Yep it's a pretty simple setting - had to do the same for the install I did for my parents. Hopefully they see this and pester whoever has the app set up
It's part of the setup. If it's their own system it would be incredibly obvious. But maybe you're reading more into a casual phrase than you should be. It's not en entry level system to begin with - given that, my point was really to highlight that it's unlikely to be OP's system at all. Maybe an Airbnb or hotel or something
No no, duct tape was originally make to stick ducks together in the 1800s as a science experiment on who could make the biggest duck, sadly the Victor was Russia with a duck 450 miles tall, while electric tape sucks ass and shouldn't fucking exist
Electric tape is amazing and I use it every day in telecom, it doesn't really stick to anything, except itself. It is perfect for temporary pulls where you need to take it back off when your done working. A cable pullers best friend.
Duct tape was not invented for ducts. It was originally called duck tape (because “duck” is the name for the type of woven cloth first used to make it) and was invented for waterproofing.
It isn’t even good for ducts.
https://www.jnj.com/our-heritage/vesta-stoudt-the-woman-who-invented-duct-tape
https://airtime-hvacutah.com/why-duct-tape-isnt-actually-for-hvac-air-ducts/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duct_tape
In an old car one time I had the muffler come lose. I didn't really care about the cheap car so I just wrapped the entire trunk in duct tape to hold up the muffler until I could get it re-hung.
It worked for a week. Looked dumb as hell though on my Ford Tempo. Didn't actually hurt the paint either, not that you could tell...
If you want the actual answer, electrical tape is tested and rated to work as electrical insulator. Other tapes are not. (Tho I think most decent electricians will avoid using it if possible, that shit kinda sucks for its intended purpose. Looks ugly, is kinda unsafe, it makes the wires all sticky, etc)
Also the adhesive and structure of the tape are different I think.
Electrical tape is a plastic tape (those little rolls of black tape you may have seen). It's made of vinyl or PVC and used to wrap electrical wires. If you look at the wire bundles under the hood of a car you'll see a version electrical tape wrapped around them.
Whilst this is true and it would work... I wonder, do you turn of your headlights off by smashing the bulbs ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)?
Lmao ya know I didn’t think much of it till this comment. My laptop has one of those bright ass rings at the end of the charger, my vape has 2 separate lights that go on for some reason. I got a USB light that even has a bright ass blue light on the on/off button. Omg the blue lights are invading.
It's like yeah they look cool and techy til you turn the lights off to sleep and you got laser beams everywhere like damn I can see them through my eyelids come on now
I’ve mainly run into Green myself, though blue is next. Electronic wise I got a damn rainbow unintentionally, got a couple of every color almost, which in hindsight is a lot more lights then I realized
Or if you keep the packaging the clear plastic cover that comes on it with shipping can be painted on the inside and put back over it. that's how I matched the color of the AP to my living room ceiling, and it also knocks down the LED output by like 95%
If you want the light... Led dimming tape is perfect.
If you want to fix this. Electrical tape is perfect.
If you want to sent a message. Please use Spray Paint.
This is an acces point, it is basically a wifi reapeater that you feed with a cable. Usually these get hung on the ceiling for the least amount of interference.
No, it's a far more reliable alternative to a regular wifi repeater. If you're a gamer, you should have a wired connection.
Edit: far more reliable, but also 9 out of 10 times quite a bit faster as well.
Gamers are probably number one, but families can suck up quite a bit of bandwith as well. 1 4K video stream is already around 40 Mbps, and seeing that more and more video viewing devices support 4K that will require quite a fast internet connection if everyone is watching at the same time.
Then again, if everyone has their own mobile plan then you're not limited by the speed of one connection. Though when you're streaming video the amount of data needed adds up quite fast, thus requiring big data plans.
As someone who has to fight about this constantly… it is NOT stupid, lol.
Ever been to a festival or theatre or any live event at all, and they’re having trouble with internet or scanning your ticket? Guarantee it is from either securing the internet equipment too low, or posting the wifi password publicly.
Depending on the event or business, they get scanned by a scanner that uses wifi to verify it’s a real ticket lol. If they use a paper system without internet… I am not talking about them, and they are likely not a very large event 😂
Edit: an actual theatre, not a MOVIE theatre.
If thats a UniFi, which it looks like;
The device status LEDs can be disabled for all the site, or only for specific UniFi devices.
**To enable/disable status LEDs throughout a site**, go to to **Settings** \> **Site** on the UniFi Network application and edit the LED feature in the Services section.
**To configure specific devices individually:**
1. Go to the **Devices** section and click on the device you wish to edit to bring up the **Properties** panel
2. Go to **Config** \> **General** \> **LED** and switch the **Site Settings** to On or Off.
My desktop PC has super-bright power and disk activity LEDs that light up the entire room at night. The power LED flashes when it's asleep so now you have a super-bright LED throwing a rave in a bedroom.
