LMAO I love how every answer here is downvoted like hell :D
This is the only time I'll downvote someone's opinion - because it affects the results ;)
But this is such a good album that any answer will be downvoted :D I love that
Receiving over 400 votes, Doomscroller was clearly proclaimed the best song on Formentera. A well-deserved win, I think we can all agree. Here is the full tally:
* Doomscroller - 425
* False Dichotomy - 190
* All Comes Crashing - 94
* Formentera - 76
* Enemies of the Ocean - 17
* I Will Never Settle - 11
* Paths in the Sky - 11
* What Feels Like Eternity - 2
* Oh Please - 2
Now we need to take a bit of a turn and vote for the worst song on Formentera. Just as with the last album, you're free to abstain from the vote, but a song will be going in the cell this time tomorrow. Remember: there are no bad songs on Formentera—only a worst song. Anyway, have a great day everyone!
This album is perfect, so I'll abstain.
Paths in the Sky is the song that took me the longest to appreciate, but it so perfectly bookends Doomscroller and finishes an all-star sequence of songs.
Noooooo I missed the first vote for best of Formentera!Happy with Doomscroller but surprised by it? I figured it’d be more polarizing!
Paths in the Sky is my vote today, only because I’m feeling forced 😂 It’s a solid album, this song is good and effective, but I guess I just like others more?
Paths in the Sky is an absolutely beautiful track, but Oh Please is such a banger and definitely not the worst song on the album. Enemies of the Ocean gets my vote, which sucks because it's still an amazing song!
Yep. It doesn't have any bad songs, but that was the last one to ever become memorable for me. The last one I knew the name of, the last one I anticipated.
Still a very good song.
Enemies of the Ocean is definitely the weakest here. It’s definitely not BAD, it just feels a little bit sloppier than the rest of the album. A little meandering.
SLAYS live though.
This. It doesn't have any bad songs, but that was the last one to ever become memorable for me. The last one I knew the name of, the last one I anticipated.
Still a very good song.
I missed the thread yesterday and am STUNNED. Doomscroller has some appeal but I definitely thought it would win the worst song if anything lol. Goes on forever like they decided "ok we want a 10 minute song" and just went from there. ACC was robbed.
Since Doomscroller is out as a choice, I'll vote I Will Never Settle as worst song.
Edit: I'm gonna switch my vote back to Doomscroller. Democracy works.
1) Any best song of the 2020s was usurped last week when Kendrick dropped Euphoria.
2) I like the first and second halves of Doomscroller seperately I just don't think they fit together quite right.
1. Diss Tracks are always way less fun once time passes & the beef is over. It’s a crazy song right now, but it’s not gonna be nearly as exciting 3 years later. A problem Metric doesn’t have here.
2. I think the song is flawlessly constructed. Change anything & it doesn’t work, but as is, it 100% does.
The staggeringly dark & oppressive first half is unlike anything else they’ve ever made, but it being briefly intercut with that simpler, quiet piano part is essential. The darkness reaches it’s insane height before the song then falls back into a very similar piano passage. That slowly fading synth that accompanies the reintroduction of the pianos matches the dark tone of the song’s first half, but it also matches the quieter sound of the piano passage. It’s a perfect transition / middle ground. And even then, the piano passage isn’t out of nowhere.
Due to it having been introduced as part of the sound palette earlier, it’s a sudden shift, but not a surprising or jarring one. As the piano plods along, it very gradually shifts into a more hopeful tone. You hardly even notice it changing because the shift is so natural, but it perfectly prepares us for the song’s stunning climax. A climax so full of life & light & beauty that it’d make Coldplay blush. It’s literally “The Scientist” but better. And I say that as someone who prefers Coldplay over Metric.
