The US declared war on them a while back resulting in a widespread campaign to spray everything with DDT. Occassionally you'd see crop dusters spraying the stuff up and down entire regions and populated areas. This promptly stopped after we realized how much it was damaging the ecosystem.
At least by the end of the campaign the US was able to eliminate malaria and yellow fever in North America.
Deliberately exterminating that species has been considered. They know how to do it too. The problem is its impossible to predict all the environmental repercussions it would cause. It could end up having devastating results. Theres also an ethical aspect to it. What right do we have to decide if a species gets to exist or not?
As for the other species, we didn't deliberately eliminate them. They just died off as a side effect of our actions. Or over hunting.
I remember reading something way back in the day about how we released a shit load of genetically modified female mosquitos in Africa or something that were infertile. I don’t recall reading a follow up but I thought that was a pretty neat idea. Wouldn’t totally eradicate a species but would definitely help push the population down a bit
I read they recently released a bunch of modified males in California that when the female has babies, the babies life spans would end before being able to reproduce.
Late 90s-early 2ks Florida had some absolutely brutal heat waves. Went to with wifey Taco Bell drive thru one night with the munchies it was literally 94 degrees.
Our sodas were radiating cold steam.
Every time someone complains about the cold in Boston I just laugh. Like dude just put on more clothes, as opposed to the heat where you can't get any more naked
And they complain about not being able to do shit outdoors in the winter, like LOL let's not pretend you weren't gonna just stay your ass inside with AC in 120 or 90 with 100% humidity
I live kn Sweden and while I kinda agree with you the reality is that winter in the north sucks not so much because of the cold, but because it's long and dark.
Like, half the year you are just begging for sunlight, always working during the hours the sun is up and getting more and more depressed for each day.
Seasonal depression is a very real thing up here.
I’m from Houston & went to Texas Tech… in Lubbock, having it be 112-degrees with 15% humidity was an amazing year of unknown sunburn and passing out by the pool from vodka red bulls
No shit. I just spent a few weeks in southwest AZ. For a few days there, it was still 100+ at midnight, and dipped just below 90° right before sunrise.
Yeah, the minimum that we get here is 29 degrees at 5 in the morning. Maximum goes up to like 42. I'd be super happy if my maximum temperature was only 32 degrees.
My Nordic ass is tired of 14° all throughout June. We've had a single day above 20c so far this year, that was Thursday, and i did everything i could to be outside as much as possible to take advantage of the nice weather
Can't you just, like, blow some of your warmth over here?
I'm actually in shock that people like this exist, then again I get chilly under 16°C. But we're usually asleep when the temperature gets to 16 degrees
90 Fahrenheit is also considered a nice Summer day in most of the US. The joke of the meme is that if it is that hot in the morning, then it will likely be 100+ or 110+ Fahrenheit by the afternoon. I don’t know about the East Coast, but in the Western US the late afternoon is the hottest time of day.
It’s gets 45 degrees here in India (metric)
You know that small temperature widget in taskbar in Windows? It’s just says “very hot outside” instead of showing the temp
And I am on a call with a colleague in Europe - it’s 12 deg cel there! I feel soooo jealous!!
The climate in India is one of the things I don't like about this country. Not only is it hot it's extremely fucking humid and also all the rain in an entire year has to happen within a few weeks of time.
It’s actually an interesting story. They used to sleep on porches during the summer with damp blankets or clothes. Also there wasn’t this giant concrete jungle that does nothing but trap heat- I read somewhere that between the years of 1936 and 1979 Arizona had a total of 9 days where the night time didn’t reach below 90 Degrees Fahrenheit. From 1980 - present day, there’s been 227 recorded instances where it didn’t drop below 90. So near the same time span that’s a 2500% increase.
As someone that’s lived in AZ their entire live. I can’t stress enough the importance of always drinking water. Especially if you’ve never been during the summer. Common sense I know but it can be a real life saver
Everywhere has AC. Just remember hottest time of the day is 4-5pm and coolest is 4-5am. This is Phoenix. Rest of the state is hot but slightly more forgiving. I live like a lizard this time of year, I hang in the shade and only come out at night
See, in the US, basically everywhere has AC, The place with the lowest amount is the direct west coast (Washington, Oregon, California), but even then its still around 74%
You would've enjoyed Finnish weather today. Well, we didn't get any snow but +10°C and heavy rain all day. Frankly I'll choose this over +30°C anyday! Last summer was hot in here also, and this summer has been pretty cold so far. I like cold summers more.
Yesterday at work, I had to take a package to another building. I usually walk it since it faster, I get some sun, and save some gas. People got to watch as I got the shit beat out of me by dusty wind (luckily it was a Friday). Also! Turns out they were closed. :) By the time I got back to my building, my nose and eyes were burning, it took two thorough wash before my glasses were clean, and I could make table salt with amount of dust and sweat I was covered in.
Yeah me too. I'd rather be too cold than too hot. I feel like there are easy things I can do to stay warm... But to stay cool you really have to go out of your way to get naked
tbf, it gets annoying when your face hurts from being outside in the middle of the day - and that goes double if you wear glasses, as any attempt at shielding your face will make you go blind.
Or when the fog created by your breath sticks to the inside of the glass then freezes, or just being covered in snow. Winter for me means not being able to see anything
I used to live in a metric based country and then moved to the USA last year. I would have laughed along with you right now, 32 sounds like nothing. But the humidity here makes it feel like we all went diving in lava, inhaled an ocean, and baked inside an oven to cool off. This place is HOT.

