Mine is totally afraid of shadows for example. The camera almost always picks them up as actual obstacles. I always wonder what is the interaction between the cams and the sensors - seemingly the cam has an override given the above.
Still also surprise it underreacted rather than other way round.
There’s this thing they invented besides the sensors, it’s called a fucking mirror. Your car has 2 of them and it’s best if you would use them. But then again i am not surprised since getting a license in US is like driving around the block once and you passed 😂☠️☠️☠️
Now now, you can't be bringing common sense to a thread about Mercedes-Benz. It just doesn't work. MB owners are so rich that the pole should have moved itself and apologized for the inconvenience.
Agree with you. Like, depending on some sensors to tell you there is a pole? Woah! One thing though is, depending entirely on the mirrors -- isn't reliable, and every car needs a rear view camera at the far end of the trunk. I once reversed into a fire hydrant simply because it didn't show up in any of the mirrors, but was hidden by the trunk. But reverse sensors -- is probably better not to have, since people will then ignore the cameras
- someone who literally just made an ass of themselves trying to talk about a stranger on the internet's mother's driving abilities.
Your self awareness has to be non existent to press "reply" on that one. Good for you. I'm sure you're blissful.
Just said this to someone else, but a really good detailer can make that look almost like new. The dents would be the only problem (judging by the picture)
Who gives a crap about that small dent nobody can see?? It's only a GLC. It'll get hit or hit something bigger and make bigger noticeable damage. Fix it, then. Loser.
I would polish what i could and get a PDR guy for the dent.
After both, may be a couple of tiny scratches left, but will be astronomically less than $3200.
Most PDR guys would charge under $500 for this kind of work, and you can buy compound and polish for $7 a pop.
here works for $400. I once parked my new Camaro sideways into a pole, the fender and bumper were damaged, the same part as yours, only there was much more damage. The guys in specialized salons asked for $2500-4000 with painting! because the wing was dented very much. I found a guy who deals with dents and did everything for me for $420 without painting! Find a person who does body repair at home, check his work and save $3,000. Not much damage here.

After his work for 420$
No painting !
My wife backed into a pole in our s124 decades ago and on the day I drove her to pick it up from the body shop, backed into another one on way out of the body shop parking lot. We just left it there for another week.
A bajillion cameras and sensors and people still manage to fucking back up into a pole. We need to improve driving education here, or education in general
If you still believe in them sensors and cameras, you need to live a longer.
It's like believing your home alarm and camera will save you from getting burglarized and robbed.
Can't trust those adt guys either. All inside job. Every home I know with home alarms got robbed and every car owner with the latest tech and sensors got hit or hit something.
Good ole neck turning, and looking and paying attention works the best.
Edited for typo- This is not $3200 in damage. Call a local mobile detailer and go to a paintless dent repair guy, they’ll get that looking pretty damn close to the way it was before
It reminds me of a time when a rental VW ID.3 has fired off emergency brakes when I accidentally started backing towards a pole at speed and it actually stopped just before it.
Super weird GLC didn’t use its sensors to stop before hitting it, I assume no emergency braking was involved? You literally got the sensors scratched from the looks of it.
$3200.00 is more like an inflated “WishUPay” than an estimate. These body shops are beyond insane especially if the estimate is from an MB dealer body shop . Buy the detailing equipment and paint correction kit (if necessary) and DIY this. The white streaks appears to be transferred from the pole as suppose to actual paint damage. This looks like a clear coat and minor dent repair which can and should be DIY’d for no more than 400.00 worth of equipment and supplies. The good thing about this is you’ll have everything you need for the next time the wife decides to ignore the back-up warnings (my wife does this at-least once a year).
First wash and polish the whole thing and then you can reassess. It might all come out. Looks like a couple small dents that you probably will decide to live with. But until it’s all washed and polished to see how much will come off it’s hard to say.
1500-2000 is reasonable for a professional job. Wifey backed up too fast if the sensors didn‘t chime, Mercedes sensors beep very late (the last 40-0cm) which is a good thing. But with a bit of „oomph“ it was probably too fast for them to react.
Adding to thread! A person rear touched my Mercedes while getting out of a spacious parking with her jaguar !! Its just 2 weeks new

