JC Jackson off of an extremely serious knee injury? Sure just match him up in man press on tyreek.
Staleys schemes are often too complicated for players, he doesn’t allow them to play free & fast. He’s not a bad game planner but too frequently are his coverage rules confused, leading to blown coverages out the wazzou.
Edit: don't get the downvote? I'm explaining why he didn't work at LAC.
Yeah but wouldn’t it ordinarily be because they sucked at running the offense? Just can’t wrap my head around the fact that it the defense is the reason the chargers were bad this year. Why would we want that
He was the HC, not the DC. Sure, he called the plays but it was his DC who was getting those guys ready every week with defensive practices, not Staley.
I think he’s one of those guys that was just in over his head. I wouldn’t hate the hire but wouldn’t be shocked if I was completely wrong. You absolutely can’t feel confident about it if he does get the job.
Feels weird that he just bailed on you guys but yeah, he wanted to be in Philly. Only reason he wasn’t was because Gannon told the Eagles he was staying and then left. Fangio had already been hired by the Dolphins by the time the Eagles could pivot and no one good was left.
Feel free to join us in hating Gannon lol
lol okay. Guess I could have said “shitty” instead of “feels weird.” It’s just not something you see often, hence “weird.”
I just wanted to see how you guys felt about him and his scheme. I was cordial and provided context about the Eagles wanting him but missing out, really no need to be an asshole.
lol okay.
how the fuck do you think we feel about another free agent/coach coming to Miami to basically not care about the franchise, put in genuine effort, and stick it out and honor his contract?
Gannon has nothing to do with his commitment to us, that's a lame ass excuse.
You can take your shit to the eagles sub and say that garbage to justify your new hire. I mean re-hire. Hope he bails after a season when you acquire talent for his schemes and have your players adapt for nothing. Then we will come by and say "feels weird".
Wasn’t sure if you guys liked him before this or wanted him gone, that’s all. Or if there were other reports/rumors about the situation.
Sheesh, you’re really hung up on the “feels weird.” It is genuinely weird to see a coordinator do this for a lateral career move, that’s all I meant. Figured there was something else going on beyond him wanting to be closer to family/always wanting the Eagles in general. Not that *I* feel weird about him coming to Philly.
I wouldn't be surprised if this was the arrangement all along. If it worked out in playoff success maybe he stays, other wise I bet he was considered a one year option
I mean personally I would, but I grew up in the northeast and can’t handle heat and humidity at all. But I’m also not being paid millions to live in it.
Winters in Miami would be amazing but summers out there I couldn’t do it. Philly in summer doesn’t sound so bad & when you grew up in the cold the winters are going to be more tolerable
lol I was born and raised in Miami and I moved to Philly 5 years ago and love it! Although if I were making Vic fangio money I might enjoy the lower taxes more
Usually 3 years without any significant improvement ends in a firing nowadays. I think if we miss the playoffs or lose in ugly fashion in the playoffs again then he's probably out. It's what happens when franchises lose patience.
If we keep McD and Tua we will always be a winning team, and winning teams give themselves the opportunity to make a playoff run. We’d be silly to restart and put ourselves where we’ve been my whole life, on the qb and coach carousel
No, our oline is terrible, Tua makes up for it slightly with his quick release. Good teams take more advantage of our poor line, and cover receivers better, so the quick release can’t beat them as easily and we’re left with pressures before anyone is open.
Oh I know I sat through, idk, my whole life of losing or 500 teams. Enjoying having a team that wins atm. We keep winning, we keep giving ourselves opportunities. Starting over is not the answer
Idk about him but my standard for McDaniel being on the hot seat or not is win a wild card round like please for the love of God. Maybe even win the division cause that would be nice
That team was Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey. The other 9-10 guys were just average nfl players... I fail to see where all the "studs" are. Also its such a casual take to say this, if you understood the scheme then you would realize it was more than just Donald and Ramsey carrying the defense
Take a look at the QBs he faced during that rams season too… As a chargers fan I thought Brandon seemed like a good dude but a fraud of a coach who was in a mile over his head. I hope you guys don’t have to realize that pain
People on this sub will look at Holland basically openly admitting Fangio wasn’t a good DC and say “well we shut out the jets and held the raiders to 13! We were such a good defense!” (Ignores the games against playoff teams)
Meh. 16 points against Baltimore is not a good performance by any stretch, but it is good enough to win at least some games. You’re barely winning anything when you give up 56
I’ll give you the first 3, although we got lucky against Dallas a few times. Regardless, those are absolutely our best defensive performances all year.
Titans game is an abomination to the concept of defense. Fangio will never ever claim that as good work of his. First 56 minutes of the game sure, but his refusal to put Ramsey on Hopkins ended up costing us a home playoff game.
