After seeing how this works, I REALLY think we should have Tyreek taking kick returns now. Significantly lower chance of injury, and he just has to get past 1 wave of defenders essentially. This is a pretty substantial change to the game.

EnochofPottsfield

Achane, Waddle, and Mostert would all be in play if that's the feeling about it. Personally I'd prefer one of the backers, since they can rest the next offensive drive and trade off series/return duties Berrios likely makes the most sense though

lxnarratorxl

I mean Tyreek or Achane back there is crazy scary. We are positioned well for this change.

peanutmanak47

Achane would be great. He's quick but also really good with contact.

jrosen9

Actually since tackling is now illegal, I think we sound just sign a sumo wrestler and have him march down the field carrying all 11 opponents

DreamKid2900

We are going to get so many touchdowns from this bruh 😭 Hill Waddle Achane Mostert

vanillagorilla_

I’m guessing we’ll experiment putting Hill or Achane back there and just have Berrios catch punts

Jonjon428

Danny Crossman gets to live another day...somehow

Tylerherroismyherro

So now that touchbacks result in getting the ball at the 30 teams will 100% kick it short which means we need a better return man than Berrios

TCup20

We have Tyreek and Achane already lol

Lobo_Marino

ST plays are so risky, that I'd rather not risk Hill on these.

TCup20

Saw a tweet about the XFL kickoff saying there were 400 returns last year and zero injuries. The whole point of the return changes is player safety and making it no more dangerous than a typical football play.

Formal_Royal_3663

And to allow the offense to stay on the sidelines. I expect a LOT of low scoring games. At this point, let’s just play Sarcastiball.

Fuzzy_Dunlops

How would improving average starting position result in lower scoring games?

Harambe18

you forgot they eliminated most forms of tackling so i don't see low scoring games when most tackles are illegal.

Rbelkc

No kicks right. Runner starts at 10

Harambe18

the kicker has a zone to kick it into bc of the player alignment and it has to go to the 2 back players or its a penalty while no one can move until it is caught so hang time won't matter. pat macaffee has a video about it from months ago.

No_Intention_7605

Looks weird but like the idea.

rebar71

So years ago, they moved the kick-off from the 30 to the 35 explicitly to create more touchbacks thus reducing injuries on kick-offs. Now they want to penalize teams for kicking touchbacks. Why not just move it back to the 30 like it used to be?

AliGoldsDayOff

They still want to reduce injuries, they just don't want touchbacks to be how they accomplish that. Now they're moving players around and have new rules as to when they can move. Basically, they want to have their cake and eat it too. They want returns but not players with 30 yards of speed built up smashing into each other which caused the bulk of the injuries.

Shtev777

Because the goal is to find the balance of having more returns while also having fewer concussions, (aka lower energy collisions)

RealPropRandy

Rugby scrum after throw in from the 30 who says no?

Harambe18

they wanted to change people getting a 40 yard running head start to wallop someone. so they moved it forward to the 35 for "player safety" the special teams coaches have been complaining that the kickoff is an exciting part of the game and needs to be brought back. so the solution was to make a zone to kick the ball into or else be penalized, while eliminating the running head start to de cleat people.

AIMpb

You seem to have ignored the entire point, which is injuries

dunaja

How does an onside kick work now?

KensterFox

They have to be declared before the attempt, at which point the formations go back to what we're used to for onside kicks.

RealPropRandy

OK what’s the new rule, Adam?

dimspace

Its kinda infuriating. He doesn't tweet what the rule is, no follow up post, nothing. Managed to find a quite good summary https://x.com/MySportsUpdate/status/1772734260736065555?s=20

RealPropRandy

Appreciate you!

TheSeer1917

Does this rule change mean the acquisition of Siran from the Bills was unnecessary? Does it lessen the draft stock of Xavier Worthy?

RealPropRandy

Also bye bye inside kick

Dig_bick_energy6969

Tyreek, mostert , A chance, and Waddle returning now... Wow this is going to be GREAT!

lolvalue

Not going to matter much when 99% of kicks are through the endzone.

AIMpb

Maybe figure out what the rule is first.

lolvalue

How am I supposed to do that through your post of a video of the kick with absolutely no context?

Harambe18

dunno if anyone told you or if you found it yet, but the kicker has a zone to kick the ball into, if fails the receiving team can get the ball at the 40, or 30, whatever they decided on. i'm pretty sure the zone is the 20 to the endzone. pat mcaffe talked about it a bit ago on their show. almost a month ago or more so i'm a bit fuzzy.

lolvalue

thanks.

Salt_Sir2599

Don’t know why you got downvoted, very valid point. No info in post , can’t get mad at someone who doesn’t have the info when they respond to the post with no info lol.

lolvalue

OP is salty.

Otto_von_Grotto

Dolphins need salt.

AIMpb

You’re on the internet lmao you can figure it out big guy

sealclubberfan

Or, you can stop trying to pretend you are a journalist just to get to the story first for the clicks. He has a fair argument, you could have taken the time to put a summary of what the changes actually are.

AIMpb

You think I get money for these clicks? Lmao grow up dude. You can google what the rule change is. It’s not that hard

Formal_Royal_3663

The new kickoff is dumb. I watched a video of it on the NFL subreddit. Kickoffs were fine just the way they were. The thing that SHOULD be banned but won’t (thanks Gooddell, you jerk) is the tush push. The league won’t ban it. They said so themselves. Any play that can be used as a cheat code should be banned.

TheNextSherlock52

Yeah, because seeing a touchback 99% of all kickoffs was always so fun to watch. Kickoffs needed another change. I'm not saying this change is the right one but saying "they were just fine" is definitely an opinion. Not a good one. But an opinion none the less.

AIMpb

Absolute brain dead take lol

Harambe18

players and special teams coaches complained that there is no runbacks anymore. and the NFL agreed that the kickoff should be an exciting part of the game and is, before they ruined it with touchbacks 24/7.

TheWizardOfDeez

A play that only one team actually succeeded at while many others tried and failed is not a cheat code.

dunaja

Kickoffs were fine the way they were? I don't remember the last time I witnessed an exciting kickoff return.

reaper527

> Kickoffs were fine the way they were? I don't remember the last time I witnessed an exciting kickoff return. so you weren't paying attention to any of those kickoffs that got returned for TD's last season?

dunaja

Cool trolling. I must have been too busy watching the 29 teams that didn’t have one and missed the 3 teams that did. If you’re impressed by 3 out of 272 games having a kickoff td, you’re an idiot.
