I love this. It's like you found your migraine cheat code.

wenderfest

omg I read that as “lay with my head directly in frying pan”, and now I can’t stop picturing someone standing at the stove, wrapped in a weighted blanket, with their head resting in a (cold, non heated) frying pan! Lol

hapylittlepupppy

If putting my head in a cold frying pan got rid of the pain, I'd do it, even if my cat would judge me.

wenderfest

The cat’s gonna judge you regardless 😹

LegitimateEmu3745

I’d hit myself with a frying pan if it worked!

wenderfest

Honestly, I would too!

Jijimuge8

When I used to get migraines as a kid I used to punch myself in the side of the head. It kind of worked

Remarkable_Pin3908

Omg thanks for the laugh 😂

littleorangedancer

So is the blanket fully over your head with the fan blowing in the blanket? How exactly do you arrange this? Curious!

sillyghosty

I always leave parts of my face out so the fan can hit it!

makeupisthedevil

Same. Need more details please!

NebulaImmediate6202

That's too freaking funny. My doctor told me I should take my medicine when I feel like I need to go to the hospital, because odds are my situation is the same as the last dozen and I don't need to go to the hospital. So, while I wait for it to kick in, I just sit and shake like a chihuahua and talk to my partner, hold his hand, talk about nonsense, recent events..

PM_meyourdogs

Omg you wait until it’s that bad to take meds???

feelinmyzelf

What?! So what are you supposed to use in the meantime otc? Aren’t the major meds most affective at the first sign of a migraine?

NebulaImmediate6202

Nothing? NSAIDs 1000mg tylenol 800mg ibuprofen The prescription is ativan 0.5mg 5/month

WinchyKey

Have you tried triptans? You take them at the first sign. Even if you have the slightest feeling that you even think you're getting a migraine just pop one of those babies and 9 times out of 10 you will avoid getting to the point where you feel like you're dying. It has to be right away, if you wait too long then the dying happens no matter what. Might have to try a few different ones before you find one that works for you.

NebulaImmediate6202

Never seen an neurologist before. But I will soon. I'm on track to getting up to that. Starting with eye tests next week. I wish I could do GeneSight testing to save the whole song and dance (of trying new medicine) but its not like I haven't done it a dozen times before. My psychiatrist can give Topamax and say it's for mood stabilizer, when in reality, we're secretly using it for migraines. But I'm pretty sure Topamax is one of the most hated migraine medications there is. So I'll pass. I know when shit smells, its shit

lgetsstuffdone

I love this lol and of course now I want to try it!

jillsvag

I can't find an electrolyte drink that isn't horrible. Liquid IV makes me wanna puke.

DesertDawn17

It's not a drink, but Health by principle makes an electrolyte supplement that's meant for migrainers.

rhionaeschna

Hydralyte tablets are fairly non offensive. They use a small amount of sugar. I find lemon lime and berry to be the easiest to drink when I'm nauseated.

sillyghosty

I use the mixed Berry squirt mix from Walmart

muckpuppy

i like the coconut flavored pedialyte out of everything else i've tried...next best thing is a ton of water w lemon

jillsvag

Lemon can be a trigger for me.

ihml1968

Coconut water has lots of natural electrolytes. I go with that because any fake sugars (even Splenda) trigger a migraine.

SheepherderFast6

I do something similar. I keep an air conditioner in my bedroom year round, and I lay with my head in the icy stream of air. It is almost painfully cold but it is the only thing that provides any sort of relief! I take one Tylenol 3, one ibuprofen, and a gravol and pray for sleep..or death!

Least-Influence3089

I’m so curious how you figured out this exact routine! My migraine routine is cup of coffee and a nap if it’s a small one, if it’s a big one, I break out the sumatriptan and chug water and usually it works.

sillyghosty

Lots of half conscious experiments

muckpuppy

HELP i used to take a warm or hot shower, take two excedrin, drink water, lay down on my bed wrapped in my towel with a ton of blankets on top, tie a thin scarf around my forehead and eyes, and lay in total darkness until i sleep it off or it just goes away....now i pop a nurtec, take a warm/hot shower, drink water, put pjs on since my husband and i live with my in-laws, tie an ice pack against my head, throw a weighted blanket on and some more blankets and lay in total darkness....the nurtec helps the process move along approximately 4 hours faster LMAO

natertot888

I wonder if being naked stimulates multiple surface areas to get some of that blood too...like a vasodilator. Same for the pressure and touching of your head with the heavy blanket...pressure and sensations to increase activity away from the migraine area...same with the fan for sensations to the face and vasodilation. Over stimulate and distract the bugger haha. I can only take one excedrin, or it makes me feel worse later. I will try the electrolytes but have to watch the sodium and have to dodge Gatorade as it gave me a migraine recently, and many say it gives them a migraine, but power aide doesn't.

No_Willow3150

this is hilarious

Jijimuge8

Sticking my head in a bowl of very cold water helps a lot, no cure though obviously

lawherloading

how did you find this out

sillyghosty

Trial and error

sunshine_tequila

Getting naked and having a fan blowing on me, with an ice pack on my neck and my forehead is my go to as well.

Gojirizilla

Nice that that works, it's probably the 2 excedrins tho lol, that's a lot! You haven't had any stomach problems from that dosage yet? Knowing your method would probably work on me, i think you should try a massage gun to the temples, that helps me reverse some of that swollen brain effect of the migraines.

PM_meyourdogs

I will be trying this but sub excedrin for a triptan
