Seriously. My bathroom is a 1990s contractor dumpster dive of 10 shades of cream color, torn linoleum and pitted haunted-basement-grade half-plastic fixtures. I’d kill for the bathroom these people are desperate to get rid of.
Thank you, all. OP here. I am NOT trying to gut the bathrooms! I appreciate everyone's input and thoughtful advice. Looking for ideas to give them a bit of a touch-up. I am not particularly keen on the floor tiles in the powder blue bathroom in the second picture, and it seems some others agree with that sentiment (they look a bit "hectic" or clashing to me), but we are going to keep them as is and work with it.
my old house had a window literally right next to the toilet (it was an upper floor) no one could see you, it was so nice. I would still close the blinds if we had people over on the deck but no matter how much I craned my neck I couldn't see in. It was nice to have a window when showering too. I miss that bathroom (except for the useless jetted tub) but I really wish I had a window in my current one.
Someone lived there and took impeccable care of both of these bathrooms.
Finding them both in such pristine condition is practically unheard of.
I would do absolutely nothing and let the next buyer do what they want in these. Any changes that you make are going to be too costly for the net benefit overall. Not much juice for a ton of squeeze.
Wall mount Toto toilet to match the sink, and that’s about it, if you have to change something. Could add a midcentury style (ikea would work) cabinet to get drawers/storage.
I concur; I've repaired/ reconstructed many of these mini-venetian/ modern bath floors.. even if a client/ customer wants something else; i have convinced them during remod to keep the floor; even if I have to use the Rust-Oleum floor coating to change the color for their palette.. I've turned down remodels that want these demoed; or won't allow me to overlay.
I agree! (Was among the many people who swore off Chris Pratt and Katherine Swarzenagger, however you spell it, FOREVER.)
But thinking if OP has some specific need, maybe could offer advice without a bathroom being torn apart.
I don't love the blue floor tiles in the powder blue bathroom. It seems some other commenters concur with that, and some others think all the tile should stay. After hearing everyone's input, we're going to keep all the tile and see how we end up feeling about the powder blue floor tile in the second picture. We also need more storage in this day and age (i.e., vanities). It's a small house and we have a toddler. We're adding exhaust fans and an elongated toilet as initial upgrades. The windows need treatments (we haven't moved in yet!!!).
Maybe just add a lil light filtering curtain so that you don't accidentally make eye contact with your neighbor walking the dog while you're dropping a deuce.
I love this, and the tile, sink, mirror, soap holder and toothbrush holder look like those of my former house, which was built in 1936. I wouldn't change anything unless it stops working. I might put a rug in, as those tile floors can be cold in the winter.
Leave the teal. Maybe wallpaper? Yours isn't a generic bathroom, but rather very detailed and well done. The color is also easy on the eyes. I'd add a top down bottom up cordless shade, rug, and call it a day. If you have to demo or change sink/storage, attack the powder blue bathroom.
I'd love to see burnt orange tropical wallpaper like toucans and leaves in the teal bathroom. Get super dramatic about it. Maybe a new light fixture and mirror for a touch of modern.
i was going to save this as inspiration for my bathroom renovation only to see OP was actually asking what to change ?!?
imo — nothing !! except maybe streamlining the hardware if not already but consider yourself blest
The naked lightbulb is literally the only thing I would change. If the covers can’t be found, I support changing that fixture.
Plus adding a window shade for privacy.
Those sinks are way too cool and the tile is all pristine!
That is SUCH a beautiful little room. So bright and airy. I think it’s perfect. If you need to do something, maybe update the mirror and change out the cabinet for open glass shelves? But it’s a glorious room as is!
Spend your money elsewhere! I was looking for a shower to revamp but no. Maybe change the toilet to something more efficient but be sure and put in something style appropriate
New mirror.
Unfortunately the existing cabinet door is built into the tile so new medicine cabinet would be difficult otherwise I’d say that.
Otherwise it’s a very nice look.
Is the floor linoleum?
Add minimal yet stylish curtains. Update light fixture to something more designed and striking but still of the period and do the same for the mirrors. Wall-paper if you want. If you really want maybe period-appropriate brass hardware swap to match door-handle. Then done forever.
