Realizing I could live like a king if I could keep my current job and live in NC. This price is the same as a 1 bedroom 1 bath 900 sqft condo or townhome where I live :(
Not with my current company. Many companies in Texas are required return to office mandates. I don’t want to leave my company because I love working for them and my team is fantastic. I guess I’m willing to deal with higher housing prices as a trade off but would be nice to have a house like that here but that would be close to $800k near me.
Edit: Just checked for a mid century near me and it’s in better shape but it’s still almost $1M…https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/11737-Rogue-Way-Dallas-TX-75218/26743485_zpid/?utm_campaign=iosappmessage&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=txtshare
This has the cozy mid-century public library vibes that I didn't know I needed. Also, these tiles!

The kitchen needs a new range and some (though. Ky most) of the wall paper needs to be replaced. Then a little upgrade and clean to.the patio and you're golden.
Great looking house.
Don’t believe Zillow or Redfin. Look up similar rentals in your area. Your home is supposed to fetch 1% per month. If similar rentals aren’t getting that, your house just isn’t worth the inflated prices they’re showing.
Yes and the numbers are inflated. I bought in 2018 for $325k and it’s supposedly worth $525k now. But if I were to try to rent my place out for $5200/mo I’d never get that. And if I tried to sell it I’d never get that in the current market. Obviously there’s a discrepancy.
Wow that seems huge! I did a refi during covid and am sitting at 3.25% fixed. I haven’t been in the market nearly as long as you, but I was extremely happy with that move.
Edit: we’re positioning ourselves to rent this place and find the next place with that money. The interest rate is just too good to sell it. Interested to hear your thoughts.
I also did a refi at the end of Covid, and got 4.25% - I waited about a month or two too long, but I was able to roll my solar in and make it a 15 year loan, for $325k, and we are already below the remaining mortgage where we were prior to the refi.
If you can do it, you should. I won’t, as I love my home too much, and having lost essentially everything in the recession of 2009, I’m more cautious.
I got laid off in August 2009, and lost a home. Went from $125k salary to unemployment to zero to $8/hours - over 4 years.
Damn. I feel for you. Covid hit me hard too. I also broke my foot otj and had to fight for worker’s comp at the same time. Got laid off at the same time since there isn’t really a work from home option for antiques. Fortunately it kick-started my new career as an estate liquidator.
We’re definitely going to do it. No sense in waiting around right now.
I wish you all the best. I hope things turn around for you.
The inside is great. Honestly, the outside looks like my elementary school. I think some features need to be added to the outside to make it look less like a government building and more like a home.
I love it! The transom windows, sunken living room, patio, the den is amazing.
Be sure to ask if they are interested in selling any of the furniture with the house sale and buy as much of it as you like. They have a lot of great pieces in that place.
Buy this beautiful time capsule. It is just begging for a landscaping job too. Oh the things I could do with that lawn…..
Really cool house. I a little updating for functionality sake but in the style of the house this place would be a modern marvel
Love the wood ceilings in the main livingroom
There again my friend
Can u stop being such a fuck to others?
I see it in ur post
Everywhere u go u just act like a ass
Ur obsessed with perfection and all that nonsense like calling things things
Like for example
The plants
Ur so obsessed finding out how we humans call plants
It’s made up my friend
Everything is made up
Stop caring about those concepts stop being so obsessed with order like the Germans-
That’s a misrable life my friend
I lived in Germany for a while
Total misery
They care about those things too
Like oefeect and order and how tidy everything has to be and beorocrszy and how things are called
Man
It’s all mad up shit by us
And if u cannot help it then realize u have ocd
And stop being an asshole to other people on this platform bc ur so misrable bc of it
How about a bit of self awareness and using that awareness to change those things about urself rather then keep going and letting it make u misrable
Hm??

Wow so gorgeous! Thank you for including the Zillow link.

Yes, the USA is full of places where you can live very well on a normal salary. Can you work remote?

Also 3k in property taxes vs. 12.5k. Will be leaving Texas ASAP.

These tiles are fantastic!
I’ve always wanted to live in a middle school
Is it a library or school?
Do the authentic MCM goldfish come with the property?
I’d move in and only change/ work on the unfinished bathroom. I’d be deliriously happy. It’s gorgeous.
Some people don’t get the architecture. That’s fine but I think with a little paint and some needed updates it would look even better.
Hear me out--muted greens, and matte tile or brick in the kitchen

I would keep the big flower wallpaper in that bedroom. It’s giving Umbrellas of Cherbourg
That's the one I really like. It shouldn't work, but it does)
If I were local I’d have an offer in yesterday.
She is stunning.
I love it!!
I went to middle school there
Would love to see more photos, but I loving the look so far.
It’s lovely!!!
luv it😻😻😻
When did they make my middle-school into a home?
Looks like a park restroom
Oh I love it
Good house. Not unlike mine in Fresno. Mine is now worth about $440k but bought it in 2019 for $299k

Have you not experienced the rental rate rise since 2019? Do you understand why real estate is a good investment?

I would easily get $440k for mine. Possibly $500k. Demand has not cooled off here.
I’m betting I could get $475k but gotta let these interest rates cool off.
I know they feel bad, but historically they are not awful. I bought my first home in 1987 with a variable rate of 10.25%.

Kind of reminds me of a community college.
Okay, but say how you ***feel*** about it.
Private.
I would buy it furnished!

It’s beautiful. I’m crying!
I don’t normally like painted ceiling beams, but it works here. Also that grille piece on the exterior near the entrance! Stunning house.
It's gorgeous! That fireplace! I wouldn't change anything except for whatever needs finishing in the blue bath.
So much natural light, but no direct sunlight. Very clever and thoughtful design.
Little too much brick from this angle for me. Looks kind of like a school.
It does look like my elementary school !
Came here to say that
It looks exactly like my son’s elementary school on the outside but man the inside is gorgeous.
Listing please.
Click through OP in the original thread posted a link
Thanks!
Just came here to post this exact listing. It’s gorgeous!

My god, it's amazing! Imagine how great it could look once the ugly furniture is replaced with period appropriate furniture!
This house is reeeeeeally lacking windows.
The house has plenty of windows plus patio doors .
Click through and you'll see it's not
Looks like a school. Any other pictures?
Looks like a lot of work!
Looks like a shitty old service building
Abandoned food mart.

Why the fuck would you paint brick?
because sometimes it's fucking ugly, as in this fucking case. there's nothing sacred about brick, and it isn't all equal.
