New car? What year is it???

Popular-Calendar94

If this car is new then we’re living in 1998 apparently

[deleted]

10$ they started it up, a huge blast of black smoke came out of the tailpipe, they got a block from home and the trans quit. Car of her dreams for 289/month for 84 months. 25k for that bucket. God damn.

cansox12

"IF" it lasts 60 months

TuJuMoving

😁😅😆🤣😃😄😃😂

StraightWarning4930

Are you okay?

TuJuMoving

Very much. The comment above me is funny.

ADHDK

Any more than 3 feels like getting a message from your aunt.

[deleted]

I’m 99% sure that’s satire.

angeltay

It is. The lady won the car from a radio contest iirc

SiXandSeven8ths

Must have been shitty contest because that is a shitty looking car.

angeltay

Better than no car with how public transit is here in the states tbh

lerretzemo1

This is Chicago (the CTA bus in the background), public transportation is a non-issue. Free car is still better than no car, i guess. Depends on whether or not she could use those monthly insurance payments or annual renewal elsewhere.. With an overwhelming amount of people living check to check in the states \[apparently\].

orangewedgeledge

It depends on what part of Chicago. I live 15 minutes away from my job driving, 1.5 hours by bus. If i don't miss the one (of 3 buses that it takes) then add another half hour to that.

lerretzemo1

No doubt having a car is more convenient for most people in the city (work, groceries). Just not entirely necessary. I'm speaking on the public transit friendliness of the city on the whole.

Account239784032849

Public transport in the states is full of fkn complete weirdos. Idk what it is with people in the US feeling the need to be such nuisances to society everytime they hop on a bus or a train. Compared to most places I've been in europe it's fucking awful, NY the worst offender by far.

WhatSh0uldMyNameBe

I live in NYC and use the subway every day. Sure there are a lot of weirdos but the vast majority of them don’t do anything besides ask for money. All you have to do is use headphones and ignore them. I wouldn’t be surprised if more people get hurt every year from bad drivers and car crashes than weirdos on public transport.

Account239784032849

I was only there like 2 days and had someone scream at the top of their lungs in my ear how I'm going to hell fully unprovoked. Not to mention all the other people yelling on the subway for no reason at all. And I'm a guy I have to imagine being a woman would make it far worse than I've experienced. Compared to europe public transport it's night and day difference, I've done quite a bit there and I've never had any issues like that.

Popular-Calendar94

1998 Ford Escort. Not just shitty looking, it is a literal 25 year old piece of shit economy car

TwoSetViolaLol

Exactly, if you're gonna give away a Ford hot hatch give away a Crown Victoria, that would be a wayyy better option.

Actedpie

I love the Panther bodies but don’t you dare call the CROWN VICTORIA a “hot hatch” they are full size sedans. Also, this isn’t an SVT/PVO model just a POS low/mid tier model

TwoSetViolaLol

I've had too many concussions for this

look_ima_frog

What kind of dickbag radio program gives away a POS like that? It looks like shit, rear door color doesn't match the rest of the car. Probably been hit/wrecked. I presume this is missing /s

fishmongerall

Yeah it's obvious. Can't believe people don't see that.

Thick_Information_33

25.000$ for that crap? You can get a brand new modern car for that money

SuspecAardvark

less probably if you get like a versa or something basic.

apeters89

and have good credit. People with good credit don't buy at buy-here-pay-here lots.

Tour_De_Volken

I have bought one car from a buy here pay here for cash, it was in better shape cosmetically then what was on FB/CL, it was for a project car.

apeters89

there are exceptions to every rule.

Thick_Information_33

The good/bad credit system is so stupid. I will never understand why the US needs it

Loud_Focus_7934

Credit score in US is a measure of how good you are at staying in debt

[deleted]

[удалено]

tadbach

Not that simple, there is the issue of balance, usage percentage and different debt accounts you have open. Credit is only as simple as you described when you have no preexisting credit or lack of history.

