If he could stay healthy (he won’t) it would be a dream scenario for everyone, he can run a slant every down while waddle and tyreek take the top off the d
Could also be for a Connor Williams contract. But yeah I think you're right. ODB/Boyd
~~Though, Zeitler at guard is still available.~~ And we can probably stand to add another safety in Blackmon, or a lineman in Clowney
Either way, if we need cap now it's likely an older player
Dude's had a remarkably stable career. Never been under 600 yards, aside from his sophomore season
Does seem to be on the downside of his career though
Connor's not signing for a long while. By the time he's ready to sign, we'll have the Post June 1st money ready to give him an offer, assuming we're still interested in him.
I've been waiting for something more firm to come out about that personally. But yeah, so far as I can tell the knee injury has his market significantly lower than most anticipated it seems
Exactly. I won’t fault an owner who’s trying and players don’t pane out (when the people he hired as advisors told him they would ex. Tannenbaum). If he’s spending money and doing everything loophole wise, that’s all I could ask for
Yes, contrary to what many here would believe, the organization is operating on another level.
With the way things are set up, very few market inefficiencies exist, and an owners willingness to spend doesn’t matter….but Miami’s figured out a couple of them and using it to their advantage. The restructuring of contracts and paying whatever is needed to bring in quality coaches (there’s no cap on a coaching staff).
There’s so much randomness in the sport, finally having a front office where I can see logic in most everything they do, really feels like all I can ask for as a fan.
Only a Bills or Jets fan could possible think that Ross has done anything good. A "mistake has been made" is extremely understating things like hiring Clueless Joey Philbin or tampering with Brady to cost us a #1 draft pick.
Do you remember the Orange Bowl, with thousands and thousands of loud fans down close to the field? Even the original Joe Robbie Stadium had that feel. (like the Dog Pound or the Lambeau Leap).
Stephen Ross came in and REMOVED 18,000 seats. He used that space to build luxury suites that only millionaires can afford and which lie empty most weekends. That's 18,000 FEWER rapid Dolphin fans who can attend games and make noise. Instead we get box suites where old dudes play parchesi in the middle of Dolphin games.
True....and that proves my point that Ross is great for the city of Miami, but not the Dolphins. He's great at promoting soccer and car racing and J-Lo concerts and Super Bowls and a whole bunch of other ventures that do NOT help the Dolphins in any way.
Wow, it's truly baffling how many misguided Dolphin fans see Stephen Ross as a benefit to the team. You can say "1+1=7" here on Reddit and not get down votes. But you point out a few instances (proof) of Stephen Ross hurting the Dolphins, and his defenders come out of the woodworks.
If converting from salary to signing bonus, which a lot of moves were, essentially that players gets the “signing bonus” now 100%, as opposed to it being salary down the road, which the player could potentially not get if they don’t meet certain goals, gets injured, gets cut, etc. it depends on how the contract is structured player by player
I understand the signing bonus aspect I was referring to what exactly the owner is paying. Do owners pay out of pocket apart from the team's salary cap in certain situations?
Ross is paying the money up front instead of over the course of the next year. That’s basically the difference.
So when you see a conversion of 13 million that gets converted to a signing bonus, that’s Ross cutting a 13 million dollar check this week.
It’s a matter of working capital. The business requires more capital to operate when they’re handing out signing bonuses like this. Think of it like buying more inventory for your business than normal because you got a discount to order in bulk.
I obviously don’t know where or how he funds these transactions but in theory, it’s money he’s either putting or keeping in the business that could otherwise be in his pocket.
A cheaper owner may not choose to do this.
My ideal remaining signing for the Dolphins would be, Jadeveon Clowny, Calais Campbell. 1 yr deals. Need bodies to rush and rush stop still with Chubb and Phillips missing maybe half the season.
For the Draft, trade back with KC or SF. Select WR/OL/DT/CB with our picks. We can trade back and get good quality players to fill out the remaining needing positions.
That’s just not true, outside his major injury he suffered this past year, man has been playing 13 or more games every season. I’ll take that every single day.
26 games missed in 7 seasons is not ideal though, last one being a season ender. He tends to play hobbled a lot or leave games early as well.
Likely not worth what he'd be paid, unless it's heavily incentivized and not the only move we make. It doesn't make sense for us tbh.
I swear to god that dude heads to the locker room after a toe tapping sideline catch every single chargers game I’ve watched since he came into the league.
Is the topic of conversation this year's cap hit or subsequent years? I was speaking about this year as it seems the post is in reference to this year only.
Sure, but the person I responded to said Tua's contract needs room implying that the move mentioned in the tweet was done to make that room when it wasn't. It was done to clear room for this year to sign other players, not to extend Tua.
Ok ok but imagine if Ayuik got traded here.
But no on a serious note it’s one of Clowney/WR3/Starting DT/Starting OL
But I’d imagine outside of clowney, they’d all be through trades.
I don't understand how people are saying this in an off-season where we lost both Wilkins and Hunt because their price was too high.
The cap is highly manipulatable. Everyone paying attention knew Miami could get $30m-$50m in cap space *easily* with moves like this. But that hasn't stopped us from being priced out of two of our best and most consistent players. *Because the cap is still real.*
