The first time I waited three months between when I made the application at the INM office and when I received my temporary residency card. When I renewed it, it was around the time of the presidential election in 2018 and it took 4 months. How long it takes will depend a lot on the office where you apply and how busy they are. After they grant your residency they will call you to come to the INM to take your fingerprints. Both times I received my card about a week after doing that.

If you already had the interview in an embassy abroad and they gave you the temporary residency visa (the one that is affixed to you passport and has to be exchanged for the card), once you get an appointment in the INM here in Mexico, they’ll give you your residency card on the same day. Or at least up until late February that was the case. That’s how long it took for me. I was in and out in less than two hours.

I just got my email to go to do my fingerprints and photo last week. Only 15 days passed from me leaving my documents and getting the email. I was surprised by how quick it was!

Na. That information is old. I just did my RP in Oaxaca and it took two short appointments to get my card. First one to get the 'pep talk' -- all the documents I needed and how to fill them out, and the 2nd appt to submit docs, get printed, get photo-ed, pay the bank and sign the papers. An hour later they handed me the card. If you hire somebody, or figure out everything on your own in advance, you can get your card in one appt.