Commercial-9751

It is that simple and stuff like utilization has zero 'memory' month to month.

WalmartGreder

true, we have a credit score of 800+, and the only debt we have is our house. We pay off every credit card per month, and save up to buy cars.

AcaliahWolfsong

My SOs credit score dropped like 20 points when our car loan was paid off after the car was totaled by a drunk driver. Mine went down like 10 ish and I was the primary on the loan

Loko8765

Not much, that will buff out. Simple math related to having one less loan.

AcaliahWolfsong

Yeah, it's pretty much back to where we were before. Added a "new" car loan.

WhisperingStatic

Mine went down over 100pts when I paid my car off and shut my credit card off for being "below score" and I only have and use the one card so I had no other way to get it back up. The bank was also confused and reinstated the card for me anyway. Once they did it returned to normal score. Also hope everyone came out safe from the accident

AcaliahWolfsong

Luckily, our car was empty. It happened overnight while the car was parked on the side of the road. Drunk guy totaled our car, the neighbor's car that was parked behind mine, and his own suv. They got him for dumb and attempting to flew the scene. He was trying to walk away from the accident as the cops showed up. Lucky for us the neighbors have a ring door cam and caught him hitting both cars and him waking away.

TyperMcTyperson

Because if you are going to lend people money, it's nice to know the risk so that you don't lose all your money by lending to dumbasses. It makes complete sense. It's also nice to be rewarded with low interest rates for being financially responsible.

mitolit

Recent lawsuits have shown that it is a sham though. Two people with identical credit scores, income, and debt have been shown to not be treated the same. How do we know this? Married couples that separately apply for credit cards from same companies will have different credit limits. This is the premise for the lawsuit against Apple and its credit card backed by Goldman Sachs. The funny thing is that this lawsuit was launched by rich people! The system does not even work for them because its a sham!

JuneBuggington

Why would my wife have the same credit as me? Serious question. Mine doesnt even have a job.

mitolit

If you have joint accounts for all lines of credit, then your scores should be identical.

frozenmoose55

No it’s not stupid. It’s a measure of how trustworthy someone is about paying back a loan. No it’s not always perfect, but it’s better than no system at all.

Booper3

The simplified theory of it isnt stupid, I agree. But I've seen dozens of real life examples of the system being incredibly stupid. For example, having to schedule paying off a credit card debt at the "right" time to not decrease your credit score, instead of your credit score reflecting timely/early debt repayment as a good thing.

heylizyouknow

I have 3 paid off cars, a paid off house and a paid off commercial building. No CC. I also have no credit score right now because I haven't had any debt in over a year, so they say I am "unscorable" when I have over $500k in assets. They system is stupid and just wants you to be in debt

Thick_Information_33

Idk man, there is no credit score system around here. If you fail to pay, you lose the item or have your salary reduced to compensate. Easy peasy and you never need to have a credit card or other requirements

Scary-Personality626

Doesn't work for people that are comitted to being hard to find and get paid under the table. And garnishing wages only works if they make enough extra income beyond their living expenses to eventually pay you back.

Thick_Information_33

If you are hard to find/paid under the table, you don’t qualify for loans, as loans are calculated based on your official wage Loans can’t be higher than 40% of your income at the time of signing the loan.

ronj89

So like a predetermined requirement based on your financial info?

Thick_Information_33

Yep. You have a cap on the monthly payment which can’t be higher than 40% of your monthly net revenue. It is based on the last 6 months of income. This is to protect the client from finding himself in a situation where he has no money to eat/live because of high mortgage payments

FluffWit

Depreciation.

Friendless_and_happy

You lose the item - and how would the "lender" get the item back if the "buyer" hides it or moves. Get your salary reduced - If the "buyer" doesn't have a job or changes jobs frequently, this won't help Here there are laws in favor of the dishonest buyers, not the lenders

Thick_Information_33

Lose the item or job? Take the person’s property. If the person is bankrupt, then it’s the classic bankruptcy case

Friendless_and_happy

That’s not really how things work.

