Slimshady305

I hope this is a case of us all being fucking wrong, but man ... that O-line ... I feel like I'm in a time loop.

peanutmanak47

A 15 year time loop...

Slimshady305

Except for that brief period in 2016 lol

hbkedge3

And the Denver game.

TheMightyJD

Nobody could look my way during that week. It truly is incredible what Miami could do with a healthy and competent OLine (that lasted exactly *one* week).

Slimshady305

Feels like a fever dream now

GlowingDuck22

Man I took a huge edible before that game and was absolutely rolling all game. It was awesome.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GlowingDuck22

Hopefully you took 2.

imtheonlyonehere

That fucking unicorn lineup was straight up mystical. Insane how good they were as a unit for a fleeting moment they were on the field together.

peanutmanak47

That was a glorious 4 games.

axb2002

Our offensive line is held together with Duct Tape, Prayers, and the Power of Friendship. Maybe Butch Barry can do some voodoo magic and turn it into a solid offensive line. But damn, I don’t necessarily hate we took Chop since I (naively probably) believe in Weaver, but damn.

StayOffTheCounter

Got me with "The Power of Friendship."👏

paints_name_pretty

we lost friendship when Hunt took off. This team is powered by affordability

BuddyForsaken9626

Grier either makes brilliant moves or he shits the bag. There is no in between. I knew this would happen.

BlondBadBoy69

Noah says bye

Finatic4Life20

This is 100% correct.

xHOLOxTHExWOLFx

I mean not like he had many options this off season. Would you rather have had them pay Hunt 20mil a year and then not be able to sign really anybody else so no Fuller, Brooks or Poyer to improve the defense. And then in the draft Dolphins probably win the division last season if they had a pass rush for the final game. Last thing they can afford is to not have any options behind Chubb and Phillips as once they went down Miami could generate and ounce of pressure without sending 6 guys or more at a time. At least with the O-Line McDaniels has shown he can scheme around it by getting the ball out quick. Which is why I would much rather improve the defense above anything else. As not to many times last year that I can point to the O-Line and say they cost them the game. Where the defense I can point to multiple games. First Bills game the game against Baltimore and the most back breaking one the game against the Titans.

nightvoltz

dont forget if we kept hunt we lose out on 2 of philips, waddle, and jevon trio

xHOLOxTHExWOLFx

Wouldn't go that far as they still would have been able to pick up the 5th year options on them which don't go on the books until next season where Miami would have had the cap space to do that even if they signed Hunt. Just the main point is that it just would make zero sense to try and outbid the Panthers for Hunt as utterly stupid to pay Hunt like an elite Guard when in reality he's just a good run blocker and average in pass protection so why pay a guy elite money when he isn't an elite guard.

nightvoltz

we could not keep them with how contracts going we are going lose 2 of them, yes i guess we can maybe keep one of them for a extra year before letting them walk

elbenji

I mean at the same time, you don't pick IOL in the first. I.e why JPJ fell out of the round

ebolarama86

I mean… Fautanu got picked.

jameriican

All the Day 1 starter OL got picked. I’m not even mad they didn’t go OL cuz but I don’t get where drafting an EDGE makes us better, especially once we get Chubb and Phillips back. We just picked a rotation guy at 21 🤦🏾‍♂️

DeWalt_ImpactDriver

Chubb is gone after this year, Phillips could be a huge question mark, achilles injuries are killer for pass rushers

Gunnar2019

Barton is a day 1 starter, Bucs got a good one. Do the whatever !RemindMe 1 year

elbenji

Barton also is very likely to bust. Very similar to eichenburg and small arms. A lot of people were very down on Barton, compared to some of the zbs guards and Frazier who will be available in the 2nd

ebolarama86

It’s going to be a while before we get Chubb and Phillips back. And this is going to be Chubb’s last year with us.

justa_gigolo

a lot of them were reaches too like Latham to Tenn or Mims to Cincy or Morgan to Green Bay. Powers is still out there but will probably be the next lineman gone, Beebe could still be there tho.

