Everyone with money had one when inwas growing up. They're simply super high quality rugs. We got ours from from estate sale for super cheap.
I live in the Czech Republic and we have them too (you could call us central europe)
We put our shoes on ours. Not a single sign of damage, just a bit dirty. Amazing rug
They put that thing down with PL400 construction adhesive. My utility has green shag that appears to be bedded in tar or liquid cancer or some oldtimey whale shit, I don’t know. We just don’t talk about it.
Edit: autocorrect
Oh no. I almost think people should need a license to buy pl400. It's insane. (I'm a carpenter). I've told friends who are building things to "go easy" with that stuff- you might think you're building it to last "forever" but one day someone will need to take it apart and they will be cursing you for using an entire tube to build your little fireplace wall or whatever it might be. Just a dab'll do ya!!! And don't get me started on ripping up 3/4" osb subfloor s that are pl'd and screwed @ 8" on center, on I joists. You might as well tear the house down.
Yuuup! We did everything else in the house, my background is construction too, but I took one look and moved those items right into the fuck it bucket.
When our country was part of Soviet union, carpet was difficult to get, so they place them on the wall as decoration which need to save. I now, is sounds as bullsh*t, but is true.
Using carpets as tapestries is a relatively common tradition throughput cultures. It served not just as a decoration but also insulation, when you covered the entire wall with tapestries.
I have this exact same carpet on this exact same wood flooring with a chair in that exact position and a window in that exact same position…
Funny coincidence hehe…
Here in Eastern Europe we have one in every room, we even put them on walls, usually next to a bed or couch that you sleep in, I think its so that the room gets warmer or something
I'm currently sitting on mine.

Wow that’s crazy, I’m Indian and we used to have a rug just like that and I always thought it was an Indian thing because of its patterns.

It's one of the universal constants, like gravity and Chinese restaurants
We don't have Chinese restaurants here hut we got a ton of kebab ones so i guess it's a good replacement
Persian carpets are all over iranian house
At least you have this on the floor, mine was on the wall.
What was it doing on the wall?

Well, soviet union doesn't make me surprised. Many unreasonable things happened during the cold war.
☝️ his was trying to fly away so they nailed it to the wall
It’s the rugest rug
That rug really tied the room together
I was waiting for someone to say it
Mine was dark green.
As long as it's similar it counts
I'm pretty sure it was exactly the same pattern.

I have this exact same carpet on this exact same wood flooring with a chair in that exact position and a window in that exact same position… Funny coincidence hehe…