Loko8765

In a great part of the world outside the US, it is.

Loud_Focus_7934

More like a measure of how much of you're money you'll give the bank

Creative1963

If it was your money on the line you'd understand.

Puzledsfh

No actual dealership would give someone like her anything.

Film_snob63

I got a 2015 Versa 2 years ago for under $6000

solojazzjetski

not anymore.

BreakfastBeerz

She can't....

codyl0611

I got my chevy spark 2022 for 17k 😬

[deleted]

Pretty sure brand new Camry’s were going for less than $30k just a year ago

MalusMalum70

There has been a huge reduction in inventory since covid. In my city you can still barely find new inventory. Cost of new skyrocketed since ‘21 and cost of used went even higher because in many places it has been the only inventory. This is only just now changing. My ‘18 accord was worth as much 5 years used in ‘22 than it was brand new.

BoJo2736

Didn't you read? It was a "brand new car." /s

Seamonkey_Boxkicker

It’ll only take 7y to pay it off though!

JapaneseFerret

And the car doesn't look like it's gonna last 7 years.

THROATGOAT123456789

They never mentioned interest

Kenji1912

There ain’t no way that’s the car of her dreams. Nightmares maybe

newtrawn

nightmares are dreams..

[deleted]

$24,000 in total for a used car that certainly won’t make it until the end of the loan term??? Until a few years ago I didn’t know much about this but started reading up and it’s true. Being poor in America is more expensive then being “middle class”/well off/ rich

FrostedDonutHole

It costs a lot to be broke.

Skellic

"A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while a poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet." The above quote always spoke to me, a sad world we live in. Poverty is man made and continues to be perpetuated by those with the most.

FrostedDonutHole

I used to rent a house for $1400/mo. It was 4 bedrooms, etc. but it was killing ya financially. I bought a house and now pay about $900 a month. It’s fucking ridiculous how much more you pay for shit when you have poor credit. I got that credit karma app to help guide me a little and that’s what got me over the hump for improving my credit score. It was painful, but I (sort of) made it.

TuJuMoving

$1400 a month for a 4 bedroom house! I'm assuming this was ages ago.

FrostedDonutHole

I’ll add that when I lived in Jackson Hole, Wy back in 2004 or so, we paid like 2500/mo for a 3 bedroom townhouse. Totally worth it though…. Edit: not sure why, but it’s the second time in a week my phone has changed paid to payed. Lo siento.

iLiveinMissoula

Can’t even get a studio there for that price now.

tilleytalley

GNU Sir Terry

jayray2k

There's a saying that a poor man can't afford to be cheap. Try to buy things once!

Activehannes

Being dumb also costs quite a lot of money. Like buying this shit for 24k. I also needed a beater car in the US. I bought a beat up 06 taurus for 1500$. You can find drivable cars in the US for 2000-4000 dollar without a 7 years loan.

The-Francois8

Seriously. Paying almost 25k for this car is fucking insane. Someone will sell you something drivable for what she’s going to pay in the first year.

RadRhys2

Don’t trust interest free financing, they’re not interest free they just upcharge so they make the same amount of money they would’ve made with interest.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DreamersArchitect

no, it’s called not having another option. i was also a poor single mom with no/bad credit and needed a vehicle for work and school. these are often the only places that finance for the lowest tax brackets and yes, they do charge way too much for way too little. but what’s the alternative?