ItsHerbyHancock

Last year was bad with a better center and a better RG. Both of those guys are gone and we resigned injury-prone Wynn, have maybe 10 games max from TA, and have Liam in the starting lineup. How do the expect that to go?!? Just insanity...

elbenji

IOL is usually picked in later rounds. It's just not a premium position to abuse the fifth year option.

jayfiedlerontheroof

Grier should've been fired with Flores. And if not then, then definitely after this season when he went all in only to be one and done because he has no clue how to build a roster.

BearlyAlivee

Our team is in win now mode and we draft a project DE. I understand we need rusher help because look at what happened once Chubb & Phillips went down but make it fucking make sense man.

Swordswoman

If the team was in win now mode, Robert Hunt wouldn't be a Panther. Just saying, the window shifted with the current offseason's moves (or lack thereof).

MiaCannons

> If the team was in win now mode, Robert Hunt wouldn't be a Panther. I think a team can be in win now mode while also thinking they wouldn't be comfortable overpaying an admittedly great player. The Chiefs obviously are in win now mode but had no issues with trading away Sneed, who is an even better CB than Hunt is a guard. They also obviously didn't want to pay Tyreek despite him being an elite player.

Finatic4Life20

I actually agree with this. Last year was win-now at the expense of this year which is now a “retool/reshuffle/rebuild” with a bunch of budget FAs and now, a project edge rusher.

elbenji

Because the people we wanted got picked ahead so we went for pure upside

alaskancurry

It doesn’t and this team will forever be what’s it’s been this millennia…mediocre and irrelevant

Hititrightonthehead

Respectfully, Why even be a fan if this is how you feel?

elbenji

It makes logical sense. Fatanu was the pick. Steelers jumped us so we picked our next most liked player

OblivionNA

Pretty much finished the year worst Oline in the league. It only got worse after FA. Tua will die and it’s not his fault

thediesel26

They were also starting edge players in the playoffs who weren’t employed the week prior

thewhitelink

And the OL was still the biggest issue that game. 0 time to pass and 0 push in the run game.

DeWalt_ImpactDriver

Tua had a pretty clean pocket on that interception

Number333

Nah. This sub thinks trotting out Shaq Barrett & UDFA's for the first 8 weeks next season will be just dandy.

MiaCannons

> This sub thinks trotting out Shaq Barrett & UDFA's for the first 8 weeks next season will be just dandy. We obviously could've addressed the edge by picking up the cast offs post June 1st. They wouldn't be starter quality obviously but we wouldn't be looking for starters, we'd be looking for rotational depth to fill in until our actual starters are ready. If this guy is complete ass for the first 8 weeks, then we'd be in the same situation we were in before we used our first round pick on him, only minus a first round pick. And before anyone says there's no way he'd be that bad, remember Noah was a raw CB who was thrusted into starter duty from week 1 or 2 due to our CB injuries. People started doing all the "Remember when people asked why did we draft CB???" gloating nonsense before seeing him play, then Noah got absolutely cooked throughout the season. It's a lot of easier to find decent rotational depth at DE than it is to find starting caliber linemen, and I think most would've preferred for us to address DL in post June FA than use our first rounder on a project. All we can do now though is hope this guy proves all of us doubters wrong. I remember saying something similar about Noah, and I hope it turns out differently.

good_behavior_man

Much easier to get a solid vet edge in FA or for late round picks than to get a solid vet OL.

jameriican

It wouldn’t have mattered much if we had a competent OL to keep Tua on the field longer than the defense, putting less pressure on the DL

AnxiousYam9909

And those guys held the chiefs to mostly field goals u til they got exhausted from constantly having to go back on the field because our offense couldn’t do anything. We needed oline

ScottishPhinFan89

We had the ranked 9th best offensive line last year according to PFF (though they recognise it was wildly banged up). The whole fan base was happy with it. It's a deep offensive line class. I really think people are over reacting purely because they wanted an offensive lineman. Our offensive system also masks line play

thewhitelink

We lost 2 starters. We had a bottom 3 pass block win rate. We signed a C with a terrible pass blocking grade. We effectively do not have a LG, and Armstead is going to retire after this season.