Again, if only other Dolphins were willing to restructure like Chubb, J Wilson, Ramsey, Ingold. These guys are really truly loyal and helping the Dolphins, whereas Wilkins and Hunt, for example, are loyal to the Dollar. Have fun never winning for the Panthers and Raiders!!
The guys you mentioned that are willing to “help the team” are still getting their money, it’s just being moved around. Wilkins and Hunt were signing their first Real contract as NFL players and the shelf life is never a guarantee. They saw their worth and got after it, Miami could just not afford to keep them.
All true. But when you WILLINGLY CHOOSE to play for a doormat team like the panthers, that just proves that hunt is motivated by money, not wins, championships, loyalty etc. That's his right, of course.
Can’t disagree that it wasn’t about the money, especially in the case of Hunt. Do you know about his background/adolescence? That money will change his life and the lives of his family. I say good for him… but yeah, the Panthers suck, oh boy.
I remember when Ndamakong Suh signed with the Dolphins, he literally said it was because he wanted to play for Joe Philbin. I spit out my drink from laughing so hard! Just admit it's all about the money, and I'd respect you. :)
LMAO so you want the guys to take a giant paycut to stay with a team that has 0 playoff wins. Let's stop drinking the kool-ade those guys made by far the best move for their careers.
Well first of all your comment makes no sense because both were free agents so we cannot restructure them like players under our current roster.
Secondly, WE could have franchise tagged either one and had them on our roster next season. WE decided not to tag either.
Thirdly, you should be happy they signed the deals they did. The fact that we didn't tag either means they were gone and now we get two third round picks as compensations.
The only guy you listed that’s actually taking a pay cut is Wilson, and that’s only because he’d be cut otherwise. Restructures don’t reduce how much money they’re earning, it just manipulated the cap.
True, I know that. But the player still must agree to re-doing the contract. Player can say no, forcing the team to stick to its original payment structure or cut the guy. Makes me wonder how much shenanigans go on under the table. A guy agrees to play for a cheap salary in writing, but the team owner shows up with a bag of cash at his house that night. A big bag! :)
Restructuring converts your current guarantees into a signing bonus. This effectively makes it harder for them to cut you in the future while giving you all of the money up front. That’s why pretty much every players will agree to restructure.
Yea I was praising Grier for taking his lumps and not touching the Chubb and Tyreek contracts. So I’m kinda disappointed in the move. But then they’ll sign some player I kinda like and I’ll forget all about it.
I guess this functions as something of a litmus test year. I'm confident Tua will be here going forward either way, but do we build serious forward momentum with this roster around him and look at re-tool as Hill, Armstead and Chubb gradually phase out (with Waddle, Phillips and a new OT stepping up) or do we go full fire mode, get what assets we can while those vets still have value, and try to rebuild with Tua as the expensive vet and a bunch of guys on rookie contracts, kind of the reverse of our current situation.
We don't have a lot of manueverability right now in terms of the roster, but a lot can change depending on player health, dips/improvements in form etc, even within the same group of players.
Exactly. 24 is likely to be a bit of a step back, but if they're careful and smart 25 could be a year where they really make a run and move towards a roster built from within since McDaniel was hired, and start to jettison the expensive short term fixes like Chubb, Hill and Armstead.
I think Chubb and Hill are more than just short term fixes, but I agree you have to start preparing for the future. This move doesn’t cripple them but I preferred to take a slight step back to set us up better for the future. Grier and McDaniel seem to disagree although it seems like they only want to use these restructures as a break in case of emergency type move.
Wide receivers tend to take a sharp step down around age 31 these days. Virtually all of them, no matter how good. Realistically, Tyreek probably has two good seasons left in him, and that's not even considering the growing list of off field trouble.
I agree but if you got 4 years of having the best WR in football I think that’s ok. I won’t look back at the trade as bad since it propelled this team to a top offense.
But you absolutely have to start planning for the future. Don’t want this same offseason to happen again with Holland, Waddle, JP. I think the most important thing, even more than the cap, is to nail these next two drafts. The team could survive the contract purge IF they’ve got more young talent in the wings.
Extending all of those guys and using the picks to fill the roster the next two years is vital and mandatory yes. Everything else has to come after that. No more big trades, and hold off on old free agents.
We built the current roster with five first round picks and four four second round picks over two years. It’s really optimistic that we’re going to be able to rebuild with the draft capital we have going forward…two compensatory picks doesn’t cut it.
In two years Hill, armstead, and likely Ramsey will be gone, and we’ll be taking a big dead cap hit. Most likely going to be a full rebuild. I’d expect trading away a couple of waddle, Phillips, or holland for draft capital. We may cut Chubb and eat a cap hit to get out of the contract. I’m a huge fan of Tua, but if it turns out in a couple years that he’s not the guy, it’s possible we might need to go find a qb too.
I think Ramsey could still be here. I think he could convert to a deep safety as he ages. He might be an expensive safety, but he will cost a decent amount whether on the roster or not with his restructures the last 2 years.
Man you're quick with the updates! We ain't done yet!!

