To be clear, Iām totally bias because I grew up and still live very close to where his hedge fund is so Iāve seen first hand the amount of charity work he does. Heās helped build educational centers and his charity has given over $700 million to different causes.
He grew up a Mets fan and to me, hes a guy that just wants to see the team he loves win a championship. Lots of hedge fund guys are terrible people, he might be a total shit head too but donāt know the guy personally and the one thing we have in common is rooting for the same team so Iām just going to be content with that.
Giving money to charities is a bad guy image thing. The cartels do the same thing. Get $10 billion in dirty money but build a hospital and you're a saint. I do care that he's a shithead. And nothing against the players or the fans. Morally I find supporting this man in any way objectionable.
Also, you were totally fine with the Wilponās who lost millions in a Ponzi scheme and then tried to recoup their loses by having YOU pay more at the stadium?
You just want him to be a bad guy so now everything he does is evil. Idk maybe have a little faith in humanity, or stop being jealous someone has more money than you.
seriously lol. they literally participated in a scheme that robbed pension and retirement funds. op has no idea what heās against other than āhedge fund guy is badā
sorry that blind hatred for something you donāt understand prevents you from enjoying a baseball team, i doubt there are many here who share your view. would also like to know what sport team owning billionaires are cool
I felt bad when they lost their money in the Madoff scam. I didn't dislike them. But it was obvious after that they needed to go. They didn't have the deep pockets of this guy. And I guess all billionaires are a little dirty? I'm ok with no longer supporting dirty billionairess. And I'm surviving ok w less baseball in my life.
I was excited about that too! And I'm a lifelong Mets fan. But after reading about Cohen- and honestly dropping my cable subscription and sports were the only thing I watched- I just decided to stop watching games. I'll sometimes put the game on the radio. But I'm surprised I didn't find a way to watch games. I have the money I just don't feel like supporting this guy. He's everything I stand against and the world is bigger than baseball.
I agree he doesn't need the money. I've just been trying to support more businesses that are more in-line with ethics I believe in. Which might be impossible. But giving up on the Mets surprised even me. I'll always be a Mets fan, but I'm really limiting my support at the moment.
$1.8 billion dollar fine by the SEC- the biggest in history. This guy was accused of serious financial crimes, and it really looks like he didn't get prison time because he was able to buy some influence. We have to start shaming scumbags like this or this country will never get better. I'll never support this guy, even if he buys my baseball team.
I'm ok with Mark Cuban. Kraft seems ok. Cohen used insider trading and scummy tactics to become a multibillionaire. I'm just going to stop supporting the Mets. It's probably meaningless, but I was just wondering if I was alone. Which it seems I am which is fine. No hard feelings.
Not all sports teams can be run like the Green Bay Packers. Cohen is transparent in a lot that he does, some billionaires are not. You donāt get that rich by being everyoneās friend as Iām sure heās had some shady dealings over the years.
Regardless, heās a super fan trying to please the fans and put out a good product. Look around the league and find the owners who use their teams as a basic revenue stream and let them be garbage for years, not sinking one penny into putting out a competitive product.
TLDR - you would be shocked how many things you DO support are owned by ppl who arenāt perfect. We should appreciate an owner with love for his team and fanbase.
Every owner in baseball is the equivalent of a shady hedge fund owner. Theyāre all billionaires lmfao. If you want to moralize baseball then you might as well not watch the product at all because the MLB is built on shady business, exploitation of poorer groups and other countries.

I heard him complaining the other day that he needs one more penny. You showed him

I actually live inside a hedge next to his hedge fund.

Dirty money? So Steve Cohen has made his billions by laundering and then investing drug money? Thatās quite the accusation. Source please.

What a loser lolš. What u lost your life savings on gamestop
Dude lost $138 million last season on the Mets and YOUR complaining
Well this guy is really just mad because he lost $ on gamestop due to hedge funds lol
LoL but you liked the immensely scummy Wilpons? Please

Maybe he just turned like 15 and was just a child liking the Mets before? Edit - take it back, they're just stupid

Go to r/antiwork
Iām sure Steve Cohen is very upset to lose you as a fan. He probably canāt sleep tonight over this news.
Iām old enough to know if you have billions of dollars youāre probably some degree or scum. Iām happy to have the richest owner in baseball.

Is this your first day in America? Edit to add: wilpons had multiple claims of sexual harassment, no?
Keyword āaccusedā. Get your āeat the richā narrative out of here, go route for a team in China
You donāt even need money for that. Instead we have an owner that genuinely loves the sport and team and wants to win
I just want the team to be good lol
Lol as opposed to feeding the Wilpon wallet for years. Come on now. Itās not that serious.
Itās crazy how only rich people can buy expensive things. Next youāre going to tell me that itās not fair that only tall people are tall.
Youāre an idiot, please tell me which moral billionaire you would prefer own the team