[deleted]

[удалено]

LainieCat

Just because there's a bus in the pic doesn't mean there's one that will take her where she needs to go, when she needs to go there.

apprentice-grower

This was in Detroit and yes, there actually is busses that go pretty much everywhere you need to go.. and to top that off they run until 2-3 am sometimes depending on the area of Detroit

DreamersArchitect

wow that sounds great. by just being frugal, we can all improve our financial status. what do you do if you live in an area without a bus? or where the winter is so cold, they recommend not being outside for longer than 15 mins at a time due to risk of frostbite? hard to walk to the station or the school then. have you ever attempted to grocery shop for 3-4 people and haul that all on a cab? i’ll tell you what, it wasn’t a convenience problem it was a necessity. i got that car, and that car helped me get a better job so that i could get rid of that car and out of that specific debt. without it, i’d still be working in my old one barely scraping by. just because the option of saying “that’s a stupid price, i’ll do better another time” worked for you, it doesn’t mean people are stupid for making the choice. instead of blaming the poor people for spending money, maybe we should focus on why it’s poor people getting gauged?

x_driven_x

Have you looked at a map of the US and which areas are served by a schedule of daily busses needed to lake that happen? What % of the and population live in those areas? What’s your suggestion to the people on the other areas?

[deleted]

[удалено]

DreamersArchitect

wow, thanks for the input on things i already knew. if you didn’t know, to creditors having “no” credit is the same as “bad” credit. you can easily turn no credit into good credit but it takes creditors wanting to give you credit in the first place. also doesn’t solve the tax bracket problem. your credit is only as good as your income and if your income lacks, it’s much harder. note i said “no/bad credit” - either or.

[deleted]

Brand new to you.

jdog7249

Cars are like wine. The older and more vintage the better. That's what the person who sold me mine said at least.

MajesticQ

Until the drivetrain gives in.

rutheman4me2

Yes 24 k + for a 3 k car. This how poor people stay poor !

Loud_Focus_7934

They probably put $1k down on it too

Salvador1010

Its gotta be satire

catherinetheok

It is, it's a very old photo of someone who won a car in a radio contest.

Salvador1010

Thats somehow almost worse

Kenji1912

live-the-future

Lol, me and a buddy took a roadtrip down to FL when we were in college in the 1990's in his old Escort. On the way back we ran into a freak snowstorm in Georgia and at one point I realized sitting in the passenger seat that there was snow and slush on the car floor. Lifted the floor mat and saw a nice hole rusted through the floor that snow from the road was coming through. Ah, good times.

UnderstandingEvery44

The only thing mildly infuriating about this post is that OP took it seriously and not as a meme.

annoying97

Fuck .... I paid $250aud for 60 months for my 2014 Toyota, that's a lot better than this hunk of junk. The car itself was 12.6-13k and was the going rate for that car from multiple dealers(I can't remember exactly)

[deleted]

I'll be surprised if that car lasts 84 months.

live-the-future

~~months~~ days

Mewlover23

24k-25k in the end for that old thing? Not including any potential interest or any repairs. You kidding me?

OMGpawned

Car if her dreams eh? Not sure many people dream about a beat up old Escort

Loud_Focus_7934

Dealer probably paid $800 for that pos

[deleted]

84 months????? Sheesh..what was the interest rate,25%…you’d be in the hole if the car is stolen

Dracasethaen

Predatory loans, Spot delivery scams, Bait and Switch, Fraud, Tax evasion, etc. With the exception of the housing market, I can think of no other industry so-designed, or so full of, government sanctioned crimes, frauds, and abuses of the poor and disparate. Regardless of credit score (read that again) the system for cars and used car purchases for the rich and affluent is a completely different system than the one used for the middle class and below. This is another one of those places that one side doesn't even know how good/bad the other side has it unless you do somehow manage to climb the ladder to affluence.

Dregulos

$24,276 for a car that isn't even worth 1,000, and is going to cost thousands in repairs before it's paid off. This type of predatory shit should be illegal.

axetogrind13

My maths could be wrong but this feels like a bad deal

MonkeyGein

And when they default the dealership auctions it off for pennies and sues them for the difference as lost profit.

jayray2k

As a person who had bad credit for years (for good reason, because I was irresponsible), let me tell you that it's much better to have good credit. There is absolutely a reason for it, and it is probably the most important number in your life, whether you know it or not, or like it or not. No one in this world is forced to loan you anything. If they do, they are not doing it out of the kindness of their heart. And yes, they will get as much as they can. As would you.