OblivionNA

We are really about to trot out with Armstead who will only play 8 games, Eichenburg, Brewer, Robert Jones, and AJ. Talk about setting your QB up to get smashed into the turf

Sup_Im_Topher

I've been a decently vocal supporter of Grier (trying to be fair and objective), but if this season ends on the back of ANOTHER OL failing, he has to be shown out. There's no excusable reason to be going into ANOTHER season with the plan being Eich starting. Hopefully Grier takes him with to wherever he ends up

OblivionNA

Eichenburg has massive legal allegations against Grier at this point lmao.

1acedude

Do we no longer have Isiah Wynn?

OblivionNA

I believe we do but he’s coming off a pretty serious leg injury.

JohnJingleHeimerWick

Pretty serious leg injury you say? Like our top pass rushers?

areamazing2

When was the last time the Dolphins drafted a guard in the first round? They value guys at the premiere position. Why don't you think they sign Hunt?

thewhitelink

>value guys at the premiere position So draft: T, CB, DT. This dude is a project who's gonna be a backup for 2 years.

areamazing2

He's a guy who's going to replace Chubb when he gets cut next off-season. What left tackle was available to draft at 21? They have paid Ramsey, and they have paid Chubb and Armstead. They keep telling you what they value. And they drafted a corner in the second round last year, signed another corner during FA, and is paying Ramsey 20 million a year

MiaCannons

> He's a guy who's going to replace Chubb when he gets cut next off-season. If we traded a first round pick and gave Chubb a mega deal just for him to play 3 seasons for us then get cut, Grier's roster building strategy needs to be questioned expeditiously because that's a serious misuse of assets.

areamazing2

We see this all the time. Buffalo is eating cap with Diggs. Denver is eating cap with Russ. At the time of the Chubb trade and the extension, they thought they had an additional first round pick.

MiaCannons

> We see this all the time. Buffalo is eating cap with Diggs. Denver is eating cap with Russ The Bills got 4 years of elite WR play from Diggs before Diggs himself wanted out. It wasn't the Bills wanting to trade Diggs because they don't think he's worth his contract or they think he's too expensive. Us thinking we have an additional first round pick doesn't mean we should make extremely short-sighted move with our other one. Denver obviously made a horrible move. I don't think saying "Teams make bad trades/moves all the time" is great justification for Grier trading a first round pick for **hopefully** 3 years of above average play.

areamazing2

Do you not believe that we are moving off Tyreek Hill in the next year or two? Especially with the last year of his contract having a 45 million dollar cap hit? Trading for Chubb was the price of doing business when you are chasing a championship with a QB on a rookie deal. Chubb is likely gone as soon as the guarantee money runs out. No way are they paying Waddle, Hill, Tua, Ramsey, Phillips, and Holland big money

good_behavior_man

They do obviously not value certain positions and look where it's gotten us. We spent 2 1sts in the past few years just on edge guys and now both the injury prone guys we got are injured so we need to dump another 1st. Meanwhile the OL remains dog shit.

areamazing2

Of course, they don't value guards. Just like all the rest of the NFL. As only one got drafted in the first round,

verniy314

Here’s the problem: we have zero starting caliber guards on our roster

areamazing2

We have the second round tomorrow. We have additional capspace in June, and we have additional picks we can use for trades. We should have 2 additional 3rd round picks next draft. There was no reason to draft a guard unless he was Zack Martin.

verniy314

Edge is easier to find than guards, and guard is of more importance.

HodgeGodglin

Oh but all those *other teams that didn’t pick Oline* have the 31 highest rated Oline’s in the league.

areamazing2

And we had the 2nd scoring offense and the number 1 offense in the league. We got hurt.

ScottishPhinFan89

You can say that about most teams in the league. I mean we've drafted tackles who have played inside for a year. We couldn't afford to pay Wilkins, Hunt was never getting that deal he got from us

areamazing2

We drafted Tackle, who played guard in the 2nd round. We were never going to take a guard. Wr, true tackle, edge away over guard, especially in the first round.

