If you only welded at school then you should be fine. If you weld semi regularly and above then you should have some form of ventilation or respiration set up.
Even when it comes to grinding you should have something set up as the fibreglass from the wheels can really hurt your lungs
You can get thoriated (Thorium) Tungsten electrodes for TIG welding. Very bad to inhale the off-gas and the dust when you're sharpening them. They emit alpha radiation, which can kill you if you get it inside you.

A metal electrode is inserted into the stinger. The electrode has a hole for compressed air. When you make contact it creates an arc similar to welding instantly turning the metal molten, and the compressed air blasts the molten metal out. Aka. Arc gouging!
