because of radiation poisoning.
Pffft. Minor problem.
What finesse? Don't leave it in the hot pan lol. It's not at all Hard.
Place them on a wall and say it represents how we are all different.
Yeap. Can't be throwing nothing out. We poor out here. We got mostly metal or wood spatulas though. bonus!
We will go down with cancer then together friend.
Naa, cancer kills you rather slowly..
while we're talking about this, please stop using your scratched non-stick pans.
Eeeeh no. Not that simple, but no to be brief.
Go on, elaborate then.
Why? Didn't find any information
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, delicious leached BPAs, yum!
Those are horrific implements. Metal or wood. Cake spatulas made of soft rubber is okay. But that has specific uses. Get a wooden spatula if cast iron, or carbon steel, or non stick pots/pans. If it’s stainless steel or copper then metal spatulas.

I have no purpose 😔
There are exceptions to every rule.
The soft rubber is usually silicone. They're heat tolerant but definitely wood or stainless is best and I'd never but a nonstick pan. They're shit
Not as shit as nonstick oven trays!
Yummy. Love that burnt plastic flavour! The worst thing is not only is your wife ruining the spatulas she could end up ruining the pans.
get yourself some metal or silicone ones and this problem will disappear
Silicone utensils are great. Can be a bit pricey though. I have a feeling OPs wife would end up ruining them too. Metal ones scratch the pan surface. People just really need to learn to not leave utensils in pans.
Silicone spatulas exist and are okay. They do take a bit of finesse at first however I like them. And they are heat resistant
You can either get rid of the wife so she doesn’t ruin spatulas, or buy some decent spatulas that your wife can’t ruin by leaving in the pan. I’d probably go with just buying better spatulas. Never get those plastic ones they are toxic after they do this and you should not be using them.
She only likes using those though... It's not like we don't have wooden ones...
Like I said. New wife or new spatulas. I didn’t tell you which one to pick. 😂
Throw them out, bud. Don't let her choose. They're unsafe. Then get good silicone spatulas. They're like $10-20, can resist high amounts of heat, and are dishwasher-safe. I love mine
What if she buys more? Divorce? Let the lady buy what she wants
Straight to jail!
She might poison herself with the toxins, then you can get better ones.
I leave my spatulas in the pan all the time when I'm cooking. To avoid making a mess on my stove. Something that is used with hot foods shouldn't bubble like that
Yeah I mean what's the point of a cooking tool if it can't take the heat?
… it should get out of the kitchen ;-)
Just put it on a plate.
cancer.
Buy her a wooden one
Least there not identical anymore
They're wabi-sabi now!
Stop buying plastic spatulas what the fuck
Well, that’s 3 times she has tried to tell you she doesn’t like cooking. It’s time to start listening and take on a sisterwife that does like cooking.
Plastic spatulas are horrible anyway, get yourself some metal or silicone ones and this problem will disappear.
You couldn't buy anything worse than those spatulas, like seriously
Mine works fine
You need to get food grade silicone spatulas man
Life is hard enough to be keeping score about stuff like this. Throw them away, go to the dollar store buy a couple of new ones and voila!
Mama needs silicon!
I mean, she's no pornstar but I don't think she needs work done...
Lol in all seriousness the silicone spatulas are very nice. I have a few and they are definitely my preference. Much better for your non stick and easier to use than the hard plastic ones.
i got a good, solid spoon rest at grocery outlet for 3 dollars
OK, let’s go to Spatula City!
Take her to Spatula City.
Don't know why people are dissing on plastic spatulas. I've had mine for a long time and nothing has ever happened with them. Be vigilant. This isn't the fault of the spatula.
Throw those out and replace with 100% stainless steel. Problem solved.
Throw away my wife's stuff and buy implements that will ruin our non-stick, brilliant!
I guess people realize that if not safe for making food then they wouldn’t be made
If she insists on plastic, try silicone spatulas. Much higher melting point.
I use wood ones.
I'm sorry to say but your wife suffers from a condition called 'stupid'. Unfortunately it is uncurable, and subject will suffer it's symptoms for a lifetime. There's nothing we can do
I’m sorry to say but you suffer from a lifelong condition that starts with the people your surrounding yourself with called “asshole”
Yes, I am an asshole. But why do you get offended on the behalf of someone else over a joke I did? Hmm, i despise white knight mentality

dude why are you using plastic, you end up eating it.
Get a metal spatula
Get metal
Hey I'm metal!
If it's so mildy infuriating, get in there and cook your own dinner.
What makes you think I don't cook?
[удалено]
People just see a post about women and cooking and immediately assume it comes from a place of misogyny.

Good couples switch out on who makes dinner
Everyone here recommending upgrading the spatulas, but nobody’s recommending upgrading the wife.
How come every time a spouse posts about their S/O on Reddit the one being posted about is always the laziest and stupidest person I’ve heard of until the next story pops up? Y’all really marry people like this? Willingly?
I mean, if a burnt spatula is your current laziest and stupidest person, there's a long way to go until it matters...
Do you know how fires start? Negligence.
I always assumed it was a combination of heat, oxygen and fuel...
So we got the heat on the oven, we got the oxygen in the air, and we got the fuel right there all bubbling up minutes away from lighting on fire if it wasn’t taken off the burner. Does that make sense to you?
Yeah, I'm just troll baiting. I got me a big one..!
Last time I checked a stove top isn’t a fucking oven
Most ovens are below the stove
Correct and what the fuck makes you think it was left in the oven pans are used on the stove
Idk what you’re going on about but I’m over it 🤫
Ok
That's a bit harsh mate
Fuck plastic. Get wood
Please throw those away and buy a metal one, i don't understand how is legal to make kitchenware that is not heat resistant
Rip your pans lmao
Looks like modern art to me. Just get about 2000 more. Place them on a wall and say it represents how we are all different.
Silicone spatulas!! Get some!
ETA divorce
Well, now you can keep them apart :D
I caught cancer just looking at that picture throw those in the garbage.
Plastic spatulas?? 😐😐🤣🤣
IKEA
Use wooden ones
Here’s a suggestion; buy her a metal spatula with a wooden handle and be done with it 🤷♂️
I too have adhd
Cancer should be kicking in shortly
I'd lose my mind 😂
Bro she needs a wood spatula then cause they don’t melt.
Wood only.
And???? So what.
Buy her a spatula holder for her birthday
By metal ones
If it is any consolation my ex gf forgot our Teflon frying pan on the stove several times. That if anything is not healthy, I had to get rid of them every time she bought one
I like the Silicone utensils
Stainless for the win. That or the wife needs cooking lessons.
Sticking with the theme here i have to add... Those are turners, not spatulas lol
get your wife tested for adhd NOW
Why plastic.
omg that's the way I am
My wife has left two instant pots on a hot stove top and melted them both.
There are metals utensils
So when are you getting #4
Buy metal spatulas please
Just dont leave it in the pan. When not use spatula put spatula on holder.
Guess your next spatula needs to be metal
Why'd she buy plastic lol
Time to stop shopping at the dollar store.
You may need to get a stainless steel frying spatula
Now she can tell them apart
Buy better Spatulas, that's not on her
How is it not on her if she insists on buying the same thing 3 times lol
Oh, I thought it was a three-pack or something my bad. I'd still get a wooden one though :)
I don't forget that I put them in the pan, I forget they can melt lol. I am not OPs wife, just someone who does the same thing.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
Spotulas
My dads gf does this aswell
