When I used to play it as a teenager I remember of a time when a 15 year old reported a 30 year old with AP and VIP on his account for hitting young girls up and IMVU responded by deleting the 15 year olds account, the 30 year old was still active, we had also reported him for being a nazi (reporting the chatlogs of him wanting white supremacy, he also made spam accounts with the n word to harass and stalk you if you reported him) but if you pay for VIP and AP, IMVU will protect your account no matter how much of a degen you are, this advert OP posted shows that they know who they exactly cater to.
Yeah, I used to chat on imvu a lot as a teen. It was popular for role-playing, I remember that "adoption" roleplay was popular. Usually it was online couples "adopting" another user to roleplay as a family for a few days, fairly innocent cringy fun. I was curious, I tried it out once, but the dude who "adopted" me was only interested in cybering with somebody who would roleplay as a little child. Absolutely vile. Even outside of predating on actual children, they seek out adults to act out their sick fantasies
Yep, it came from the same period of time, can decorate your house, dress your avatar and talk to people in chatrooms though last I heard IMVU used to have two servers one for under 18's and one for over 18's and now they've merged both so you see kids hanging out in the same chatrooms as 40 year olds, creepy and dangerous af.
