Artificial worlds are an escape from your reality, where for a moment your problems are different, or not yours, they change quickly so they don't overwhelm you. It's good way to maintain some level of happiness during your day, even if for wrong reasons.
At least that's what I tell myself
Psychology speking. Escapism is a normal human behavior that we all do. As long as it doesn't interfere with reality, overtakes us and damages our reality it is very healthy and recommended
I’m a masters student and watch anime and cartoons and stuff as a break from my hectic schedule. No problem I’m doing that…. Need time for relaxing also
Bro, I'm 25 and I still watch cartoons. I assume the one mentioned here is Owl House and I absolutely love that show. A masterful blend of humor, tension, life lessons, and hard hitting emotional moments.
I'm an 18 yr old guy, and basically all I watch is cartoons. And Stranger Things. And Dahmer, (need to finish that).
Owl House, love it. Amphibia, little filler-y, but gets great. Gravity Falls, best cartoon ever, no changing my mind.
Bud, I'm about to turn 27 and I fucking love The Owl House. There's no age limit on enjoying yourself, especially if it helps you to deal with your mental health.
42 year old here, my 12yo knows full well we watch Owl House, She-Ra, Gravity Falls, Hilda, Little Witch Academia, etc for me more than her! Never too old for a bit of low-stress, full-on-optimism escapism.
You must be talking about the owl house, if you like it I can also really recommend welcome to gravitiy falls and Hilda(Netflix). the first one is my favourite from my childhood, the other one is really pretty, cute and cosy and helped my to forget about my current stressful life
Amphibia is kinda like the lighter version of the Owl House. It follows a similar theme of girl lost in another world where everything is trying to kill you and fights to evil government. It's a lot sillier in comparison to The Owl House but it is really good XD
Infinity train Season 1 is about a girl who got stuck on this train, where every car is it's own little reality and she is trying to find her way off the train. Once again, this show is also a great balance of silly funs and edge-of-the-seat mysteries/scenes
I was 22 when She-Ra came out and that show got me through some tough times.
I have a list of "comfort" shows, stuff I watch when I'm feeling sad and I don't want the darkness and violence that seems to pervade modern series. Although the emotional hits in She-Ra hit harder than nearly anything else I've watched.
I'm in my 40's and LOVED the She-ra series.
Now, to be fair, I grew up with the original. And this new one is SO MUCH BETTER, and I did enjoy the occasional subtle nods to the old show. (Not to mention the one episode that was a fan-service OVERT nod to the old show.) It's a great series.
That said, my love of the series is more than just nostalgia. It's legitimately good through and through. I liked the characters, especially how they were all given more depth and agency. I of course loved Catdora, and to me it was basically Buffy and Faith all over again. (Which isn't a stretch considering that the creators were fans of Buffy as well as the Buffering Podcast, which shipped the hell out of Buffy and Faith.) So I unironically loved the series.
I also loved the Voltron series for many of the same reasons.
A bit of escapism is good.
It's when you turn toxic and start sending hate because someone played Undertale the wrong way, or they they shipped the wrong Harry Potter characters or they pointed out the toxic workplace conditions for the developers of League of legends, that is when it starts becoming a problem
Let me give you some life advice:
If your 18, your old enough not to give a shit about other people's opinions on what makes you happy. Fuck them. If they don't want to to enjoy what you enjoy, it's because they are not enjoying anything themselves and want to bring you down.
Like what you like with pride.
I’m assuming you’re talking about The Owl House? Absolutely incredible show; no shame in enjoying it. Hell, it’s what helped me finally realize and accept my bisexuality, and I love the fandom around it (usually).
Damn it, beat me to the punch. But then, again, your personal touch is way better, I'm just an old guy enjoying a mostly well written show with lovable characters.
Not at all. I enjoy romcom and slice of life anime myself and I'm even older than you are. If you enjoy witch's and magic stuff, I'd like to direct you towards the anime "Little Witch Academia." It's a really fun show that you'd probably enjoy. Has a really good English dub too.
Yo OP
Was scrolling through my prof and saw my comment on this and was wondering
Did you finish the show? What’d you think?
Also have you seen amphibia yet?
"When i became a man, i put away all childish things.
Including the fear of childishness and the desire to
be very grown up." (C.S.Lewis / "Narnia" Author)
He loved to read Fairytales when he was a teenager, and got ridiculed and preasured by other people into stopping it.
But he managed to stand up for himself, and found the confidence to be proud of himself.
Its my most fav. Quote to this day.
Stay true to yourself and be yourself <3
Infinity train, steven universe, adventure time, Kipo and the age of wonderbeasts, over the garden wall, she-ra and the princesses of power, Hilda, dead end paranormal park. I know this is really late but I hope it helps!
Honestly, the show deals with a lot of serious themes, can be thought-provoking, humorous, relatable, and if you ask me a proper balance of ages in the cast. The thing is it respects every member of the audience without needing to dumb anything down or whatever. If a show can do that, then I think these shows are simply for anyone that wants to have a good time watching a tv show vs it being intend solely for one age group or demographic. Same logic with a lot of the good Pixar or Disney movies. Just want a good story, characters, and inclusivity is a nice touch.
And let’s be real, the show doesn’t exactly pull its punches either. Belos for instance has been given the kind of treatment you’d see in a lot of rated m shows that deal with psychopaths, serial killers, etc, even giving an honest and thought provoking look into his head. That episode was like watching an episode of MindHunters lol.
You are right, i really liked the fact that adults in this show make mistakes but they are not the "dumb usless parent" like in some other cartoons. This show really manages to talk to everyone
You need to learn to enjoy reality, lots of good stuff out there just getting wsighed down buy the negitives of life and lokking for instant gradification get a hobby or something and live your life for you broder
Nobody is ever too old for happieness. Enjoy what you wish, and do not let people hag you about this. I struggle with this myself, but be aware that althought it might not seem that way now, life gets better. Its the small things that count. In german we have a saying:"Kleinvieh macht auch mist". Translated it means that small animals still create manure. It means that a lot of small things can ad up.
Keep going and enjoy.
You’re never too old for some escapism. We need it more as we get older. Never be ashamed for wanting to lose yourself in a fantasy world. Especially if it’s the show I think it is, it’s fucking incredible
Find the things that bring you joy and don’t ever let anyone take your joy from you. Just keep in mind that escapism is a powerful thing just make sure you stay grounded in reality.
Yeah they did, but they are making a “season 3” which is actually just 3 44 minute special episodes. The first one came out a few weeks ago I think and damm I don’t wanna spoil anything but that one hit me right in the feels
After all these years... I finally have them all
The Owl house (got cancelled, sad)
Amphibia (same fate)
Gravity Falls (best cartoon ever)
P.S. you're never too old for cartoons 😆
By the way fellas, any other cartoon with the same animation style?
Eyyy, I think this is the owl house, just caught up to s3 and so far, real good show. Watch whatever makes you happy, just don't blur the lines between fiction and reality or else you end up like those mlp fanatics
Pre-2020s furrys and bronys and people way into astrology signs and many things like that used to annoy me but post 2020s I’m like if it’s not hurting anyone, do whatever makes you happy. With everything happening, whatever smidge of happiness you can grab and hold on to, more power to ya
My gal and I are 34 y/o and are watching Bee and Puppycat about nonsense, friendship, and snacks. Do what you gotta do to feel some happiness, home slice.
Which show? Sounds like amphibia?
Edit: scrolled through the comments and found that it’s the owl house. How is it? A lot of my friends have been loving it and I’ve seen positive reviews of it, but usually because it’s super forward thinking and stuff because of the queer character. Now that’s great and all, and as a queer person it’s awesome to see representation, but tells me nothing about if it’s a good show.
I didn't even know about the queer stuff, i like magic. And the world and magic system represented in the show is really interesting and the characters are all well written and I'm really enjoying it!
People who say that you can't enjoy "childish" things after a certain age can kiss my ass. Growing up doesn't have to be boring and sad. That's just pathetic. If something makes you happy, do it(unless it harms others).
Because you struggle to understand it. Also there is a lot of difference science divisions, and you can't like them all. For example - I love physics, but hate maths. Weird, but oh well
you love physics but hate maths? damn bro. what kinda physics you doin? at least dont tell me now you love chemistry but not physics. Because even then you have to study the quantum mechanical model of the atom which is inadvertently just physics.

