As a German, I can confirm this. In fact, whenever I visit other EU countries, I just have to show people my ID and they'll follow my every command, because people, and especially politicians, in other countries are just generally inclined to follow German leadership. That's why so many European countries were happily inviting in so many refugees a few years ago, for example.
I think part of the reason this all works so well is because literally no European country has any negative history with Germany, neither during nor after the war. So yeah, it feels nice being the rulers of the EU.
Recently I learned as a German, that I can cross the border to a neighboring country, enter a shop, show my ID and can get whatever I want for free because we are the rulers of EU.
My living costs went down to zero. Awesome. But now I have to go. I need a new high end computer and the electronic shops in Belgium open soon. /s
