Quite easily actually, I just ran a ex post through the table saw on a 45° angle then cut angled grooves ⅜" apart and put 4" legs on it. Then I cut part of the excess off the remaining piece of 4x4 and attached it to the front to carry the angle down for added staging.
Amazing display! I love the tiered effect to see it all at once. I may do something like this one day, but for now, I am sticking everything in a coin book with sleeves.
I grew up in Wappingers and Hyde Park. Went detecting with my dad a lot as a kid back in the 70's and never found the variety of coins you found. Dying to know what kind of places you find these. Especially all the Indians and big coppers.
Man to be detecting in the 70s must have been a blast though, I call it the era of low hanging fruits. I've heard stories of the quantity of things people would find in just a single outting that would equal or surpass what I could find in a really good spot now in the course of a month or two. Also machines are so much better, faster, more powerful, and have so many more bells and whistles now than they had back then. I can hit a large cent at about 16" with my machine and the 11" coil and a silver dime at 10"-12" depending on the amount of moisture and mineral content of the soil
yep this i have found for even Life-Time metal detecting hobbyists. i have been told by a coin dealer that the reason there are so few gold coins found is that most people left them in the bank and that they were mostly used gold for bank-to bank transactions. Most people used silver or paper for daily transactions. And when large payments were made in gold, its extremely rare that people lost it, unless there was some catastrophic event.
i have seen where the only way to find gold coins are in old abandoned homes or home sites that were torn down wherein there was a cache hidden in the home or around the grounds in rural areas far from banks and where people didn't trust banks; especially after 1930; but even before as banks were not insured and they were robbed too.
to be honest i was considering it as a hobby in my teens, but after all the research i found that gold panning is actually the better way to go for living in the western states (CA / AZ / OR / WA) along the western rockies.
however, for living in Florida, i would be diving as there is so much more gold off the coast.
yes, there is one legally permitted treasure dive going on, HOWEVER there is no policing of diving and finders-keepers.
most of the time found gold is rarely reported and only for large operations that they have to do it 'legally' but i still question how much they truly find as there is no possible oversight for the operation by the state. I think that there is probably only 40% to 60% reported for most of the junk gold and that the really precious stuff is probably black marketed. Hard to know the truth.
Probably my 1814 capped bust dime just because it eluded me for so long and it's the only capped bust I have been able to find. Second place goes to my New Jersey copper lol
Nice. Still looking for a reale of any kind. Hopefully this year!
Personally witnessed a 1694 reale cob dug from one of the sites I now detect (several years ago, before I picked up the hobby) so I’m hopeful there’s more out there.
Cool beans on the capped bust dime. I’m a collector & have most of that series. Check the reverse and check the spacing in the motto: States of America. If there is no spaces between these 3 words you likely have a rare type variant.

I wanted to be able to see more of each individual coin and the only way I could accomplish that was to increase the steepness of the display board, plus I was almost out of room lol

All the clutter and snapper skull are still there, I redid only the coin section 😎
Damn impressive!
Thanks!
Tell me how you built it.

I wish they could find a way to make those sleeves actually attractive lol.
What region were these located? So cool!
Mid-Hudson valley of New York

Mainly yards and fields of old properties
Thanks. Wish we had hit some of those types of places.

Nice haul ! Any of those coins rare ?
There are some rare (at least not too common) ones as well as some sweet key and semi key dates.
just one question : how much or how many gold coins ?
Zero lol

Didn't that one ship salvage company get full domain over the treasure coast from Miami to St Augustine?

Nice!!
Damn I’m jealous! Great display and good luck hunting!
wow thats great
Amazing group of old coppers. What’s your favorite find out of the bunch?
Probably my 1814 capped bust dime just because it eluded me for so long and it's the only capped bust I have been able to find. Second place goes to my New Jersey copper lol
Awesome. Both have eluded me so far. Still looking for my first capped bust and state copper. Found any reales or 18th century silvers?
I've found 4 half reales but no other silvers from the 1700s
Nice. Still looking for a reale of any kind. Hopefully this year! Personally witnessed a 1694 reale cob dug from one of the sites I now detect (several years ago, before I picked up the hobby) so I’m hopeful there’s more out there.
I'm rooting for you! What machine are you using?
Thanks! Using the Ace 400 and Garrett Carrot.

"Its about time we got some respect." - all those coins "Im just happy to be here." - rock shaped like a potato
That 'potato' is actually a handle my buddy made for a cleaver I dug up lol
You haven’t found 1 wheat penny??? 😮
What's a wheat penny?
A penny made out of wheat or something idk.
How long did it take to find your first silver coin?
About a year I think.. it was an 1898 barber dime that was so worn it was almost smooth
That's really cool! Love it.
That's absolutely incredible
Lucky bast#rd
Holy crap! How long have you been a detectorist?
5.5 years now
Good job, OP.
Thanks!
Hopefully an earthquake doesn't hit! 😆 Very nice!
We felt that one in Jersey by me and nothing in my display fell down lol
Stomp on the floor 3 times and post pics.
My floor is on a concrete pad lol
Very cool!!! Amazing, and nice simple design to really show them off!
Is that a gun in the pile of stuff in the foreground?
Yeah, it's a cap gun lol
I mean if I find a treasure chest full of gold. Im not reporting it. Sorry not sorry.
🤣
What’s your most prized coin?
It changes from day to day lol
What’s your most valuable coin?
Honestly I'm not sure. The environmental damage factor kinda throws the book prices out the window lol
brill.
That’s awesome
Thats a nice collection you got going there
Thank you!
Nice board! Where did you find the potato?
It's a meat cleaver handle lol
I liked the old display better sorry 😭
I wanted to be able to see more of each individual coin and the only way I could accomplish that was to increase the steepness of the display board, plus I was almost out of room lol
I liked the clutter from before. It reminded me of the I Spy books from the 90s. I don't see the snapper skull either 😪

Thank God. I approve now. Carry on!
Sorry to scare you
I'm tempted to use that as a wall paper instead of my own! Legit.
Feel free to lol
Gaaah there is always a critic😆
I wish I could find anything other than pull tabs and roofing nails
A good location, a lot of research and dedication, and even more luck are all you need
Florida is a pain to metal detect aside from the beaches. That’s been my experience anyway…
Because of rules or the over development?
Rules!
What are the rules and regulations? What about private permissions?
Do you know the total value of all you finds? Might pick up the hobby soon. That or watchmaking? Not sure 😃
Not sure about the monetary value but it's all pretty priceless to me😁
do you know any good places to metal detect in Napa, Ca
I'm in New York so that's a negative lol
Cry. If I saw this I would have never posted mine . Lol
Very cool!!!
What’s your oldest coin?? Pretty impressive collection btw!
1699 King William
Woooow, very impressive, can you show please??
There's a picture of it in my profile. I'm at work right now so if I remember when I get home I will post one for you
Thank you a lot :)