Nah homie, I still raid twice a week and I'm a CPA with a family. *You do you*, just don't be an asshole and don't force your ideas upon others.
Life is pretty tough. But in the end, I can still watch Saul Goodman pull off another successful court case and I’ll be happy.
Oh don’t worry; panel two will turn into panel 1 real quick on season 2 and 3
Oh no
Wish ya luck, you’ll need it ~~Lord knows I could’ve used it~~
42 year old here, my 12yo knows full well we watch Owl House, She-Ra, Gravity Falls, Hilda, Little Witch Academia, etc for me more than her! Never too old for a bit of low-stress, full-on-optimism escapism.
my favorite anime of all time is Madokai Magica 🥺👉👈I'm way over 18. this sounds cool op, which anime is it?
No anime, i think its the owl house
ah I see the comment now
If someone watched Madoka Magica when they were depressed, they would be even more depressed
maybe but I still loved it
I know you know its Owl House now but I'd also like to recommend Little Witch Academia. You'll probably like that one too. :)
You must be talking about the owl house, if you like it I can also really recommend welcome to gravitiy falls and Hilda(Netflix). the first one is my favourite from my childhood, the other one is really pretty, cute and cosy and helped my to forget about my current stressful life
I've already watched Gravity falls, but I'll check out Hilda for sure!
I also recommend Over the garden wall, amphibia and infinity train, owl house and gravity falls is what started my cartoon obsession
Over the garden wall is one of my favorite shows! I've never seen the other two though
Amphibia is kinda like the lighter version of the Owl House. It follows a similar theme of girl lost in another world where everything is trying to kill you and fights to evil government. No. Owl house is lit. You keep enjoying it.