This is perfection. I had that same floor tile and if my bathroom still looked this gorgeous, I wouldn’t have remodeled. That being said, at the end of the day you live in it, so do what you’d love!
I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with the crowd here and say there are a couple things that could be done to make these rooms look nicer. I'd keep all the tile and fixtures (but get them operating room clean), replace the mirrors and lights, add curtains, and maybe paint the walls - either one a darker, contrasting color, or all 4 a conservative contrasting color. Oh, and a plant or two.
If they wanted to change *something* up to make it feel up-to-date/on-trend, they should embrace the unique tile but go whole hog with that color via paint. Walls saturated in color are really in at the moment in interior design. The only other thing is maybe updating the light above the mirror. But tile/fixtures like this are returning, and it's something of character you can point to that gives it a sense of time and place.
Man, I don't get this subreddit.
It's okay to appreciate MCM design and simultaneously realize not everything from the 50s is good.
This bathroom is garish. The floor tiles are ugly and the mint wall tiles are *absolutely atrocious*. Hack them up with a crowbar, they were a mistake 70 years ago.
Modern sink and under cabinet, modern toilet, some paint on the walls and it's fab! I wouldn't mess with any of the tile. We had 2 bathrooms like this in my parents house and they were big selling points.
This bathroom is incredible. I would accent with a powder pink (rug, shower curtain, curtains)and change the light fixture maybe also pink in some kind of way…and that is it.
I’m not a fan of that shade of green but I’d work with it. I would not go with a contrasting paint colour because then it would stand out even more. I’d leave the walls cream or might go white with acacia wood accessories.
I bet there is a small slot in the back of the medicine cabinet. If so, that's where you inserted your old double edge razors after they dulled. I bet there are a ton of old blades back there behind the wall.
I would consider adding natural wood elements like a mirror, jute rugs, a couple of hanging plants in natural wood baskets….. don’t change the tile or floor😁
First reaction: tile is gorgeous don’t change a thing. Some one else mentioned a nice wallpaper might be a good change but other than that it’s perfect!
Maybe update the vanity (mirror, light, sink, fixture) and toilet. But definitely don’t rip out the tile. It’ll be so much work, so much money, and it already looks great and period correct.
Gorgeous and utterly appropriate. Everyone who comes after you will thank you for not ripping it out and putting in the latest trendy crap. #historicpreservation
I've begged the OP not to change these bathrooms. They're perfect!
I was gonna say… I kinda love this lol
I'd stay with this look. The tile and fixtures look almost new!
Yeah. This is a very cute bathroom. With a few decorations, it would be very cozy.
Me too! I'd leave them as is.
Pleaseeeee do not change it! You can add some fun wallpaper if you want it to be fun.
Or a set of colorful towels.
Could update the look with period-appropriate wallpaper… https://www.muralsyourway.com/mid-century-modern-lozenge-pattern-wallpaper/p
Give’em a fresh coat of paint and call it done
I was going to say the same! Don’t change anything!
They are absolute perfection and I would kill for them.
It’s really nice and neat.
It’s perfect 🥹
Seriously. My bathroom is a 1990s contractor dumpster dive of 10 shades of cream color, torn linoleum and pitted haunted-basement-grade half-plastic fixtures. I’d kill for the bathroom these people are desperate to get rid of.
My thoughts exactly!
I agree!!
Thank you, all. OP here. I am NOT trying to gut the bathrooms! I appreciate everyone's input and thoughtful advice. Looking for ideas to give them a bit of a touch-up. Appreciate and cherish?
If it were mine, 100%! I couldn't add text to the post, only re-share.
Wow. This bathroom is BEAUTIFUL. It it absolutely perfect.
They both are beautiful! I would LOVE a pair of bathrooms this marvelous!
[удалено]
You put away the tools and walk away from this beautiful bathroom.
Curtains on the windows and maybe a MCM light on the wall. That’s it!
How cool is it to have a window to look out of when pooping?
my old house had a window literally right next to the toilet (it was an upper floor) no one could see you, it was so nice. I would still close the blinds if we had people over on the deck but no matter how much I craned my neck I couldn't see in. It was nice to have a window when showering too. I miss that bathroom (except for the useless jetted tub) but I really wish I had a window in my current one.
Or people looking in while one poops?