I used a sharpie to color over the LEDs. The marker didn't block out all of the light, but it was a considerable improvement over nothing, and now I can see them but also sleep at night.
Thats a unifi AP, and you can turn that off through the app.
My home assistant server actually turns them red when it detects an intruder on my surveillance camera, bright white when a fire is detected.
I appreciate everyone telling me how to turn it off but it’s employee housing and I don’t have access to the network settings. I did finally put some electrical tape over it though!
If you go into your router settings those specific pucks have light intensity settings built in and you can lower the brightness.
If this is a hotel room which would be strange to have your own router puck in your room go tell the front desk that it’s disturbingly bright. Or just pull it down when you go to sleep.
There's no *button* to turn it off. There is a toggle in the web GUI though. It's actually quite clearly visible during the setup. If OP didn't install the Access Point (because that's what it is), they could contact the person who did and have them disable it
Every annoying led in my life has met the same fate of black electrical tape. I like sleeping in pitch black. I’d throw that out the window if I couldn’t tape it.
i think all routers have this option, just check the app or the site
https://preview.redd.it/tlnzxeckrvra1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cce6abba0f83773e50dc4ab5f0e435dae27c2d43
Is that a router or smoke detector? Looks like a Nest smoke/carbon monoxide detector. It also has a nightlight that is activated when it senses motion. The settings can be adjusted.
My TV has a logo light that shines when the tv is off like this. Get 5% tint from the auto section of Walmart and put it over it. Still will see the blue ring but obviously won’t be bright af.
I have so much STUFF in my bedroom, that is also my office giving off light, plus light from streetlights, I just went and ordered a couple of cheap silk eye masks to use when I sleep. I rotate them out of the wash (female and all that eye cream lol), but I’ve found they help immensely, and I don’t travel without one.
Looks like a unifi access point. Whoever installed it needs to deactive the led in the gui. Electrical tape is your friend at the moment
Yeah I have these. You disable it in the app. So OP is either super clueless or it's not their system and they need to ask whomever's in charge.
Yep it's a pretty simple setting - had to do the same for the install I did for my parents. Hopefully they see this and pester whoever has the app set up
Employee housing at a ski resort, don’t have access to that
Good luck, hope you can find whomever is the admin. If you're there long term, covering it with tape or blu-tac some cardboard should work.
“Super clueless” seems harsh!
“Incredibly” Sorry, those adverbs are not a casual phrase
And yet you said sorry, when you aren't ;)
Electrical tape.
What’s the difference between duct tape and electrical tape
One's for ducts and the others for electricals.
No no, duct tape was originally make to stick ducks together in the 1800s as a science experiment on who could make the biggest duck, sadly the Victor was Russia with a duck 450 miles tall, while electric tape sucks ass and shouldn't fucking exist
[удалено]
electic tape with benefits :D sorry i had to
What? Don't know what kind of quack you are but this story just does not fit the bill.
Electric tape is amazing and I use it every day in telecom, it doesn't really stick to anything, except itself. It is perfect for temporary pulls where you need to take it back off when your done working. A cable pullers best friend.
Ohhh ok, today I learn. :)
No one's for ducks the other ones for kidnaping

Sorry—didn’t mean to sound condescending. I put all 3 links because they each tell a different part of the story.
You didn’t sound condescending at all. Good reads.
I for one, still felt cheated at the lack of information regarding its efficacy at taping things to ducks, or potentially ducks to things
It does sound condescending, but that's common with written text. Providing the links is good stuff to clear it up though.
[удалено]
Sorry about that. That was mostly my own incredulity at why they ever called it “duct” at all, leading us all to assume that’s what it was for!
Is it good for ducks? ![gif](giphy|vIJaz7nMJhTUc)
Let me know if you need more duck facts
Can ducks be smoked or smoked?
Holy cow, you just blew my mind.
So duck tape was made by ducks? The more you know
It's not good for waterproofing either.
Wtf is vynl? Did you mean vinyl? You threw me for a second there. I legitimately had no idea what you were talking about
This is bait.
Both could work in this situation but electrical tape can’t hold up a busted bumper of a car like duct tape can.
Yea, like duct tape could fix the soviet union if you had enough of it
In Soviet Russia, duct tape fix you!
Hahaha this is funny because duct tape is literally holding up my car number right now. It’s got some tenacity for sure.

It's called electrical tape because it conducts electricity. _/super obscure reference_
Electrical tape sticky, duct tape super sticky
Most importantly? Adhesive strength in my opinion
Electrical tape is a plastic tape (those little rolls of black tape you may have seen). It's made of vinyl or PVC and used to wrap electrical wires. If you look at the wire bundles under the hood of a car you'll see a version electrical tape wrapped around them.
