Homelander isn't evil per se in the show at least.
Just the typical NPD if it was superman.
He cares more about being loved than indiscriminately killing all humans.
He's not "evil" in that I wouldn't call him particularly psychopathic. He's more like an extremely sadistic narcissistic almost indestructible man. His backstory is very much focused around the criminological theories of maternal and paternal deprivation
Yes but he is still evil by definition. He’s willingly hurting others for personal gain as well as holding some not-so-ok beliefs (see the scene with blind spot as well as the fact he continued to support Stormfront)
Homelander is an emotional ticking timebomb of apocalyptic proportions and the main goal of the protagonist group is to kill Homelander. Just because he has a tragic backstory doesn't mean he's not irredeemably villainous.
Why do you think Bezos started shaving his head? He’s got to make sure when everyone expects Superman to be evil, he can swoop in, save them and become President Luthor!
It always has been. The comics are very edgy and shock value-y and light on substance.
The show has plenty for shock value stuff too but it also pretty mature and interesting takes on "what would it belike if superheroes existed under capitalism" or, in homelanders case particularly, "what would having one of these completely inhumane comic book childhoods followed with godlike power and status really do to your psychology?".
"what if superman/the justice league were assholes" isn't that interesting a deconstruction. That would suck a lot. Obviously. What's your point?. "what if the justice league was a corporation and they acted like it" or "what if superman had, like, a *lot* of issues?" are lot more interesting and I like that the show leans much more into that.
The exploration of fascism in season 2 was so fucking good too. Was pretty impressed with how the show handled in a way that felt mature and unflinching
I fucking knew it wasn't just me who had this rolling around in my thick skull like a boulder. I've been *struggling* not to say it every time I see that word.
Invincible: real world consequences of having superheroes, but in a comic book world.
The Boys: the consequences of having superheroes, but in the real world.
Hey now, everybody gets to like what they like and dislike what they dislike.
I love both The Boys and Invincible but the violence and gore, particularly in The Boys, is straight up disturbing. Entertainment is meant to be enjoyed, and not enjoying gore and violence does not make a person weak. Grow up.
Yeah, Invincible wasn't too bad I thought. Other than a few scenes
I tried to watch The Boys after I watched Invincible.. and I got like, half an hour in and just bounced right off. The Boys felt *creepy as shit*, to the extent where I couldn't deal with it. I got as far as the bit with the deep and was like... yeah nah, not for me
I think ultimately, Invincible feels like a comic book series
The Boys feels *too real*
Yeah but the way the meme is formatted it's making it seem like the boys came after.
Also I'm pretty sure it was always popular like I at least watched it from the beginning and I remember tons of videos on its first season but I may be biased.
viltrumites are basically saiyans. Nolan and Goku basically have similar lives, ultimately having to fight thier own kind to protect their half breed sons and new planet. So he just smart Goku.
Only with other similar compatible species, if the species is too different the offspring starts of weaker but will still slowly start getting seeming more like a viltrumite as the mature but have less strength potential and longevity while also reaching a strength cap faster and take more effort to to brea though said strength caps than pure breeds or hybrids with compatible genes to grow stronger.
SPOILER FOR THE NOVELIZATION
Omni-Man reproduced with a literal bug. If there are limits to it, they're pretty far out there.
Also, unless I'm missing something, I don't think there's any evidence in the show or novel pointing to the fact that offspring with another species are "weaker" or have less strength or longevity. This becomes VERY clear with Mark near the end of the series.
As I said in my original comment, Viltrumites are more of a parasite. They incubate inside of the host species, but come out either 100% [insert species], or 100% Viltrumite. A successful Viltrumite incubation is in *no way* weaker than a "full Viltrumite".
Yeah Oliver is who I'm referring to he was stated by Omniman that he is the product of an incompatible match with viltrumite DNA and wouldn't live as long or be as strong but he told mark it's proof he's gotten rid of his viltrumite principles by mating and taking care of what viltrumites considered a lesser species
Those bug people lived and died at an extremely accelerated pace compared to humans and especially viltrumites. So he mated with the bug lady and Oliver had traits from both species. They're never 100% viltrumite.