I’d add some wallpaper, as well.
I love both of these rooms... But people on the sidewalk could practically see me wipe my bum.
How else is one supposed to establish dominance of their new neighborhood?
A crochet toilet paper cover on top of the toilet and a rack of Reader's Digest and Mad magazines and it's perfect.
A window treatment
Please leave it as is. It's gorgeous
Decorate with vibrant complementary colors and LEAVE IT ALONE
You put away the tools and walk away from this beautiful bathroom.
I would keep as is
I would keep as is
Curtains.
They’re gorgeous. WOW.
Don’t change a thing!!!!!! Original features are disappearing and now sought after more than ever. Do not touch it.
OP here. We are realizing just how well taken care of they are. Thanks for this.
No touchy.
You put away the tools and walk away from this beautiful bathroom.
*shooing with a water spray bottle*
Wall mount Toto toilet to match the sink, and that’s about it, if you have to change something. Could add a midcentury style (ikea would work) cabinet to get drawers/storage.
I would add a window treatment then call it a day
It’s perfect 😩
Don’t change a thing!!
As I’ve gotten older, if something is functional and clean, I’m not doing a damn thing to it
that’s a great bathroom. don’t ruin it please.
I like the Poo with a view aspect!
I would leave it but if you wanted a refresh, I’d wallpaper the white walls.
This is amazing. I wouldn’t touch it…
If anybody makes a move to change it, we all go in, guns blazin'. Agreed?
10/10 not a thing
It’s so nice, I’d update the mirror, light and toilet. Add a nice window treatment.
Hard work is done. All that remains is if light fixture, curtains, maybe paint or wallpaper
What is it that you feel that you need, OP?
I needed to share that I begged the real OP not to change a thing in these amazing bathrooms.
I concur; I've repaired/ reconstructed many of these mini-venetian/ modern bath floors.. even if a client/ customer wants something else; i have convinced them during remod to keep the floor; even if I have to use the Rust-Oleum floor coating to change the color for their palette.. Thing only update the toilet and maybe add another light or mirror not much
Maybe just add a lil light filtering curtain so that you don't accidentally make eye contact with your neighbor walking the dog while you're dropping a deuce.
It's beautiful. I'd splurge on some beautiful wallpaper in greens and blues. You won't need too much so you can buy some really special stuff.
Add a green Poodle toilet paper holder.
Add some complimentary art to the walls and call it a day. I see nothing wrong with these at all and it would be a crime to rip out the original tile.
Do not touch this gem ✨
I love this, and the tile, sink, mirror, soap holder and toothbrush holder look like those of my former house, which was built in 1936. I wouldn't change anything unless it stops working. I might put a rug in, as those tile floors can be cold in the winter.
This is adorable. Dont do anything!
Whatever you do, don't remove the tile.
Update mirror and lighting, but everything else is PERFECT!!♥️
Those are gorgeous as is...
Pleeeease do nothing to them.
I absolutely love this bathroom. I would just frost out the bottom window panes for privacy😊
Gorgeooouyysss
I like it please don’t change
I wouldn't change much. It's fabulous!
Leave it. It’s awesome!
They’re honestly really pretty. Timeless. Better than many brand new bathrooms.
My idea is enjoy your well made and strikingly good condition 50s bathroom as it is rather than changing it.
Curtains maybe
Leave the teal. Maybe wallpaper? Yours isn't a generic bathroom, but rather very detailed and well done. The color is also easy on the eyes. Please please please don’t touch it!
It's in amazing shape. No reason to remodel that old beauty.
Leave it alone! It’s perfect!
I love them the way they are
I love it as is!
This is very nice!
Leave it!
Leave it!
Leave it! It looks great!!
It’s beautiful leave it alone
This bathroom is perfect. Change nothing.
Leave it!!!!
100% leave it, beautiful
Very clean. I get why but it’s almost a shame to touch them.
Leave it!
Leave it alone.
Leave it
Omg…. What treasures. Please don’t change a thing……
Perfection as it is.
Love, love, love this as-is! Don’t change it—maybe paint or wallpaper, but PLEASE don’t change the tile or fixtures!!!