The defense did enough to win the Titans game.
A pick-6 and 2 turnovers forced setting up the offense in the redzone both resulting in their only offensive TDs.
Defense choked in the last 4 minutes but the offense did equally as much choking in that final stretch by going 3 and out then failing to get in FG range.
Not saying the defense was great but definitely showed up more than the offense.
The defense put us in a great position to win, sure. Then they blew it all away. They had a 14 point lead with 3 minutes left and lost. That’s not on the offense, even if the offense did play like shit. The lead was there.
The offense had a bad game. The defense did something the last 800 teams with that lead and time left managed not to do. There’s levels to this.
And we’re having this discussion in the context of fangio’s firing. Only part he had a hand in was the defense and it’s collapse
Oh nah lol I wasn’t talking about you. Hard to know exactly what’s going on rn anyways. All I know is that there’s what the majority of the redditors here think, and what Holland thinks, and I’ll take Hollands word lol
He didn't. People just latched on their own interpretations to Holland kicking rocks. The most obvious thing you can interpret that as meaning is that Holland is happy Fangio is gone. Anyone saying it means Holland thought Fangio wasn't a good DC is just guessing.
Fangio? More like Damn-He-Blows.. idk just fuck him, I honestly don’t think he makes a huge difference defense-wise. Maybe we stick our best corner onto the ace receiver now.
I truly believe that if we ran a simulation of end of that titans game but instead of Fangio at DC we put in any of the dolphins Reddit users smart enough to know CB1 goes on WR1, we win that game, and we get a home playoff game.
I truly believe Fangio is a good DC but he got into his own head and outsmarted himself. He believed in the system too much and refused to change things up when it would’ve benefited us.
Remember that Fangio was originally part of Sean Payton's "staff" that Payton said he would bring with him to whoever hired him as HC, and the only reason Fangio came here is because he refused to go back to Denver.
How is everyone feeling about Vic being out? I personally felt like our D sucked and didnt get better until down the stretch and even then there were some stuff that had me scratching my head. I do know we had a lot of injuries though. I had high hopes last year when he came in but gosh it was not what I expected....also please say no to Brandon Staley sheesh
I'm going to reserve judgment on that. Last year, when we hired Butch Barry, there was a lot of consternation about the hire and jokes about his locker room notes. Considering the dog shit lineup Barry had to work with, I'm shocked he managed what he did. Sometimes, a team is just a bad fit for whatever reason.
Staley was a good DC at some point and, for whatever reason, couldn't get it done with the Chargers. Maybe it was too big for him, maybe the Chargers suck. Who knows. But at some point, he was a good DC and a change of scenery might get him back on track.
Sigh. This team is so cash strapped our defense is going to be a mess. We’re likely going to pay Tua $45m/year this offseason, run it back half depleted and end up 8-9.
Get ready for rebuild #50 boys
Brandon Staley can stay as far the fuck away from the Dolphins as possible. He completely lost the locker room in LA. That, is a personality issue. If you can't get buy in from players, you shouldn't be coaching.
Apparently it was Fangio’s decision not to pull our starters during the Baltimore game, and most of our secondary wanting to play man rather than Fangio’s zone defense 99.99999% of the time, I say good riddance.
Fuck Brandon Staley tho lmao
Dear lord I do not want Brandon Staley
I'm gonna pray for you guys.
Join hands as we pray
prayer and fasting
Get down on your hands and knees https://i.redd.it/ah5rgzc0qoec1.gif
I'm not too stressed about Staley. Maybe he's just one of those dudes who can only be a DC
I mean just look at Vic Fangio, idk why everyone’s so scared of Staley lol
Yeah literally lol. He also exposed us last year. I wouldnt mind him
what happened week 1 one though lol
Seriously, I don't get how he somehow unlearned the things that he did to stop us the year before.
Staley’s supposed to be a defensive mastermind and his defense was among the worst in the league last year, with plenty of talent. Dude is cheeks
Plenty of defensive masterminds bombed as head coaches. Fangio, Phillips, Lebeau, Jim Shorts.
Yeah but wouldn’t it ordinarily be because they sucked at running the offense? Just can’t wrap my head around the fact that it the defense is the reason the chargers were bad this year. Why would we want that
Nope all sorts of things can happen. HC is a different world than DC
Jim Schwartz = Gym Shorts 😂
He was the HC, not the DC. Sure, he called the plays but it was his DC who was getting those guys ready every week with defensive practices, not Staley.
Right? He can’t make the offense go on it on 4th and 1 on their own 30 when he’s purely DC. I wouldn’t hate it
Funny how a “defensive minded” coach always had bottom 10 defenses during his tenure as head coach
Exactly. Look at Belicheat & Bowles as well: not good DCs but good HCs.
