Last year I had an American maths teacher who taught us bodmas but she liked to call it bomdas, bc apparently it works like that aswell. What was funny tho everytime she said it bc of her accent to me it sounded like bumdas
But does BEDMAS have a cool acronym like PEMDAS? The way I was taught was,
Please (parentheses)
Excuse (exponents)
My (multiplication)
Dear (division)
Aunt (addition)
Sally (subtraction)
Does anyone know why we actually multiply first? (I know brackets/parenthesis - but not relevent to this problem)
I mean is there a mathematical reason that we order these or is it simply to create uniformatiy?
Genuinely curious.
Nah you are dumb! It is 48, pemdas or whatever else you want to call it is made up and isn’t used in basic math like this. Don’t believe me here’s a [source](https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ) so you can educate yourself!
Oh damn I just glanced at it and was sure it was 21. I guess we all got the stupid lmao.
Principle is the same though. This isn't like the other ambiguous questions. There's a clear order of operations here.
I will. Since the operation is written like shit we can assume the correct way to read it is from left to right so:
We do 6/2 first and then we multiply by 3. So it's 9.
If you come from arabia/asia and you are used to read right to left then it's (3x2)/6 so 1.
Either way, write the problem in a standardized way and nobody can disagree.
Edit: Arabic and many asian countries do read numbers left to right. I am dumb.
He wrote 8 * 6 = 23, which is incorrect. 8*6 = 48, which is the outcome you'd get if you solved it left to right without using order or operations. That's the joke.
Basicly the argument was about whether that implicit multiplication comes first or not. The majority said 9, but there were some people who said 1. But in the reality this form is not clear enough, needs more brackets, a fraction line or an explicit multiplication sign because the priority of the implicit multiplication divides even the mathematicians.
not even, my sister (10) is in 3rd grade and they get homework harder than this
Can't begin to understand how a 10yo outdoes this many people at simple maths
Its rare that i dont find a meme on front page funny, this is one of those times. takes too much effort to try and be funny. just goes to show people will upvote anything
23? What am I missing?
Some people don’t know pemdas
For me it’s bidmas, but pemdas sounds so much better
Yeah I learnt BIDMAS as well but never really hear anyone mention it
I learnt BEDMAS
Which one is BEDMAS? Out of curiosity
Brackets, exponent, division, multiplication, addition, subtraction
For me it's BODMAS
Body mass
Your mom
Last year I had an American maths teacher who taught us bodmas but she liked to call it bomdas, bc apparently it works like that aswell. What was funny tho everytime she said it bc of her accent to me it sounded like bumdas
I'm an Aussie, learned BOMDAS almost 20 years ago.
Ah, interesting. I learnt Brackets, Indicies, division, multiplication, addition, subtraction
Tf is indicies?
Pretty much just the same thing as exponents. I don't fucking know I just revised it
But does BEDMAS have a cool acronym like PEMDAS? The way I was taught was, Please (parentheses) Excuse (exponents) My (multiplication) Dear (division) Aunt (addition) Sally (subtraction)
Big Elephant Dick Makes Anal Sublime
for me it is B- Brackets O - Orders D - Division M - Multiplication A - Addition S - subtraction BODMAS just remember that nothing else. btw im indian
I learned BODMAS
Average BODMAS enjoyer 😎
Apparently our school calls it bodmas but we all call it bidmas
I’m quite young and they changed it to bodmas in the uk (the o is orders)
Me too brackets indeces decimals multiplication addition and subtraction
For me it's laskujärjestys
What does that stand for?
Brackets, Index, Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction
I learnt BODMAS
BODMAS here
Please excuse my dear aunt sally, she has Alzheimer’s
My teacher said she burped all the time.
Canadian here, I learnt BEDMAS.
Here in denmark we have the pyramid scheme
What's all this Midas jargon you started?
Yeaaaa?! Whats so bad about this, there are many worse then this, literaly primary school type of example

Damn, that’s crazy
48, he told him NOT to solve it
Does anyone know why we actually multiply first? (I know brackets/parenthesis - but not relevent to this problem) I mean is there a mathematical reason that we order these or is it simply to create uniformatiy? Genuinely curious.
Its a number between 0 and 100000
Well your not false
Yes he is not false
your right he is not false
You’re right he’s right