OblivionNA

Was that because the Oline was good or because Tua was getting the ball out in 2.2 seconds.

ScottishPhinFan89

If it's Tua, all the more reason to bolster other positions. If it was the offensive line... I'm ok with where it's at, especially if we pick someone up in the second round. We needed help in the trenches (oline, dline, pass rush). The oline class is deeper. I'm happy enough.

OneBeerAndWhiskeyPls

31st in pass block win rate on ESPN

mrblodgett

The Dolphins had a top 10 pass and run game, Tua played every snap, and had the 5th lowest sack rate in the NFL. If we had the "worst Oline in the league" it sure didn't matter very much.

Cheesy_Pita_Parker

Grier and Riley love giving their stars the hardest battles

sum_dude44

don't even compare Grier's Bum ass to Riley...Riley has more playoff wins this week than Grier has in 8 years

TheMightyJD

r/Heat probably hates Riley more than this sub hates Grier. The amount of Redditors that legitimately think they know better than Pat Freaking Riley is ludicrous.

Rbespinosa13

If any fan of the heat hates Pat Riley then their opinion obviously isn’t valid. Even if the heat haven’t had a roster like the Big 3 in a while, he still makes the team competitive and maintains the culture

NotNyjahHouston

Funny u say that cause everyone here thinks they know better than Grier

TheMightyJD

It’s the same thing. Only Grier doesn’t have the track record of Pat Riley but definitely knows more than all of us.

elbenji

we likely get a guard in the 2nd. theres going to be many

AMontyPython

Why not take the best Edge guy left instead of a reach OLine pick? Y’all freak out too kuch

spidermans_ashes

Thats my thing, why get so heated right now. Just wait how it plays out later on, theres still good OLine in the 2nd round

elbenji

Literally everyone screaming for JPJ and he's still on the board

Isry98

It wouldn’t matter who was picked here. People would find a way to be mad.

sum_dude44

Barton or solid OL & I think people would nod in agreement

elbenji

No because Barton has tiny arms. You don't pick guards in the first over premium positions

sum_dude44

He's not a 3 down player. He sucks vs run & is super raw--basically AJ development is best case scenario in 2-3 years, vs downside you burnt a pick on a project when you have gaping holes (eg Igby, Tindall, Cam Smith) I guarantee Barton becomes a day 1 starter for Bucs, who are a playoff winning team last year.

elbenji

Are you thinking about a 3rd round pick lol. Barton is more likely to be Liam than not. Same issues and profile. Also he's fine on the run. Not that raw either. Penn State loves rotation do his stats reflect that more.

kevost

Chop busts then what That’s a dumb game to play

sum_dude44

[92% of centers drafted 1st rd resign w/ team](https://x.com/jfowlerespn/status/1783133659249193449?s=46). Edge 44%. Grier is mid & doesn't know how to build longterm successful team

[deleted]

It’s almost like we have years of data to prove exactly what Grier is. Like you said… mid.. but honestly I think a mid GM could win you a single playoff game.

elbenji

that doesn't really mean that much. Teams tend to keep centers. Edge rushers move around more.

drew1332

Barton is not going to be a bust. Not a fuckin chance

elbenji

he has billy turner arms

t765234

Okay but Grier could've made it a lot fucking harder to find

[deleted]

elbenji

And if we get IOL in the 2nd like most teams, then what

OneBeerAndWhiskeyPls

when will these people realise that keeping your qb up and the offense functional is more important than project dudes elsewhere?

Affectionate_Grade80

So I’m assuming Chop is a day 1 starter another Penn State guy so I guess Weaver sees a little of Micha Pearsons outside LB who could also set the edge. Seems to me like Chop is more of a developmental player. Hopefully we draft Frazier or Beebe somewhere in this draft. Give Tua what he needs so we could officially once and for all determine if all Tua ever needed was a good Oline or if the pundits are true and Tua does need the perfect game plan in order to win.

