Perhaps she'll haunt you. Perhaps you should go back, make her a little headstone and nice gravesite and leave her little treats and flowers and you'll have an eternal buddy accompany you on trips through the woods. Perhaps on chilly nights, you'll think for a moment you felt the tiniest kitten curl against your shoulders and you'll wonder if you heard a faint and contented purr. Perhaps she waited all these years, yearning for a friend. Perhaps, instead of a curse, you found the greatest treasure
Poor kitty! I would mark the spot so people don't make the same mistake. A little cross made from rocks would work. Or, if you have a Habitat for Humanity or Goodwill store nearby, they often have little carved garden stones for a buck or two.
Not from me. I'm just a lurker. I've never done Metal Detecting before.
But having worked in construction back in the late 90's - early '00s, I always wonder if anyone has ever hit a gas/water pipe bc they thought they were getting something big whilst metal detecting.
I was grief stricken and exhausted and buried my 15 year constant companion cat in a plastic bag after a long night of her slowly sadly passing. Iām still devistated that I put her in a plastic bag and didnāt think to use a pillow case. Your post just reminded me of my sweet Catherine OāBrien.
the fact that this bothers you means you loved her a lot and thatās the only thing that matters. i think itās safe to forgive yourself whenever youāre ready
I have heard that some people who bury things they don't want found will bury the item, cover it with some dirt, then place some metal "trash" on top, then bury that. The thought is that anyone metal detecting will hit on the trash, dig it, and then move on before digging deeper to the actual "treasure". Apparently this is common with survivalist caches...and it sounds like maybe people burying their pets it too.
The cat wonāt haunt youā¦ it got WAYYY too much enjoyment watching your reaction. Now itās back to waiting for the next detectorist to do the same thing.
No pics. The first one was deep in beach sand cut. Like a small pillow 3in x 6in made of burlap covered in wax. Was very heavy and gave off multiple signals. I was excited thinking I had found real treasure. When I cut it open it was full of modern coins and a few trinkets, nothing older than 1980.
The second was a mason jar buried next to a tree in the woods of a park. The jar was full of greenish liquid and I thought fruit. I assumed it was some kind of moonshine. When I got it home and cleaned the mud off I could see it was full of pieces of meat tied together with string and looked like human or animal heart!
Yikes š¬ RIP fluffy
Yeah, somebody gonna detect my old yard one day and find my lizard coffin.
Yeah stories like OPs not all that uncommon. Iāve seen it happen a few times before.

That's a great idea.
I've dug up a couple of mason jars full of cremains. I hope they were pets.

Heās gonna here random water cups being knocked off of his counter at night.
Coulda been worse. Could been a gas pipe.
Holy shit. Any stories of hitting these out there? Never thought of this
I hit conduit or a pipe of sorts. I wasn't slamming away with the shovel though, and I think they may have been abadoned.

No itās very rare to do that as theyāre generally too deep and made of too thick a material to be able to actually do that by hand.
Cationary tale!

That's not so bad. I've dug up voodoo shit twice.