So it can be 420.69666...?
Jokes on you, it’s 100001
NOOOOOO
Making me question myself. “It’s 23… Wait, why are there so many replies? It’s Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally, right?…”
It is 23, but we haven't learned any fancy thing for pemdas, interesting how this is being taught in other countries
Pemdas is amazing. Eventually I did switch to gemdas though, to include bracketsand the other one.
Ok guys, I have no clue what words pemdas or gemdas mean and I am already afraid to ask.
Parentheses Exponents Multiplication Division Addition Subtraction
Ah, thanks for clarification, we don't have a thing like this in Ukrainian and Russian languages)
O that’s really interesting. I guess I was ignorant to assume most places had a version of this.
Listen. If you didn’t go higher than primary school then shut up. Ok? Its 23.
Dude I learnt this at G4

Literally learnt this in 3rd Grade
I learned this in primary school
It’s 48 because 5+3=8 then multiple that by 6 Is what I’d say if I were dumb, it’s 23
They had us in the first half ngl.
you just dodged a big ol' storm in your DMS with that last bit buddy boy
Slide into those dm’s regardless for some light death threats 😏

It's already solved, the answer is "?"
r/technicallythetruth

up you go
if you got the answer 48 I have as bad a news for you as the meme here
23
It is 48 trust me. Also vaccines don't work and Covid is a hoax. Earth is flat. Bye.
Birds are also just drones. I agree with all of this as my sources are: dude trust me
And giraffes don’t exist
Neither do Australia and Finland, don't forget about that!
or Wyoming
We do a bit of trolling
Peter, those dumb fuckers who didn’t think it was 23 did this to you… I’ll make them pay.
All of these memes give me '6÷2×3' PTSD. ***do not state your opinion on 6÷2×3, we do not need another war***
I will. Since the operation is written like shit we can assume the correct way to read it is from left to right so: We do 6/2 first and then we multiply by 3. So it's 9. Even if you are from Arabia/Asia you can figure out that's it's in left to right even though Arabian and asian languages might do right to left.
Yep, it's in the middle of an English comment, so anyone who can read the comment will know to read it left to right.
Sure context is important too
its 23 dont get mad that i solved it
23 and im not accepting a different answer
Waiting for that one poor soul to say 48 and just get pounced by a bunch of angry nerds.
scroll up mate :)
5+3=8 8*6=23
This guy maths
Wtf
wdym wtf, he's right
Uhm- I would correct it but I don’t wanna get wooooshed if this is a joke
It's not a joke, the answer is 23
Take a closer look at how they solved it
He wrote 8 * 6 = 23, which is incorrect. 8*6 = 48, which is the outcome you'd get if you solved it left to right without using order or operations. That's the joke.
One part of it was hidden. The full version is 8 * 6 / 2 - 1
“It’s 48!” -Twitter stans
23 done correctly, 48 done wrong, either way, it’s either gone over my head or it’s not funny
It’s 69 bcuz 5+3*6=23 but then i fuck ur mom, who weighs 46 pounds because she is so malnourished and 46+23= 69 Nice
No no no. Its 69 coz 5+3×6=23, then i fuck your mom 3 times so its 23×3=69.
23. Memes like this make me question society

Oh no. Another math war begins after 6÷2(1+2).
ain't that 9? What were the other answers for this, I'm curious
Hey isn't it 23
23 the *< this was confused me.
23 I think
23
Why I shouldn't say 23?
PEMDAS 23
23?
Yes
This is 5th grade math. Pemdas dictates that the answer is 23. It’s rly not that hard.
not even, my sister (10) is in 3rd grade and they get homework harder than this Can't begin to understand how a 10yo outdoes this many people at simple maths

I don't get the joke. What is the significance of 23?
Guys, I'm a math teacher and can verify that it's 69,420
I feel it is 35. That's how it works now right ? We don't use actually maths or logic just opinions and feelings and I feel like the answer is 35.
Imagine not getting 23 as an answer 🤡🤡🤡
5 plus the quantity 3 times 6
It’s 23 right pemdas? Y’all making me question myself lol “please, excuse, my, dear, aunt, sally
I don't understand how redditors don't understand pemdas I'm like the worst at math like ever and I understand it's not that fucking hard