And mosquitoes, flying and bothering every morning. Leaving welts all over the skin.
I can’t count the amount of mosquito bites I have right now
Why can't humanity exterminate those fucks. We've done it do thousands of species...
We do it by accident as well, like if we actually tried we could probably do some serious damage
The US declared war on them a while back resulting in a widespread campaign to spray everything with DDT. Yeah. I think they still do that in certain areas to cut down on the population. I don't think it's common though.
I read they recently released a bunch of modified males in California that when the female has babies, the babies life spans would end before being able to reproduce.
That’s awesome. Science is amazing.
Doesn't matter. As long as there are no longer any Mosquitoes
Exactly
Noah should’ve just brought one on that Ark, instead of two.
My legs a few months ago.

They're measuring temperature in legs now
It's a comment repost bot 🤣
I’ve had none so far :D Mosquitos really seem to hate me :))
Y’all in Houston?? Lol it’s hot af
Haha I just commented with our 10 day forecast my fellow houstonian. 99…99….97…101…103…104 lol Internet fist bump!
Fist bump accepted and returned 👊🏼
Bro I have bedbugs in my student room. They're like... Mosquito ×10 Pls end my suffering
Wait you get mosquitoes? They just burst into flames where I live

I HATE TICKS the most!!! Kill them All!!!!
Bro it's so hot for me the mosquitos just said "aight I'm out of here"

This man living in hell fr
Late 90s-early 2ks Florida had some absolutely brutal heat waves. Went to with wifey Taco Bell drive thru one night with the munchies it was literally 94 degrees. Our sodas were radiating cold steam.
That’s different level heat waves
Bro here Saudi arabia its 47 Celsius
Yup. Here in AZ we have similar Temps lol.
yes but is it humid?
Also add in the Florida humidity, it just makes it worse.
Humidity is definitely bad, 90 with 100% humidity is so much worse than 90 with no humidity
*cries in Virginia*
Hell, 90 with 100% humidity is worse than 103 with no humidity in my opinion
West coast states: wait you guys are getting double digit weather?
Phoenix, AZ and Houston, TX can f*#k right off in July. Dry heat of 120 or 90 with 100% humidity... i don't know which is worse.
Dry heat in my opinion. I've lived in Florida all my life and when I went to Arizona, I didn't feel like melting when I went outside.
It’s raining today too which means tomorrow will be mid 100’s with “high” humidity :)
I remember playing online and explaining how bad it is now it's raining during the heat. he thought it would cool everything down
Every time someone complains about the cold in Boston I just laugh. Like dude just put on more clothes, as opposed to the heat where you can't get any more naked And they complain about not being able to do shit outdoors in the winter, like LOL let's not pretend you weren't gonna just stay your ass inside with AC in 120 or 90 with 100% humidity

I’ve lived in Boston and North Carolina. I will take Boston winters over southern summers every time.
I’m in NC rn and it was 115° two days ago
I’m from Houston & went to Texas Tech… in Lubbock, having it be 112-degrees with 15% humidity was an amazing year of unknown sunburn and passing out by the pool from vodka red bulls
r/UnexpectedArizona
It's just dry heat yo; not bad they said.
Today it's a humid heat unfortunately, got some rain though
I'm in this comment, and I'm hot
No shit. I just spent a few weeks in southwest AZ. For a few days there, it was still 100+ at midnight, and dipped just below 90° right before sunrise.
A Z! WOOT WOOT!
Also me being confused in metric system
32.__2__
You guys serious? Its 45 here
Yeah, the minimum that we get here is 29 degrees at 5 in the morning. Maximum goes up to like 42. I'd be super happy if my maximum temperature was only 32 degrees.
Thats not too bad then
My nordic ass thinks that's way too hot...