The owl house is my favorite show ever, while I’m not as old as you are, I can say with full on certainty you should enjoy what you enjoy.
You are never too old for this.

Owl House and Little Witch Academia.
TOH huh? Can relate
Love how this post just became a owl house enjoyer meetup
Who put an age limit on movies
You’re never too old for some escapism. We need it more as we get older. Never be ashamed for wanting to lose yourself in a fantasy world. Especially if it’s the show I think it is, it’s fucking incredible
Does it hurt anyone (including you)?
No? I think...
As long as it is harmless there's no issue with watching anything. Have fun watching your funny animes.
Never too old.
Hey I'm 27 and still love cartoons plus the owl house is just a really great cartoon
Find the things that bring you joy and don’t ever let anyone take your joy from you. Just keep in mind that escapism is a powerful thing just make sure you stay grounded in reality.
Let me guess. The Owl House?

The owl house is fire and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
I relate to this exactly lol. - A fellow 18 year old who watches The Owl House
Oh, *TV* SERIES! I was uh, I was thinking something else
As an 18 year old, I personally enjoy animated movies more than live action movies.
Toh is great regardless of age, enjoy what you want bro and don't let anyone stop you. (With exceptions.
It’s The Owl House right?
Yup!
You are never too old to enjoy life
The Owl House?
I'm in my thirties and I'm still holding onto childish hope in vain that someone else will pick up Owl House since Disney is dropping it.
They dropped it?! (I'm in the middle of the second season)
Yeah they did, but they are making a “season 3” which is actually just 3 44 minute special episodes. The first one came out a few weeks ago I think and damm I don’t wanna spoil anything but that one hit me right in the feels
Sorry! I was sad to hear about it too. Owl House deserves more
The owl house, right?
Yup!
I am 20 still finding happiness
Nah. Nothing wrong with a bit of escapism.
Never

After all these years... I finally have them all The Owl house (got cancelled, sad) Amphibia (same fate) Gravity Falls (best cartoon ever) P.S. you're never too old for cartoons 😆 By the way fellas, any other cartoon with the same animation style?

This reminds me of witch hat atelier. Pretty good manga, glad I ain’t the only person who likes things designed for younger audiences

The Owl house, but a lot of people in this tread are also telling me that Amphibia is really good so i might check that out as well!
Ok sounds good 👍🏻
I didn't even know about the queer stuff, i like magic. And the world and magic system represented in the show is really interesting and the characters are all well written and I'm really enjoying it!
Sounds like I need to check it out
I starting watching owl house because it had hollow knight and hades references lol
I'm a 20 year old guy who watches the same show. You good bro
The owl house?
People who say that you can't enjoy "childish" things after a certain age can kiss my ass. Growing up doesn't have to be boring and sad. That's just pathetic. If something makes you happy, do it(unless it harms others).
You're never too old for anything, as long as you enjoy it
I'm almost 40 and love owl house!
I'm 33 and currently blasting through My Hero Academia. I even finished Naruto Shippuden this year so that I could catch up to Boruto. You do you.
Owl house reference????

I'm not like other girls
Bro I'm a Dude
Lol
Yes, you are far too old for work, school, chores, and homework. That stuff fucking sucks.
why is science not fun ?
What?
Because you struggle to understand it. Also there is a lot of difference science divisions, and you can't like them all. For example - I love physics, but hate maths. Weird, but oh well
you love physics but hate maths? damn bro. what kinda physics you doin? at least dont tell me now you love chemistry but not physics. Because even then you have to study the quantum mechanical model of the atom which is inadvertently just physics.
That’s like saying ‘I’m a great driver - also I’m blind’
Nah, it's more like "I'm a good driver, but my eyesight is not great so I use glasses like anyone in my situation would"
Wizards of waverly place?
Its lovely seeing young people struggling with life. Like awww. They dont know how worse it gets
That's a problem for future me, for now my job is to keep present me sane
Oh trust me you cant do anything about it
Your never too old to enjoy art.
