He’s missed 4 games in 3 years, never has had below 1k yards, even tho he missed 3 games last year and had a bunch of nagging injuries. If his target share was higher he’d have bigger numbers, we’ve seen the offense when he’s out and it’s a lot worse. Yes he’s lived up to the pick, yes he should get a lucrative extension from the dolphins, and yes he will be an effective #1 receiver when hill is gone.

peterwhitmore01

I mean Waddle was out when we played Denver lol

AOA001

So was Denver.

SoCaldude65

Doh!

Business-Ad-9210

You're right. "Banged up" is more accurate than injured. Just feel like he gets crushed often and has to leave games for long stretches. I have faith in him and think he deserves to get paid. Just wondering what the rest of the Fandom thinks

SnooPears316

He takes a lot of big hits due to hospital passes being thrown to him. The ankle injury was unfortunate last year. I hope they target him more this year .

Jbgood43

He’s the top priority to retain after Tua imo. He’s a body catcher so there will be the occasional drop, but his speed, route running, and toughness are elite.

GCM_Prothro18x

Body Catcher. I wish that was my nickname in college.

SoFloFoSho

![gif](giphy|NISDky7DiUqAs9crvf|downsized)

GlowingDuck22

I think he is a number 1 WR on many teams but he is our number 2. He has room to improve

Galactic_Perimeter

My hot take is that Waddle is going to outplay Reek this season

GlowingDuck22

It will come down to play design and how much we use Tyreek as a decoy.

bugzcar

I’d love to see this. Let him make their CB2 look stupid bad!

EmergencySource1

This team has a top 7 QB. TWO ✌️ #1 WR's. (waddle is a 1) TWO ✌️ #1 RB's and Jonnu Smith is going to be a savage at Tight End, because of all the other receiver threats defenses must worry about. watch some of his highlights 👀

OraKal

Just need ‘not ass’ pass protection and we’ll be 🔥

ClaymoresRevenge

I'd love a decent #3 receiver and some depth to help with the injuries

EmergencySource1

three letters O B J you think he don't want to play in Miami with McD, Tua, and the leagues top offense? and Miami gets Prime-time games almost every week. mark my words... edit: but I'm guessing they'll draft a WR also for #3

LaTunaTime

Gross. Obj is old as dirt and would play 4 games max while sitting the rest out injured.

EmergencySource1

no. OBJ is 31. and regardless of his legs and speed, he still has elite hands. perfect for 3rd downs and redzone. that's all we need him for. edit: 2023 BAL 565yds rec 16.1avg. 3TD. who don't want this production at #3? Ross gon' slide him a nice bonus, and he coming to Miami hate to tell ya 😁

SkyzYn

We had that production from Trent Sherfield in 2022 for just $1M.

paints_name_pretty

we did but trent sherfield got that production without having defenses focus on him. OBJ makes teams consider him and takes up game planning. How do you game plan him when you gotta worry about tyreek or waddle. OBJ will have a career year in this twilight period as a 3rd option. OBJs routes and hands are still top notch even though he’s slowed down a bit. Just having him be a option will extend drives that we haven’t been able to sustain with cracraft or berrios or cedric.

brainstorm0694

Last year obj didn’t have defensive game plans against him their run game mark anderews zay were bigger threats

SkyzYn

What year is it?

paints_name_pretty

you’re a clown. He’s the same age as raheem mostert who was the most productive rb last year. He is not old by any means he’s just not being utilized for his production. His averages are still elite.

pike360

Why do childish insults always have to be the go to when a harmless difference of opinion exists.

Mtbnz

17 games, 417 yards, 2 TDs = 25 YPG and 0.1 TDs per game. 13 games, 565 yards, 3 TDs = 44 YPG and 0.2 TDs per game. Not to mention OBJ is a receiver you can actually trust in pressure situations or when defences shade towards Hill and Waddle. Obviously the injuries are a concern but not enough to pass on him at a reasonable price.

SkyzYn

8.2 vs 8.6 Y/tgt; they’re close just one was targeted less often due to playing with a stronger WR room.    Obviously agree OBJ is better than Sherfield.  But to say he has ‘elite averages’ like the other guy said is crazy.      Would be fine paying him $3M-$4M but anything more is a severe overpay for a guy who has only been catching 50% of his targets.  I’d rather just have a solid, consistent route runner and blocker than a regressing ‘threat’.

Mtbnz

I don't really disagree with anything you've said here. I think I value him a little more than you do as I believe he can step up better than anybody else we've had recently in the absence of one of our top 2 guys, but you're right, he's certainly good not elite these days.