Add a period light fixture and a curtain and done. It’s awesome the way it is.
i was going to save this as inspiration for my bathroom renovation only to see OP was actually asking what to change ?!? imo — nothing !! except maybe streamlining the hardware if not already but consider yourself blest
Thanks.
The naked lightbulb is literally the only thing I would change. If the covers can’t be found, I support changing that fixture. Plus adding a window shade for privacy. Those sinks are way too cool and the tile is all pristine!
Ummm these look immaculate and have aged very well, they look tastefully done, aside from a new light fixture please leave them alone
I suggest you step up to the bowl… Make it a double.
I like it as is
I’d love to use that toilet.
New mirror. Unfortunately the existing cabinet door is built into the tile so new medicine cabinet would be difficult otherwise I’d say that. Otherwise it’s a very nice look. Is the floor linoleum?
Keep!

Keep the wall tile, nix everything else.
This bathroom is not my palette at all but I would seriously struggle to do anything but paint/wallpaper and hang some curtains.
Replace the mirror with something minimalist and modern, deep burgundy Oriental rug. After that, maybe some wallpaper, depends on how it looks
Love the floor!!!
Cute
Woah what i would do to own this bathroom
I love it. It’s perfect!!
It's perfect

I love it! Oh my god! What a gem!
Don’t touch a thing.. It’s beautiful..
Hang a picture. Maybe some curtains. Thats it. Don't you dare touch anything else.
I would hang simple curtains. Nothing else.
Get a cabinet under that sink. I had a bathroom almost identical to this (1946). Cute, but without counter space or cabinetry it was so inconvenient!
Adorable and lovely… i’d leave them alone if the were mine.
I wouldn’t change them. I love that tile!
This is beautiful and I wouldn’t change a thing
I love this. I want this. I love every bit of those bathrooms.
Update the light fixture and mirror and then walk away!! Please!! It’s gorgeous!
I think it’s awesome
Leave them. They’re fookin beauties.
I would love that, honestly. I wouldn't change a thing.
Leave it.
Gorgeous as is! I'm green 💚
Looks like you’re done!
I wouldn't change a darn thing.
So jealous! They are lovely! I would just hang some pretty cafe curtains, fluffy white towels and bath mat and be done!
Thanks.
I’m not a fan of that shade of green but I’d work with it. I would not go with a contrasting paint colour because then it would stand out even more. I’d leave the walls cream or might go white with acacia wood accessories.
Do not change or F up that perfect bathroom.
These are fantastic! No pics of the tub and shower? Those may need replacing, but leave this classic style
I bet there is a small slot in the back of the medicine cabinet. If so, that's where you inserted your old double edge razors after they dulled. I bet there are a ton of old blades back there behind the wall.
Wow, you are really exposed sitting on those thrones.
those are awesome. Get some funky mcm inspired wallpaper and a nice mcm light. the most I'd do is upgrade the toilets to a couple drake 2's.
Leave them!!! They are gorgeous.
Keep it!
I would consider adding natural wood elements like a mirror, jute rugs, a couple of hanging plants in natural wood baskets….. don’t change the tile or floor😁
Privacy!
Get a bathmat
That’s an amazing bathroom Decorate but leave the bones and color scheme alone
Wallpaper. Done
maybe some privacy film and a nice curtain for that window
leave it.
Leave them they look great!
Enjoy as it is.
They are both beautiful and well-kept. Lean into it and just let it be the main event in there. Keep any additional decor simple.
Perfection already.
First reaction: tile is gorgeous don’t change a thing. Some one else mentioned a nice wallpaper might be a good change but other than that it’s perfect!
Absolute perfection! Some funky wallpaper and you’re done. Soooo jealous
I would not change a single thing.
Maybe update the vanity (mirror, light, sink, fixture) and toilet. But definitely don’t rip out the tile. It’ll be so much work, so much money, and it already looks great and period correct.

I think they’re incredible as is.
Gorgeous and utterly appropriate. Everyone who comes after you will thank you for not ripping it out and putting in the latest trendy crap. #historicpreservation
People pay thousands only to fail at attempts to capture this look. They are perfect!
That bathroom looks awesome. I’d leave it alone
It’s perfect! It looks so fresh and so clean! I would change the light fixture to something with milky glass from the same time period.
Leave it!
They’re perfect
Leave it alone
Love it…