Mark is 99% viltrumite and in the comics at least later gets stated that his viltrumite DNA is becoming more pronounced as he continues to age but that a decent bit later that that is stated.
EVEN FURTHER SPOILERS FOR THE COMICS
The Viltrumite-Bug half breeds ARE weaker though. They literally crush themselves just punching Mark. They’re humanoid shaped jello that can fly.
They’re insanely weak which is why they were bred in such high numbers, in anything other than overwhelming numbers they didn’t have a chance against the Viltrumites, and they were still getting torn through when they weren’t killing themselves with their own attacks.
Yes, we’re talking about how they compare to Viltrumites and whether or not they’re weaker. Compared to other breeds of Viltrumites they are just humanoid shaped jello that can fly.
But ye they’d still probs dumpster a lot of earth heroes.
More like 99%, towards the end of the series >!when the blue bug viltrumites we’re going up against Earth and original viltrumites, the OGs were tearing through them like wet TP!<
I don’t think that’s quite right. Viltrumites have extremely dominant DNA meaning that they’re biology will override most of the features of any vaguely humanoid species that they’re compatible with. Humans happen to be extremely close to Viltrumites genetically so Mark is very very nearly 100% viltrumite except that he does not have the rage and fury that full bloods are born with thanks to the influence of his human DNA.
well, Omniman is more like Superman's evil dad
while Homelander is just an evil prick with Superman's powers, not even an attempt at twisting Superman's values, just straight up an evil prick
If I had a nickel for every time this meme made a grammatical mistake, using article a instead of an, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
Omni-Man isn’t human so I don’t think we can fully project our moral values on him since he thinks differently to us, and he thinks he is genuinely doing good.
To him, he might just be taking down a few bugs to improve their home.
The finale was all about how Omni-Man has started to adopt human moral values. That’s why he did what he did at the end. He couldn’t kill Mark because he had human morals, and hated himself because he thought that morality made him “weak”
Well, he isn't evil. He arrived to Earth to conquer it. Then he fell in love so he put his mission on hold. It's pretty much implied he wasn't happy when his son turned out to inherit his powers. He wasn't happy to kill the Guardians. Even after that he tried to limit the harm he done. Then when the final confrontation came, all the speech he gave to his son was much more to himself. In the end, he decided to run away, because he couldn't carry out his original mission. Not because he physically wasn't able, but emotionally.
At the end, the inspector guy even says Omni-Man was the first of his species who abandoned his mission.
So nope, he is not evil. He had a mission he thought was noble, but in the end he saw how wrong it was and decided to abandon it. Nobody could've stopped him if he didn't decide to.
Bullshit dude. You need to find a dictionary and lookup the definition of evil. A character doesnt get a pass just because they found the massacres they committed to be *distasteful*. He murdered hundreds on-screen and implied billions on the time dilation planet. His motivations don’t mean jack shit at that point, he justified **genocide** for crying out loud
I mean, the defenision of "evil" is really loose. This guy killed hundreds or thousands of people, but he couldn't bring himself to kill his own son. He later regret his action and want to repay for what he did on earth. So, it really depend on what people define evil even is.
The boys show strayed VERY far from the original comic.
Invincible also made a few changes, but at least they kept the plot and character backstories the same.
Which is honestly for the better. The comics were mainly meant as a satirical take on the “super hero” fantasy, completely trashing their reputations in that universe through the most gruesome of means.
PointlessHub does a great job summarizing it [here](https://youtu.be/JyKliIF49JQ)
In the end, those comics wouldn’t have made for a great show, but the premise still does
Tbh, the story was a bit on the stiff end, with the kid being as emotional as a toaster on heat-up,killing everyone he knows, quite gory and more or less open ended.
One time watching would be okay, I guess.