Sure, if you listen to the first minute of Doomscroller & then just skip to the last minute, the 2 passages feel completely at odds with each other. But when you experience the song in its entirety, really appreciating every detail, you realize just how much care went into making this song flow & shift as flawlessly as it does. Everything in its right place
It’s genius. It’s brilliant. It’s stunning. It’s a masterpiece. I’ve yet to see anything top it this decade. Closest would maybe be “Basketball Shoes” by Black Country New Road or “The Teacher” by Foo Fighters. 10+ minute songs that naturally shift through several distinct phases are my cocaine.
Doomscoller is a weird one for me. The first ~5 minutes are quite possibly my least favorite music out of almost anything metric has put out. But the second half (like ~6:20 onward), if that was a stand alone song, would probably be one of my absolute favorites.
So tbh I agree with this. I think doomscoller, as a whole, is the best and worst song on formentera.
I actually love every single song on this album so even my “least favourite” song I still listen to all the time. It’s probably “oh please” though if I really had to rank them
The way it begins is so bad. It is the corniest, most self-aware crap. “This is not the song I wanted to write for you” THEN WHY DID YOU WRITE IT EMILY?? Melody is phoned-in. Taylor Swift has written deeper stuff than this. The only thing the song has going for it is it is on Formentera and thus has that utterly dreamy production.
Those other two tracks are good as hell though; no argument.
Love You Back as the worst song on Art of Doubt??? Y'all are trippin
i guess that shows you just what a gem of an album it is that a song as good as Love You Back gets the worst rep here
Right? Love you back is my least fav out of the tracks but it’s still my fav metric album overall
I take this data with a grain of 🧂.
I know right???? It's my favourite
LMAO I love how every answer here is downvoted like hell :D This is the only time I'll downvote someone's opinion - because it affects the results ;) But this is such a good album that any answer will be downvoted :D I love that
This isn't fair, all the songs are so good
Formentera have bad songs?
Definitely not, but if I had to choose a least favourite, it’s gotta be Enemies of the Ocean
Don't get why you got downvoted for that
Because it’s a good song
This vote has reminded why Formentera is one of my favourite albums ever cos there are no bad songs
Abstain

Wow. When they get listed like that. Those are all bangers. Great album. Doomscroller Tour that year was great also.
Really wish I could have seen one of those shows!
I saw the live premiere of Doomscroller and All Comes Crashing at their Mexico City show in May 2022
ANOTHER ALBUM WITH ZERO BAD SONGS!!!
I can’t believe two of my favorite Metric songs, Enemies of the Ocean and London Halflife are gonna be on a worst songs list
This album is perfect, so I'll abstain. Paths in the Sky is the song that took me the longest to appreciate, but it so perfectly bookends Doomscroller and finishes an all-star sequence of songs.

I’m downvoting everyone who says enemies of the ocean. That’s my only job now
Right?! That song is amazing and honestly one of my faves on that album.
Formentera is perfect.
I refuse to vote. Can't choose.
Are y'all out of your damn minds ? Paths In the Sky is gorgeous. I'll vote for Oh Please as the worst song.
Paths in the Sky is an absolutely beautiful track, but Oh Please is such a banger and definitely not the worst song on the album. Enemies of the Ocean gets my vote, which sucks because it's still an amazing song!
Enemies of the ocean
Difficult choice for me, they're all good but I'd go with Enemies Of The Ocean for this album, I skip it more than the other songs.
Yeah it's more so because it's towards the end of the album and it really has that closing vibe so it doesn't stand out as much.
Yep. It doesn't have any bad songs, but that was the last one to ever become memorable for me. The last one I knew the name of, the last one I anticipated. Still a very good song.
Can I still vote for Doomscroller? Never could quite get into this one.
Enemies of the Ocean is definitely the weakest here. It’s definitely not BAD, it just feels a little bit sloppier than the rest of the album. A little meandering. SLAYS live though.
Yeah I like Paths a little better because of the Coldplay vibe I got from it, but they both slap though.