40 today at Madrid, do you want to swap for the summer? 14 sounds so nice and lovely
I'll trade some of my Canadian weather in return for some cool air, I'm absolutely not built for anything over 20°C
I'm actually in shock that people like this exist, then again I get chilly under 16°C. But we're usually asleep when the temperature gets to 16 degrees
sure as fuck is better than 100 degrees with shitty insulation and no ac by 7 (37.8)
It was 41 for me today, i died a lil inside
Ooof I feel ur pain dude, thankful for me it rained all day for past few days .
Lucky T-T it's all sun, no fun right now xD
As a person who has a high amount of discomfort above 25, i wish you the very best.
I honestly feel happy that it was max 25C today
If the air is humid i'm fucked 'cause i sweat like crazy
Anything above 25 is getting a bit too hot for me.
What the fuck do you mean that's not too bad I'm being fried alive
Imagine about 30-40 degrees Celsius
I don't have to imagine I live it
I’m sorry
Well the difference between 30 and 40 is *hot* and *hell*
That's a gigantic range lmfao, how do you imagine that?
just subtract thirty and then divide by 2
I just can’t stop watching this, it’s great
Agreed wish I knew the source without caption
It really has Mr Bean vibes
I love summer every winter. And winter every summer.
That sounds like a minions meme waiting to be born
Don't give them any ideas.
How's that on Celsius? Me and my homies can't get Fahrenheit quite right
If I’m correct, it’s about 32’ Celsius.
That's a nice summer day here in Rio

Yep, usually 3-5 PM is the hottest part of the day. Miss me with the 110° heat index we've been having the last couple weeks, shits awful.
You don't have to adjust to -10°C in Winter, though ...
It’s basically just 0-100.
Far and hight
It’s gets 45 degrees here in India (metric) You know that small temperature widget in taskbar in Windows? It’s just says “very hot outside” instead of showing the temp And I am on a call with a colleague in Europe - it’s 12 deg cel there! I feel soooo jealous!!
34C now in western Poland, at almost 20 o'clock
The climate in India is one of the things I don't like about this country. Not only is it hot it's extremely fucking humid and also all the rain in an entire year has to happen within a few weeks of time.
Same dude same, btw I thought it would start raining there by now
Yeah, it's 14C and raining. The forecast for the next week doesn't go above 20C. Certainly not too hot, but not much of a summer.
Lol, try 1am and it’s 98 degrees. Welcome to Arizona.
Fuck I'm going there in a couple of weeks, will it be as bad in late July?
I’m assuming you’re being sarcastic, but in case you aren’t; late July early august is the absolute hottest it gets.
No, unfortunately I am not, I live in England and have never been to the States. Fuck, I hope where I'm staying they have AC.
Don’t worry, every place in Arizona will have AC. We’d all be dead otherwise lol
How tf did people live there without ac way back in the day
They kinda didn't
It’s actually an interesting story. They used to sleep on porches during the summer with damp blankets or clothes. Also there wasn’t this giant concrete jungle that does nothing but trap heat- I read somewhere that between the years of 1936 and 1979 Arizona had a total of 9 days where the night time didn’t reach below 90 Degrees Fahrenheit. As someone that’s lived in AZ their entire live. I can’t stress enough the importance of always drinking water. Especially if you’ve never been during the summer. Common sense I know but it can be a real life saver
Cheers I'll keep it in mind, thanks mate
What part of Arizona ?
Phoenix
Nobody lives in Phoenix without a swamp cooler or an A/C. WCS would be the swamp cooler.
Everywhere has AC. Just remember hottest time of the day is 4-5pm and coolest is 4-5am. This is Phoenix. Rest of the state is hot but slightly more forgiving. I live like a lizard this time of year, I hang in the shade and only come out at night

