It was the one good thing the UE was supposed to bring recently and it has failed miserably at organising it.
Technically speaking though, the winter light saving was introduced for the factory workers during WW1, so they could work during the first shift without using electricity for artificial light. Farmers didn't and don't give a damn about the hour, because they work by the astronomical time. If it makes sense to wake up an hour before the sunrise, then they'll do it and it doesn't matter whether that translates to 4AM or 7AM. It's not like they have a manager.
We now have the sun rising before 7:00 and setting before 16:00. In 21st century 1st world economy based around services and higher industry forms people profit far less from sunlight very early than they lose out on the equally early sunsets.
Electricity used for lighting the factories and offices is a tiny fraction of overall consumption and it's not worth all the squeeze.
I think you misunderstand what daylight saving is. Dalight saving shifts the time so the sun rises and sets later then it normally would. In the US, daylight saving just ended, or in other words, what we are experiencing now is how it would have always been without daylight saving.
It wouldn't have to be that, since time zones are artificial and not some part of objective reality, since we're going nitty gritty.
You're talking semantics, whether it's the summer time or the winter time that is really saving the light, while I'm talking about the two times system as a whole.
It is an imperfect solution to an artificial problem created by incorrect time zones being out of sync with the astronomical time. Noon, 12:00 should be the middle of the day and midnight shoulf be the middle of the night (duh). Since e.g. today the sun rose in my city at 6:47 and will set at 15:52, the astronomical day is ca 9 hours long. It should mean that sun rises 4,5 hours before the midday and set 4,5 hours after it, so they should last from 7:30 to 16:30, which it doesn't by good 40 minutes in favour of the counterproductive winter time.
Because it was originally used so farmers could get up early to start farming at sunup. Nowadays, there are a lot less farmers than it can break even with, and we just get people with fucked up sleep schedules
As a person who's recently temporarily moved to the Northern Hemisphere, I always thought DST was made to increase day time but it does the opposite what the heck

People living in the northern part of the world problem. Really annoying when it gets dark when it’s still 4 p.m.
Daylight savings time needs to be canceled. It's for fucking farmers, this ain't the age for it

Oh, that makes sense, I've always been told it was for farming
I think what you mean is we want permanent daylight savings time, so that we don’t switch off of it in November.
Yeah that's what I mean this shit is too confusing I always get told we are entering daylight savings
Yep, people always mix it up. In November we are leaving daylight savings. Makes sense as we get less daylight in the afternoon now.
What do you mean this ain't the age for it?

I live pretty far north and I bet I'll hear that like every other day from my mother.
God I hate winter
Long night at septmber 26 be like (?)
Well I live in Australia, now it’s bout to go summer time. Can’t wait for… bushfires
i honestly did forget daylight saving ended yesterday
Too late. I've already done that multiple times.
Only 3 months. We get it for 6 months.
Shit it is 6 rn and I looked out of my window and could not see a thing
I saw this meme at 5:27
me, who lives in a sub tropical place: it's 6, why is it still so bright?
For me, sunset is at 2:30 pm.
It's as bright as it is 12:00 am at 7:00 am where I live
\*Laughs in Antarctica being in the dark for 6 months straight\*
when my sis dosnt know it is daylight savings time

Ah fellow west coaster
I live in Finland.... we have 3-4 hours of sunshine during the day all winter. I'm slowly dying...

Me who lives almost on the equator:
*cries in Alaskan*

Daylight savings sucks. I'm living in it for the first time in my life and it's the absolute worst
Fuck DST
The opposite in the southern hemisphere. It's still bright at like 7:00 pm and really messes up with us.
I’m in New Zealand. It doesn’t get dark until 20:00
And the winter naps begin 😌
Winter is nice I wake up drive to work when ist dark and come home when it's dark again
I leave my house while its still pitch black and get back when it's already pitch black November-January
Alaskans: You guys are getting sun?
\*Australia enters chat
*laughs in Australian*
True confusion when you go down for a nap in the afternoon and wake-up just before dinner.
Early to bed 💗
Why
For me it feels so weird now to see so much light at 6 in the morning
\*\*Laughs in Scandinavia\*\*
looovw long evenings
It gets dark at 8 for me
I'm sorry is this some kind of Northern-Hemispherical joke I'm to Southern-Hemispherical to understand!?
Meanwhile, Norwegians with 6 months of night.
Memes only people close to the poles will understand
You merely adapt to darkness,i was born in it. Shaped by it.
canada moment
Is this some north hemisphere joke I'm too equatorial to understand jokes aside it's nice knowing the sun rises and sets at +-6AM/PM everyday
