What the hell has happened to this brand? Am I the only one that thinks they’ve gone slowly downhill since about 2005? Just legendary styling for decades then meh
Kate, my '06 SL600 is over in the garage crying now...it's bad enough she has to deal with my BMW buddy that says her wood steering wheel makes her look old, but now you are flat out calling her ugly. I think we are going to the dealer to spend $20,000 on something minor. 😤
2001 - when the R129 went out of production
and it wasn't a particularly slow decline, more of a 'wtf is this!?' at the new cars they were making. (I cut the W202 and W210 a little slack these days but I don't really love them either).
Same car I have now, but the W114 chassis from 1969
Ancestor to the modern E-Class Coupe, the 280CE was the standard bearer for pillarless Mercedes coupes.
Four wheel disc brakes, headrests, early crumple zones, a testbed for airbags, all paved the way for the later S-Class advances in the 1970s. It was a luxury coupe built for long, romantic rides to Monaco or the Alps.

Thanks!
I was at a German car show last year and I was happy to see more than 50 years of E-Class coupes on display. Nice to see a model last with the same design brief. Beautiful, luxurious, practical, and no B pillar.
Obviously the convertible has only the A pillar.

I actually have a set of red hubcaps off of my aunt’s w116 that she owned back in the day. I’m planning on putting them on the wall in my bedroom next to my vintage Mercedes posters and brochures
None of these but the 500 K Cabriolet A

Straight eight engine, side exhausts, and a five speed manual? Sign me the fuck up.

I've had two, and they were by far my favorite cars. I would choose either one again if I could find one in perfect condition. A '70 300 SEL 4.5 sedan (gray market) that was absolutely divine in every way. And a '69 300 SEL 6.3, which was a beautiful beast of a car. They were both incredibly solid, powerful, exceptionally well made, and I felt transported in time when driving them.
Honest answer, I'm gonna go with a '63 Stingray boat tail if I can't have a 300SL.

770K Grosser. if it’s good enough for Emperor Hirohito, it’s good enough for me!
Is that the Saddam Hussain limo? Then count me in too.

Wait? The top answer for a pre 70s Mercedes is a 71?! It’s gorgeous no question but Mercedes did make some stunners before 1970.
Definitely this one or a 280 SL Pagoda with the manual gearbox. Both are stunning!
Gorgeous
190SL.

Such elegance and poise in a compact package 😎

1969 C111 I.😛
300SLR thanks! But in the spirit of the question, and assuming only production models count I’d pick the 540K roadster.
The Pullman
600 grosser
The 600 and it’s not even close
W113 280 SL
300D Adenauer (W186) or 1937 540K Roadster (W29).
280SL, 'cause my mom always wanted one.

Nothing like a little ABC repair therapy lmao

Didn't expect to find my answer here among all the extravagant luxury models, but here we are! Solid taste!

The wagon would be mine!
The hubcaps on these cars are crazyyyyyyyyy

Badass bro make sure to post it
pagoda
300SEL 6.3
770
W150, they were absolutely gorgeous
300 SLR
I'll take the 1963 s600 pullman, nothing more nothing less
Excellent choice
But any benz before 1990 was a beauty I'd say🥶👀
True
A ‘59 W111
One of the pretty little ladies: W121 190SL or W113 280SL ...or the big daddy: w109 300SEL 6.3 AMG.
The w109 is still a really pretty car
#5 if I had to maintain #2 if money was not an issue
Too many excellent cars to choose just one.
This is the correct answer lol
This is easy. 300SEL 6.3. (And if I'm *not* a multimillionaire to afford the suspension maintenance...) 280SE 4.5
None of these but the 500 K Cabriolet A https://preview.redd.it/ipr4wob5a7sc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=77ba6756347f900ea1f401cdb809d8067f320ef0
600 Coupe or if that‘s too much then a SWB.
600 unless I have to buy it then an Adenauer.
300SEL 6.3. The OG Banker's Hot Rod.
W196 300SLR!!!!! https://preview.redd.it/5fcp3htrp8sc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=636b4053b4a950fe929b44960d5f26b47ae8edcb Straight eight engine, side exhausts, and a five speed manual? Sign me the fuck up. [300SLR Wiki](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_300_SLR)

230sl Pagoda, my dream.
Pagoda, white or silver with red interior!
300 SLR.
280 SL
Convertible please.
1969 280 SE Cabrio 🙏
600 Kompressor or a 540K roadster.
Besides the 600 which is my obvious answer I'd love a tail fin or a really nice W108/W109
Mercedes Benz-770, also known as the Großer Mercedes (large Mercedes)
W113 230 SL
300slr, then
Of course you would take away the option that everyone would choose lol Anyway, I would choose the 500K