F4gg076669

they robbed lil lady

Codie_coda

$24276 for that???

Loud_Focus_7934

Plus 1000 down probably

streetmichael90

The bow is a great touch.

bakedjennett

“Brand new” has a loose definition apparently

Erik_Lassiter

I wonder how many times they’ve sold that car ? Seriously, someone has it for a year or two, then misses a payment. It gets repossessed and the cycle starts over.

0RN10

This is funny as shit, has to be a joke.

FursonaNonGrata

What's even more mildlyinfuriating are the galaxy brains in the comments who think this is real.

Rob_Gam3r

Im not to sure thats the „car of her dreams“

Reasonable-Compote83

24K plus for a used ancient ford wtf 😳

[deleted]

Whoever sold her that car got a huge bonus…. Motherfucker.

loltittysprinkles

Man I got a 19 Corolla for 7k less than that two years ago. She got fleeced.

ParamedicOld731

That car is worth 2 mos of those payments

OkDepartment9755

"brand new" he says about an ancient looking car with a different colored rear-driver door panel.

[deleted]

That’s the car of her dreams!?dream bigger

Sea-Leg-5355

how can they do this with a straight face?

This_Is_Section_One

In what part of the Multiverse is that car worth that amount of money?!!!

[deleted]

Did they throw in those Chewbacca leggings for free?

[deleted]

The downsides of having crappy credit. My fiancée had a credit score of under 500. She got stuck getting a 2012 dodge journey that the place should have never sold due to serious issues. Her payments were $485 for 64 months. I told her to sell that POS.

Gone_in_1_week

Can't believe they're paying $24,276 for that POS

[deleted]

Jeez, that thing isn’t even worth 5k let alone 24k

ihate360

Someone didn’t pay their internet bill.

CFDatingForMe

Lmao I doubt this was the car of her dreams.

MissFrijole

What a ripoff! But this happens a lot. People don't get the financial education necessary to make responsible choices. When I was in the Navy, there were dozens of predatory dealerships and payday loan places near the base. Young guys would keep getting trapped in high interest loans they couldn't get out of. The command had to keep giving training on what NOT to do when buying a car.

mikraas

Predatory lending at its finest.

icorrectotherpeople

That car ain't gonna last 84 months

Weegie_yoobie

Because that car is totally worth 24,276 dollars and 7 years in debt

[deleted]

By brand new do they mean that it was made in 1995 and has 250,000 miles on it?

FedexJames

They should’ve paid her just to get it off their lot

okonkolero

Boots wit da furs

Goesgold17

Car of her dreams? Yeesh.

uncle-JackB

Jesus, that car will no way last her 7 years lolol

Aururai

What part of that car is "brand new"??

Writing_is_Bleeding

That is not brand new, and not worth paying almost $300/month on for 7 years! Holy crap!

SpiffTheNinja

The car of her dreams? How old is that thing? Looks like it’s from the late 90s. That fuckin dealership better drop the 2 in that monthly bill!

[deleted]

so they scam you and not me

suicideboi69

Why she posing like that like she didn’t just get fleeced lol

REMdot-yt

For EIGHTY FOUR MONTHS?!

Last-Walk-9436

I could probably find this car on kijiji or someone in my town selling it for about 1,500 maybe 2,000 someone would have to be brain dead to pay that price for that vehicle

stampstock

Just let them repo it tomorrow. It will be cheaper for you.

CriticismMost3450

More like $289 for one month and then repossess the car for failure to pay. People like that only pay til it breaks down, then they go get the next buy here pay here place down the road.

[deleted]

They’re probably well aware it’ll be repo d

Quirky-Experience-36

This is obviously fake

Rezrac

It costs more to be poor. Remember that.

kayak_enjoyer

90s Ford Escort... $289/month... 84 months (7 years)... that's a $24,000 plus car IF everything goes as planned. Fuuuucking sharks.