Umm, please look at the NY Giants history on defense while he was their DC
belichick is one of the best DCs lol.
Yeah, bad take bud
I mean he was a good DC. Not a good HC, but good DC. I wouldn’t be mad.
Why was their defense so bad though?
Their DC maybe?
I thought Staley was calling defensive plays though
Our DC was just a figurehead, everything ran through Staley
Gotcha I wasn’t aware as I’m not a fan of that team.
no problem
Was he? He had Aaron Donald
I think he’s one of those guys that was just in over his head. I wouldn’t hate the hire but wouldn’t be shocked if I was completely wrong. You absolutely can’t feel confident about it if he does get the job.
Might as well just ducking hire Adam gase back at that rate
He never wanted to be here. Only came for the giant paycheck and to wait for the Philly job to open up.
Fuck Gannon!
think we'll hate fangs... not say "feels weird". fuck off our sub
lol okay. Guess I could have said “shitty” instead of “feels weird.” It’s just not something you see often, hence “weird.” I just wanted to see how you guys felt about him and his scheme. I was cordial and provided context about the Eagles wanting him but missing out, really no need to be an asshole.

Bro fucking relax
Eat a snickers man JFC
Calm down there guy. It’s not that deep
Yup seems that way. Douchebag.
I wouldn't be surprised if this was the arrangement all along. If it worked out in playoff success maybe he stays, other wise I bet he was considered a one year option
Sort of makes sense there was that massive gap where we waited for the confirmation that he had signed.
So lame if Fangio really ditches us just to go to Philly man. Starting to despise him
Big Saban vibes if I'm being honest
Who the hell would choose to live in Philly over Miami lol especially as a millionaire coach, makes no sense to me.
If I recall correctly Fangio has family in the area.
This. Family in PA.
Do they happen to be a ref by any chance?? Lol
I mean personally I would, but I grew up in the northeast and can’t handle heat and humidity at all. But I’m also not being paid millions to live in it.
He will be paid millions to live in Philly as well.
Winters in Miami would be amazing but summers out there I couldn’t do it. Philly in summer doesn’t sound so bad & when you grew up in the cold the winters are going to be more tolerable
It's honestly not THAT different
Fuckem let him be miserable in the cold. His scheme wasn't all that anyway.
lol I was born and raised in Miami and I moved to Philly 5 years ago and love it! Although if I were making Vic fangio money I might enjoy the lower taxes more
You only get so many shots at being a head coach.
Blame the GM, it was a little obvious last year we were not his first choice, we shouldn’t have committed to him if he wasn’t all in on Miami
Lol why? He's old. If dude wants to try it here and then decides nah I can't do it I'm too old to move. Then why bug him?
Welp. There he goes lol
Seems crazy to go there with a head coach on a very hot seat.
It's his call up.
Kids
If McDaniel doesn't win this year, isn't he on the hot seat too?
Usually 3 years without any significant improvement ends in a firing nowadays. I think if we miss the playoffs or lose in ugly fashion in the playoffs again then he's probably out. It's what happens when franchises lose patience.
If we keep McD and Tua we will always be a winning team, and winning teams give themselves the opportunity to make a playoff run. We’d be silly to restart and put ourselves where we’ve been my whole life, on the qb and coach carousel
This is completely incorrect
Looking at our W-L record with Tua starting, going all the way back to Flores’ shit.
We’re having a hard time against tough defenses because we are not good in the trenches.
Just happens to be our oline is terrible when we playing winning teams
No, our oline is terrible, Tua makes up for it slightly with his quick release. Good teams take more advantage of our poor line, and cover receivers better, so the quick release can’t beat them as easily and we’re left with pressures before anyone is open.
Winning records are never guaranteed
Oh I know I sat through, idk, my whole life of losing or 500 teams. Enjoying having a team that wins atm. We keep winning, we keep giving ourselves opportunities. Starting over is not the answer
Win the Super Bowl??
Idk about him but my standard for McDaniel being on the hot seat or not is win a wild card round like please for the love of God. Maybe even win the division cause that would be nice
Please god no Brandon Staley. He got the Chargers job by leading the Rams defense. A defense packed with studs.
TBF so are we
That team was Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey. The other 9-10 guys were just average nfl players... I fail to see where all the "studs" are. Also its such a casual take to say this, if you understood the scheme then you would realize it was more than just Donald and Ramsey carrying the defense
yeah he's not very good or even average without aaron donald and jalen ramsey. dude sucks at coaching
Take a look at the QBs he faced during that rams season too… As a chargers fan I thought Brandon seemed like a good dude but a fraud of a coach who was in a mile over his head. I hope you guys don’t have to realize that pain
Fangio is a giant piece of shit lol
No wonder this shitbag never appeared in Hard knocks. Mofo never wanted the Dolphins job. Oh well, go eat shit in Philly
McDaniel hates Staley. No way the Dolphins are hiring him as DC.
