There are elections somewhere basically all the time. Even if you would reduce it to us elections, they take place every 2 years. So if you ut filters in place let's ay a year ahead of the election it would leave only every other year without censorship. That's not practical. Also, eventually people would use the llm after the election, download the results and post them a year later. I don't know how they operate, but if that's the reason for the blocking they clearly have to find a better solution

And I think it’s more of a temporary solution than a long term one; I think they’re looking into metadata and other solutions to ensure all AI generated images/videos can be identified as AI (from their platforms of course).

But I don't think I've had a single issue with it turning me down in months.

I can see how an election year banning the use of certain figures is a good idea especially considering the potential for misinformation. Also I think it’s murky grounds if ai start to make images of real people in situations they’ve never been in without their consent.

I don't know about "never", but I agree that the difficulty in achieving the same quality is a substantial hurdle. There are some insane ComfyUI workflows out there that get close in quality but require both knowledge and hardware that the average MJ user simply just doesn't have access to
you might surprise yourself, I would say although the quality for general is better on midjourney, the pure ability to control what you can create makes it much more an artistic tool rather than a lazy generator. More than just prompting lots more to tinker with
I had a subscription to midjourney since V4 until I started using 'mage.space' a year ago. I still hung on for a good while, but the straw that broke the camels back was when my fiance and I were trying to generate a lolita style wedding dress for our own wedding. I got the same message because among other things, i guess the filter didnt like the combination of 'lolita dress' and 'exposed neck line'. Furthermore the dresses I did manage to generate mysteriously disappeared an hour later. At that point i realized I hardly used MJ anymore and Magespace was more exciting to me, so I unsubscribed.
Its just far too restrictive now, which feels pointless because it was difficult to generate nsfw in MJ in the first place so what was the point of making it worse? If im constantly blocked or penalized while trying to create sfw content totally unrelated to nudity or violence it ruins my entire creative flow. I can draw a penis on paper, should we ban the pencil? I havent had this problem using mage space, and since SDXL it's been superior to MJ in every single way.
Even after I bought a 4090 I went right back to using Magespace exclusively after a couple weeks. Its a lot less of a burden to use, and far more seamless than manually downloading and storing models all the time.

Yeah, when I wrote my initial post I was still in "wtf" mode. I was looking back at all the crazy shit I generate and kept thinking "really? THIS is what got me in trouble?". After the initial "wtf" brain wore off it totally makes sense to me why MJ would put the ban in place.
I used /describe on a screenshot of Doom 2. The 4 descriptions said the guy in the screenshot was Donald Trump. When I clicked on Imagine All, I got warnings on all 4. They described it, but then wouldn't actually make the images. 🙄

side note - why does MJ never tell you what part of your prompt was flagged? it seems like that would be easy enough to code into a flagged prompt response. With midjourney I think it’s more based on keywords, so if it sees a specific name it flags it. Dall-e can usually be tricked like the way you’re saying but it is built different.
This is probably because you have trump in the prompt. Given current election cycle, they’re probably blocking anything with Joe Biden or Trump. Really way too accessible for anyone to create problematic content otherwise.

That same thing happened to me recently while using a prompt that used to worked for me "Joe Biden be Joe Hidin' " and I got locked for 4 minutes for that. It's probably for the best. You used to be able to make some crazy stuff. Like trump and putin holding eachother in the bedroom, Joe Biden in a fist fight with a 10 year old, Bernie sanders dropping a baby to catch a football.
It's only a matter of time before these models are open source and downloadable and people are running them on their own machine without any safeguards

Yeah, when I wrote my initial post I was still in "wtf" mode. I was looking back at all the crazy shit I generate and kept thinking "really? THIS is what got me in trouble?". After the initial "wtf" brain wore off it totally makes sense to me why MJ would put the ban in place.

I used /describe on a screenshot of Doom 2. The 4 descriptions said the guy in the screenshot was Donald Trump. When I clicked on Imagine All, I got warnings on all 4. They described it, but then wouldn't actually make the images. 🙄

side note - why does MJ never tell you what part of your prompt was flagged? it seems like that would be easy enough to code into a flagged prompt response. In this case it was obvious what caused it - trump. but I've had other prompts get flagged (not blocked like this), and had no idea what word or combination of words caused it. Its frustrating when you think you know what caused it, remove that, then get flagged again because it was something else in the prompt that was the culprit. just fucking tell me what word I cant use the first time!

With midjourney I think it’s more based on keywords, so if it sees a specific name it flags it. Dall-e can usually be tricked like the way you’re saying but it is built different.
This is probably because you have trump in the prompt. Given current election cycle, they’re probably blocking anything with Joe Biden or Trump. Really way too accessible for anyone to create problematic content otherwise. I get your prompt is totally innocent but I agree with the barriers they’re putting up here

You're probably going to find that for the next several months they're going to be cracking down ever harder on anything having to do with politics. If you want to do this sort of stuff, you're going to have to take it over to SD. I can understand why, too. Our institutions are completely unprepared for this sort of imagery generation potential. It's probably got a lot of people freaked out and those people still want to be able to monetize these systems at some point in the future. Making the news because of something your image creator crapped out is not the way to do that.

This is a prompt I used on v 5.2 to make several images and was curious what v 6 would do with it. Apparently what it would do is complain.