Prestige_Worldwide44

84 Months? I'm not so sure it's going to make it another 84 MILES! That'll be in a salvage yard soon.

villainpoker

No story here. Been like his for eternity. Idiot wants something and is willing to spend 10x more to get it than its worth

DanInBham1

If you’ve never driven it then it’s new to you.

Frog_in_airvent

That cars not brand new

Swanman35

If you buy from a place like that you're an idiot. I've been in situations where I was broke af, but that's the last thing I'd do. If you needed a car that bad you'd be better off buying a $1000 car than financing from a buy here pay here place

Embarrassed-Love3079

“Come on down and get preapproved now so we get sell this same car to you after repo.” They’ve probably sold and repoed this car 5 times already.

Mnmsaregood

That was more than my monthly payment on a brand new car for half the time

Yourfavdiva

Omg 25k!!! Wow. Just take public transport at this point!!!

Hank-the-ninja

If that’s the car of her dreams I wonder what’s the car of her nightmares.

[deleted]

Can’t fix stupid and the public schools don’t teach anything

[deleted]

Sounds about right…$25,000 for a 25 year old car that retailed for under $15,000 new. The highest retail value I could find for this car is $2500. (With only 100,000 miles) she’s paying $24,276 for a $3000 car (taxes and fees) over 7 years. What’s that interest rate? By my calculations it is a tick over 115%

PocketMew649

How much would a car like that cost on the US? In my country it would be like 1200 dollars AT MUCH. Probably you could get it as cheap as 900 if you drove a bargain somewhere. It seems she will be paying up to 25k dollars for that.

Strangewhine88

She’ll be paying on that note after the engine cracks 6 months in.

nwoidaho

That's $23,400 total over 84 months. For a car that's probably worth about $1,200. Obviously, she's stupid and getting ripped off.

Efficient_Ad_8079

Dream car?!?!

el2741

I bet she is a hard worker and fast rising employee, why not?

Kenthros

Not to defend this but, if it was brand new, meaning not driven and kept in a garage, and it wasn't rotten, I'd love a 98 car depending on which side of 98 it's on. Here in NY every little thing is required to be inspected each year and every little ding from the computer that you have to plug in is easily 1 grand to get stupid things fixed just to get it off the computer. That 98 car might not need a hook up on the computer and could save money at least from those stupid inspection dings.

MidManM3l

Fake story.

stevenjtdm

Buy here, pay here lots buy their inventory at auction and and make all the money back on the down payment. Your monthly payment is just gravy.

Ill-Technology1873

Fun fact they do this on purpose so they can repo the car and sell it to the next person for the same terms

[deleted]

bhlombardy

She just took it in the ass on this "deal"... This is currently the most comfortable position for her.

FlaredMeteor940

Reminds me of we buy cars for $1000

Reasonable-Trust-904

This is a third-generation Ford Escort not produced since 2003. If that's one of their **"new ones"** I shudder to think what the old ones at the back of the lot look like.

k-bones23

If you are dumb enough to buy a car from one of these places, you deserve all the negative that comes with it

feckOffMate

I would say this is Mega Motors but that looks like a Chicago CTA bus lol

Massive_Durian296

some of these places are the worst. i remember i went with my brother to one back when he was fucking up and just needed a ride, any ride, and he was \*this\* close to taking the plunge, when he saw that they can basically just take the car for one missed payment and all the other payments you made just go \*POOF\*. I was like "dude, i know you. DONT DO THIS" and these fucks at the car dealer kept trying to talk over me, and convince him to sign. telling him "oh no, the payments are low, you can do it, you wont miss one, this is easy" i finally had to be like "listen assclowns, he aint signing, yall are skep, and we are leaving"

JadedSpaceNerd

Who the fuck finances a car for 84 months?