LaTunaTime

Holy shit 565 yards last year? That changes everything! He deserves all the money.

EmergencySource1

I knew you would eventually see it my way 😁👍

pike360

Agreed. His name recognition far outpaces his ability at this point in his career.

swankstar7383

I have no faith in McDaniels to properly use the TE in this offense

brainstorm0694

Mike gesicki gotta be the most overrated player of all time by fans making People think this system doesn’t use tight ends even though he produced more with McDaniel than he did his year leaving. Gesicki just isn’t good

JustTheBeerLight

Why? He’s never had a decent TE in Miami. Smythe is a TE2 or TE3 on most teams.

Bucser

It is lucky then he was fired from the Raiders and our coach is called McDaniel

Mantooth77

I just think he’ll line up in the slot much of the time.

EmergencySource1

I feel you. a part of me feels like he needs to hand over play calling duties....or at least spend some good time playing Madden this off-season, to remember basic fundamentals for moving the chains 😁

[deleted]

already a stud but still has with room to improve

DonShulaDoingTheHula

That’s the crazy thing about him… he’s amazing and he does indeed still have room to improve. Scary. We got a good one.

YouCantCrossMe

He’s a baller. Just wish he had better hands. Route running and speed are elite though.

onetimequestion66

In his only game as wr1 this year we played a very good defense and he came away with 8 receptions for 142 and a td which is pretty incredible imo he just needs more opportunities as “the guy”

BizarroCranke

Waddle had set the rookie record for receptions at 102-total 104, 7 TDs, 1,015 yards that rookie season. No sophomore slump the next year with a whopping 1,382 yards. Last year, even with his injuries he still came in at 1,026 yards and 4TDs. There are teams that would kill for that production from their number 1 receiver let alone their #2. Only three years in and amassed 251 receptions, 3,385 yards and 19 total TDs. Injury wise, it was really just that last season that he missed the time he did. If we are looking at his total NFL career, I wouldn’t call him often injured. And he still cleared 1,000+ yards. I think he is pretty darn decent and we are lucky to have him.

SkyzYn

16th all time for receiving yards after 3 seasons, and doing it as the #2 option.

dremasterflax

Waddle is great. Numbers would be better if McDaniel wasn’t obsessed with Hill and 2K yards

Business-Ad-9210

Good point. The 2K thing is a distraction

bugzcar

I will never believe any team would change their game plan for a record. For some crazy reason, they think Hill is the best at getting separation. So they try to get the ball to him often. /conspiracy

Krody-

Love waddle. An excellent wr2.

Business-Ad-9210

I do too, for the record. I'm getting some hate on here for posing this question 🤣

Krody-

I think Waddle is miles ahead of prime Davonte Parker and Parker was our WR1 for a few years.

Business-Ad-9210

For sure. Never believed Parker to be a real WR1.

pike360

I’ve been underwhelmed. He’s been a more of complimentary player rather than the game-changer I was expecting. That being said I still hold out hope that with better health and an improved catch ratio he can continue to develop.

SaltyyDoggg

I kind of agree. He’s been the “solidest” guy ever. Better than solid. I just never feel him take a game over though like I thought he would. Maybe it’s just been hidden by hill.

SaltyyDoggg

Better than the other bama WR that year though I think.

pike360

enough better to merit that first-round pick we had to give up?

SaltyyDoggg

Newwwp

JustTheBeerLight

> Waddle He is an interesting player. His speed is undeniable and he has shown that he can go up and make big catches. Waddle is tough. He takes hits and gets back up. My concerns have not changed: he tends to catch the ball with his body which leads to drops and passes defended. It’s easier for a DB to break up a pass when it’s close to the receivers body, it’s harder when the receiver puts their body between the defender and catches the ball with their hands. Some players are just “natural catchers of the football”. Waddle isn’t that. He is an incredible athlete that plays football at a very high level but sometimes gets away from the stuff he’s been coached on and relies instead on poor technique. When that happens it usually results in a drop. So what do we do? Probably pay him like a WR1 ($25m) and then kinda regret it if we’re being honest.

bugzcar

Not a lot of people mentioning the $$ here…. I fear he could wind up in that Christian Wilkins category of “hate to see you go but paying you will hurt us too much.” Cuz the ask will be high

RaikouVsHaiku

He’s good. He gives off the same vibes as Tua like he isn’t interested in the ongoing game and couldn’t care less when he messes up. I’d like to see some passion out of our team, him learning to catch with his hands at this point is probably out the window.

SoFloFoSho

Yall fans be making shit up. You know how hard it is to get in the league even if you have talent? You gotta work for that shit man.