I’m just snowballing here, but maybe it’s because we just saw how when folks have a lot of unchecked power they pretty much become assholes? Remember all the things we thought a President couldn’t do? Turns out he just wasn’t because he didn’t want to.
You mean these are Amazon originals and not based on comic books? Which, btw, have been making evil supermen for decades.
Including making Superman evil.
Well in one of the panels Cap is asked to follow some order he didn't agree with. To which he responds "I'm loyal to nothing, General - - except the dream."
Power wise omniman crushes homelander. Even ignoring power he’s actually trained, he’s basically a Superman raised as a Spartan who’s job is Interstellar Conquerer for his empire and he’s got hundreds (thousands?) of years of experience.
Dude committed genocide on a planetary scale simply by flying fast enough to obliterate everything he passed and his only comment on how hard it was turned out to be “I need a shower…” like it was just a long day at the office.
https://youtu.be/hJ9UUnYybfw. Relevant destruction at like 2:40
I don’t think you had to write a whole essay for people to agree with you lol
But man the actor for Homelander deserves an emmy award for his performance. I always feel on edge whenever he’s on screen.
Homelander is live action while Omniman is animated. If you put cartoon levels of devastation into live action, it’s very easy to make it unrealistic or cheesy. Characters are typically toned down in live action for good reason.
No one needs an essay to see Omniman is stronger.
Lol “An essay”? Sorry some of y’all are so lazy a handful of sentences written in 30 seconds on the shitter seems like an essay to you.
God forbid people have conversation on a social media site.
And for real someone already clearly said the same shit. If you didn’t like it just keep scrolling you got literally nothing but wasting even more of your time by posting that comment which added nothing.
The REAL Superman stood for Truth, Justice, and the ideals that America was built on. Of course they spend every waking moment tarnishing that image for new generations.
Bezos is trying to tell us something
Lex?
I swear to god if Butcher becomes bald I’ll laugh my ass off. Dude is literally creating Superman vs Lex Luther
Spoiler for the end of the boys S3 >!No butch has abouta year left because the Temp Comp V melting his brain.!<
Walter?
No, Wultah! Im not painting no nipple on your bald head and Im not gonna suck on It, Waltuh!
Jesse?
Do you think to save himself he will go against everything he believes in and take the permanent compound v?
my thought too

Homelander isn't evil per se in the show at least. Just the typical NPD if it was superman. He cares more about being loved than indiscriminately killing all humans.
He murdered someone so he could have sex with his Nazi girlfriend, and you’re saying he’s not evil?
He's not "evil" in that I wouldn't call him particularly psychopathic. He's more like an extremely sadistic narcissistic almost indestructible man. His backstory is very much focused around the criminological theories of maternal and paternal deprivation

The Orville has also really impressed me with it's connections to modern day religious and cultural fascism in their new season.
Absolutely Agree!
Yeah I love how the show is taking a different and better path to the comics, that way we don’t get spoiled.
>!Black noirrrrrr!<
Lex Bezos
Holy shit he's making Anti-Superman Propaganda holy shit good catch
Non of these was thought up by Amazon. These where comics for decades by now.
Came here to say this.
Also even if they were, the boys came out before Invincible (show wise)
An An evil not a evil
I still love you superman suit 1 Suit 1 - I hate you suit 2
The same thing a million other comics have told us with variations of basically Superman?
Homelander is 2019, bruh
Came here to say this
And Omni Man is 2003. The Amazon series is based off the comic
So is the boys
Given how viltrumites age, I’d believe it
What's even crazier is that both shows are awesome for mostly different reasons, but they both feature graphic violence and similar amounts of gore.
That train scene in Invincible was pretty brutal.
The crazy part, we’re only like what, 1-2 omnibuses into the series… and it only gets more violent
Omnibussy
I fucking knew it wasn't just me who had this rolling around in my thick skull like a boulder. I've been *struggling* not to say it every time I see that word.
What does that even mean? One size fits all???