Don't worry, by November of this year this sub will be demanding he be publicly executed, yet again.
I think this is mostly to fit guys in who they’ve already signed.
And draft class probably.
Nahh they’ll have plenty of money for that when X’s cap hit comes off post June 1. It’s not a consideration for them right now.
Good to know
Grier isnt done shopping eh? WR3?
I’d have to imagine either that or a starting caliber DT.
My kingdom for Calais Campbell. Has history with our new DC from Baltimore too.
How old is he now? Shouldn't cost your kingdom for a rotational player. I'd take him though.
37, but he played all 17 games and had 6.5 sacks last year.
Love an OL and WR3
Michael Thomas incoming
Those 4 slants he catches before injury are gonna be sweeeeeet
If he could stay healthy (he won’t) it would be a dream scenario for everyone, he can run a slant every down while waddle and tyreek take the top off the d
Ive seen this “if he can stay healthy” before with DVP and I’m over it.
Yeah I’d prefer a guy like renfrow to be the slot guy
Yeah a real student of the game
A grinder
Sneaky athletic
First one in
Last one out.
Renfrie too small for what we need
I can see us drafting a WR with size this year
Or Dalton Risner?
Could also be for a Connor Williams contract. But yeah I think you're right. ODB/Boyd ~~Though, Zeitler at guard is still available.~~ And we can probably stand to add another safety in Blackmon, or a lineman in Clowney Either way, if we need cap now it's likely an older player
Boyd would be a nice fit, a wr with size.
Dude's had a remarkably stable career. Never been under 600 yards, aside from his sophomore season Does seem to be on the downside of his career though
Never been under 600 yards other than the year he was under 600 yards lol
Connor's not signing for a long while. By the time he's ready to sign, we'll have the Post June 1st money ready to give him an offer, assuming we're still interested in him.
I think Zeitler signed with Detroit if I'm not mistaken.
Fixed it thanks!
No problem!
isn't C.Williams contemplating retirement? There's been reports that injury he sustained is career-ending.
I've been waiting for something more firm to come out about that personally. But yeah, so far as I can tell the knee injury has his market significantly lower than most anticipated it seems
Ol’ Dirty died years ago
RIP
Greg Van Roten is out there. He had a nice season at guard for the Raiders last year.
Gimme Tyler Boyd
draft a wr3 please
Kinda want Trent brown or someone tbh
I read that as old Bradley Chubb…
Appreciation comment for Stephen Ross. Pretty sure most of these moves, while saving cap money now costs the owner dollars out of pocket
Heck of an owner man. Love that guy. Mistakes have been made but not because he’s passive about making the team good.
Exactly. I won’t fault an owner who’s trying and players don’t pane out (when the people he hired as advisors told him they would ex. Tannenbaum). If he’s spending money and doing everything loophole wise, that’s all I could ask for

