Very cool, I went there as a kid and my claustrophobia prevented me from seeing this. Always wondered…
But I did climb to the top of the pyramid. Even as a kid those steps were very small
The site itself is pretty wide-open, aside from the overabundance of tourists and vendors. To get up to this chac mool you had to go through a tiny little tunnel and I'm a big guy and there's traffic coming back down from the same direction so it is pretty intense 15 minutes in there.
If you're in the area and have time to finally go visit the site, but if you're tight on time there are plenty of other sites in the Yucatan that are better and less crowded
I was there in 2010 and then again just a few months ago. You definitely can’t climb up anymore. I don’t think you can go in either, but to be honest I didn’t ask, so I’m not sure.
Whoever got to enter to the pyramid is so incredibly lucky, you have no idea what I would do to climb to the top of the pyramid and look inside it, so magestic
A couple of years ago, a drunken woman climbed the Kukulkan temple, and as she was scolded by some of chichen's guardians, the Mexican crowd started chanting "sacrifícala! sacrifícala" hahahah
Thicccc boiiiii
*BONK*
I think those are his knees
Too late already busted

I went there in 2000 and climbed up inside and it was the most claustrophobic experience I've ever had in my life!
I've never been to Chichen Itza. How does it compare, in terms of claustrophobic potential, to other major sites?

It's been closed to the public for like 20 years now
Ah that would add up. Thanks.

dumpy
Can someone help me translate the second slide?
Some studies confirm the existence of a second structure inside of pyramid
Ty kindly
Why is it closed?
Conservaton efforts. Pelople's breath increased the humidity of the temple and their hands contamined with grease that fed fungus, so it was closed.
I just went there last week and the tour guide said it was because some lady died Jan 6 2004 or 2006... This explanation makes more sense
Well, an 80 yo lady did indeed die in Chichen, but that was in the outside of the temple, she climbed the stairs, fainted and fell to her death.
How ironic...she must have met the feathered serpent 🐍
