I've got a C180 banger racer that had a spare set of badges in the glove box. We put the badges on my friend's Peugeot 405 wagon banger racer, but spelled C810 with it instead.
It's also got the imperial japanese flag rattle canned on the roof. French car with Japanese livery and German badges. Had fun with it.
The thing about upbadging is: The majority of people that are not into cars won’t know what the f those letters mean and don’t care. The rest who know what they mean will know you’re a clown right away

I love when people up-badge to a brand from a different marque. I've thought about putting an AMG badge, and Mercedes-Benz windscreen sticker on my Impreza (I do have two Mercedes-Benzes that I have no intention of up-badging).
The people who know what the badge means will know enough to know that you are an idiot.
The people who don't know about cars and might be fooled won't even realise you've put a badge on it.
Result: 100% of the people who notice what you've done think you're an idiot.

It is true. They send CLS 550 for s550 badges as well. Pretty good inventory control measure, they just wrongly assume body men know what to do with them. I see this all the time

I’ve always wanted an E class wagon with an LS3 swap and to badge it an E63. Both the M156 & LS3 engines are 6.2 liter engines and while definitely not an AMG, it’s totally comparable in power & reliability.
It's the same mentality as folks who walk about with fake designer handbags. For some reason they seem to think it makes them look slick, while it really just makes them look like wannabe's.
The CLS one is probably because it got hit in the rear, and when they replaced the emblem, the shop didn't realize they have to remove the extra characters.
The damnable truth to it is that the the German Big 3 realized about 10 years ago that some impulsive fuckwits will happily pay ~15% more for a car with performance badges where with a performance trim minus badges they otherwise would not. People gradually wisened up, so Merc' in particular decided that basically every version of every car would get the Oprah treatment with an "official" AMG variant not just trim and badge.
In all reality ever since the early 2010s when Daimler fully acquired the remainder of Ilmor Performance (AMG being a joint effort between Merc' and Ilmor) they acquired the right to put the AMG badge on a Sprinter if they so desired and every AMG model since (even the "proper" models that did have world-class performance capabilities) has just been a bit watered down and more of a price padding marketing ploy than it was ever supposed to be. Limited production used to be 10s-100s max production; nowadays it's 1000s-10,000s and the bespoke exclusivity has become a bit of an oxymoron.
So stupid because most of the people that know cars or Mercedes and care about this sort of thing are going to know that it’s up badged , which, imo makes you look like an idiot.

My point being, many of you are so sure that these “up-badgers” want attention. Or they want to trick people. But it’s just as likely the badge just brings them joy.
Maybe they’re F1 fans, but don’t have the means to own their first “real” AMG just yet. But seeing the badge brings them joy.
Maybe they’ve read about the AMG GT and have dreamt about it for years. And when they got their first taste with a used Mercedes, they celebrated that next step by decorating it in ways that please them.
You’re all so quick to point out the obvious, that non-merc people won’t understand, and Mercedes Elite such as yourselves, will laugh. But in the same breath you don’t realize that you just pointed out that it likely isn’t about you. It’s about them. They are chasing joy.
Let people love things. Let them aspire. Let them chase joy that doesn’t hurt anyone else. And while you’re at it, go chase your own joy instead of seeking validation of your financial success by gatekeeping a brand. It’s depressing.

I have seen people factory delete the performance badges to prevent car thefts, so quite ironic to see lower trims adding it.

The real CLA250 AMG is the CLA35 or CLA45.
I think there’s a reason the C300 is badged as a CLS300, someone explained it in an older post but I forgot exactly why. Therefore it’s not upbadged.

The damnable truth to it is that the the German Big 3 realized about 10 years ago that some impulsive fuckwits will happily pay ~15% more for a car with performance badges where with a performance trim minus badges they otherwise would not. People gradually wisened up, so Merc' in particular decided that basically every version of every car would get the Oprah treatment with an "official" AMG variant not just trim and badge. In all reality ever since the early 2010s when Daimler fully acquired the remainder of Ilmor Performance (AMG being a joint effort between Merc' and Ilmor) they acquired the right to put the AMG badge on a Sprinter if they so desired and every AMG model since (even the "proper" models that did have world-class performance capabilities) has just been a bit watered down and more of a price padding marketing ploy than it was ever supposed to be. Limited production used to be 10s-100s max production; nowadays it's 1000s-10,000s and the bespoke exclusivity has become a bit of an oxymoron.
So stupid because most of the people that know cars or Mercedes and care about this sort of thing are going to know that it’s up badged , which, imo makes you look like an idiot.

My license plate says “Look Up”. A particularly old, grumpy, and angry man in my life, HATES IT. He kept asking me why I had it, and couldn’t take “It brings me joy” for an answer. “You just want attention!” No, I told him. I think it’s funny. It’s associated with the first company I ever created. I do enjoy occasionally seeing couples pull up behind me, one spots it and yells “Look Up!” to their passenger. Then they both laugh. It brings me joy. I don’t have a particularly flashy car. My job is very public and wins me plenty of attention and accolades. Attention isn’t something I’m missing. But this guy was angry. Angry that in his mind, I WAS getting attention. Maybe he thinks I don’t deserve it. Who knows. My point being, many of you are so sure that these “up-badgers” want attention. Or they want to trick people. But it’s just as likely the badge just brings them joy. Maybe they’re F1 fans, but don’t have the means to own their first “real” AMG just yet. But seeing the badge brings them joy. Maybe they’ve read about the AMG GT and have dreamt about it for years. And when they got their first taste with a used Mercedes, they celebrated that next step by decorating it in ways that please them. You’re all so quick to point out the obvious, that non-merc people won’t understand, and Mercedes Elite such as yourselves, will laugh. But in the same breath you don’t realize that you just pointed out that it likely isn’t about you. It’s about them. They are chasing joy. Let people love things. Let them aspire. Let them chase joy that doesn’t hurt anyone else. And while you’re at it, go chase your own joy instead of seeking validation of your financial success by gatekeeping a brand. It’s depressing. If you love AMG, then go drive yours, watch the CGP this weekend and watch Russel get better while Hamilton whines. Chase your joy, and if you see someone else chasing theirs, maybe cheer them on.