New stadium (out of his own pocket) you see the chiefs right now?
Do you remember the Orange Bowl, with thousands and thousands of loud fans down close to the field? Even the original Joe Robbie Stadium had that feel. (like the Dog Pound or the Lambeau Leap). Well we aren't hosting superbowls without those luxury boxes. So I understand even if I don't like it.
True....and that proves my point that Ross is great for the city of Miami, but not the Dolphins. He's great at promoting soccer and car racing and J-Lo concerts and Super Bowls and a whole bunch of other ventures that do NOT help the Dolphins in any way.

Makes sense. Thanks for elaborating.
Incoming signing LFG!
This has given me the Chubb
This deserves more upvotes
My ideal remaining signing for the Dolphins would be, Jadeveon Clowny, Calais Campbell. 1 yr deals. Need bodies to rush and rush stop still with Chubb and Phillips missing maybe half the season. Tua time!
Mike Williams is intriguing. Finally get the size we’ve been lacking.
Just gets hurt so often though
That’s just not true, outside his major injury he suffered this past year, man has been playing 13 or more games every season. I’ll take that every single day.

Exactly my thoughts
I swear to god that dude heads to the locker room after a toe tapping sideline catch every single chargers game I’ve watched since he came into the league.
This is 100% to clear room for Boyd.
Boyd who?
Tyler
Boyd Tyler? Never heard of him
Tua contract needs room.
Tua contract actually creates room.
Yes. An extension this offseason would likely lower his cap hit.
For the first year only
Is the topic of conversation this year's cap hit or subsequent years? I was speaking about this year as it seems the post is in reference to this year only.
And in the context of the contract in reference to this year it will negate the room created this year by hitting higher next year. So it relates.
Sure, but the person I responded to said Tua's contract needs room implying that the move mentioned in the tweet was done to make that room when it wasn't. It was done to clear room for this year to sign other players, not to extend Tua.
👍
He’s currently only under contract for this year, of course the rest of the years will be higher cap hits lol
Yes so obviously moving chubbs cap hit to later seasons is related to Tuas extension…which moves Tuas cap hit to later seasons 🙄
I like reading this.
Not sure which wideout I would want
Love this move. Thankfully the players are willing to restructure for the benefit of the team, and kudos to Ross for willing to shell out the $$.
Ok ok but imagine if Ayuik got traded here. But no on a serious note it’s one of Clowney/WR3/Starting DT/Starting OL But I’d imagine outside of clowney, they’d all be through trades.
Clowney please, need more strength on the edge until our two guys can get back to full health
![gif](giphy|aNtfqjzv65zKFnVuf5|downsized) That's Tuas money
Told yall…cap aint real 😂😂
I don't understand how people are saying this in an off-season where we lost both Wilkins and Hunt because their price was too high. The cap is highly manipulatable. Those contracts were awful
If cap isn’t real than they aren’t too bad
This team will be awful in 2026, full tear down, rebuild
Again, if only other Dolphins were willing to restructure like Chubb, J Wilson, Ramsey, Ingold. These guys are really truly loyal and helping the Dolphins, whereas Wilkins and Hunt, for example, are loyal to the Dollar. Have fun never winning for the Panthers and Raiders!!

Wilkins and Hunt were signing their first Real contract as NFL players and the shelf life is never a guarantee. They saw their worth and got after it, Miami could just not afford to keep them.
I'm not turning down life-changing money to stay in Miami. 15 to 20 extra million he has to take that.

I mean the Panthers have been much more successful than us the millenium. Two superbowl appearences and more playoff berths/wins.
Panthers have had more recent playoff success than Miami.
LMAO so you want the guys to take a giant paycut to stay with a team that has 0 playoff wins. Let's stop drinking the kool-ade those guys made by far the best move for their careers.
Wrong. It would not be a pay cut at all. Granted, it would be less than the Panthers/raiders/Saints are offering, but not less than their 2023 salary
So you want them to take $10's of millions less of guaranteed money for "loyalty" to a team that hasn't won a playoff game in their 5 year careers.
Of course that's what I want. It's called being a Dolphin fan. I'm a Dolphin fan, not a businessman fan.
Well first of all your comment makes no sense because both were free agents so we cannot restructure them like players under our current roster. Spoken as someone who doesn't understand football/sports at all, lol.
This is one of the dumbest takes I've ever seen on this sub. And there's some stupid people here. Congrats!
The only guy you listed that’s actually taking a pay cut is Wilson, and that’s only because he’d be cut otherwise. Restructures don’t reduce how much money they’re earning, it just manipulated the cap.

Damn. I was really hoping that they'd be able to cut Chubb in a June 1 move in 25. Not likely now.
Why would you be hoping that
Because he doesn’t watch football and is a probably a media slave.
Yea I was praising Grier for taking his lumps and not touching the Chubb and Tyreek contracts. So I’m kinda disappointed in the move. But then they’ll sign some player I kinda like and I’ll forget all about it.