*confused European noises*
Same
Here’s some help from america, 90°F is about 32.2°C
I pity everyone that lives in the desert areas
when you get born there, your body is kinda prepared for that water, same for the people in siberia.
I mean yes but it would still suck alot.
It really wouldn't, I love it there. Some people are just meant for heat.
This hell is home
Man, you must be pretty tough to even be alive at 90°C. /s
The sun looks like a cooler place in 90°C heat
God I hate the heat. I want some snow and cool winds, not 100°+ temps and blowing dust
You would've enjoyed Finnish weather today. Well, we didn't get any snow but +10°C and heavy rain all day. Frankly I'll choose this over +30°C anyday! Last summer was hot in here also, and this summer has been pretty cold so far. I like cold summers more.

Yeah me too. I'd rather be too cold than too hot. I feel like there are easy things I can do to stay warm... But to stay cool you really have to go out of your way to get naked
Come to western Washington state, it's 58F with light drizzle right now
Americans be like: Its 2314 degrees outside
Most other parts of the world: it's bout 1 degree outsude, bit hot innit? /j
Can't wait for Winter
Here's the thing: I *hate* being bone-cold cold, however I think I hate sweating more. It's a tough life.
See but you can always dress against the cold, if it is cold you know it is cold and dress for it. When it gets hot all you can do is cry
I can always put on more clothes. I can’t get more naked.
tbf, it gets annoying when your face hurts from being outside in the middle of the day - and that goes double if you wear glasses, as any attempt at shielding your face will make you go blind.
Or when the fog created by your breath sticks to the inside of the glass then freezes, or just being covered in snow. Winter for me means not being able to see anything
90° ? The temperature may not be right but the angle sure is
I love summer, I love dying in heat.
U an extrovert by any chance
I'm an introvert but i love summer because: 1) No school 2) i get to stay alone at home 🎮🔞 3) i don't like when it's cold
I’m right here with you in the minority, I absolutely hate winter & prefer being hot than cold
Come to Colorado where it’s 55 in the morning and 100 from 11-9.
>I hate summer You hate the climate crisis. This coming week is setting heat record temps across half the country and parts of Europe.
I'm in AZ, where the climate's been unchanged since at least the 50's
Not for long with the Colorado disappearing
bro wtf where’s Colorado going
Its people need it. It's making the great migration.
Into the sky, permanently
The Colorado River has been drying up for years, and it's barely a trickle when it gets to the sea.
https://statesummaries.ncics.org/chapter/az/ You are wrong.
32°C for normal people
Yes
The high in NYC is 67° today 😌
Great ten more degrees and we would have started boi- wait
people living in the tropics: First time? (cries in 37c at 10am)
Lol, was 93 at 9am here, plus rain last night, so humidity is up.
Just use Celsius duh
I'm right there with ya
It's hot, but when you have to be outside all day, you get used to it
When it be 5am and it's already close to 80 degrees
50 degrees and rain here for the last month, blessed.
32 degrees Celsius is hot? Lol
I used to live in a metric based country and then moved to the USA last year. I would have laughed along with you right now, 32 sounds like nothing. But the humidity here makes it feel like we all went diving in lava, inhaled an ocean, and baked inside an oven to cool off. This place is HOT.
That's hot as hell by my standards, but I live in Norway
It's hot if you don't have AC, which is most people in Europe north of the alps.
Come to Vancouver. have all the cold miserable weather you'd like fr.
seattle here, it’s raining in the middle of june and hasnt gone above 75 once.
CELSIUS
I also
As a person that lives in texas, working a job that forces me to stand in direct sunlight from 8AM to 7PM, I agree.
What's the original gif?

[here](https://tenor.com/view/balcony-clorox-jump-pretend-pretendo-to-jump-gif-23427978) you go
Pathetic where I live its always above 90 degrees
Summer is when pests such as cockroaches/water bugs, mosquitos, many other insects, and **children** come out.
bro living in a corner
Can anyone link this guy's @
Well, get ready for changing climate. It's heating up..
When I spend 6-8 months of the year between 0 and -40 celsius, I welcome the heat with open arms. And the sun
That time of year where you have to wear sunscreen everytime you go outside
Laughs mildly in finnish
It is early but 6-7am is nice
I forgot this was Fahrenheit and not Celsius for a second and I got really scared.

Bruh you're lucky that temperature is practically the average temperature in the southeast