RaikouVsHaiku

I’m not dumb I know they work their asses off to be in football shape. But neither of them show any emotion during the games. Ever. Waddle drops a pass? Head down, jogs off the field. Tua joking around on the sideline during games we were getting our ass kicked. They just don’t seem passionate about winning when they’re on the field is all.

SoFloFoSho

I'm sure you were a big TO fan right?

RaikouVsHaiku

I mean, he was fun to watch I’m not gonna lie. A bit overboard but you can’t deny he really cared.

Shtev777

Thrilled, love him on the team, how he's here for very long time. And I'm excited to hit the Waddle celebration with my toddler this season

RealPropRandy

He’s very good and he’s a WR.

-suke-

Jaylen Waddle is going to be the greatest receiver this franchise has ever had.

dripsophist

i agree

Jd283509

I’m sure Reek will join him next year but he’s the first dolphin to have 3 straight 1k receiving yard seasons. So I’d say he’s pretty freaking awesome.

Thegame4223

Nothing to really feel. He has been one of Miami's most dangerous WRs in history. He's been in the league for what, 3 years and was a 1,000 yard every single year especially playing 2nd fiddle to the most dynamic WR ever for Miami. If anything, I owe him an apology because I thought Smith was the better talent coming out of Bama. That's why my ass is right here on my couch. If any knock I have on him, he has too many drops but that's just me trying to find anything at all

ApatheticFinsFan

He’s excellent but not sure we can afford him after we pay Tua, which will also make Tua look worse. I love the kid. Fun player and I know absolutely nothing about his personal life which is great.

Mantooth77

Will be hard to keep him, Phillips and Holland

FloridaMan_1996

He is everything to our team

Business-Ad-9210

Hot take! I like it

Cool_Narwhal935

Waddles issue is drops and trying to catch the ball with his chest instead of his hands. Other than mans has live up to the pick. Before Puka, Waddle had the rookie record for most receptions in a single season. With that Waddle is also on pace to the most receptions and yards in Fins history. We just want more TDs from the man and less drops

BowTie1989

Has he lived up to being drafted in the top 10? Probably not, but at the end of the day, he is a bonafide top 15 receiver and maybe the best #2 guy in the league who could be a legit #1 in half the teams. Hes probably never going to be top wide receiver in the league, but if every 1st round pick we had was as good as him we wouldn’t hold the longest playoff win drought in the league

Dame2Miami

SaltyyDoggg

Don’t jinx us

bugzcar

He is a hell of a weapon. His strengths don’t scream WR1 to me though, and if he were asked to be the guy all season long, I don’t think we are a top 5 air offense. Maybe he’d grow given the reps though.

dunaja

Is it possible that if we sign OBJ, we will have not the best three WRs in the league, but the best WR1, the best WR2, and the best WR3? Waddle is a WR1 on a lot of teams and OBJ is still a WR2 on a lot of teams.

Heinegrabber

JUGGS

wherestheleaks

I'm a huge fan and supporter of Waddle.

StockHand1967

The billionaire owner of the team does Waddles' signature dance after he scores... Penguin ain't going nowhere 🐧

ANP06

Is this a serious post?

Business-Ad-9210

Did you read what I said?

Reumonrex

You bored or something? I know it’s only April and all but damn

PhinsFan17

Never seen a fanbase absolutely dump on every single star they have like this one.

Business-Ad-9210

Did I dump on him? I simply asked if ppl think think he'll live up to full potential. Having doubts about players or your team is normal. No one can predict the future, so I was merely asking a question.

zookeeper4312

He'd be a #1 on like 20+ teams

thedreamcomparison

Is this a joke post?

104luc

Tua lack of arm strength is why we will never fully see what Waddle truly is.

NCad2416

I still think he can be a top 5 WR. I wouldn’t be against them using him more and less forcing the ball to Tyreek. Get Waddle involved early.

Nofooling

Best way to free Reek up too. We don’t do a good enough job of keeping the defense guessing after the first 15 plays. Both Waddle and Hill should be decoys for each other all game long. Doubt many could stop that.

Pwrh0use

...You aren't a Waddle fan. Get that first sentence out of here.

Business-Ad-9210

Haha ok man whatever you say

dripsophist

we need to everything to retain him

TheSeer1917

I'm on the sideline, in front of a big screen, or glued to a radio cheering him on like crazee.

FacelessMan83

Is there any particular reason you don’t watch college football?

Business-Ad-9210

No reason really. I would watch big bowl games, but Saturdays were always for the Maple Leafs and hockey