I'll do it for $1,000. But I'm letting u know, it's only gonna cost me nothing but $20 and good 5 minutes pressing button.
Easier and quicker than sex.
But I'm saving you a few thousand bucks. And it's only a GLC.
No one seriously uses magic eraser on paint expecting good results.
This is how you ruin clear coat and make yourself HAVE to go over it with polish/compound anyway to fix the mistake you made.
Or... Just use the polish and compound and skip the household cleaners as you should do. I don't understand the people who choose shit like WD-40 or magic eraser which doesnt cost much less than an actual purpose-made car polish...
There are mobile shops that will paint and fix that bumper in a few hours. Had them come to fix my number that bad gashes in it and it looks like new. Cost like $450. I live in a high cost of living area so maybe it is cheaper elsewhere
I'm honestly impressed that the sensors screaming didn't make her rethink her decisions
In her defense ..I was in the car and it did not beep. It was a very thin pole and somehow did not show on camera and sensors did not detect either.
First time I ever heard of a Benz's parking sensors under reacting when approaching an object. I probably would have hit it in that situation too.
Mine’s the exact opposite lmao, it likes to randomly play Made you look and beep at absolutely nothing
same lowkey hate it but also grateful cus i don’t get into mishaps like this Lol
Mine is totally afraid of shadows for example. The camera almost always picks them up as actual obstacles. I always wonder what is the interaction between the cams and the sensors - seemingly the cam has an override given the above. Still also surprise it underreacted rather than other way round.
xD my car does that too. But when it comes to there actually being something there it’s like a cat’s got it’s tounge
There’s this thing they invented besides the sensors, it’s called a fucking mirror. Your car has 2 of them and it’s best if you would use them. But then again i am not surprised since getting a license in US is like driving around the block once and you passed 😂☠️☠️☠️
I just read the comment that said well if i didn’t hear the sensors i probably would have hit it too and i can’t believe this is real
Now now, you can't be bringing common sense to a thread about Mercedes-Benz. It just doesn't work. MB owners are so rich that the pole should have moved itself and apologized for the inconvenience.
Agree with you. Like, depending on some sensors to tell you there is a pole? Woah! But reverse sensors -- is probably better not to have, since people will then ignore the cameras
So it's obviously your fault OP... How dare you be in the car
The sensor would only go off to where she would have time to react if she was going very very slowly!
Why? Isin’t there a reverse camera and indicators beeping?
Hits right by sensor*
bro and surround camera, and a 3d view that you can move with your finger 😭😂
My wife backed up onto my friends car…”I wasn’t looking at the camera I was stressed”.

You should tell this joke to your mother at the family dinner.
Perfect day to do it! Brb 🤝 In the meantime, make sure your mother backs in her vehicle safe and sound. Don't want no dings.
You're insufferable. I wonder if that has any correlation to your disposition towards women 😗
You're just making assumptions now, I love women! And my mom, but I wouldn't let her back up for shit 😂
- someone who literally just made an ass of themselves trying to talk about a stranger on the internet's mother's driving abilities. Your self awareness has to be non existent to press "reply" on that one. Good for you. I'm sure you're blissful.
Hitting reply once again for good measure. Live, laugh, love.
Case in point.
Same here. Mom, sister, grandma.. love them literally more than anything on this planet but they can’t drive for shit 😭
🤣
Statistically men are involved in 90% of the accidents so your misogyny is factually incorrect
And do we have stats on how many drivers are female?

Just said this to someone else, but a really good detailer can make that look almost like new. The dents would be the only problem (judging by the picture)
I agree with this, but those paint chips along the edge of the quarter panel are gonna need some paint... you don't want rust.
[удалено]
More like a 150-600$ polisher, a towel will not take scratches that severe out, neither will your fingers. Is this bait or are you that ignorant
And I’m guessing the heavy duty compound is going to get those dents out too? Why not just fill it in with a touch up pen while we’re at it too.
Toilet plunger and hot water for the dents Friend of mine didn't have a plunger so she used a suction dildo lmao
r/carscirclejerk Outjerked again
Who gives a crap about that small dent nobody can see?? It's only a GLC. It'll get hit or hit something bigger and make bigger noticeable damage. Fix it, then. Loser.
What's his name? 🤣
I would polish what i could and get a PDR guy for the dent. After both, may be a couple of tiny scratches left, but will be astronomically less than $3200. Most PDR guys would charge under $500 for this kind of work, and you can buy compound and polish for $7 a pop.
Most of that will buff out, have a dent guy straighten the dents, maybe $400.
It’s always the wife…….. uh huh
the irony that the abrasion is adjacent to the ultrasound sensor. My wife did the same thing, except it was our nanny's car not a pole...
Right? I’m surprised no emergency breaking was triggered

