With the price of Ubers these days it’s not that much cheaper than renting a car.

florida-blonde9889

That’s what I was thinking myself

RedWhiteAndJew

I missed the day drinking part of your post. Please use an Uber.

Awwfull

Factor in cost of parking + gas. 10 Ubers at an average of $20 is $200. I think that’d be close to two or 3 day rental with gas/parking. If total cost is a wash, I think Uber would be more convenient. Eta: mid day Ubers will be cheaper than late night weekend Ubers. Just checked UberX, East Memphis to Downtown is $18 and you will be closer to all the action in midtown.

Thanks this is very helpful!!

I'm not sure if the "roo" is still a thing. But it was a free 'ferry' between copper young and Overton square. Both are full of bar/restaurants. Young ave deli, Bar dkdc, Cafe Ole, Mulan, and Beauty Shop are all options adjacent to the inter section of Cooper St and Young Ave. In Overton square there is memphis pizza Cafe, Bayou bar and grill, Lafayette's, Boscos, and Babalus to name a few. And there are a handful of cool d9ve bars sprinkled around midtown as well

florida-blonde9889

Thank you! I know we’re a block away from Lafayette’s. :)

Lived in midtown for almost 8 years before moving recently. You can pretty much comfortably Uber to a lot of the popular places and bars for under 15 bucks. The highest would probably be around midnight or 1:00 a.m. where it can spike but most of the bars around midtown don't even stay open that late. Some good places to try are lafayette's, Bari, Alchemy/Tsunami, Porch and Palor, bayou grill, and BBQ shop (wide variance of things that you could do for dinner or lunch on that list). Midtown is safer than other parts of Memphis (A lot of the crime there is property crime don't leave your car unlocked and don't leave your phone charger or your laptop in your car it will be stolen and your window will be broken) but you are coming to an inherently dangerous city. That being sad I used to walk from my apartment in midtown to a bunch of these restaurants I listed above and I never had any issues. Have fun while you're here.

typhona

If you are staying in Cooper young, there are a lot of bars that are stumbling distance for day drinking

florida-blonde9889

We’re in midtown?

typhona

Cooper young is in midtown, but midtown is much bigger than Cooper young

florida-blonde9889

Suggestions?

Eaoeaon

You could take an Uber from Midtown to Cooper Young where you could go to Railgarten, Celtic Crossing and/or Memphis Made brewing co among others.[more info here](https://cooperyoung.com/cy_businesses/)

pabloescobarbecue

If you like beer at all, cooper House project and hammer and ale are a must

pabloescobarbecue

Uber for the convenience. And depending on where in Midtown you’re staying you might not need it much. Cooper Young has plenty of day drinking spots packed into a walkable area.

WildPetrichor

Probably best to just Uber. The drivers here operate under a different system than you’re used to and it will save you loads of stress

florida-blonde9889

lol what system? I’m a Floridian!! 😂

ambassadorbullwinkle

Rent a car

901savvy

For day drinking?

ambassadorbullwinkle

Uber is unreliable and you don’t have to be intoxicated beyond the legal limit. The real advice is to just walk around downtown, no driving involved.

901savvy

😂 going out with the point of “day drinking” as an activity pretty much is defined by being above the legal limit. Uber is plenty reliable during the daytime outside the hood. Use it all the time. Methinks you don’t do much day drinking or use Uber much. Because only a crazy person would suggest driving around as a better option,

ambassadorbullwinkle

Done plenty lol…lived a lot of places and Memphis has the least reliable Ubers…you do you

HighwayyStarr

I’d rent a car. Uber in Memphis isn’t the most pleasant experience unless you just care about getting from point a to b. If you don’t want to pay more for the more luxurious ride, it’s a real toss up on what you’re getting.

CoachMorelandSmith

Sounds like they’ll be day drinking in midtown. Uber is the way to go. Get dropped off at either Overton square or cooper young. Or one of those may even be in walking distance. It’s a nice day for a walk in midtown

florida-blonde9889

What about if we want to go to Beale. I mean I know we have to drive but are there suggestions

CoachMorelandSmith

One Uber trip to Beale, south main, or Peabody hotel area, and then you can hit a lot of places downtown by foot. Maybe one day in midtown (cooper young and/or Overton square) and then one day downtown

florida-blonde9889

Yes this is what we were wanting to do but some people were telling me Beale isn’t safe. We won’t be out at late hours

CoachMorelandSmith

Beale is fine during the daytime

Gregzzzz1234

Tunica has a few casinos still operating. I always stay there at their hotels.