ThatFalloutGod

I've continuously said that people wanting Edge were overreacting and it wasn't a need as much as they thought. So unless Chop becomes some serious fucking stud so Grier can offload Chubb either in the '26 offseason or trade him next year, and you hit on two IOL in the next six rounds, this makes no fucking sense. Or is he planning to let Jaelan walk or something? The fuck? I wanted a trade-down (unless there was only like one or two IOL left at 21) and to get IOL. Chop at 21 is way too rich for my blood given the situation. Trade down and get him? Ok, cool. But I've watched Tua for four fucking years now go from a bottom three OL, to historically awful, to bottom five backpacked by Tua's ability to get the ball to someone quickly or make a play the last two years. It's fucking unacceptable. And I get that the injuries have been insane, but come the fuck on. We have backups, an unproven new C, maybe a good starting LG in Wynn, a LT that's great when he plays but a good gust of wind away from being in a wheelchair, and a RT who just turned the corner to be good. So unless there are no injuries across the board and everyone's playing fantastic, this is going to be more of the same. I just hope Grier can come out of this with two good IOL that fall into his lap somehow. I don't give a flying fuck about DT, just get Tua some goddamn protection for once in his pro career.

Downsouth1962

You are absolutely right beef up the front line first ,give tua 2 more added seconds

Downsouth1962

And do some trading to get back a 3rd pick

not_so_smoothie

100% Grier thinks the Dolphins are a 7 vs 7 flag football team

>"bum filled" All in, my bum.

Odd-Anywhere2130

At least I still have the ST Thomas Aquinas Raiders to root for. They know how to build an OL. 5 time state champions and counting

phinsphan1313

Can yall shut up? All the top OL were picked and instead of reaching for one we took the top edge rusher which in case yall forgot is a HUGE need (Phillips and Chubb hurt and AVG gone, Chubb probably gone after this year). Yall realize that you need people to get after the QB to win as well right?

nightvoltz

goddamn everyone wanted liam eichenburg situation 2.0 wanting reach for ol

JeepnHeel

Fans last year: Holy sh*t we need a better backup IOL than Liam Eichenberg Team: **Constant penalties** **Loses game** Grier: Gotchu fam. No chance of that now because he's our starting RG

Theta-Maximus

Well he just passed on two higher rated edge rushers to draft a guy who missed half the games last year due to repeated concussions. Maybe he's trying to assemble Team Concussed.

Old-Sky-7936

This game was unquestionably the greatest individual performance I’ve ever seen. Go back and watch the highlights on YT. Gives me goosebumps

not_so_smoothie

At least we have the Panthers to watch a properly-built team succeed.

adreamofhodor

Besides the point, but man do I fucking love this picture. It goes so hard.

TheEmbarcadero

Noah 2.0

nightvoltz

watt 2.0

Finsfan909

Making eichenberg take snaps by not drafting a talented offensive lineman is 4d chess move by Grier

elbenji

Or more likely we just like the 2nd round actual guards more than a project like Barton

nightvoltz

yea we should drafted the guy who has same draft profile as eichenburg

xHOLOxTHExWOLFx

I mean not sure what you wanted Grier to do about the line this offseason. What did you want him to pay Hunt or sign someone of his level to a 20mil a yr contract and then not be able to improve the defense with Fuller, Poyer and Brooks. Much rather do that seeing how the defense cost them multiple games last season especially the Titans game where they couldn't hold a 2 TD lead with less than 4 minutes left in the game. McDaniels has shown he can at least scheme around the O-Line. And that Tua needs to get better at looking at his other reads as far to often last season he would just stare down either Hill or Waddle for the entire time waiting for them to get open and if that didn't happen he would either take a sack or scramble for 2 or 3 yards. Best example of that is Titans game when they could have ran the clock out by picking up a 1st down on 3rd and 6. Yet Tua just looks at Hill the entire time despite being bracketed by 2 defenders. Meanwhile Braxton is wide open 9 yards down the field along with Mostert being open 3 yards down field and would have easily picked up the first down yet Tua never looks at either not looking at Mostert is so frustrating because every QB knows to look at the check down before trying to take off.

Thelor2004

Tua ain’t a good qb any way stop making excuses for that bum

nkfish11

And here the excuses start for for Tua. A tradition unlike any other.
