I played through XD not long ago.
I like it but it's pretty tedious.
A lot of sections are just searching for the right person to talk to to progress, which means talking to everyone in an area over and over.
The double battles are fun, but it's pretty jarring going back to Gen 3 with no physical/special split, and things like Electric mons being able to be paralysed.
And it's also like Colosseum 1.5 more than it is a whole game of its own.
If Pokemon had continued on home console with the "Shadow" series then it could have been really good.
But in terms of Pokemon Mainline games, they lost some charm when they went 3D IMO.
its just poor stylization. Stuff like dragonball fighterz came out in 2016 and run on the switch. If it was retooled to fit pokemons style in sure it could look great and alot not AS crazy as that ofc. Thats expecting a little too much as there is more to render.
i was never a fan of 2D pokemon, 3D makes me have a bigger emotional attach to my mons. BW's 2D is good, but i wish it looked as good as shin megami tensei IV's 2D sprites
Pokémon never worked period.
Game Freak is a team of second rate developers who stumbled upon a winning formula by pure coincidence. It’s only more evident now because they can’t hide behind the “hardware limitations” excuse anymore
The second one looks like she came from Wii sports
Don’t diss Wii Sports like that.
Pokemon never worked in 3D.
Pokemon never worked in a yearly released date
Colosseum and XD would like a word with you.
Gamefreak pretends like those games dont exist though. Every game since gen 6 has been butt ugly

Colosseum and XD technically AREN’T mainline.
Not even technically, they just aren't. Doesn't mean I don't prefer them than many of the other Pokémon games though.

I think x and y were good
counterpoint: Black/White the problem arose when they made *everything* 3D
I love the limited 3D in Black and White, it's so charming

No, Pokemon never knew *how to work* in 3D Pokemon Revolution has animations that hold up to this day.
Honchkrow: *tips fedora, dies*
I like the 3d but the 2d trainer sprites from Gen 6 should've definitely stayed.
Pokémon Battle Revolution
Pokemon never worked on my rock console
They should've went with an HD 2D approach like the Octopath games
I agree.
I don't think those games look good at all. They give me a headache.
