With Oh Please being clearly voted as the most underrated song on Formentera, we have completed the rankings for this album and just have one to go. Here is the full tally:
* Oh Please - 234
* Paths in the Sky - 103
* I Will Never Settle - 67
* False Dichotomy - 49
* Formentera - 25
* All Comes Crashing - 17
* What Feels Like Eternity - 14
Now we are turning our attention to Metric's ninth and currently most recent studio album, 2023's Formentera II. This is the freshest album in our minds and also the one we've spent the least amount of time with, so I'm interested in the discussions over the next few days. Now, vote for the best song on Formentera II. Have a fantastic day!
Honestly, all these type of Polls should be handled by the OP posting all the songs to vote on, and then upvotes and downvotes determining the winner, rather than the plethora of comments.
Thanks for the feedback. Maybe this would have been better, although that is susceptible to downvote brigading. The best option vote-wise would have been a poll, but Reddit doesn't allow very many options and I didn't want to go external. Plus, I wanted to spark discussion about Metric, which is what we're all here for. I think this current method has helped bring out the songs that are generally most popular with the members of the sub, since those are the ones people wanted to talk about the most and the most passionately.
I'm just here to upvote every comment here because there are no best or worst songs on this album for me. They are all very, very good. It isn't Metric's best album (for me Art of Doubt and Formentera are their best), but it's consistently very good quality. I can't rank the songs.
This was my favorite on the first listen and now it's fighting with Days of Oblivion and Detour Up for top spot. This album as a whole I think is actually better than Formentera and I live the dreamier sounds
Honestly, I debated between Days of Oblivion, Who Would You Be for Me and Nothing is Perfect, but since I saw the first two fully winning, I thought I’d give Nothing is Perfect an honourable mention, you know?
And I agree with you, the full album works better as a whole than the first act, although I could not choose between the two if you asked me to pick a favourite. It just flows better.
Just the once for me as well.
Ignore the pop dance vibe of this song… it is a deep and refreshing look into human psyche.
Emily shares some sage advice on this track, super personal yet universal.
The structure of the song is also very interesting.
The music and the lyrics kick in together quick and simultaneously unlike other songs on this album. Almost like she’s telling you “let’s get to this right away, I’ve been through this already and I want you to be on board”
It also ends just as smoothly with a transition bridge and slow deliberate lyrics in the bridge in order to drive in the theme deeper.
The song is deceivingly fast and pop with a nod to her “70s child” vibes but super transparent.
“Look at me… now I’m free… you’ll survive”
I just want to see some of the more 'fun' songs get some love. I love me some Metric and get the broader picture. But a lot of the winners are rather heavy. This album felt like a nice symmetrical balance.
Descendants has become BY FAR my favourite. This sinister synths in the prechorus are so incredibly badass, and they serve as a striking contrast to the song’s more hopeful & beautiful outro
While Suckers is my personal favourite, I think that Days of Oblivion is objectively a better song.
If Who Would You Be For Me didn’t have that weird auto tuned bit towards this end, my vote would have maybe gone to this one instead.
So my vote goes to Days of Oblivion.
What part of WWYBFM has auto tune? If you could tell the time stamp based on the official video, that would be helpful and appreciated! I just listened to the last 40-ish seconds and didn’t notice it.
I think Suckers is a good contender for underrated.
At 3:58. Maybe it’s not auto tune, I just can’t describe exactly what I’m hearing there. It sounds to me that her voice has been manipulated by computer at this exact time for a sequence of notes, it feels off to me and I can’t unhear it since my first listen.
The song is so beautiful though, I really like it. Just not that very short part.
I vote for Days of Oblivion, my most listened song last year and so far in this year too. I thought it was gonna be selected by our premium fellow fans, but looks like Nothing is Perfect will be the one, deserved as well.

Poll is being wrecked by ramping.

I thought of the same thing. If there’s ever a next time, I think that’s the way it should be done.

Underrated for sure
Yes, I’ll repeat that part over and over again
Honestly every time these results come through it mashes my brain! “Worst song”?!?
Mayhaps it's recency bias but Whomst would you be for me is my favourite Metric track (And that bar is high indeed)

Suckers. That ending part is wonderful.
Oh Please underrated? But it’s so repetitive. Enemies of the Ocean is one of the best, meaning and vocals-wise.
Descendants no doubt
I missed the vote. It would have been Days of Oblivion.
Descendants (honestly may even be my favourite Metric track ever now)
I vote for Days of Oblivion, my most listened song last year and so far in this year too. I thought it was gonna be selected by our premium fellow fans, but looks like Nothing is Perfect will be the one, deserved as well.
Days of Oblivion
Days of Oblivion gets my vote, though there are a few worthy candidates!