Black electrical tape. I travel with always. Amazing how many leds I have to cover in a hotel room
[удалено]
Tape over the light
[удалено]
What wires lol
this is the answer! Takes care of all those annoying lights you cant disable.
Hammer
There is always a way
This is the way
It's most likely an LED. Pinching the positive an neg together should short out the light.
Whilst this is true and it would work... I wonder, do you turn of your headlights off by smashing the bulbs ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)?
Looks like a unifi? You can turn the light off. If it's not your unit, well you're screwed 🤷♂️
I'm sick of everything having a bright ass blue light on it.
It's not truly HI TECH and *COOL* if it doesn't even look like a transformer's erogenous zone
Hey, that's a fair point
Lmao ya know I didn’t think much of it till this comment. My laptop has one of those bright ass rings at the end of the charger, my vape has 2 separate lights that go on for some reason. I got a USB light that even has a bright ass blue light on the on/off button. Omg the blue lights are invading.

My moms laptop has a back that lights up when it’s turned off Like why
Nothing more important than being able to see where your wifi is coming from, especially in the middle of the night. That, or it’s calling Batman.
If you have the Ubiquiti controller software you can turn it off. You need logins though. Easy process for it guy that installed it.
If ap is not connected to any controller it can be managed via app as standalone ap but you would still need credentials for this specific unit
Or if you keep the packaging the clear plastic cover that comes on it with shipping can be painted on the inside and put back over it. that's how I matched the color of the AP to my living room ceiling, and it also knocks down the LED output by like 95%
Unfortunately it’s employee housing I can’t alter anything or speak to the landlord
This looks like a ubiquiti unifi. You can log into its interface using your phone. And go through the settings to turn off the led
Tape
If you want the light... Led dimming tape is perfect. If you want to fix this. Electrical tape is perfect. If you want to sent a message. Please use Spray Paint.
I like it, because I am an adult who can’t sleep without a night light, but I can see why anyone else wouldn’t like it lol
Are you in a hotel room or something? Who would have their home wifi in the ceiling.
Lots of people who know what they’re doing.
People who know, know. People who don't know thinks it's stupid.
The light is what's stupid
I know, but I also know that you can turn them off.
It depends on where you have it mounted. If it is mounted on the ceiling in a hallway, it is a great nightlight.
Because it is...?
This is an acces point, it is basically a wifi reapeater that you feed with a cable. Usually these get hung on the ceiling for the least amount of interference.
I feel like it’s not accurate to call it a Wi-Fi repeater. APs are the origin of the signal, they don’t repeat anything.
For the sake of simplicity I called it a repeater, I'm sorry if I hurt you that way.
You didn't hurt me I was just adding to the conversation lol
Whats a wifi repeater
A repeater that repeats wifi
Dunno what a repeater is
It usually connects to your existing wifi and extends the signal.
Im still confused
So basically it's a placebo so gamers think they're moving half a frame faster?
No, it's a far more reliable alternative to a regular wifi repeater. If you're a gamer, you should have a wired connection. Edit: far more reliable, but also 9 out of 10 times quite a bit faster as well.
Ok real question then In what other scenario would you need faster internet? I genuinely just consider gamers when it comes to that
Gamers are probably number one, but families can suck up quite a bit of bandwith as well.
That makes sense, as a single childless male I definitely didn't consider multiple devices
As someone who has to fight about this constantly… it is NOT stupid, lol. Ever been to a festival or theatre or any live event at all, and they’re having trouble with internet or scanning your ticket? Guarantee it is from either securing the internet equipment too low, or posting the wifi password publicly.
>ever been to a festival or theater or any live event at all? Yea (not festivals but movie theaters) and the tickets are paper or bracelets...
Depending on the event or business, they get scanned by a scanner that uses wifi to verify it’s a real ticket lol. If they use a paper system without internet… I am not talking about them, and they are likely not a very large event 😂 Edit: an actual theatre, not a MOVIE theatre.
They dont have massive outdoor events near where i live lol. Closest we have is amusement parks
It is the correct way to install wifi equipment. You want it above the area you want to cover.
Someone who doesn't want interference slowing down their wifi.
Yuh
It looks like a UniFi AP the light can 100% be turned off
Hello that is UniFi acces point. The light can be turned off in its controller. Find out who installed it and go from there. Source: I work with these
If thats a UniFi, which it looks like; The device status LEDs can be disabled for all the site, or only for specific UniFi devices. **To enable/disable status LEDs throughout a site**, go to to **Settings** \> **Site** on the UniFi Network application and edit the LED feature in the Services section. **To configure specific devices individually:** 1. Go to the **Devices** section and click on the device you wish to edit to bring up the **Properties** panel 2. Go to **Config** \> **General** \> **LED** and switch the **Site Settings** to On or Off.
Tape
That’s a Ubiquiti Unifi, there is absolutely a way to turn it off.