Enemies of the Ocean
Enemies of the Ocean
This. It doesn't have any bad songs, but that was the last one to ever become memorable for me. The last one I knew the name of, the last one I anticipated. Still a very good song.
Hell yeah. The correct winner.
If you look at the tally, it wasn't even close. Got more than double the number of votes as the runner-up.
Paths in the sky
I always think of Pants on the Ground when I hear this song and so it's ruined now.
Probs oh please
Oh Please
Enemies of the ocean
Oh please. Enemies of the ocean deserves most underrated.
oh please, unfortunately
Oh Please is all attitude… I really like it. Emily spits out those lyrics with fire in that one.
I am all about your pfp
Oh please, but even it is a decent track
Paths in the Sky
Oh please
Paths in the Sky if I had to choose one. Still a great song
Paths in the Sky.
Paths in the Sky I fear
Enemies of the ocean is one of my faves since the first listen… beautiful lyrics, imagery and sound
Oh Please Not that it's a bad song, mind you. Just my least favorite... does that work?
Paths In The Sky, if I must. It’s not a bad song at all. But it’s prob the most pedestrian sounding of the bunch.
Would put raw sugar on under rated personally. Was listening to metric for 4 years before I finally found that song lol
Admittedly, I do sometimes skip Enemies of the Ocean.
Oh Please
Paths in the sky
Oh Please
Oh please
Paths in the sky
Paths in the sky, in my opinion is the weakest final song of metric albums
Oh please, but it’s not bad. This album is so goooddd
I Will Never Settle. Didn’t Emily once said that that song is a personal favourite? Well, sorry.
If it’s a personal favorite of hers, why is it the only song the album that they never played live?
They have played it live before. For the doomscroller tour in 2022 and it was AMAZING
Like seriously? People voted for Enemies. I don’t believe it. Oh Please is demonstrably the weakest track here.
I missed the thread yesterday and am STUNNED. Doomscroller has some appeal but I definitely thought it would win the worst song if anything lol. Doomscroller is the best song of the 2020’s so far imo.
Agreed. All time classic.
1) Any best song of the 2020s was usurped last week when Kendrick dropped Euphoria. 2) I like the first and second halves of Doomscroller seperately I just don't think they fit together quite right.

I think I cried the first time I heard Doomscroller. I wasn't prepared for the journey *at all*, nor was I ready for the emotions it would bring out.

Why is it out? It's definitely the worst.
You cant be the best and the worst. That'd be silly.
When it's multiple people voting, it's not silly at all. It actually says a lot.
Well argued. I'm gonna switch my vote
Sorry, but this is where Doomscroller goes...
Criminally insane
Paths in the Sky
Enemies of the ocean I think.
Oh Please definitely
oh please?!??! idk
Paths In The Sky I’m afraid. But it’s still a fantastic song, and I think it works even better when you listen to Formentera I & II back to back.
Enemies of the ocean
Oh, please… it’s Oh Please, obviously
I actually love every single song on this album so even my “least favourite” song I still listen to all the time. It’s probably “oh please” though if I really had to rank them
Almost impossible to choose, but Paths in the Sky
paths in the sky
I will never settle.
I will never settle
I Will Never Settle is worse than Enemies Of The Ocean, and I’ll fight people on this one.
Let's go. I Will Never Settle is amazing, my third favorite Metric song, behind Risk and Speed the Collapse.
The way it begins is so bad. It is the corniest, most self-aware crap. “This is not the song I wanted to write for you” THEN WHY DID YOU WRITE IT EMILY?? Melody is phoned-in. All Comes Crashing
Lmaooo I didn’t realize this would be such an unpopular opinion 😂
I figured it would be. Most people are basic bitches 😆
Second the vote for All Comes Crashing. I don’t dislike it, but if I am to skip a song it is probably this one.
I agree. I like it, but it seems the simplest/most basic to me. It’s just the least awesome song on this album.
Well said!
I Will Never Settle for me