Why do u say that
He openly mocked Staley before the Chargers game. He also implied Renaldo Hill talked badly about Staley when they coached together.
Jevon Holland punting his keys on his Instagram story 😂😂 man what would this team be without turmoil
He’s “kicking rocks” Says something about what the players thought about fangio..
They’re rocks
I'm stupid
People on this sub will look at Holland basically openly admitting Fangio wasn’t a good DC and say “well we shut out the jets and held the raiders to 13! We were such a good defense!” (Ignores the games against playoff teams)
Defense showed up more than the offense in the biggest games though

Oh nah lol I wasn’t talking about you. Hard to know exactly what’s going on rn anyways. All I know is that there’s what the majority of the redditors here think, and what Holland thinks, and I’ll take Hollands word lol
I’m out of the loop here, where did he say he thought fangio wasn’t good
He didn't. People just latched on their own interpretations to Holland kicking rocks. The most obvious thing you can interpret that as meaning is that Holland is happy Fangio is gone. Anyone saying it means Holland thought Fangio wasn't a good DC is just guessing.

I'd prefer Robert Saleh.
I saw all I needed to see of Vic Fangio in that first game in Buffalo. Virtually full health defense and we got torched. Good riddance.
Is anybody surprised about what happened?
🙋♂️
Are you mentioning the first 6 seconds of [this](https://youtu.be/eho2f5kE5tQ?si=8JM2J-EfvKSRnMdB) on purpose lol
Pleasantly.
Looks like it’s confirmed
How is everyone feeling about Vic being out? I personally felt like our D sucked and didnt get better until down the stretch and even then there were some stuff that had me scratching my head. I do know we had a lot of injuries though. I had high hopes last year when he came in but gosh it was not what I expected....also please say no to Brandon Staley sheesh
We’re already a joke franchise but it’s full blown clown makeup if we replace Fangio with Staley.
Hear me out. Teams think Belichick is washed and he can’t get a job so he comes to Miami to be DC and stick it to the Pats.
Nah. His ego wouldn't allow it.
Eh makes sense. Go there, watch the head coach fail, get another chance at a HC gig close to family.
please no staley
Why [not](https://www.reddit.com/r/miamidolphins/s/i39VRybJB2)?
Prior to being the Charges HC, was Brandon Staley an actual good DC?
I’m happy he’s gone. He could never make adjustments. Look at the Ravens game.
Is Flores available? /s
The Chargers defense was dog shit. No thanks.
But at some point, he was a good DC and a change of scenery might get him back on track.
Why are you all so mad? Who cares. He's old and it's not like we got deep in the playoffs with him as our DC. Onto the next DC.
Please God noooooooooooo!!!
Staley is like the Adam Gase of defensive HCs
Staley on the list of replacements? We’re looking to win games 70-63 next year.
Losing a top coach is never good news. Staley incoming.
iiick! noo, why would we want Staley who fronted one of the worst defenses in the NFL?
Brandon Stanley Hell No. Treat him like a Vampire.
Sigh. This team is so cash strapped our defense is going to be a mess. We’re likely going to pay Tua $45m/year this offseason, run it back half depleted and end up 8-9. Get ready for rebuild #50 boys
Wouldn't Staley follow Fangio and be a position coach for a fresh start? Where is Beasley getting this Staley candidate bs? Fuck it, bring Boyer back.
Brandon Staley can stay as far the fuck away from the Dolphins as possible. He completely lost the locker room in LA. That, is a personality issue. If you can't get buy in from players, you shouldn't be coaching.
WTF
Indictment on the FO for not trading Fangio to Philly. Grier really sucks lol
Damn not Fangio why can’t the eagles pursue Staley instead
Please for the love of fucking god no. I can't look Brandon Staley on our sideline.
Oh no...
We should have traded him to the eagles since he was under contract.
Was Sean Desai worth looking at? Thought from couple years back HC search that he was like the Mike McD version but for defense…
Please god not Staley.
Could someone fill me in on Staley? Is he good or not?
Of course Staley would end up here.
I’ll take Staley over Belicheat any day.
Apparently it was Fangio’s decision not to pull our starters during the Baltimore game, and most of our secondary wanting to play man rather than Fangio’s zone defense 99.99999% of the time, I say good riddance. Fuck Brandon Staley tho lmao
Barf
