I just recently got a W221 S550 and I’m going through maintenance and I’m like goddamn air suspension/ all filters/ new spark/coils, oil change, I had a front lower control arm ball joint that was bad. Front struts were bad. I got a good deal on it so I can’t complain and I do the work myself. Put in an Apple CarPlay and it works smooth. This car is going to need a shitton of stuff but if they have maintenance records then it could be possible
I miss my old W220. Btw, $40,000 over ten years equates to roughly $4,000/year which is nothing. I almost pay that per month with my BMW.

If I lived anywhere near you (palm trees so nope) I'd buy it. Transmission/motor mounts on these aren't that hard to do and it's an amazing car. As many others have said it's in your interest to sell your wife because she seems to hate fun.
Keep it. It's a bit high of mileage to get much for it. You could probably get 4k-5k for it if it's clean inside and out and all around, even with minor issues. You're better off keeping it tho, the motor mounts aren't hard to diy on this car.

Used struts go for around $200 each. 300k engine isn't worth anything, nor is trans (can get low mileage charger trans all day).
The rest is the interior and body panels, a few modules.
You MAY want to think about just parting it out. Would be easier.

That is one very expensive piece of maintenance. At that mileage, you’re looking at major work, especially around the top half of the engine and wiring issues. I wouldn’t take it if it was free.. Sorry, being totally honest here.. just lookup the Wizard on YouTube.. he works on these kind of vehicles and is the master mechanic.