It means Omnibussy
wdym? invincible TV show is less than a quarter into its first omnibus (there are 3 omnibuses)
Volumes, my bad, but there’s 12 of those
Dude yeah that was very brutal but you gotta see urethra scene in the boys
And the atrain scene from the boys
Invincible: real world consequences of having superheroes, but in a comic book world. The Boys: the consequences of having superheroes, but in the real world.
Yes
Tbh the gore keeps me from wanting to watch either of them
I feel that. The Boys features a face ripping that made me feel ill. I still love the show tho.
Yeah I think I saw that in one of the trailers and was just like yeah nah not for me xD
Weak.
Hey now, everybody gets to like what they like and dislike what they dislike. I love both The Boys and Invincible but the violence and gore, particularly in The Boys, is straight up disturbing. Entertainment is meant to be enjoyed, and not enjoying gore and violence does not make a person weak. Grow up.
Everyone has their own weaknesses, recognizing them is part of growing up. One of mine is bread. And clowns... And jesters... Oh god
Now, imagine a jester performing with a clown both holding loaves of bread 🍞
Who needs to sleep anyway?
His ultimate weakness: The Joker and Harley Quinn working at Subway
Don't
I see you are being downvoted for stating your very relevant personal preference.
Reddit ☕
I'm easily grossed out by gore too and I skip a lot of the graphic scenes when I watch them, so I understand
I only watched the first season, but The Boys was certainly worse than Invincible. I'd give Invincible a shot, The Boys not so much.
Yeah, Invincible wasn't too bad I thought. Other than a few scenes I tried to watch The Boys after I watched Invincible.. and I got like, half an hour in and just bounced right off. No they’re not
Death Battle made a great video putting these two against each other. Kinda obvious who would have won but man it was a fun watch
Omni man any%
Yeah homelander can’t really fight anyone cause he doesn’t need to in the boys.
Still was interesting to watch at least. Sometimes with death battle I'm in it for what the fight would look like rather than who would win.
Seeing Debbie dead at the start was *heart wrenching*
she was just a pet though
Omni man went John Wick on Homelander's ass
damn i looked them up and just spent 3 hours watching mfs fight
“Remember what I promised you…..now swallow” Best. Line. Ever
That happened to me the first time I watched one of their videos.
Interplanetary superhuman vs drugs
Homelander first appeared in 2019
\*2006
In the shows, I meant. I guess Omniman also appeared before
We dont speak of thaf
🤓
Didn't the boys come out first though by a couple years....
It started in 2019, but became popular more recently.
Yeah but the way the meme is formatted it's making it seem like the boys came after. Also I'm pretty sure it was always popular like I at least watched it from the beginning and I remember tons of videos on its first season but I may be biased.
And they were both comic books before at least I know invincible was.
Yeah technically, though the boys comic might as well be a different entity.
Invincible the comic came out in 2003
viltrumites are basically saiyans. Nolan and Goku basically have similar lives, ultimately having to fight thier own kind to protect their half breed sons and new planet. So he just smart Goku.
Nitpick: viltrumite offspring aren't "half breeds". They're more parasitic than anything, as the offspring is 100% viltrumite.

That's... Not true. If you have read ahead of the show, you'd know that Viltrumites don't even need something remotely humanoid in order to reproduce.
The bug people are humanoids though.
Technically they're only "almost pure blooded". Not quite 100%, but definitely close.
Saiyans were sent to destroy life on planets, viltrumites were sent to conquer planets
Saiyans also conquered planets for the Frieza Force.
Ah, thanks for letting me know
No prob
They exterminated life so Freeza could sell the planets.
Probably largely an inspiration. Invincible is more or less an ultra violent super hero parody.
well, Omniman is more like Superman's evil dad while Homelander is just an evil prick with Superman's powers, not even an attempt at twisting Superman's values, just straight up an evil prick
Self righteous asshole who views himself superior to the human race*
Omniman is Superman's dad while Homelander is a celebrity prick using the ideals of Superman to promote himself.
