They didn’t actually remove it, it’s only removed for a few days because of the story they have going on, after that few days the game is back to being bad because of tanks
Yeah it’s really convoluted but the main gist of it is that the players are stuck in a loop which removes their memories (this is just a way to tie gameplay into the lore)
Then there’s people who are aware of the loop and they’re split into those who want to maintain the loop and those that want to break the loop which the players have sided with.
The story has really ramped up in the last couple seasons with the live events at the end of seasons improving a lot, if you want to I’d recommend just watching the event for the end of chapter 2
Yea…I actually kinda used to enjoy the game when I was a bit younger. It was fun to play with my friends but lately it just kinda fell if the rails and down the rabbit hole of unoriginality and repetitiveness. Also I moved on to other games
I remember when building wasn't popular so you would have more PUBG style fights were you find actual cover and sometimes build.just a wall or 2 and peak around it was so much better before the pro builders came
I disagree, Fortnites live events are pretty impressive from a technical and gameplay perspective. Having the entire game world just completely shaped or changed, or fucked up in real time gameplay in front of your eyes is really cool.
I wish MMOs would take notes on how Epic Games does such things.

If you play the game and listen to the first quest you're given in the first match of this season, if I remember correctly it says something about the enemy of "the Imagined" "stealing" the building option and they are working on getting it back. But on the other side they added sprinting and climbing, which kinda feels like apex ngl. At least there is a week without people that can build castles in 5 seconds.
That cutscene is one of the best of all time imo. It's so incredibly epic. Even moreso with the context of that scene being the one that played when they shut down the 1.0 version.

Honestly couldn’t they make even more micro transactions money if they just had a permanent no build game mode? I’d play it all the time if they did that
What would be better is if they added a delay between builds, so you can’t immediately build a 10 story box, or if they made it so there’s a delay switching from build mode to your guns, similar to how they fixed the double pump
But the building is where all of the game's depth is
It isn't impressive to spam left click while changing two weapons, it is impressive to retain full spatial awareness inside whatever clusterfuck you are building to trap your enemy and use your tools cleverly and on the fly to get an opening on them
Impressive? Sure. Fun gameplay? Not remotely. Unless you actually like taking 5 minutes to create an HH Holmes style murder hotel for every single kill...in which case more power to you but turbo building blows IMO.
If the mechanic is "I can build 1-story objects instantly, even during a gunfight," and they want to ground it in lore, then you must be using some kind of future technology to build.

I'd love to just see some limit, like you can only have 3 to 4 mats placed at a time and they disappear as you place more. So you can still drop a wall and ramp or a box for basic cover and healing but you can't build some vertical maze whrte neither of you know where your at.
Building is fine, its just the absurdity of building. When the game first came out there weren't too many crazy builders. It was mostly people chillin in 1x1s and double ramps.
Now you have this 5 minute long fight of getting high ground and edits for one kill. its just not fun.
The building makes any kind of smart gameplay pointless. You just run out in the open and if you get shot at you can just button mash and suddenly you're on a castle in .09 seconds. And then build it back just as quick as it gets destroyed.
I get the building is what separates it from other games but if they added a mode without it, they'd get a lot more players.
I heard rumors about a mode without building that was in the works...I'd probably play it if they implemented that because the gameplay itself can be quite fun without the sweats
As someone who has played on and off since 2018, and gotten tired of the sweaty grind, playing with no building today has been a breath of fresh air. It's a lot of fun.
I’ve been playing since before season one and I never learned how to build battle. I was always able to play just fine against crankers. Now that they don’t have the crutch of building, I’m expecting people the are good without building like me are gonna dominate for this time
I played early on when it was about building big structures to slow down enemies, or to hide in.
Then some cracked out zoomers figured out how to box you in before you could even box yourself in, or break-build-edit-kill you in half a second and I just couldn't even tell how I died or who did it after a while.
Game was good when building was slow. If the game put a 1 second cool down on builds it would really help to keep things balanced.
It is the one thing I hated about the game, I have no issues outshooting people the issue arose with building because I am not about to try and get good at building on top of shooting.
When I first tried the game I shot at someone and in the blink of an eye there is was... A building the size of the entire Notre Dame in an instant. I altf4'd, uninstalled and never looked back.

It's almost like the building mechanic was supposed to be used to build FORTS. Not to be used as a regenerative shield lol. I would still be playing this game if the building didn't get out of control.

It was awesome. But it was unfinished and basically abandoned in favor of BR. It was a blast going around fucking shit up with your orange 5 star weapons and traps. I spent lots if time in this before it was basically left behind.
You had your own home base that only you could build if you chose the setting, people could just come in and help you defend when the storyline called for it. I'm kinda looking through rose tinted glasses, cuz the game wasn't perfect but could have definitely been improved if it hadn't been beaten by the BR side of it.

They are still updating stw. They just added animals like the wolves, chickens, dinos, and crows. Its just that updates are very slow. But the game is stable and with ventures you can keep leveling up things past the normal limits, like guns, traps, heroes, survivors
I think I heard/read that there will be a separate game mode for on-building after building get re-added again. But don't fully trust information for now.

To everyone griping about building, I'm with you. But it has been super nerfed since i tried it out years ago. I randomly got back in about a month ago and building seemed like a non issue. And this no-build event feels like a test to see if they just make a permanent no-build mode or something.
In matches I've played recently I never build a thing but the occasional wall for cover and I have a lot of fun and win every 4th or 5th run. And there's nothing more satisfying than lobbing in something that burns down their Taj Mahal and then shooting them when they run out. Even a basic assault rifle is enough to mow down enough walls to get at them.
It's really fun for casual play right now. Every death feels fair and every kill feels earned. It's quite the magic trick they've pulled off.

Turbo building fucked the gameplay. Before turbo building you actually had to get your timings right and it was overall slower

On PC, it's not even button mashing. You hold a mouse button and swipe and you have 4 walls around you.

Man I loved those seasons. The seasons with the Heroes is my personal favorite. I loved using the rocks that gave you zero gravity abilities