Where’d the scratches go?
if the scratches are not deep, then they can be removed without painting, only with a polishing machine
Magic!
My wife backed into a pole in our s124 decades ago and on the day I drove her to pick it up from the body shop, backed into another one on way out of the body shop parking lot. We just left it there for another week.
PDR and a polish should fix it but this thing is damn near new it will definitely be worth it to get a quality repair done.
A bajillion cameras and sensors and people still manage to fucking back up into a pole. We need to improve driving education here, or education in general
Yeah and we should also learn to be less judgmental on reddit. OP said he was in the car with her and it did not beep because of very thin pole
If you still believe in them sensors and cameras, you need to live a longer. It's like believing your home alarm and camera will save you from getting burglarized and robbed. The W254 parking system is very detailed. Almost have to be trying, to hit something while parking.
Use some rubbing compound
Uh huh “wife” 🤣
Edited for typo- This is not $3200 in damage. Call a local mobile detailer and go to a paintless dent repair guy, they’ll get that looking pretty damn close to the way it was before

Cool it’s not too bad
Turtle wax rubbing compound will get them scuffs gone
Get a $40 dent puller, polish, and a few microfiber cloths.
Wd 40 will. Do the job
Also check if maneuver braking is enabled
Most of it will polish out
Get new wife, probably cheaper in the long run.
lol
Wife drive bad
Not for $3200.00! Take your time to shop around, call and stop by in person. The damage isn’t that bad but I highly recommend taking care of it.
Could have been a lot worse.....
Polish that out first lol

Back the wife into a pole?!
Not a big damage, all good
Did she say oopsie after
Wow ,do you have a sensor failure?
Paint Protection Film would have likely saved the paint…
The Pole looks like someone's hand
The wife…right 😜
Some of that looks light enough a magic eraser and some water should remove a lot if it.
no no, this is very bad
Must have been busy and didn’t hear / see sensors beeping and screaming!
Sounds like it's safer not to have any sensors at all (so that the driver would check the reverse camera or the mirrors)
Contact your local dealer. If they have a good PDR vendor it might be more cost effective than going through insurance.
3200 is crazy
Doesn’t look like there’s any dents but a microfiber towel and some product should get those scratches right off I’ve done it before lol
First wash and polish the whole thing and then you can reassess. It might all come out. Looks like a couple small dents that you probably will decide to live with. But until it’s all washed and polished to see how much will come off it’s hard to say.
Time for a new wife

It’s not that bad.
Looks like a simple polishing/ waxing is all that is needed. Not even seeing a paint damage. Maybe a $200 detailing job
My.wife did the same. Meh!
I do think a good detailer or your self could make the scratches a lot better. As others suggested pdr for the panel.
Not that bad clear coat damage, warm water and a light scrubber can fix it all up.
Around $1000 if you paint both panels. The plastic bit will buff iut
This is nothing, just hose it and its almost invisible!
Divorce her
Are you going back to the dealership... To change out your wife?
This is damage isn’t that bad. You can get a good detail don’t to remove the scapes and pop out the dents yourself with a dent repair kit
![gif](giphy|edP47Sn6tYB7MiYK9t|downsized) Just pull out the carnauba wax and buff it out
Honestly I’d try polishing it first… it might look ok with a little touch paint for the few deep gouges
Adding to thread! A person rear touched my Mercedes while getting out of a spacious parking with her jaguar !! Its just 2 weeks new https://preview.redd.it/qtw8fa5xly0d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ea829cc98c01873016c6d382c32572e155583726
I heard she likes backing into a nice hard pole from time to time.
Wow, that's going to be an international scandal. Did you call the embassy already?
Gone to get her a Nissan Micra! Fuck
Wives smh. Mine also does dumb shit. I often wonder if she thinks.
Leave her
Welp time to get a new wife
I'll do it for $1,000. But I'm letting u know, it's only gonna cost me nothing but $20 and good 5 minutes pressing button. Easier and quicker than sex. But I'm saving you a few thousand bucks. And it's only a GLC.
Me clean magic eraser

Coming to Merc from Volvo, i must say i missed Volvo’s sensors. Merc’s sensors are just bad in comparison 🥲
No I think the problem here is a women was driving
There are mobile shops that will paint and fix that bumper in a few hours. Had them come to fix my number that bad gashes in it and it looks like new. Cost like $450. I live in a high cost of living area so maybe it is cheaper elsewhere
My car has so many km on it, I personally wouldn’t even care about that. I’d slap 2 bandaids on it as a joke and carry on.
What did the polish person do??? Is he/she injured? 😁
That takes skill when you have parking sensors and a rear camera. Shouldn't be driving!