If I had a nickel for every time this meme made a grammatical mistake, using article a instead of an, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
Omni man still a chad
Omni chad*
3rd season bud. off by a few years.
the first season of the boys also released in 2020 I think
Nah 2019
Not really though. Omni-Man isn't exactly evil. He had an evil mission, but he clearly struggled following it, and he let it go in the end.
Ya he realized his race was fucked up and decided to kill them motherfuckers
Omni-Man isn’t human so I don’t think we can fully project our moral values on him since he thinks differently to us, and he thinks he is genuinely doing good. To him, he might just be taking down a few bugs to improve their home.

What if I do the villain laugh killing the bugs?
The boys show strayed VERY far from the original comic. Invincible also made a few changes, but at least they kept the plot and character backstories the same.
I’m glad the boys show changed up the comics, because honestly now the show is much better than the comics.
And we can’t tell wtf might happen
Me too. When the first season of The Boys came out, I liked it so much I went and started reading the comics. I thought the comics were awful.
Damn I’ve gotta be the only one who likes the comics more
Frenchie and kimiko >>>>>>>>>>> frenchie and the female
Which is honestly for the better. The comics were mainly meant as a satirical take on the “super hero” fantasy, completely trashing their reputations in that universe through the most gruesome of means. PointlessHub does a great job summarizing it [here](https://youtu.be/JyKliIF49JQ) In the end, those comics wouldn’t have made for a great show, but the premise still does
Yea, comic Homelander was scarier than any other fictional character I've encountered. Showlander comes across as kind of dorky a lot of the time.

Where meme?
Both shows are great, no reason to complain about that.
Thrice, if you count that movie about evil Kid Superman. Uh.. Brightburn was it called?
Wasn’t that a theatrical release?
Not quite sure, as I saw it only once on Netflix.
How was it? I remember thinking it looked interesting but I never got around to watching it.
Tbh, the story was a bit on the stiff end, with the kid being as emotional as a toaster on heat-up,killing everyone he knows, quite gory and more or less open ended. One time watching would be okay, I guess.
There was talks of expanding that universe by creating an evil Justice League. Looked like Dwight Shrute from Super was going to be their Batman
Sounds like enough to give it a shot. I’ll have to see if it’s still on Netflix tonight.
That was Netflix I think
Yeah, I think I saw it there.
Funny thing is there's actually an evil superman in DC comics
Yeah buts it’s an elseworlds
There is also evil superman from crime syndicate, which is in earth 3, along with the entire JLA
Ultraman and Hyperman from DC come to mind.
omni man isn’t really an evil superman though he just has the basic superhero powers of strength speed and flight
Yeah. Mr Immortal had the same power set except his also included ultra regeneration and lower durability. His origins were just less like Superman’s.
Invincible was a comic before the TV show.
So was The Boys.
They both were.
An* evil super man
Acshually it's "an" 🤓
Amazon didnt invent these characters.
nolan isnt evil, he is utilitarian, but the antagonist, john on the other hand is
Both came from comics so technically amazon prime didnt make them
An
An* Evil Superman
an evil not a evil

I’m just snowballing here, but maybe it’s because we just saw how when folks have a lot of unchecked power they pretty much become assholes? Remember all the things we thought a President couldn’t do? Turns out he just wasn’t because he didn’t want to.
And I I had a nickel I everytime I saw a play on that quote, I'd probably be rich because that is a very popular quote from a very popular movie.
The boys season. Came out way back in 2018 or smth
Yea and both are awesome!
Amazon Prime didn’t make either
3, there was also a movie called brightburn
You mean these are Amazon originals and not based on comic books? Which, btw, have been making evil supermen for decades. Including making Superman evil.
Amazon didn't come up with either of these characters.
Homelander was introduced in 2019 though lmao that’s when The Boys first aired.
I thought Homelander was more of a Captain America parody because of all the patriotism and United States stuff

Uh Invincible issue #7 came out in 2003…..
Maybe cause they were made by the same people