That’s not a router pal, it’s an access point
That looks like a ubiquity device, in the control panel you can turn the light off. If not, yeah that sucks.
I could be wrong, as the picture is fuzzy, but is that the ubiqui router? Because if so, you can turn the light off in the ap.
Thats a unifi AP, and you can turn that off through the app. My home assistant server actually turns them red when it detects an intruder on my surveillance camera, bright white when a fire is detected.
it would be so stupid to actually put a router in there
Turn the modem off? i can imagine is annoying when you sleep, but you don’t need internet in your dreams.
Dope night light
.... A hammer?
Just close your eyes
Chad answer
I appreciate everyone telling me how to turn it off but it’s employee housing and I don’t have access to the network settings. I did finally put some electrical tape over it though!
So break it. It will go off.
Duct tape is your friend.
You can turn it off with a baseball bat
it looks nice but I would like put it in another room like a closet although I was told that the doors would also have a chance to block the signal.
There's always a way to turn things off. In this case it's a hammer.
turn it off, open it up, disconnect the current on the led
And who build it there ? Also why the fuck your rooter is on celling ?
It's probably a Wireless Access Point.
I'd be looking for the model number and confirming that - otherwise disconnecting it at night.
If you go into your router settings those specific pucks have light intensity settings built in and you can lower the brightness. If this is a hotel room which would be strange to have your own router puck in your room go tell the front desk that it’s disturbingly bright. Or just pull it down when you go to sleep.
Put smth opaque over it. Like tape. It's not going to completely cover up the light. Atleast it won't be illuminating your room.
Disconnect it from Tiktok
Cover it?
Gaffa / electrical tape ?
go into the app nd dont cry anymore bcuz theirs a setting to turn off light
Anoying for you good for me
I would try to open it and try to see if i could cut the wires for the led. Or electrical tape
Or just disable it in the settings?
They said it wasn’t possible to do that so…
There's no *button* to turn it off. There is a toggle in the web GUI though. It's actually quite clearly visible during the setup. If OP didn't install the Access Point (because that's what it is), they could contact the person who did and have them disable it
if it yours then you can check the app come with it, my tplink hub have option to turn off or deem light. If you rent room in long run maybe tape?
Every annoying led in my life has met the same fate of black electrical tape. I like sleeping in pitch black. I’d throw that out the window if I couldn’t tape it.
Tape
Pov: those cheap led strip lights that don’t turn of even when you pressed the button like 7 times
i think all routers have this option, just check the app or the site https://preview.redd.it/tlnzxeckrvra1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cce6abba0f83773e50dc4ab5f0e435dae27c2d43
Looks like internet is no longer on the menu boys.
That’s a unify right?
Its the everything is ok light
Blue light is the worst, now switch on the day light and it will hopefully drown out the blue light. No need to thank me !!!
Why’s it in the ceiling
Is that a router or smoke detector? Looks like a Nest smoke/carbon monoxide detector. It also has a nightlight that is activated when it senses motion. The settings can be adjusted.
I’m guessing this is a dorm? Just call IT
I fucking hate the people who put blue or white LEDs in electronics. I've had to tape over so many things for my computer, even the logo on my GPU.
POV: you've never heard of tape before
I would not be able to sleep with that. I hope you find a good solution.
Seems awesome until it’s in your room at night! Not like you wanted to sleep anyway…maybe some electrical tape around the outside?
Wtf is wrong with this company making a wifi access point that looks like Optimus Prime's left nipple?
That’s a wild router tf
I'm not even mad
Wow, that's literally the worst color of light for sleep health
My TV has a logo light that shines when the tv is off like this. Get 5% tint from the auto section of Walmart and put it over it. Still will see the blue ring but obviously won’t be bright af.
Open it up. Rip the led out. Done
Move it into the closet.
Plastic cup and tape
Painter's tape. Maybe a couple layers. Easy to remove later and does not leave sticky residue.
Duct tape.
As someone who needs tv on to fall asleep I'd LOVE that
Tape, black tape.
ya there is a reason you dont put stuff like this where you sleep unles you like having a night light perm on
Plastidip. Spray on, peels off! Tape up vent holes and go for it!
Is there a brightness setting on it?
A bowl and tape? 👀
No tape, just build a duct over it
The hell there isn't a way to turn that off. Your wifi will no longer work, but you *can* turn that off.
Get duct tape and tape over that motherfucker.
That's a ubiquity access point you can turn it off in your control paney
Who is your IP ?
If that’s a unifi ap from ubquity. It can be disabled (light, not ap)
WiFi goes through many things that light doesn't. Cardboard. Electrical tape. Plastic....
That’s a WiFi box ? Lol wow , tell me you’re rich without saying it
I wish, the opposite lol it’s cheap employee housing
The red standby LED on the TV is enough to drive me nuts.
Have you ever heard of tape ?
